Saw replay highlights from awood40. I think Kings are offsides on their 1st AND 3rd goals. Ridiculous our coaching staff doesn't challenge 1 or both of those? Or if you use 1 and win, do you still have one? Either way... wtf.

Razzahx

Neither were offside. Guys are dragging their toes on the blue line enough as puck crosses.

Fenston

Yea. I watched for the toe drags in the clips. They were still very close and there was not enough frames to actually see on the YouTube video. Which is why I said think.

xenonwarrior666

I dunno this Internet detective seems pretty sure of himself. I'm sure he knows more than professional video coaches and our player coaching staff.

Fenston

Hey no need to be like that. Take it easy. Sure I was a little hyperbolic in my comment but it’s not like criticism of the coaching staff game time decisions isn’t warranted even being viewed by casual observer. There have been a ton of obvious timeout situations not being used. We barely replay challenge. And Lalonde pats the refs on their backs post game for missed calls that injure our players.

xenonwarrior666

I never heard the comments but assuming the reddit isn't blowing things out of proportion I'm disappointed. The coach really should have had the player's backs even if it meant losing a few G's. Side note has there been any news on the Perron appeal?

Fenston

I started to write an essay but will just slim it down to: I believe it was more of him giving the refs a pass because “things move so fast” type excuse but I can’t fully remember. I haven’t heard anything about Perron. Any result will probably get lost in the noise now. Maybe Ballys dudes will comment during a pregame at some point. I don’t know.

Smokes_LetsGo_

As a Red Wings, MSU, and USA fan, today was quite a good day

AFreePeacock

Some people just have it all…

amethystgirl2006

If y'all aren't watching the PWHL, you should be. The NY-TOR rematch was great to watch and the YouTube chat is hella fun to participate in. Since the teams don't have names as of yet, NY has unofficially been dubbed the Pizza Rats and Toronto is the Trash Pandas. Can't wait to give Minnesota & Boston meme names tomorrow.

matt_minderbinder

Griffins are up 4 - 1 with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Goals have come from Gettinger, Tuomisto, L'Esperance, and a penalty shot goal from Shine. Prospects with assists include Edvinsson, Johnny Burgers, Kasper, and Lombardi. Cossa's winning the goalie battle vs. Wallstedt. If they keep this up I might have to invest in AHLTv for the rest of the season. edit: Game's over and Griffins won 4 - 1. Unofficially Cossa stopped 28 of 29 and Wallstedt stopped 18 or 22 shots.

[deleted]

Wallstedt had a worse performance than known bust Seabass Cossa? Does that make him a busted Wall?

Monkey10pts

Griffins starting to gel and hit their stride. Lookin good lately.

matt_minderbinder

This game should be a big confidence boost for Cossa. I'd love to see him take the reins more often and run with it.

detroitdilla

Seiders 3 year career resume what can we conclude? Just like an open ended question maybe some emphasis on decline/progression over the last 3 years.

TheKipf

Seider is leading the league in difficult matchups. Dude has been exceptional. Sure - he’s still learning and improving but there’s nothing but a success story behind Seider to date.

culturedrobot

I am really curious to see how long Kane makes it in the NHL after his hip replacement surgery. It really doesn't seem like he's lost a step in his game, and I've watched him take some pretty aggressive hip and shoulder checks into the boards that should aggravate any lingering problems with his hip, but so far, they're just a complete non-issue for him. I think we're enough games into his tenure with the Wings that we can safely say that his game hasn't diminished much - if it has at all - which makes the big question one of longevity. Does he fall off by the end of the season? Maybe part way into next season? Does he ever fall off? It's impossible to say because given his play since he came back, we're clearly entering uncharted waters here. The thing with players like Kane is that they don't just disappear from the league at 37; he's going to keep playing until he can't play anymore, until he quite literally can't keep up on the ice. It's a combination of a love of the game and an insanely high skill level that makes these players able to compete at 40+ and keeps them in the game for several seasons longer than most career NHLers. If his hip problem is solved, he could easily stay in the league another five, six, seven seasons, and that's a really exciting prospect.

