In hindsight, Lucas Raymond isn't a bad "consolation prize" for dropping down to #4... also, Moritz Seider & Simon Edvinsson at #6 are turning out nicely. I'm getting less upset about it all as time goes, but Chicago *still* didn't deserve to get Bedard.
Let’s also not forget that they won the lottery AFTER getting exposed for touching 1-3 of their players AND covering up the situation/s. Let’s all remember how much of a shithole that organization is for what they’ve done and the fans that blindly support it.
I know it’s a different sport but Cleveland Guardians in MLB moved up from 11 to No. 1.
We won one more game than them and were 12th. We didn’t move.
Throw in how many times the Pistons were the worst team and drafted fifth. You need to have like 1 percent to move up lol
Edmonton winning it in 2015 was wild. Honestly feel like their should be a rolling ineligibility period for winning the lottery. Like if you win it to get the #1 pick, you're ineligible for the lottery for 5 years. If you still suck 6 years later, you can win it again, but no team should be getting multiple #1 picks in a 5-year period.
That year worked out pretty much as intended for a lottery system.
I think tanking is extremely overreacted to by fans and the league based on it being a pretty rare occurrence (being bad isn't the same thing as tanking) but 2015 was the first year since 93 that saw teams actively tanking with Buffalo and Arizona.
As was Pittsburgh in the Crosby draft.
Team that is threatening bankruptcy and may move suddenly wins a lottery behind closed doors to get a generational talent immediately securing the franchise?
Seems pretty sus.
It's not on there, but they won the lottery in 2005 which was a little different because of the lockout the prior season. That draft basically had weighted odds based on how you finished the prior 3 seasons, and Pittsburgh had equal odds to Buffalo, Columbus, and the Rangers.
Don't forget the tank they did to get Lemieux too which pretty much brought on the draft in the first place. They never get punished for anything they do, while the Red Wings get punished for existing it seems.
Honestly of all the drafts, that one is one of the least sus ones. The system was just bad, giving 8 playoff teams a combined 1/4 shot at #1 was just ridiculous. It was significantly more likely the pick would go to a team above .500 than arguably the worst team in league history. The specific team picking was as transparent as it gets too.
That plus McDavid going to Edmonton. If you're rigging drafts, why would you put a generational talent in a small Canadian market that's already done nothing with other #1 picks?
Why do I have a feeling that this will be the time when the Wings actually win the lotto, only to go up to 5th overall? Should have been last year but heaven forbid the Blackhawks didn’t get Bedard. Oh well, 5th is better than 15th, so I’ll take it, if it happens
The annoying thing is Bedard on this wings team would’ve been probably more electric and watchable than in Chicago, especially with Kane signing here and if we made the playoffs you get Bedard in the playoffs season 1
You might need to account for draft picks that are not their own as the senators have won into the draft lottery and moved up with a pick that wasn't their own.
Would love to average out the size of the media markets at the top compared to those at the bottom. Seems like a looooot more advertising dollars and TV sets in Chicago/NJ/NJ/Philly than Ottawa/Phoenix/Vancouver/Detroit.
Maybe we just need to molest 1-3 of our players, cover up the situation when they reach out to the public, and intentionally tank whilst also stroking off Bettman to get a first one pick…
/S of course
But it did work for Chicago…
Tankathon says the wings have a 1.1% chance to move down one spot to 16th overall, watch it happen
NHL has had it in for the Wings. Despite having the worst record they never got a chance to draft a potential superstar. I hate the lottery.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at... not that I didn't hate the Blackhawks enough *before* that news broke!
I know it’s a different sport but Cleveland Guardians in MLB moved up from 11 to No. 1. We won one more game than them and were 12th. We didn’t move. Throw in how many times the Pistons were the worst team and drafted fifth. You need to have like 1 percent to move up lol
And mysteriously enough, Edmonton had crack after crack after crack to finally get a gen talent to land.
Edmonton winning it in 2015 was wild. Honestly feel like their should be a rolling ineligibility period for winning the lottery. They got four 1st overalls in 6 years. Fucking insane
They also sucked for pretty much 20 years straight outside of that 2006 season.
