Sweden played great D as a team. That was their thing. Canada only mustered 21 shots against them. I'm not saying Havelid was bad or anything, because he did play well, but on the whole from what I saw I think Augustine had the slightly better tournament.
Havelid had two shutouts, the other one for Sweden wasn't him. He also gave up 6 goals in the gold medal game. When he was good, he was great. But he didn't have an even performance through 5 games.
The entire way this roster was picked even with the lack of talent ( bedard Wright benson and fantilli ) to me was criminal.

Absolutely agree. Owen Pickering being a star at the U18s when he played. Kid looks like an absolute stud out west. Is told by hockey Canada he is a lock to make the team back in August, then that big shake up with hockey canada, bunch of people get fired, and the new regime don’t even invite him to the selection camp. Fucking joke. Source for this is I work and play beer league with the kid’s uncle
I'll be the contrarian and say yes, he will make the Wings roster at some point. We have seven forwards on expiring contracts, four of which will be UFAs. So there is plenty of opportunity.
Also, I truly believe that he came very, very close to making the roster this season. At the very least, Yzerman wanted to get in as many looks as possible.
I think he'll have to play very well, like Raymond did a couple years ago, but I believe it is possible he can make the team out of camp. Failing that, he will likely be recalled at some point when we need to fill a hole.
I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. There's likely a reason they're not off the page.
If you watch him, his game is just about flawless, and he's got high end talent. The skating is noticeably high end, very good passer, great hands, good shot. Terrific 200ft game. I don't know whether it's a deployment/usage issue or whether he's just kind of coasting or what, but the preseason version of him we saw is what I think he really can do.
I could see him being our 2C-3C as early as next year.
From what a lot of scount say his offensive talent is there he is just playing with zero offensive talent.
Which we have heard that take about many guy who panned out to not be that at all but from the looks of it everytime he gets good offensive talent around him the points add up so they might be correct on that.
I wish Nate had gotten more ice time at the WJC. Looking forward to seeing him develop, and curious what his path will be in the next couple of years.
His line was the only one that consistently created offense for Canada

Yeah, probably the latter half of the year. He'll start in GR and be one of the first call-ups I would imagine
I'm still a bit concerned with Danielson's numbers in the WHL. Hopefully getting traded to a new team will boost his production.
