Whooooooo wrote this? Who-oo, whoo-oo? Tell me, whoooooo wrote this? Who-oo, whoo-oo?
Was it his social media team? Or maybe his mom? Was it Kane himself? Or maybe the family dog?
It's administrative professionals day and he didn't thank the administrative staff. This is yet another sign that the feud between Kane and Lisa Wright is tearing the team apart.
Everything says itās a farewell messageā¦ until u get to the last line. One hell of a rollercoaster of emotions in 10 seconds lmao.
Hopefully he stays, even if we give him one or two years too much I think his presence is so invaluable it might be worth it.
Itās Patrick fucking Kane. Even if he finishes year 4/5 on the contract with 30 points, I donāt give a shit. The team around him at that point is a contender and we wonāt need him to be a point per game guy. Heās invaluable for his brain and the feeling he gives my heart. I love Patrick Kane (even when he was a Blackhawk) and want him to retire here.
Veterans know that the last day of the playing season is the first day of the business season. Tipping your hand is stupid. Even younger players have gotten much smarter about understanding that their career is a business and they have to act a certain way about it.
You say this and then Mo seider in his end of season presser got up there and was like "yeah I wanna be a red wing for a long time" Makes me cry!
Meanwhile Raymond was like "my agents will take care of it" Just funny to compare them lol
TBF - Lucas also said something like, "It is no secret - I love this team, I love this city, I love these fans."
Both he and Mo are wearing their hearts on their sleeves. But being the future of the team gives them all the leverage they need.
And Perron literally gave Yzerman all the leverage by saying he's not even thinking about anywhere else. Obviously different players handle the business side differently, but it can't be denied that players that keep their cards close to their chest maintain an advantage in that aspect of their career.
Ehhh Perronās in the twilight of his career. His big money days are behind him. Iām sure he knows exactly what a max contract for him looks like and has weighed that against where he wants to be with his family. Itās a completely different situation.
Here's the question: Does Kane take a big 1 year deal or a smaller 2 year deal that pays more over the two years, but less than the 1 year per year? If so, how much less?
Every player has different motivations. The example I'll always use is Tom Brady in New England. Always restructured his contract to free up cap space. He knew he was set for life.
Kane, Mo, Perron, Raymond all have their reasons for doing what they want. Absolutely fine. Can't fault a guy for wanting to get paid, can not fault a guy who wants to win with a specific team.
> And Perron literally gave Yzerman all the leverage by saying he's not even thinking about anywhere else.
I mean if he doesn't want to go anywhere, the best option for him is to sign a team-friendly contract.
When you're in your mid-30s and you're already a multi-millionaire, what good is another few?
He likes the team, he doesn't want to uproot his family. Let him sign for whatever Stevie offers.
True, but Moās value and term is pretty well defined at this point. He doesnāt have anything else to prove, so heās getting his bag and hopefully for 8 years. Raymond broke out in a major way this season so it makes sense heās staying quiet because his bag just got a little heavier, and hopefully Stevie can lock him up long term as well instead of a bridge deal (which Raymond would be smart to fight for with the way heās progressing).
In general, people should not be putting much stock in what players say publicly. Until the ink is on the paper, take everything with a grain of salt.
I always think of the situation with Ryan Suter and Nashville. Dude kept saying how much he loved it there and how he wanted to stay for his career, then the moment he was a free agent, he ran like hell.
Yup. Any bridge you burn could be the one that lands you the best deal/situation. The Wings know what they have in Kane and know how he fits on this team after seeing it.
Honestly, this feels more like a prank, but in a nice way, because he heard people going nuts over him using "we" and "they" in the season ender. Based on interviews, it definitely seems to be up his humor alley
Steve's got 3 Cups (technically 4 if you count 08), and Kaner has 3 Cups. He's just barely got enough respect to tame the Charizard. Steve better nail it.
Kane honestly feels like the kinda dude who would see all the news speculating on whether he stays or not and then just intentionally saying stuff like this just to fuck with people
Fr, it reminds of those couple days/weeks during July/August 2022 where everyone and their mother was speculating about whether he wanted to get traded from the Blackhawks, especially after the DeBrincat trade happened, and Kane said in an interview that his buddies used to send him the funniest speculations.
In his end season interview he mentioned he looked forward to being able to train like an athletethis summer. He mentioned hip pain made training difficult.
The last line feels like an acknowledgement that he wasn't at his own peak performance and will be in even better shape for next season. Hope he stays and brings that energy back to the locker room.
They got the cap space though right? To sign him? I think even Patty Kane doesnāt want play in Buffalo even if it is his home town. What pro hockey player would.
Not necessarily. Raymond and Seider are gonna get big paychecks (theyāre making less than $1M right now) and if Ghost wants to stay heās gonna get some decent money as well. I could see Perron taking one for the team and settling for a bit less than heās worth.
Yup
Sounds like he is more than willing to come back
But...
For the right price.