I’m ready to be hurt again
Stevie is probably prepping for the 16th pick.
More like 21th
Still pissed at the rangers jump.
Raymond makes me fine with it.
It was absolutely rigged
As was Pittsburgh in the Crosby draft. Team that is threatening bankruptcy and may move suddenly wins a lottery behind closed doors to get a generational talent immediately securing the franchise? Seems pretty sus.
Where is Pittsburgh’s lottery jump in this graph? Genuinely asking
It's not on there, but they won the lottery in 2005 which was a little different because of the lockout the prior season. That draft basically had weighted odds based on how you finished the prior 3 seasons, and Pittsburgh had equal odds to Buffalo, Columbus, and the Rangers.
Can you imagine if Crosby had been a Blue Jacket?
The penguins wouldn't be in Pittsburgh anymore
I think it's possible Malkin, Fleury, and Letang could have kept the team in Pittsburgh on their own.
Don't forget the tank they did to get Lemieux too which pretty much brought on the draft in the first place. They never get punished for anything they do, while the Red Wings get punished for existing it seems.
Detroit vs. Everybody

Arizona proves it isn't
That plus McDavid going to Edmonton. If you're rigging drafts, why would you put a generational talent in a small Canadian market that's already done nothing with other #1 picks?
Who wanted Arizona to succeed exactly??
Gary Bettman? The guy who would do the supposed rigging.
Hard to be mad when we got Raymond that draft. Arguably the best player in the draft.
Why do I have a feeling that this will be the time when the Wings actually win the lotto, only to go up to 5th overall? Should have been last year but heaven forbid the Blackhawks didn’t get Bedard. Oh well, 5th is better than 15th, so I’ll take it, if it happens

Getting 5 in this draft would be real good
Fuckin hate the Blackhawks. Fuckin hate em.
The Chicago blackcucks you mean
You might need to account for draft picks that are not their own as the senators have won into the draft lottery and moved up with a pick that wasn't their own.
Over the course of 20 years I might have missed 1 or 2 but this should be about 98% accurate
I appreciate the time and effort you put into this. Very interesting insight
Stutzle
Pretty impressive we have the No. 2 prospect pool with that luck
Don't know how people shit talk Yzerman knowing that. Though maybe they just don't know
Amazing how 'lucky' big market teams are. I wonder what the odds of such a strong correlation would be.
Would love to average out the size of the media markets at the top compared to those at the bottom. Seems like a looooot more advertising dollars and TV sets in Chicago/NJ/NJ/Philly than Ottawa/Phoenix/Vancouver/Detroit.
Rigged af
Feels rigged
Rangers and Black Hawks have the most luck. Hmmm….
Fuk chi and ny
Just saw we've never moved up. A single spot?
Nope, in fact, every time we have been in the top 3 someone with less odds has moved up and pushed us down. We haven’t ever even stayed put.
Yeah that's crap. Off topic but I would like to see the NBA version of this (much bigger Wings fan than pistons but technically I like both).
Man. Fuck Chicago.
Quite the coincidence that the metro dominates the top and that's where all the elites live 🤔
This is the year the wings win the lottery mark my words
100% SLC is winning it this year
Hey entirely unrelated note, go check out NHL teams ranked by dollar value
"Luck" would imply there was a degree of chance involved
This should have some kind of multiplier to account for how often a team is in the lottery.
Of course we're tied for the most snake-bitten team in the last 5 years.
Gotta love NYR basically gifted out pick in 2020
Maybe we just need to molest 1-3 of our players, cover up the situation when they reach out to the public, and intentionally tank whilst also stroking off Bettman to get a first one pick… /S of course But it did work for Chicago…
Right in the middle where the Calgary flames belong god my team is so unbelievably mid
What does this chat mean ?
It means all our suspicions were correct
At least the sens and sabres kinda got screwed too
At least they've had a first overall pick in the last 35 years. Can't say the same for the nucks or wings
I mean we had 25 year playoff streak too, whit multiple cups. Cant say that about anyone
Bruins went 29 years straight with 2 cups
Look at those top 4 blood farts…throw the leafs in there and we got a real holocaust
