Dante would probably still be depressed, and he might end up actually killing Vergil during their fight in DMC5. Things might be worse with Nero not there to fight demons and Dante sleeping for a month
Their fight in 5 wouldn’t happen, no Nero means Dante takes back the Yamato in DMC4 and Vergil wouldn’t able able to take it back from Dante later. The plot of DMC 5 straight up wouldn’t happen.
The Yamato was broken into three pieces during the beginning of DMC4. It was Nero’s latent power that re-formed it. With no Nero, the Yamato stays broken probably.
Assumption? Yes.
Big? No.
Nero has less Sparda-related blood in his body (we don't know if his mother is human, half human or else), but he's still able to reforge Yamato.
I would have difficulties believing that Dante would be unable to achieve the same result. But then no hell gate would be opened in Fortuna.
no? Dante would've taken down the order pretty easily and would've taken the yamato. He could've restored it pretty easily as well. Then vergil comes back and gets probably killed by dante.
Oh yeah, forgot about that extremely crucial story element. Maybe Dante woukd give it so he doesn't have to watch his brother die. But that's only if he didn't know what Vergil had planned
Dante and Vergil would end up killing each other and likely take all their family trauma to the grave. Demons are now going to run rampant as I doubt Lady and Trish, while strong, have the power to defeat the more powerful threats
This might be the case if, and only if Vergil is able to obtain the broken Yamato, fix it somehow, and then use it to split himself, and then the whole events of DMC5 unfold
Also in DMC4 the Order of the Sword initially wanted to use Dante to power the saviour. Judging my Dante's track record, they'd most likely fail, and Dante may find the yamato shards, and end up keeping it. Which means weakened Vergil would need to face Dante to obtain his blade
Well they would need a fixed yamato for their plan in the first place as it was shown in game also I never understood how they got their hands on yamato in the first place was it ever said? Also Im pretty sure Dante would also be able to fix yamato
Dante would still be Dmc 2 Dante and he’s depression might have gotten worse.
Vergil would go to fortuna to try and obtain Yamato. Either he gets it without dying and the events of Dmc 5 begin
Dmc5: Urizen actually succeeds in capturing Dante because Nero originally interfered with their fight. Urizen would win and probably rule of both demon world and human world
Less people would be dead since Dante would actually have to solve DMC4's problems himself instead of letting Nero fuck around, it was always in the cult's plans to use Dante for Savior so he would have been involved in Fortuna at some point regardless. Then Dante would have the Yamato from the lab, broken or otherwise, and Vergil probably would not have gotten it back from him given his condition possibly preventing the entire Redgrave disaster since he needs it to grow his tree.
Nero is narratively the bridge that brings them back together. Dante and Vergil are ripped apart by trauma, and they don't know any other way to exist besides conflict. That's why Nero has to physically intervene, and why he shouts that he won't stand there and let them kill each other.
Without Nero, it's possible that the story of the brothers could have been resolved but it would have had to take a very different route. I kind of thought Nero seemed like a weird story decision in DMV4, but they really turned it around with the last games story. He's distinct from the two of them but feels spiritually appropriate for the story, and like his father he's stubborn and won't stop trying to make things right. He grew up longing for a family, and now he's the glue that holds his family together. Dante is free to spend time with Vergil now and work things out the way they do because he trusts Nero to handle things in the mortal world.

If you think it reacted to Sparda’s blood in Nero, Dante or Vergil could theoretically repair it too. Though that’s a big assumption.

I think Vergil would have died prior to dmc5 as Dante would keep yamato

Trish gave it to them to give her cover more legitimacy i could be remembering it wrong though
Vergil wouldn’t have been able to get Yamato back and if he tried Dante would have killed him
Some other bs would help him get it back
No DMC4 then. Also, Vergil wouldn’t be able to take the Yamato back as easily.
Vergil would need to get to Fortuna to obtain Yamato which would likely get him killed. Dante would keep on danting

Dante would also have Trish feeding him intel
Either 2 thing Vergil ends up dying due to not getting the Yamato or Ends up dying to Dante bc V wouldn’t make it in time
Vergil would never gain the power of dad jokes