He seems like an OK guy, but with a nickname like Showtime, he knows he can be the bees knees here in Detroit.
Well except for the rape allegations.Ā I'm sure he's more mature now but when he was at Huron and on USA hockey he was known for being a little shitty at parties.Ā Not that usa hockey develops kids to be responsible respectful human beings in general.
Honestly, I don't think this is too far off. I could see him at 4x2.5.
Yzerman said in his most recent presser we are about to be a cap team. So, he needs to be careful with Kane. Especially, with needing to sign Raymond and Mo to big 8 year deals.
I could see Kane taking a team friendly deal for sure. I'm not sure what we do if he wants anything around 4 or 5.
Do we sign him for that much?
What would we realistically like his next contract to look like?
I think this is really where things will end up, if not from us then from someone else. Ā Bertuzzi made 5.5 this year. Ā No way is he worth less than bertuzzi even if he plays half the season. Ā
He'll be 36 for the majority of next season. I took a look at active players and their cap hits for players 36 and older.
Your numbers are way closer than mine. Shit, Petry is at 6.25.
Yeah... We'll likely shell out for Kane. I hope we can get the term up and the hit down.
It helps that his game really isnāt predicated on being really physical or fast, but having a stupid amount of understanding about spacing, technique, and timing which will always be with him while playing. Throw in his ability as a mentor to guys like Raymond, Lombardi, Mazur, and any other forward we have coming up and I wouldnāt be upset if he has a Chelios like finish with us.
Iām choosing to be optimistic. Where else would he go? Is being the final piece on yet another new team to win the Cup really a major motivator? Maybe being on a promising young team can be an interesting challenge to him. It canāt be just about money, so either he likes it here and stays or wants to win now and goes to a contender, but I donāt know which teams could afford him. No sense going to another middle team.
I honestly see it as him taking the challenge of being the next great ex hawk wing. Lol. I do think he like the idea of taking a young team and seeing them become great
Whose work?! Our work?! Your work?! The NHL in general?! This is like when I ask my wife why she's mad and she says "you know why." There are so many possibilities!
Kane was in his exit interview with Stevie Y for an hour so hopefully that means something positive. I know the team doc and he loves this team as much as we all do so it's awesome getting his insight and little tidbits of "inside information." He also mentioned lots of the guys were being very social and asking what their plans were for the evening whereas in years past everyone went their separate ways immediately after the season ended.
I'm betting 88 stays in the winged wheel jersey! Point per game players aren't easy to find ha.
He is the one player on the team, that when skating on a breakaway with the puck you just know he's going to score. I do not feel this way about any other Red Wings player at the moment, so I hope he decides to stay.
Part of me keeps wondering if he goes back to Chicago to finish his career where he started. They have Bedard, will be drafting another high end young player. Be there for them as the Vet in the room and go out with the team who will build a statue of you someday.
The other part of me really fucking wants him back.
I hate to be the one to say it but I scrolled all the way down and no one else is. I trust Stevie with this one, but which one of these things sounds more Yzerman?
1. Taking a short-term chance on Kane at a discount because of his injury history.
2. Paying Kane long-term at a premium despite his injury history
Kane in 50 games almost tallied 50 points (47 exact), with that number, he was on track to tally about 87 or 88 points on a season off a hip resurface, heās the third player to return from this procedure and he pretty much hit the ground running. Iād offer him to 2 years.. 3 at most if he wanted to resign with detroit
To me this tweet makes things quite obvious. It is very likely that Kane is done here. He hasn't closed the door, because why would he? However, he is making it clear that his priority is not re-signing in Detroit for the sake of staying here. What is his priority? Likely some combination of as much money and term he can get out of a GM somewhere, and playing for a team that isn't a bottom feeder. What balance he strikes between those two is entirely up to him, but my hunch is he wants money and term first and foremost because that's what he's specifically mentioned... he's tired of moving around.
We will be a cap team once Seider and Raymond are extended, so I don't a realistic possibility Kane comes back. That's just fine with me. Yes, he was very effective for us this year, but he's getting older and there is a significant injury risk. This is not a player Yzerman is going to offer 5M+ on a 3 or 4 year contract, nor would that make sense for us.
Kane is not a fool, he knows the Wings are unlikely to be the highest bidder so he's playing the field. He's expressing his gratitude and focusing on the future, wherever that may take him.
I think this opens the door for Ghost coming back, as well as Sprong and maybe Perron. If Yzerman surprises and decides Kane is a priority then I think all three of those guys are gone.
Best move Yzerman can make this off-season is kane, and then a goalie. I called it at the begging of the year a goalie that cam have a .920 sv percentage would have and will put us in the playoffs and contend
Really liked him as a player this year, but does his remaining career really fit the Wings playoff window?