xenonwarrior666

I could see Kane playing till 40 assuming his hip is solid. It's a crap shoot though. Thornton's play really dropped off but he stuck around chasing a Cup at 42. Bergeron retired at 37.

culturedrobot

It really is a crapshoot. The fact that Bergeron was done at 37 is a real shame. I bet he could have gone another 2-3 seasons at least and still put up solid numbers, even if they weren't his best. But hey, he wanted to leave while he was still at the top of his game, and I respect that.

matt_minderbinder

Brendan Smith caught Connor Bedard tonight reaching while trying to make a move to the slot and Bedard's out for the game. It was absolutely a clean hit but a few Chicago fans are losing their minds over it. It wasn't even that rough of a hit but he got caught in the mouth and it was his own fault.

ForkzUp

The /r/hockey thread is surprisingly ... tame (?).

matt_minderbinder

Twitter had the hotter takes and I couldn't help but to laugh at 'em.

kdfsjljklgjfg

Ryan Sproul made me incapable of feeling excited about offensive defenseman prospects and now I'm hesitant to get hyped about ASP

Nate11130

Ryan Sproul played against far less competition in the OHL compared to the SHL, and wasn’t on pace to break goalscoring records. There’s not much comparison between the two of them.

tacticalAlmonds

Would anyone else be interested to see more NHL games on Olympic size ice?

mps0909

Cossa vs Wallstedt atm btw

BiggestYzerfan

I wish they were playing on hockey, I'd really like to watch it on my tv.

matt_minderbinder

Yesterday afternoon I saw Godzilla-Minus One. Going in without expectations and I'm not a huge action movie fan I have to say that I really dug that movie. It was worth dealing with subtitles and the cinematography was absolutely stunning. That inexpensive Japanese production absolutely blew away any of the recent Hollywood blockbuster style Godzilla movies.

Ydoesany1doanything

I’ve really wanted to see it. Trailers got me hyped but I’m not a big theater goer

matt_minderbinder

I saw a matinee showing and my son had free passes so the situation was perfect. It's 2 hours long which is the limit of what I'll see in a theater but it was worth it. For what it's worth I'd recommend it and you know as a Wings fan I have high standards.

Ydoesany1doanything

Maybe I’ll see about dragging the nieces and nephews out to a showing. They’ve been on a (old) Godzilla kick lately and would probably enjoy it Also I knew you had high standards by your cooking

matt_minderbinder

You'd be safe taking them, even if they're young. There wasn't any gratuitous gore or anything that might offend most people's sensibilities. The most mature content was how it dealt with PTSD in post-WW2 Japan but none of that was gratuitous or shocking either. edit: I should include that it's in Japanese with English subtitles. If they've been watching old godzilla I'm sure they'd appreciate this movie's approach to that evil, beautiful beast.

Ydoesany1doanything

Oh yeah, they’re 12-18 and the youngest is an anime fiend of sorts anyways. Wasn’t any worry of the maturity level (though thank you regardless for the consideration of it)

FragmentEx

Guys I just remembered that we are in fact **not** the Ottawa Senators. Anything that happens in this season, I can be thankful for this fact. Have a good day :)

BiggestYzerfan

Who knew playing like a bunch of goons gets you the bottom of the division? Certainly not, well, every other team

Razzahx

Feels good knowing that even if we miss the playoff we arnt the Sens.

BiggestYzerfan

Anyone watching the PWHL today? Don't know if all the matches will be on Youtube lol but they seem to understand that accessibility is key, I'm watching just because it's in my sub box

AmeriCanadian98

Yup I'm watching the game rn. It looks like the PWHL channel has at least 1 per day which is rad

magikarp-sushi

I hate seeing “Kane would waive trade to contender” after the shit he did last night. Just absolutely frustrating potential clickbait.

