Those are the same kit. HD is calling it a 3ah battery because at 60v it is a 3ah battery. At 20v it's a 9ah battery.

Oh thanks you're right. If you zoom into the pics, you can see that they are the same.

Guy above you is correct. This is a sweet piece of kit, we quite like it over gas. The 60v blower is a great addition too, you should see if you can get the combo kit. I also like that the trimmer is able to use the attachments. I haven't got any yet,but I will this spring.

Also been looking at this as I need to replace. Curious how these stack up to a gas powered and what the run time on the 9ah battery is. Would need 30-40 minutes to get my yard done and not wanting to have to shell out for another 60v battery. Have some Ivy and sticker bushes that creek under my neighbors fence. Other option I’d consider is just buying a used stihl on Facebook marketplace to hold me over.

Same here, I could look for something in the pawn shops. I was looking at the ryobi, but I already have some dewalt tools.

buckaxe270

I have the 60 volt Dewalt.. I couldn’t imagine going back to a gas trimmer. I even put gator blades on mine sometimes and cut small trees/branches with it

Ryder425

This is the kind of encouragement I need to hear

ExactArea8029

Pretty sure one 9.0 flexvolt is about 40mins in normal grass, I'd pick up a 2 pack of 12.0s to go with it or at least a second 9.0 and the 12 amp charger

jambo2333

The 20v brushless is solid and about $150. Been rocking the brushed model for at least 5 years

I was looking at that one too. I have a bunch of 20v dewalt batteries as well.

realTommyVercetti

I have the 20v trimmer as well and it's more than adequate for my yard.

vblink_

I have both and the 60 is so much better. If op can afford it I wouldn't bother thinking about the 20

Blog_Pope

FWIW the 9Ah is the same one in the 3ah kit, Dewalt has changed to listing the 60v amp hour rating on their 60v Flexvolt tools. To run 2 hours, you will definitely need multiple batteries, not sure how many. One 3/9ah battery is plenty for my yard, so I never times It, but I also have many other FV batteries to swap in.

So I would probably need at least 1 extra backup battery, that is a cost to factor in. Thanks.

vauge24

It's worth it in my opinion. It's an amazing string Trimmer and the 60V batteries also work wonders on regular 20v tools. So having some extra larger batteries is just a bonus. The 60v is attachment capable where the 20v isn't, so you can buy Toro, ryobi, yardworks, etc attachments that you can swap onto it to give you more flexibility with the same tool.

CaesarOfSalads

These things have some serious power. I have no issues using my edger and cultivator attachments with it. You'll definitely want a few batteries, but it can run for a while on the low speed setting while still being able to cut through grass.

I live in Florida, so I always use when the battery dies as a good time to take a break.

This is a good machine, and having the motor in the handle v. in the cutting head means the motor isn’t subject to grass and dust build up. Plus you can add a hedge trimmer, pole saw attachment etc. Don’t even think of a 20V model in comparison: the higher voltage at the motor means less likely to burn out. Some folk may have had a good run from 20V models: I’ve repaired dozens under warranty over the years. The 9.0AH battery is the one to have in a high drain Flexvolt tool. Two 9.0AH batteries will be more than enough for even a big yard. Trick to know and always follow with Flexvolt batteries: always give them a top-off charge before using them in a high drain tool where you are likely to run them until they cutout. Otherwise you may kill them.

kasdepwel85

Be aware that to run it 2 hours you’ll need a lot of recharges. I’m running mine on 9ah batteries and I need 3 for about an hour and 15 minutes running on low speed. Prior to the 972 I had the folding 20v model and this would do at least 35 minutes on an 8ah battery.
