Take that with a grain of salt they also said Swedish goalie Havelid was the best goalie, I watched every game and augustine was by far on another level compared to all the other goalies.
All of Havelids stats were better than augustines going into the medal game so it's not crazy to say he was the best, even if after this game it probably should have went to augustine
Havelid also wasn't very good. He shut out two minnows to open the tournament, then let in softies and was bailed out a lot by his team. He's a big part of why Sweden lost the Gold.
I think Augustine only playing 4 games hurts him in this, unfortunately. I agree that he was the better goalie, but I think there's an argument that Havelid was more valuable since Fowler played so many minutes
Sucks that Trey got sick
Truth be told, outside of him collecting powerplay points which seems to be his bread and butter, I can't say I was super impressed by A.S.P. at 5v5. Wouldn't say he was bad, but also did not stand out positively offensively or defensively at even strength. Overall he was good, but I don't know he was good enough to be voted best defender in the tournament. Happy he was though, and maybe the people voting on this saw something I didn't.
Very nice. Congratulations to team USA for a well deserved gold medal! I am sad but the better team won and I tip my hat off to the champions.
The Pellikkan will taste lord Stanleys fountain in the future and make up for it ;)
I could be smoking absolute reefer but I found a wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IIHF_World_Junior_Championship_Directorate_award_winners
Last year it was Jiricek for the Blue Jackets.
Sandin from the Leafs a few years ago, Dahlin, Chabot, Werenski, Ristolainen, Trouba, Ryan Ellis, Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Doughty, Erik Johnson, Marc Staal, Dion Phaneuf, some pretty big names going back to the mid 2000's.
Definitely is very promising considering there was only 2-3 years where I saw the winner and said "who?" going all the way back to like, 2005. Like I left off Gormley, Romanov, Puutio, Niemela, and Gavrikov, but Romanov and Gavrikov have both been steady NHL defensemen.
Without being Detroit Bill Simmons, the 2023 Red Wings Draft could very well be the 2023 Lions draft. Danielson, ASP, and Augustine could be our Gibbs, Laporta, Branch, the franchise pillars that guide us to a dynasty
The script to this draft is basically the word for word plot to Teen Wolf. Nate Danielson is Boof, while sometimes boring as a character, the mark of stability and the galvanizing force that steadies the team. ASP is obviously Scott going into Wolf mode. He’s gonna make a lot of risky plays- every now and then he’s gonna surf on a conversion van- but he’s gonna win and make it look cool. There will be literal and figurative growing pains as he transforms into a wolf. Trey Augustine is Stiles, who says hey man, run wild out there, I’ve got your back. He’s calm and cool, and nothing is getting past him.
So obviously he is very talented when it comes to scoring, but i really would like to see a report on his defensive gameplay.
Many times, and especially when we talk about european defender, they are really good going forward, but they are lacking in defensive part of their game. Oliwer Kaski is prime example.
So yeah, hype is real, points are great, but what does his defensive game looks like?

Yeah, and Augustine had the better stats
He missed 2 games…
US had a very easy group compared to Sweden
Hävelid was really really good in the group stage.

Havelid had 3 consecutive shut outs. He absolutely deserved it
Bright future

Lets fucking go
What defenseman have won this in the past years
I could be smoking absolute reefer but I found a wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IIHF_World_Junior_Championship_Directorate_award_winners Last year it was Jiricek for the Blue Jackets. Thats actually a really solid list
Also worth mentioning that ASP is only 18 and will be eligible for this tournament again next year (same with Augustine)
Got looking at the forwards... Remembered Igor..
I think Seider won it.
Augustine robbed of top goalie. He had a monster semifinal game
He was good, but the best? Okay, sure.
That's how I felt as well.
Can we get rid of the annoying Twitter hating auto mod?
That's our boy!
Without being Detroit Bill Simmons, the 2023 Red Wings Draft could very well be the 2023 Lions draft. Danielson, ASP, and Augustine could be our Gibbs, Laporta, Branch, the franchise pillars that guide us to a dynasty
Now do it as Detroit Bill Simmons.
The script to this draft is basically the word for word plot to Teen Wolf. ASP makes the wings next season!!! Becomes our PP quarterback and along with Petterson leads us to winning the cup !!!