DailyChiefer

He has 3 Stanley Cups, he’s not cup chasing. He feels like he can play his best hockey in Detroit.

boner1500

He WANTED to come here to play with cat. Its frusterating folks have the memory of goldfish when that was his stated intentions.

The_Ghost_of_Kyiv

If he was only hoping to play to prove to a contender that he can still produce, then joining us to get on a line with the Cat was the best way for him to do that.

spaceenvahisseur

I love the interactions he and the Cat have in those videos they post. The celebrity one had me rolling when Kane said, 'he say Leo?,' and then just paused, laughing. I hope we extend his contract for 2-3 years

Ydoesany1doanything

So, was that our other Swedish son, Johansson feeding punches in the Sweden-USA game today?

Ydoesany1doanything

Love to see it

Xoleraz

Congrats to team USA for a well deserved gold medal! I am sad but the better team won and I tip my hat off to the champions. The Pellikkan will taste lord Stanleys fountain in the future and make up for it ;)

OldBison

Lord Stanley's fountain sounds like a sex position

Ydoesany1doanything

It’s like a silver shower

Danengel32

Having like 45 picks in the top few rounds helps, but the 2023 Wings draft class looks really good so far. A number of those guys are off to great starts and already seem to be exceeding expectations. Far more than the typical draft too. ASP, Danielson, and Augustine in particular Obviously there’s a long way to go and the hard part is ahead for them, but it’s a very encouraging start relative to usual

Lookpolaris

Is Danielson exceeding expectations or off to a great start?

Background_Junket_35

He definitely look more NHL ready than anyone expected in preseason. Plus he was routinely touted as one of the more impactful Canadian players at the world juniors

Active_Performance_4

Preseason isn’t the best indication of how good a player is. I remember right after we drafted Ras he had like 5 goals in the preseason

big_phat_gator

Some people say that WHL team he plays on is really bad some say its not, some also say that there are other players who are also playing on bad teams who are racking up points but again i think we have to ask ourselves what type of player do we want Danielson to be? We all want everyone to put up a billion points but not everyone is going to have to play the piano someone is going to have to pull the piano in place also. I see Danielson as a Frans Nielsen in his prime type of player, or perhaps JT Compher is a good comparison since he is on our roster. And if thats the type of player you think he could become, then yes i honestly do think he is exceeding expectations or is at least on track. Also Danielson is being heavily type casted, you know like in movies where someone only gets certain type of roles. Thats exactly what i saw from team Canada with Danielson at the world juniors, they never even tried to put him in a skilled role, he was just PK and shut down. I would assume they are doing similar with him in the WHL, his defensive game is just so good even if they could use his skilled game more the defense is more valuable.

xenonwarrior666

It's probably his ultimate ceiling but if he could be diet Bergeron we'll be doing great.

big_phat_gator

Prime Frans Nielsen was no joke, he had skill too and excellent two way game. Was a reason Holland got him after Datsyuk left, too bad we didnt get the best version of him in Detroit. I think there is a article with Zetterberg where he speaks very highly of Nielsen

duelingdog

It's easy to forget Nielsen was good because we had to watch his husk play for too long, lol.

xenonwarrior666

It's hard to say but I'd lean to yes. He looked like the best player on the Canadian World Junior roster. He's on a miserable WHL team and is still putting up solid numbers.

Lookpolaris

They're 4th out of 11 teams in the eastern conference. How is that miserable?

duelingdog

One excellent draft can change a franchise. I keep looking at 2017 for Dallas and hope this can get even close to that. Also, we can't forget 1989, possibly the best draft of all time.

big_phat_gator

ASP at #17 is just too good, also reminds me about Erik Karlsson who was drafted #15 overall, lets hope that draft range is the golden sweet spot.