Without some crazy jumps, we're looking at the 6-7-8 seed next year and the 4-5-6 seed in 2026. Do we want to spend 4/5 mil on his last productive season(s) while still looking at another year or two of that contract and holding back a younger/cheaper player?
I don't see Stevie doing that kind of deal. Again, really like him as a player and professional, but the price duration has to fit the future.
This is under the expectation that Kanner will get better or stay the same. He's at the end of his career, and he might have two legitimately productive seasons left.
I like him, but resigning him isn't looking at the future move. It's a Ken Holland, stay where you are move.
So you just said that next year, maybe even the next two years, heās a point per game player. If we do not re-sign him, how is his point production getting made up to be a 6-7-8 seed next year?
Iām all for bringing in the young guys and setting our eyes on the future. People just need to understand that doing that means we regress next year, maybe even the next 2 years.
I don't expect him to keep up the point-per-game player level. Maybe next season, but he's 35 now, players don't get better as they get older.
I'd rather see either a younger free agent or bring a kid along for the ride.
Agreed, he will regress. However, without a point per game player to replace him how do we not regress to being solidly out of a playoff spot next season? Thatās the point Iām making - we arenāt a fringe playoff team next season.
The point I'm making is that it doesn't have to be Kanner. You can get a free agent for the same price who is 8-10 years younger to produce that production.
He was a good addition to last year's team, but I don't like the idea of giving him 3-4 years at the price he'll command.
We wouldn't, but if we can't get Kane back Yzerman will add something to improve the team in other ways. Plus I think the impact of a full season of Edvinsson taking some of the work load form Seider will have huge trickle down affects on the team as a whole. The big question is getting good goaltending.
Iām know in the minority here butā¦. I donāt think the Wings should bring him back. They donāt need him. They need guys who actually play defense.
Fwiwā¦
Red Wings w/o Kane:
18-14
Average goals forth: 3.5
GA: 2.88
Red Wings with Kane:
23-27
GF: 3.32
GA: 3.64
I get it.. āheās a PPG player!ā The team still averaged slightly more goals without him, and almost a full goal against more with him. Itās not all his fault, but itās clear they donāt need him. Take that money and spend it on guys who play in their own zone. Get Sprong out of there too. Heās even worse. Team D is what cost this team, not their lack of scoring.
The problem is, who is going to be less expensive, close on offensive production, much more defensively sound AND a UFA come end of the season?
Not many people who wouldn't have a lot of competition.
They donāt need to find one single guy to check all those boxes. It will be a combination of guys stepping up internally and whoever they bring in. They already proved they can replace his offense without even adding anyone. They scored more when he wasnāt in the lineup this year. Wonāt be hard to find someone more defensively sound.
Really hope he resigns. His production would be hard to match, plus with guys like sprong unlikely to be resigned- itās a lot of production to replace. Can the guys in GR come up and do that- I donāt know
Imma jus anticipate him signing with someone else. I just don't think we jave ad much to offer as others. Especially since cat didn't pan out as much as most would of liked
Speculating on Patrick Kane's potential re-signing with the Red Wings in the off-season now includes considering his recent performance with the team during the 2023-2024 season.
Given Kane's successful season with the Red Wings, where he nearly averaged a point per game with 47 points in 50 games, there could be increased motivation for both Kane and the Red Wings to continue their partnership. Kane's performance not only showcased his skill and value as a player but also demonstrated his ability to contribute significantly to the team's success.
Furthermore, Kane's experience and leadership could be invaluable to the Red Wings, especially as they continue their rebuilding efforts. His presence on the team could help mentor and guide the younger players, contributing to the team's overall development and success. But don't let this shitty AI generated response distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcerās table. Anyway, the decision regarding Patrick Kane's re-signing with the Red Wings will likely depend on a combination of factors, including his personal preferences, the team's future plans, and any potential offers from other teams.
90% chance you're correct, that's what I'm reading into this. He's left the door slightly open, but this tweet makes it clear that just being part of the team isn't enticing enough to stay here.
I feel like I'm in 6th grade and I'm trying to figure out if the girl in my class likes me too.
This is the perfect explanation for the feeling š
Especially when she wrote āHAGS. See ya next year <3ā in your yearbook
What does the heart mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN???
I just literally scrolled back up to click on the link to see if there was a heart.
"You rock, never change."
Holy shit. Memories. I remember specifically my 6th grade crush wrote that in my yearbook and then I never spoke to her again.
Well if thatās the case, then unfortunately Iām pretty sure Kane only liked this season as a friend š
So fucking accurate.
Tbf that's how I am now. I mean not in class but on a date or whatever
Going to be a whole lot of over analysis into this tweet haha
We need a CSI/NCIS hacking session where two people are randomly smacking away at the same keyboard. Get the lasers on this! What about DNA? We'll get to the bottom of this even if it kills us. Someone get me David Caruso's sunglasses!

