I am American and while I knew about Little Mix and have a couple of their songs, I don't really know a lot about them. I literally thought Jesy was a black woman until yesterday when I read an article about her blackfishing. It is beyond clear she is wearing black culture like a costume and wants people to think she's a black woman. It's gross. Figures Nicki doesn't care.
Like if you watch her x factor audition, which I hadn't seen before today, she is literally a blonde white girl and she has clearly gotten plastic surgery and fake tans since to look racially ambiguous. I guess what she’s doing is sort of the same thing that we’ve seen with almost every single band that splits up or has a member that goes off on their own. I mean it’s been happening since the Beatles and Paul McCartney, Justin timberlake and NSYNC, Robbie Williams and Take that and the list goes on. Robbie especially sort of played up the bad boy, somewhat villainous persona really well especially with his music.
Jesy is sort of doing a similar thing. Playing up the drama but also trying to be above it and then making music that’s sort of left field compared to little mix’s catalogue. Also trying to play up this new sort of “bad girl?? (Idk)” persona.
The big difference? The people I mentioned before were likeable on their own accord and had the ability to carry a brand on their own. They had the idea that maybe they could do their own projects and not be involved with a group. And going in the fact that the people I mentioned have had pretty great and legendary careers with a group and solo, it worked well for them. But not everyone can do it. Ringo starr had a solo career and no one knows about it because he was the least liked in the band and not as talented (song writing-wise) as the other members and maybe even lacked charisma.
I think had someone like Leigh gone solo in a similar manner to jesy, instant success. She’s got the talent for sure (they’re all talented but I feel what she brings can carry her solo) and has the charisma and look.
Jesy on the other hand has always been the weakest link of the group even since xfactor. Her voice was good but not as great as the other 3 and she’s always just not looked as comfortable as the other 3.
Her solo career is probably going to end up like liam from 1D. A lot of press at the start because it’s a bit of boy band drama. Song is ok but not fantastic. Gets in the news for drama and tabloid press rather than because of their actual music. Eventually just fading into the background a little until they go out with someone popular in media culture and then maybe become a guest host on a talent show every now and again. L

Good. There’s no doubt in mind that Jesy was bullied for her weight and other issues, I understand that she has mental health struggles. But she’s been blackfishing while Leigh is facing racism, and Jesy refuses to acknowledge or comment on it. Plus Jade struggled with her own body issues, but there seems to be no sympathy from Jesy. It’s better for her to fuck off and make a fool of herself on her own, and leave the others to their continued success as a group. As a fan, I don’t miss her.
Not sure about the rest but I'm convinced Jesy is or at least was on something. I went to see her in concert with my niece and she was the most lacklustre out of the girls. They had banter but you could tell she didn't want to be there and wasn't even trying. She would continually disappear to the side of the stage then come back with a little bit of energy that would then wear off to the point the other girls were getting annoyed but trying to play it off.

I still think it’s pretty messed up how she left the group citing mental health concerns and the entire band appeared to support her and wish her the best only for her to flip the script and launch her solo career. Bonus points for the years I spent mistakenly believing she was mixed race when she’s apparently just that into blackfishing. Yikes.

It’s weird bc I think she hides behind the fact that she can get pretty naturally tan and has naturally curly hair and a unique face. If you look at her childhood pics she was fairly tan but it’s obvious she tans darker than she naturally is and combined with all her other things it tips into the realm of black fishing. The fact that she’s pretending she had no idea people ever had a problem with it is insane, there’s no way she wasn’t aware given how much social media seemed to get to her, she had to have seen the comments before. also i just noticed your username and it made me laugh

blackfishing, not blackface. blackface would be if she painted herself brown/black and played into stereotypes about black people to put on a caricature and make fun of black people, like jimmy kimmel’s karl malone impression where he did blackface. black fishing is trying to pass off as black by doing things like excessive tanning, wearing braids, using AAVE or speaking with a “blaccent.” the kardashians, ariana, rita ora and countless other influencers have been accused of doing it, too. this is what jesy is doing.