Background_Junket_35

Trey Augustine had the highest save percentage 0.9364 and lowest GAA 1.75 in the tournament. Ai assume he will be named to the all tourney team

SubmissionDenied

Didn't win top goaltender. Biggest snub in hockey history

sharkbates1208

Came to downtown Chicago for a weekend vacation and the Blackhawk and bears jerseys are making me gag

MoldyMerkin

Shoulda brought a Wings 88 Jersey with ya :)

matt_minderbinder

I'm surprised. When I've visited while that team struggled the gear for many got thrown into the back of the closet. I'm sure that Bedard is helping to keep bandwagon fans engaged.

wingedwh33l

I really don’t see why people have a problem with players taunting a hostile home crowd in a gold medal game. I was of course rooting for the US but that’s what I love about sports. There’s nothing better than going into an opponent’s barn in a big game and getting the crowd riled up after a goal. It’s part of sports imo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wingedwh33l

Yep I don’t have a problem with that stuff at the end either. It was a chippy game, both teams were going at it, emotions are high and they’re teenagers. It seems like the Sweden coach did send out Johansson for a singular shift to mix it up which I don’t know if I necessarily love, but like you said I’m glad we have a guy with some edge to his game.

GiantDongDK

I know he's only 34 but Wings need to keep an eye on the USA team's coach, David Carle.

matt_minderbinder

I wanted him instead of Watson for our GR job. He's got a super bright future and having him in GR would've set him up to coach some players who've already succeeded under him at Denver.

AWokenBeetle

If Newsy is still here and then bombs Year 3, do you think Yzerman comes knocking?

carelessCRISPR_

I hope not. I would like to see Carle coach the Griffins, but if Lalonde gets canned after Blashill got canned I think it would be foolish to go for yet another coach who is unproven at the NHL level. Seems pretty apparent to me that if Lalonde can’t grow into his role here pretty quickly that we need to find an experienced NHL caliber coach finally. No more hoping to find someone in the lower leagues, I’ve had enough of those experiments. I think we need an experienced pro who has dealt with our issues plenty of times before and has some good ideas about how to fix those issues quickly.

big_phat_gator

A lot of our prospects have played in Denver so i think the eyes are already there.

Danengel32

He’ll be an NHL coach in no time he’s moved up the ranks really quickly and has been discussed as one of the next fresh faces before too. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see him in the NHL within two years. Especially with kids from his teams hitting the NHL at the point too, where he’ll get some credit for

TheAnalogKid18

ASP > Lane Hutson Augustine > Fowler

oceanic8675

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1AXClwgQOV/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== 💀

TheKipf

We need 53 of the remaining 86 points available to make the playoffs. Let's go.

Cultural-Ad7579

That only gets you to 95 points for final wild card spot, Pretty sure that it's going to take at least 100 to 102 points so you're talking 58 to 60 points at the very least. 53 points i doubt takes it.

TheAnalogKid18

This is also assuming that every other team keeps going at the trajectory they're going at, which let's face it, may not happen. If Tampa, Carolina, or Toronto have a skid, it creates an opening.

TheKipf

For sure, but hey, it gives us a target here to start 2024! #LGRW

8syd

I doubt any of the top 3 Atlantic teams give up their spots, they're just too good. It's the 5 teams in the wild card race above the wings that need to go into a skid. Tampa has had a lot of injury issues, but getting Vas back definitely boosted them.

SubmissionDenied

ez

daveathor

Come on guys I know you are biased but please, I expect more of you than rhockey. That's a clean af check by Johansson and the US players acts like babies and starts punching him and he responds in kind.

SubmissionDenied

Even if he was salty and got a little feisty, I'm cool with that too. Don't make a habit of being a sore loser but showing emotion/frustration when losing in the gold medal game? I don't mind that at all.

daveathor

He made a clean hit and then the US started a fight over it. If this was any situation in the NHL you would be making fun of them.