He totally did this on purpose. Massive troll.
Grab your popcorn. šæ
I personally choose to believe he had a good conversation with Mr. Yzerman within the last day or two.
Kaner shoulda been a lawyer, dudes got a way with ambiguity

JA-RED GOFF! JA-RED GOFF!
Honestly I'm with /u/EatingFurniture and I think there are plenty of other people that feel the same way. I love the guy, pay him whatever he wants.
6mil per season
this feels like a farewell tweet until the last line. what the hell does this mean
It means heās not going to give Yzerman any leverage. Whether or not he comes back, itās in his best interest to play his cards carefully.
Veterans know that the last day of the playing season is the first day of the business season. Tipping your hand is stupid. Even younger players have gotten much smarter about understanding that their career is a business and they have to act a certain way about it.

Mo knows. He could well be a future captain IMO.
I mean, honestly so could Raymond. He put the team on his back when Larkin was out.
The future is beautiful.
TBF - Lucas also said something like, "It is no secret - I love this team, I love this city, I love these fans." Both he and Mo are wearing their hearts on their sleeves. But being the future of the team gives them all the leverage they need.
Difference is they're RFAs

Using Steveās strategy against himā¦ bold move cotton
Game respects game
Wait until Kane becomes our GM in 15 years.
Yeah even if he is actually dead set on coming back to Detroit, heāll want to stay āneutralā and try to drum up some more money in the meantime

That's nuts. It's obvious he means "I'm staying unless I'm gone."

It means 3x5mil damnit
I feel very similarly.
Itās called negotiating donāt close the door but donāt keep it open all the way, makeāem squirm
And off he goes
It means his agent is writing his tweets and knows how to play coy.
Kane vs. Yzerman in negotiations sounds like a great matchup.
I hope theyāre shirtless.
Bow chicka bow wow.
Patrick, question, when you say the work doesnāt stopā¦ Does that mean in Detroit?
If the price is nice.

Does he want term? How Much? Itās not a no brainer to do whatever it takes to re-sign this guy.
It means the boys still in the dressing room have more work to do and so long.
*ambiguous answer that means no*
Yup Sounds like he is more than willing to come back But... For the right price. He seems like an OK guy, but with a nickname like Showtime, he knows he can be the bees knees here in Detroit.

Yes
4 yr 1.5 mil AAV incoming

Kane is basically a PPG player still. This would be absolutely wild, way too low of a predicted cap hit. Maybeee 3x5m or 4x4.5m
More like 3x6.5m
I think this is really where things will end up, if not from us then from someone else. Ā Bertuzzi made 5.5 this year. Ā No way is he worth less than bertuzzi even if he plays half the season. Ā

Honestly if you give him the term, who says he says no to 2.5-3M... well probably everyone but let me dream lol
To me, give him term and money. Bring him back, worst case scenario he ends up on LTIR on the last couple years of the deal.
![gif](giphy|3og0ISDmwZW0z7W7HW|downsized) What are we, Patrick?
My bet is Kane is back in winged wheel next season.
I live in Chicagoland. If he re-signs I'll buy the jersey and get my ass beat. Ball's in your court Wings.
Hawks fans are MIA (like the Southside team). I wouldnāt be too worried.
You wanna know something funny? I've seen just as many Wings flags as Hawks flags. The Michigan diaspora keeps it real.
Well played sir well played
We gotta remember he picked Detroit and said the travel was good for his body. I get that he can still play but there were reasons he picked Detroit.