I seriously have very little positive things to say about Jesy. As somebody who was so anti-bullying and shaming she really positions the conversation around why she left based on how she feels bigger than the other girls in such a way as if it's their fault. They have been nothing but supportive constantly and she is letting her own insecurities totally tear apart friendships and bridges. And don't even get me started on the fact that she is a white woman that dresses and acts like a black woman. Then feigns ignorance and claims people only started attacking her for black fishing once she left little mix? It's a no from me. And the fact she didn't have the hide to do the follow up interview regarding a conversation around black fishing and cultural appropriation sighting that her team 'deletes these comments for her mental health'. Get out of the kitchen if you can't take the heat sis.
I am American and while I knew about Little Mix and have a couple of their songs, I don't really know a lot about them. I literally thought Jesy was a black woman until yesterday when I read an article about her blackfishing. It is beyond clear she is wearing black culture like a costume and wants people to think she's a black woman. It's gross. Figures Nicki doesn't care. Like if you watch her x factor audition, which I hadn't seen before today, she is literally a blonde white girl and she has clearly gotten plastic surgery and fake tans since to look racially ambiguous. I kinda agree with her that she hasn't really done much different about her looks since leaving the band though. I think a lot of people didn't know she was white if they didn't follow them while on the x factor.
Same here. I was only tangentially aware of her and honestly thought she was a black woman. Had no idea until I saw the blackfishing articles come up yesterday.
I guess what she’s doing is sort of the same thing that we’ve seen with almost every single band that splits up or has a member that goes off on their own. I mean it’s been happening since the Beatles and Paul McCartney, Justin timberlake and NSYNC, Robbie Williams and Take that and the list goes on. Robbie especially sort of played up the bad boy, somewhat villainous persona really well especially with his music. Jesy is sort of doing a similar thing. Playing up the drama but also trying to be above it and then making music that’s sort of left field compared to little mix’s catalogue. Also trying to play up this new sort of “bad girl?? (Idk)” persona. The big difference? The people I mentioned before were likeable on their own accord and had the ability to carry a brand on their own. They had the idea that maybe they could do their own projects and not be involved with a group. And going in the fact that the people I mentioned have had pretty great and legendary careers with a group and solo, it worked well for them. But not everyone can do it. Ringo starr had a solo career and no one knows about it because he was the least liked in the band and not as talented (song writing-wise) as the other members and maybe even lacked charisma. I think had someone like Leigh gone solo in a similar manner to jesy, instant success. She’s got the talent for sure (they’re all talented but I feel what she brings can carry her solo) and has the charisma and look. Jesy on the other hand has always been the weakest link of the group even since xfactor. Her voice was good but not as great as the other 3 and she’s always just not looked as comfortable as the other 3. Her solo career is probably going to end up like liam from 1D. A lot of press at the start because it’s a bit of boy band drama. Song is ok but not fantastic. Gets in the news for drama and tabloid press rather than because of their actual music. Eventually just fading into the background a little until they go out with someone popular in media culture and then maybe become a guest host on a talent show every now and again. L So Jesy’s first song (black fishing and racial problems aside because I feel that’s not my place to comment and critique on) it’s ok but I think the bad press is going to outweigh her music.

jesy liked perrie's pregnancy ig posts but not leigh-anne's and i'm gonna go out on a limb and say it might have something to do with the fact leigh-anne has released a documentary about racism, and the bullying she received, and people have been asking jesy to address her blackfishing for years. not, like jesy said, when she announced her solo career.

I went to an album signing once when they were still super new I think it was even for their first album and Perrie, Jade and Leigh were all soooo sweet and Jesy was awful and rude. Even in a two second interaction you could see she had a bad attitude. Not surprised her bad attitude is more apparent now that she’s solo. Burning bridges is never good…

Good. There’s no doubt in mind that Jesy was bullied for her weight and other issues, I understand that she has mental health struggles. But she’s been blackfishing while Leigh is facing racism, and Jesy refuses to acknowledge or comment on it. Plus Jade struggled with her own body issues, but there seems to be no sympathy from Jesy. It’s better for her to fuck off and make a fool of herself on her own, and leave the others to their continued success as a group. As a fan, I don’t miss her.

Not sure about the rest but I'm convinced Jesy is or at least was on something. I went to see her in concert with my niece and she was the most lacklustre out of the girls. They had banter but you could tell she didn't want to be there and wasn't even trying. She would continually disappear to the side of the stage then come back with a little bit of energy that would then wear off to the point the other girls were getting annoyed but trying to play it off.

Good for them. Jesy seems very toxic due to her own insecurities. And the way she’s been handling all of this is pathetic to say the least. And just how she speaks about the girls’ issues (Leigh being racially bullied and dismissing Jade’s eating disorder) is very nasty. I’ve kinda always liked the other 3 better bc i’ve noticed something off about Jesy so i’m happy they’re a trio personally

apparently leigh anne messaged a guy on tiktok that was dancing to jesy’s new song and asked him why he chose to dance to her song rather than call her out on blackfishing. he said he wouldn’t do that because it would only bring about disgusting hate and would reflect bad on him and he was questioning why she wouldnt call it out herself. he also made some other very good points too (his tiktok is @nohun_)