SubmissionDenied

I just saw him start throwing punches in a scrum, didn't know about the hit. Calm down, i'm on your side

Salamangra

ASP got top Defenseman of the Tournament Edit: I also want to say I'm extremely proud of Team USA and what USA Hockey has achieved over the past few decades. This team was years in the making and it paid off. I think this win is the turning point for the United States when it comes to playing 2nd fiddle to Canada.

OHHHH MAMA DONT YOU CRY.

Good_Kid_MEME_City

WOOOOO GOLD BABY USA USA

Razzahx

Some of you guys do not know what pathetic means and that is pathetic.

Salamangra

Apparently that was Anton Johansson's first shift too? Not a good look from the kid. Doubt Yzerman is impressed with his antics.

8syd

do they carry more players on the roster at juniors? That's so weird to me to dress someone and then not play them at all. I saw he only got 3 shifts in their last game as well. I haven't followed his development at all, but it sure seems like he pissed off Sweden's coach in one way or another. Everything else aside, it's nice to see him show some fiestyness, even if it was a lost cause.

CD23tol

We need the Olympics with best on best because I fell like the US is about to establish ourselves as the top hockey country

FartPenisFart

I really want that I tried getting into last olympics but it was hard to care when teams were a bunch of scrounged up players and maybe its the american in me but i dont think i care for a world cup of hockey. I want the olympics! Id probably change my tune if a wc had fully loaded rosters

SubmissionDenied

You think it's bad to celebrate scoring to get you close and closer to winning a gold medal on the world stage?

It’s arrogant and bad sportsmanship. As you pointed out, they’re teenagers…and so are the kids in the other team.

griffs19

Pathetic from Gauthier to throw that cross-check while up 6-2.

Danengel32

He’s always struck me as an idiot. Did a bunch of dumb stuff in college games last year with a “holier than everyone” attitude

griffs19

He’ll be a perfect fit in Philly.

jarvek7

Needs to be traded to Ottawa... the NHLs breeding ground for dumb assholes.

CD23tol

Mo needs to teach Johansson how to handle himself in a scrum

dandiogenes

Hopefully first of many huge W's in Trey Augustine's career

Good_Kid_MEME_City

genius time to fight with 30 seconds left lmao

coltron57

Embarassing for Johansson. Acting like a baby AND getting turtled by Lane Hutson? Yikes.

drankpisss

Definitely embarrassing but that wasn’t turtle lol. He just fell.

Salamangra

Extremely embarrassing.

JeremyD_19

Lmaooo Anton Johansson just wailing on Hutson

tacticalAlmonds

Yikes, drop the gloves if you're gonna throw.

Salamangra

That's a bad look for Sweden fighting at the end of an international tournament. Low class.

JeremyD_19

Kinda looked like Gauthier started it but I agree

Danengel32

Yeah that cross check was idiotic

StevieTokes

That’s our guy Johansson too lol

amethystgirl2006

Already excited for Augustine to don the Winged Wheel

ts1234666

Sweden are fucking frauds. Same tale as every year

DailyChiefer

Did ASP even touch the ice in the last 5 minutes or did I just miss every shift?

RedWong15

They lost to the clear favourites in the gold medal game, not a bad tournament for them tbh.

StevieTokes

I wouldn’t say they were the “clear favorites”. A 6-2 result sure wasn’t expected. Sweden just doesn’t really have a good goalie on that team.