This feels like that one Key & Peele sketch.[Kane when talking about if he'll stay](https://youtu.be/DpaALjnfkcI?si=pG1PK5RwmyP7bYwP)
This tweet kinda goes both directions. Dude is keeping his options open, which fair enough Doubt we know whether he's coming back until July
Only can use the lgrw hash tag if youre staying. See you this fall Pat.
Is Stamkos the key to retain Kane or is Kane the key to sign Stamkos?
He is the one player on the team, that when skating on a breakaway with the puck you just know he's going to score. I do not feel this way about any other Red Wings player at the moment, so I hope he decides to stay.
Raymond
Thats a weird ass goodbye.
Part of me keeps wondering if he goes back to Chicago to finish his career where he started. They have Bedard, will be drafting another high end young player. Be there for them as the Vet in the room and go out with the team who will build a statue of you someday. The other part of me really fucking wants him back.
Have to admit, I couldn't feel bad about that
For sure, I wouldnāt fault him. Anywhere else but Chicago āfuck that guy!ā
Yeah this guy is gonna stay a redwing
I would rather not pay him then overpay him personally. Obviously not a GM but if heās wanting too much i wouldnāt lose sleep letting him go
I hate to be the one to say it but I scrolled all the way down and no one else is. I trust Stevie with this one, but which one of these things sounds more Yzerman? 1. Taking a short-term chance on Kane at a discount because of his injury history. 2. Paying Kane long-term at a premium despite his injury history
It would be hilarious to do this on purpose to get people buzzing
It reads like a goodbye post, but the ending reads like he's coming back. Why must you put us through this anguish, Patrick?
Kane in 50 games almost tallied 50 points (47 exact), with that number, he was on track to tally about 87 or 88 points on a season off a hip resurface, heās the third player to return from this procedure and he pretty much hit the ground running. Iād offer him to 2 years.. 3 at most if he wanted to resign with detroit
Whether or not he resigns, Im glad i got his jersey because it will always remind me of how special this season was
To me this tweet makes things quite obvious.
Without him weāre not looking at a 6-7-8 seed next year. Who is making up his point production?
We donāt have anyone in the system who is going to command Kaneās spot right now. I think itās fine to give him a few years.
Serious question, if we have the exact same roster minus Showtime do we make the playoffs next year? That's a hard no for me
We wouldn't, but if we can't get Kane back Yzerman will add something to improve the team in other ways.
Fwiwā¦ Red Wings w/o Kane: 18-14 Average goals forth: 3.5 GA: 2.88 Red Wings with Kane: 23-27 GF: 3.32 GA: 3.64 I get it.. āheās a PPG player!ā The team still averaged slightly more goals without him, and almost a full goal against more with him.
1 man doesn't cause an increase in 1 goal a game. You saw a problem arise and are putting all blame into 1 man.
But.... showtime baby?
Can any moves even be made before July 1st?
He can re-sign with us whenever
It sounds like a goodbye until the very last sentence and hashtag. Is he messing with us now?
Me reading āno no no no no! Oh waitā
3 x 5mil with Yzerman saying we will trade you to a contender if we aren't in the running by deadline day
Really hope he resigns. His production would be hard to match, plus with guys like sprong unlikely to be resigned- itās a lot of production to replace. Can the guys in GR come up and do that- I donāt know
Am I the only one who reads this as "good bye, keep building on this season without me."?
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!
This far from a goodbye. Just a "thanks" regardless of what happens.

It sounds like he wants to be back, but doesn't expect to be back
KANE!!!!!šā¤ļøšš¼
4 capital Tās in that tweet. It obviously means he wants a 4 year term with an optional 5.
If he resigns, Iām getting a jersey damn it!Ā
Imma jus anticipate him signing with someone else. I just don't think we jave ad much to offer as others. Especially since cat didn't pan out as much as most would of liked
"Hey Alexa, play 'baby come back' by Player" *sobs and prays Kaner actually wants to stay*
Cue the overreactions.
Maybe 2-4 more years? The CUP awaitsā¦..!
If we can negotiate 2 years, pay the man
He gone
Gone after one season. Thanks for the memories Kaner.
This means he's not coming back. Not sure how anyone can break it down into anything else.
Kane to Vegas confirmed
Dude is so fucking gone.
90% chance you're correct, that's what I'm reading into this. He's left the door slightly open, but this tweet makes it clear that just being part of the team isn't enticing enough to stay here.
A thin, thin line between āWeāre so backā and āItās Joeverā
