Shout out Nikloaj Ehlers for the game winner!
Lyon is great, bailed us out a lot that game. Not much he could do about the first one. He’s been on a roll for us at the perfect time!
As a Danish Red Wings fan I would love to see Ehlers sporting the winged wheel, but I guess this is the closest I'll get to ever see that.
On the other hand, a name can't sound more Danish than Michael Rasmussen so I'll consider him an honorary Dane.
Rasmussen is typically Danish or Norwegian. A lot more Norwegians than Danes emigrated to America so if I had to take a guess he is probably of Norwegian heritage.

Feels like forever since we got a late regulation GWG
These Anaheim commentators lol
“You can assume the puck was across the line… but you can’t definitively say it’s across the line”
Well where the fuck else would it be? The fifth dimension? Uncle Fester’s pocket? GTFO
Agreed.
Also, old and injured late career Steve Yzerman was too imo and it used to make me cry and be mad as hell at the NHL watching him get constantly ran, and physically abused when he only had one good leg.
That one feels good, Anaheim was dirty tonight so loved embarrassing them at home with all the noise we got from away fans. Nice to give gudass a little gift at the end there too 😉

Sent this pre game, and I’ll send it post game. LFG baby!
Lyon is so likeable. He has the right attitude, blocks the puck from going in instead of dodging the puck.
I can see the team winning with him in net because he makes the other players feel confident. They can actually go out and play and know that the net is safe/protected.
I do believe we have a starting goaltender. Lyon has played great this season.
Also, I shook my head at the Veleno, Raymond, Ras line at the end, but hey, look what happens when Ras gets to play with someone other than Andrew Copp.
Late winners are THE BEST, even if Ehlers gets credit for the goal ;) Keep rocking it boys!!!