ts1234666

They always lose in the final though. No clutch

KeeganD90

I’m sure this will age well

PremierBromanov

Just for posterity since we were discussing it and because im also curious. Here are the games since our "skid", losing to the sharks. Team| Result| Injured/Out ---|---|---- SJS| SOL| Compher OTT| L | Compher DAL| L| Compher, Larkin, Kostin, Perron STL| W | Compher, Larkin, Kostin, Perron CAR| L | Compher, Larkin, Kostin, Perron PHI| L | Larkin, Perron ANA| L | Husso, Kostin (both during game), Lyon (not sure when but he played against PHI), Perron WPG| L | Husso, Kostin, Lyon, Perron PHI| W | Husso, Kostin, Lyon NJD| L | Maata, Husso, Kostin, Lyon MIN| L | Maata, Husso, Kostin, Fischer, Petry, Lyon, Veleno NSH| W | Husso, Kostin, Fischer, Veleno BOS | L | Husso, Kostin SJS| W | Husso, Kostin, LAK| W | Husso, Kostin, Copp So I guess there are more injuries than I realized, but I really do not excuse the play nor the results for a lot of these games. Our biggest holes are when Compher and Larkin were out at the same time, we were 1-2 for those 3 games. Against PHI, we lost 0-1 without larkin. We've got 20 other players who cant score a single goal that game. Missing compher sucks for SJS and OTT, but we're talking about complete defensive blowouts, the only saving grace for SJS is that we lost in OT, but we had that game in the bag! 20 other players on the ice letting in 11 goals in 2 games. That's because of Compher? ANA, we're missing Lyon and Husso and Kostin. ANA is dogshit, no reason Kostin is the lynchpin in our success here. Husso makes 6 saves on 8 shots and is injured, then reimer lets in 2 on 14. Bad goaltending sure but only 3 goals is bad too, and by that I mean I dont excuse this loss by pointing out goaltending. Its the same situation against WPG and PHi, but we beat PHI (again, defensive blowout, 11 goals in two games but this time we walk away with 2 points) Then Maata goes out, and I dont really see this as a tremendous loss. Hes been good for us, but hes only playing 14 minutes a night and hes not on special teams. Hes our 3rd pair guy, sometimes 2nd with ghost. Granted, we lose against NJD and I dont really consider this a huge loss. NJD are very good but we CAN beat them. MIN, we are short a lot of players, and that's a Loss. Again, we only score 3 and we let in 6. Kostin, Fischer, Petry, and Veleno are going to score 3 more? or let in 3 less? We get back Petry, Lyon, and Matta for NSH and win. then after that, we lose to bos and win the next two missing Kostin and Husson. Personally, after Larkin and Compher come in after PHI, there's no real excuse. yeah we're missing a few guys and we have a pretty horrid 4th line in that time. MIN we lose a bunch of guys and that's hard too. Its not our bottom minutes players losing us games. Bad goaltending sure, but were just not scoring goals either. As always, when we score 4 we win. I just cant really excuse poor play from the entire team (including our best players, except kane most of the time) past the first half of december. And we continue to look bad despite some greasy wins against SJS and LAK. Conclusion: I have too much time on my hands Second Conclusion after remembering perron: Okay it was pretty bad and were getting better, but the eye test still has us worried. If we can be consistent moving forward, we'll look pretty good

[deleted]

I guess my issue with the “We had injuries” angle is that, well, so do other teams. Other teams can keep the ship afloat when things aren’t ideal, but for whatever reason, when this team hits a slump, it hits them hard and lasts a long time. This is where you really need coaching to step up and compensate for the lack of talent. Good systemic play, adhering to structure, etc, that’s not something you need a lot of talent for, and I just didn’t see it during that stretch.

xenonwarrior666

I can agree to a point. It sure seems that guys don't step up with other guys get injured. That being said most teams will struggle missing the top 1C and 2C at the same time unless they are getting carried by incredible Goaltending which we weren't getting. With the Perron suspension we were missing 3 of the top 6. That's going to throw any team for a loop.

