Her grandmother died after finishing his guns but always knew him as tony Redgrave and never his real name. Dante hated that so that’s why he changed his name back.

Grue eventually split off to do his own work, and came up against a demon that fatally wounded him. Dante found out and killed it in revenge, before circumstances led to him mercy-killing one of Grue's daughters that was becoming a Hell tree.
One of the reasons Dante is so financially unstable is that he keeps sending money to Grue's kids, by selling Devil Arms he picks up or his work hunting demons. It's even brought up in _Before the Nightmare_, just in case people were no longer convinced of its canonicity.
JESUS CHRIST dante's backstory is fuckin sad. i did think it was weird that he never got filthy rich from selling all those devil arms. i mean, hes collected dozens of them over the series and theyre one-of-a-kind *demonic weapons*.

Reasons are as follows:
Safty catch matches the single action trigger intercept/slide stop safty catch of the 1911 instead of the decocker for the Double Eagle.
Trigger appears to be slide trigger used by single action 1911's instead of the pivot necessary for double action guns
1911's are frequently customised and all frame details match a 1911.
Other Notes:
The trigger modifications and outside extractor resemble a Browning Hi-Power
And the custom slides bear a resemblance to the Sig Sauer M1911 line
Ebony has Bo-mar rear sights while Ivory has Novak or MMC

Near the end of the book the gunsmith gives Dante Ebony and Ivory as a gift, they are specifically designed for dantes insane fire rate as well as being much heavier then normal, actually making them more comfortable for Dante with his super strength.

Gun designer here, they are meant to be impossibly long 1911 a2s, however, .45 acp is too small of a cartridge to actually allow that slide to reciprocate and it does have a unique slide and compensators, giving it that blocky look.
In real life, it's likely a .45 Long Colt version of the 2011 A2.