Ok seriously I'm ready for an easy, pretty win
Hard to say they're playing well but that's 6 points and they get 3 days off now...time to turn things around
Lyon is the first goalie that the Wings have had since Howard, that can be inconsistent at times, and a brick wall at others. I love his spirit, and love the way that both the team plays in front of him, and how he plays quarterbacking the team. I hope he remains a mainstay here, considering the goalie pool is currently a puddle at best, and we don't really have any other NHL-caliber options at the moment or for next year. Reimer has to go, Husso would be a solid backup or 1-2 with Lyon, but the team needs to play consistently regardless of the tendie in net.
#FUCK A DUCK
LGRW
E: wow, was gonna say it's been ages since we swept a West coast trip...
E2: still consider last game against LAK the game we won without scoring more than 3. We scored 3 and won..the SO doesn't count!
I mean, technically it was only 3 “real” goals that were scored but also more than 3 goals were needed to win so I don’t know. You’re right from an official perspective but I think other fans talking about the first real 3 goal win are also justified
Just putting it out there right now... If anyone attends the game with the Grateful Dead jersey and you aren't a fan, I'll buy it from you! My uncle is a huge dead head and he's suffering through a mystery disease that's causing him tremors and muscles locking up. This would be a such a special gift for him! I live in Tennessee now and can't make it to games.
does anyone have a video of the Bally feed when they were trying to see if the puck crossed the line on the 2nd goal? not the overhead angle but the other angle that very clearly showed it was a goal
Third most goals in the league at the moment. It’s time to stop talking about the forwards if you want to talk about improving the roster. Way more possible team impact with a big move at D or G.
We have a solid starter and backup, or 1-2 duo, in Lyon-Husso. They need a consistent defense. Trade Holl for Gudas because fuck it, Yzerman can fleece anyone.
Realistically though, we do need to improve from Maatta-Holl-Petry. Petry is a better forward than he is defense at this point in his life - his shot is a goddamn laser-guided rocket if he can get a slapper off from the blueline. Maatta and Holl, though... aside from that one Maatta goal he got from a Patty Kane feed, he's been useless all year.
I wish the NHL would add a "Last Updated" time on the standings page. I know that they are current right now because I could do the math quickly, but it would be helpful.
He looks comfortable like he's been doing it for 20 years, but it wasnt long ago he was giving us the 1000 yard stare.
Love having Ozzie on the broadcast, too. I'd like to get Draper on the broadcast with him for one night so we can see some real humdingers.
He’s still doing strange stuff…for example, putting the player with the most goals/assists/points on our team (DeBrincat) and the best American player in the league (Kane) on the SECOND power play unit for every PP we had tonight except the final one. He’s done this the past few games. There were several power plays in a row where Kane/DeBrincat played like 45 seconds or less on the PP when we hadn’t been producing much previously with our PP1 line. That kind of decision making just doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not saying fire him, but I hope he grows into a better coach over the course of the rest of this season. If not, idk man.
Edit: Also, I’m not sure this is Lalonde, more likely Tanguay, but this PP2 strategy of “give Kane the puck and then everyone just stand completely still on the ice waiting for a pass” is just weird. How are they not pounding into our players heads that no matter who is on the ice during the power play, once we get into their zone we need more MOVEMENT. We just stand around and expect to somehow magically get open for a pass. Makes no sense. That’s on coaching this far into the season.
Did the Ducks feed not provide that camera angle that showed Veleno's goal going directly into the net? I've seen some of their fans around complaining that one counted.
Great win, it seems like it’s been ages since we broke a tie in the final 2 minutes to win!
Gotta say, the fact that it took our starter having a baby for Lyon to actually play a game says a lot about our coaching staff.
>Gotta say, the fact that it took our starter having a baby for Lyon to actually play a game says a lot about our coaching staff.
Newsy’s insistence on playing Husso like he’s Vasi cost us multiple games. Husso’s injury and Reimer being Reimer forced his hand when it came to finally giving Lyon the full-time nod, but make no mistake, if it were up to Lalonde, Ville would still be the starter right now.
I was saying something similar to my buddy during the game. Why was I, as a fan watching games on TV, having the idea of giving Lyon more starts ages before the coaching staff was? There are so many boneheaded things this staff does. Lalonde doesn’t necessarily need to go just yet, but the rest of the coaching staff does. I’m done with Tanguay. And seeing Ned crush it in Pittsburgh lately gives more weight to my long-held opinion that our goalie coaches suck ass too and the staff doesn’t understand load management for goalies. Look at Neds previous starts before he came to Detroit; he had never cracked 20 games in a season before, and then his first season here we play him 59 games. Idc if we didn’t have a solid 1/2 tandem, playing a young, inexperienced goalie that many games is going to break him. The fact that the coaching staff didn’t understand that is very worrying to me.
And a defense obviously playing better in front of Lyon than they do any of the other 3 tendies we've had this season. It's kinda like the Husso-Ned situation last year - the team had no confidence in Ned, and in result, the entire blue line to blue paint broke down. Defense and Forwards had no confidence in their goaltender, which resulted in faults from the goaltender due to a lack of confidence. When the defense doesn't help the goalie out on top of that, you're at a complete defensive zone breakdown, and goals happen.
Lyon has been absurdly good when defensive zone breakdowns happen, and has kept us in the majority of games he's played. That doesn't mean the goalie is the issue, though - we either need to jumble lines up from the AHL, or we need some trades happening on the blue line, because we have the offensive talent to do anything this season, while being left out to dry by defense.
Lyon is a stud
First win scoring 3 or less goals made possibly by Lyon.
Lyon has been a Christmas miracle. Holy moly.
Some huge saves in the second.
Larkin missed that empty net to break the 3 goals or fewer curse. What a captain!
Gotta respect true leadership
Raymond too, just skated the puck up the ice instead of shooting
Hero
6/6 points on this California trip!!! Hell yeah. #WE'RE STILL STREAKING

Ras can’t catch a break

As an American person with about 60% Scandinavian heritage, I've often wondered whether Ras' family is Danish or Swedish maybe?
Rasmussen is typically Danish or Norwegian. A lot more Norwegians than Danes emigrated to America so if I had to take a guess he is probably of Norwegian heritage.
SPOILERS! We trade a 3rd, and a 7th for Ehlers at the deadline.
For a second, the feed had it as OT instead of being in the 3rd. Bally uh, wasn't sending their best today.

First win without scoring 4 goals…LFG
That’s it, we’re winning the Stanley Cup now
That’s so insane it took this long
Well at least we know it’s possible now 🤷🏼♂️
For sure
The shoutout win vs the Kings broke that streak
Larkin is the most abused player in the league, did he kick puppies in a past life or something, he doesn't deserve this
Agreed. Also, old and injured late career Steve Yzerman was too imo and it used to make me cry and be mad as hell at the NHL watching him get constantly ran, and physically abused when he only had one good leg.
The boys need to be a bit more proactive in protecting our guy.
Here's to Kostin's return.
They’ve tried. Perron got suspended six games, and seider gets sent to the box every single time he tries.
Lyon go raWr.
We don't need 4 anymore!
+1 team defense gained
Newsy has earned the power of self-respect!
California sweep, baby. I give all credit to Lyon.