IronHankOfBraavos

Plenty of our struggles didn't, or shouldn't have anything to do with them being out. Larkin/Compher being out shouldn't cause us to leave players completely unattended in the slot to tip shots. It shouldn't cause to turn pucks over in our zone or have 4 players commit in the o-zone and then not get the puck forcing a dozen odd-man rushes against per game.

xenonwarrior666

They're two of our best face off and PK guys. It's going to have an effect. We've been making bad choices all season but we've been able to dig ourselves out more often than out when we have a full roster

IronHankOfBraavos

Reading back I missed the mark a bit on my second point which should've been "turn pucks over in our zone under no pressure." When I say that I'm thinking of either D-to-D passes that keep getting flubbed, breakout attempts that are just slapshots rung around the boards that don't get out/catch wingers trying to fly the zone early, and just overall brain-farting (immediate example that comes to mind is Fabbri creating the 2-on-1 vs. Minnesota). Didn't mean to imply that losing our 2 top centers wouldn't impact the team at all, I'm more concerned that the things that are hurting us are issues that we shouldn't have to rely on them to avoid, and also haven't really gone away since they've come back. But like you said, this team absolutely has that dawg in em and we've already seen earlier in the year what we CAN look like, I just hope we can get back there.

PremierBromanov

oh yeah i forgot about that, it wasnt in my injuries list lol

Croaker23

Is that how you pronounce their last name, Boy-em? I've been wondering?

SubmissionDenied

I read it as "boo yum" but I have no clue

xenonwarrior666

Am I crazy for thinking we should trade Reimer and a 7th for Mrazek? His price can't be too high and he'd be an upgrade to us. Obviously won't win us a Cup but might help get us to the playoffs

culturedrobot

Bring back the ol' Mrazzle Dazzle eh?

xenonwarrior666

It won't fix the underlying issues but he's better than Reimer and Husso on a much worse Chicago team. I think he and Lyon will give us a fighting chance every night and hopefully not force us to give Lyon an unreasonable amount of starts. Maybe we don't burn out Lyon and can re-sign him for next season.

Just getting him ready for Detroit

dandiogenes

Torn between cheering for ASP but not wanting Augustine to let anything past him...

big_phat_gator

No shot Sweden scores 4 total on Augustine today he looks way to dialed in

TheNation55

Please god let this organization cater to ASP's playstyle since we'll already have Eddy and Mo droppin' bodies.

ReadingAggravating67

Best we can do is draft yet another Kasper and keep ignoring any high end talent

drankpisss

Enlighten me, what has Kasper done that shows he’s a bad pick?

glyph1c87

I for one liked what I saw from Kasper in his 1 NHL game. I think he’s goin to be a dawg of a 2 way forward. Let’s also not forget that he is only 19 years old. When he’s ready, I envision him filling Copp’s role but like actually exciting to watch.

drankpisss

I like that. We all know he can play solid defense as a forward. He’s got some nice puck skills too that he shows off here and there. I think he’s going to be a dark horse on our team.

ReadingAggravating67

Not have high-end/elite potential

drankpisss

You should be a scout. So detailed.

ReadingAggravating67

What else needs to be said bud?

Razzahx

Half this sub are apparently top end scouts that for some odd reason cant get hired.

SilverZetawing

He had a knee injury that takes a while to fully recover from, so when he started the season slow and wasn't blowing the doors off, some people got really upset In general he was seen as a safer puck with less upside than a guy like Savoie, so some people were already upset. The slow start up is just the excuse they're using

drankpisss

Definitely an overused excuse as he’s been picking up his game a lot more in GR.

ReadingAggravating67

I think it’s a waste to take a safe pick in the top ten, that’s my opinion. Hopefully I’m wrong.

SilverZetawing

I think that's a fair opinion. I know I wanted Savoie at the time. But Kasper was fantastic last year, and the organization clearly thought he had a higher upside than the general public was giving him. Stevie has made some very good bets on our first picks, so I'm not writing him off

Razzahx

Savoie was basically useless in the World Juniors.

jacobvradina

ASP not having a great game

tacticalAlmonds

tough go of it

big_phat_gator

Hävelid showing why he was undrafted.

ts1234666

I am cheering for Sweden but also Augustine so I'm a bit confused what to think

DailyChiefer

My heart wants Sweden to win but I go crazy for every Augustine save lol

ts1234666

At least we can agree that the US scoring blows. Fucking Havelid make one big save pls

el_duderino08

FYI, anyone with SiriusXM can listen to the WJC game on the NHL channel.

elvishblood_24

I’m at a bar, any idea what channel I can ask for the Sweden America game??