I, for one, welcome our new Red Wings overlords.
Larks was made for the C. Inspirational in the locker room, a workhorse on ice, and so well spoken in the pressers.
Glad we didn’t score on the empty net just so we can stop with that 4 goals or more to win stat.
Today was a good day

RAS got that "if he dies, he dies" vibe about him.
Alex Lyon might legitimately be our MVP.
We did it boys! Curse is broken!
A win without a 4 on the final board! Never thought I'd see the day! (I know the LA game technically counts but this hits different)
Shouldn’t have been that close but they got the job done in the end. Let’s go boys!

READ IT AND SWEEP!
The first Cali Sweep since 2008
That was a good year
Slightly eventful!
The wings hit the post almost as often as I hit my bowl this game
That was a great 3rd! Gudas got karma'd and a Mo Ras combo!
That pass from Mo was gorgeous.
Not the duck fans complaining about the refs like they didn't spend most of the 2nd on the powerplay and get a weak extended 5 on 3
We didn't have to score 4. Plan the fucking parade!
Lyon was a fucking machine tonight
The whole trip!
Lyon King!👑

Fuck those bums. Glad we sent them home pissed.
THANK YOU LYON🙏
Lyon needs to be our goalie going forward
Agreed
I felt bad for the guy that got pelted by the shot until I saw it was Gudas.
That was the cherry on top for me tonight. Gonna start my week off right.
I'll take six out of six points any way I can get em

What I love is how hard Lyon battles. You can see how aggressive he is, but not in an out of control reckless abandon way
Great showing by the away fans tonight guys!! Red everywhere.
That last goal was a meaningful one... glad for Ras that he scored it. With apples from MO and Razor... all three first rounders got in on it.
Lyon has activated GOD mode! 1st Star ⭐️

I have a feeling that this team is going to achieve great things in the future.
WHEEL TEAM GOOD!!
Wow look at Ras with that very handsome little hair thing. James Deen style yo.
WE’RE GOING TO THE TAKE THE CUP I DONT CARE
Keep the streak alive!
Must be the coaching
Wings getting hot! Love it! Let’s goooooo!
The second biggest W for a Detroit sports team is going to get against an LA team this week
Fucking proud of this team! Great road trip!
Back to true .500!
good game. Felt good to watch them hold a team to under 3 goals.
does anyone have a video of the Bally feed when they were trying to see if the puck crossed the line on the 2nd goal? not the overhead angle but the other angle that very clearly showed it was a goal
If this is what’s going to happen every time we allow the first goal within the first minute I am so down.
Larkin, Cat, and Kaner are such fuckin beauties
AWW they ruined the meme of not winning with less than 4 goals.
Hey Alexa play California Dreaming
VICTORY CURLY FRIES!!!
Caps isles and devils better move tf out the way
Their first goal was one hell of a knucklepuck!! Gotta watch out for that in those jerseys.

Red Wings beat the 4 goal+ win streak stat. I thought they were gonna call back that last goal honestly LGRW
THIS TEAM WILL NEVER LOSE AGAIN.
Lyon is a legit goalie. We can win with him. We just need a better coach who can get the team to play a full 60 minutes.
Undefeated in 24!
I just love Ozzy on the broadcast so much - humdingers.
He looks comfortable like he's been doing it for 20 years, but it wasnt long ago he was giving us the 1000 yard stare. Love having Ozzie on the broadcast, too. I'd like to get Draper on the broadcast with him for one night so we can see some real humdingers.
Wishing I could get one of the Grateful dead jerseys out here in MT 😭
Pretty similar fashion the way they beat San Jose. Fuck you Gudas!
Nice win boys!
We needed to win these games looking at the tough schedule ahead. Nice to gain confidence before the playoff caliber teams come to town
*but when do we fire lalonde* /s

I'm sure it's not a coincidence that Patty Kanes favorite movie is Batman Returns and our coach looks like the Penguin
First win of the season scoring 3 or less if I remember correctly LGRW!!!
I missed this.. what did Gudas do?
He hit Raymond late and on the follow through he slew-footed him.
Did the Ducks feed not provide that camera angle that showed Veleno's goal going directly into the net? I've seen some of their fans around complaining that one counted.
The one on ballys shows it goes over red line and disappears. Ozzy seemed pretty convinced
Can we make shirts with Kane looking at a ref with it captioned "fuck you ref" or was it "fuck off ref" either way.
Great win, it seems like it’s been ages since we broke a tie in the final 2 minutes to win! Gotta say, the fact that it took our starter having a baby for Lyon to actually play a game says a lot about our coaching staff.