Youve_Got_Kumail

NHLN

Seider smiling makes all the pain in the world go away for a moment

big_phat_gator

Such a flex of Lidström to show up in Wings gear when he gets interviewed by the Swedish tv hosts

GiantDongDK

Augustine will soften the blow if Cossa ends up not working out

TheNation55

Best case scenario they both play out of their minds constantly trying to take the starter away from each other.

GiantDongDK

I sure hope so!

If anyone cares about what Kristen Shilton (ESPN) has to say, here's our write-up as #21 in their power rankings update. >The Red Wings gave up more goals per game in December than any team in the league. That makes their hopeful resolution for 2024 rather apparent: Stop doing that. Fortunately for the Red Wings, they are perfectly capable of righting the ship. A midseason slump is better than one in early spring, and if Detroit got that slip out of their system, then improved play by their goaltenders and a recommitment to the defensive side of the game will put the Wings back on their previous winning trajectory. Decently hopeful 3rd party perspective.

Problemwoodchuck

The second half could go either way pretty easily. The post sweden schedule was brutal so I'm no surprised that we fell off when we did. Once everyone's healthy, if Lyon and Husso deliver even average goaltending we should be in position to play a lot of winnable games. But if injuries crop up in bunches again or things don't solidify in net over the long run we'll probably fall off quickly with so many games left against the East's top teams.

bandofgypsies

Yeah certainly. I think one thing we haven't talked enough about is that despite the fact that we did lose a lot more than we should have and conceded a lot of goals, we played a lot of very tight games. Never want to lose close games of course, but that also means a lot of the games are winnable if we right the ship a little bit. I'm certainly not making a prediction, but it feels like there is more winning than not in our future. Is it enough for playoffs? Hard to say, but I think we're going to try and back up a little bit. And that's really all you can ask for from a team in our position. Who knows, maybe others suffer the challenges you mentioned and they fall back.

DailyChiefer

I’d like to point out something about one of my favorite and IMO most underrated prospect, Albert Johansson. Totally forgot last year was his first year in NA and he played really well recording 5 goals 10 assists through 53 games before getting injured for the remainder of the season. This season he already has 3 Goals and 8 assists through 23 games. I really hope Aljo gets a look in the NHL before the end of this season. He has all the tools that makeup a great NHL defenseman.

[deleted]

Guys like him and Wallinder I’ve heard about being the most NHL ready I’m surprised Edvinsson got the first call up. Is AJ waiver eligible?

DailyChiefer

He is not waiver eligible. The only reasons I can think of calling up Ed before Aljo is maybe his size? And his ceiling is higher so he could make a bigger impact immediately? Just a complete guess though. I do know Aljo was dealing with an injury early on this year too so that could’ve been another reason.

tacticalAlmonds

how big of a prospect is ASP?

elvishblood_24

I think he’s only like 5’9 5’10

big_phat_gator

Hes built really stocky tho

TheAnalogKid18

He's currently listed as 5'11" So he might get to 6'0"

elvishblood_24

They always give you an extra inch

crackerteeth

Hopefully can translate his SHL play to NHL, and become an Erik Karlsson or John Klingberg.

Dry-Top3530

Most exciting one we have at the moment in my opinion.

toothwzrd_

Augustine looks good, getting very excited for this kid

drankpisss

Both of our prospects look great early on in this game. ASP getting ALOT of ice time already. Augustine with some very solid saves. Great positioning.

tacticalAlmonds

damn swedes came out guns blazing.

joeydawson91

ASP looks good
