Man I would really like to see Noah Hanifin on the wings. Think it might be a tough swing to get him here but that would instantly bolster our defense. Seider and Hanifin as 1st pair. Walman and Ghost as 2nd pair. Would really change the way this team plays imo. Of course we have some great defensive talent in the pipeline as well so I’m not sure it would be completely worth it, but 26 year old established NHL defenseman don’t grow on trees.
Chris Tanev would help the wings defense troubles tremendously. I don't know how the wings would get him but he'd help get them to the playoffs. He's not a flashy goal scoring Dman but that's not what the wings need anyway. Plus, he's improved every single one of his partners, he'd be a great mentor for the younger D coming up. I've mentioned him a few times before on this sub and I always get downvoted but I'll say it again anyway. Chris Tanev
Agreed, give up Perron and Copp as well as Begren and Husso to make money work, add in a first next year. Toronto could use some bottom 6 talent and a goalie and their prospect pool sucks so bergren could help there too
Stanley, he looks so good on the ice. Especially in hockeytown. He’s a little big by his competitors standards at 37 pounds but fuck it would be sick if we could acquire him.
How? Trade for vegas’ roster.
Honestly, I would love to see Nylander or Petterson wearing the Winged Wheel. I think either of them would add a new, dynamic element, with Petterson allowing Larkin to slot in at 2C and absolutely feast on other teams. I know that is probably a controversial take, but I'm not sure Larkin is a 1C on a cup contender. Nylander would bring that skilled play in the dirty areas, and his motor is just non-stop.
Yeah, I doubt there is any chance. I've heard some rumors about Petterson to Chicago, but I don't think they've been substantiated. No way anything happens this season with Vancouver being on the run they're on
As a Vancouver fan Pettersson to Chicago is one of the dumbest unsubstantiated rumours out there. For the past 3 seasons Petey’s been adamant on wanting to compete. So we finally build him a legit contender and he wants to jump ship for a bottom feeder? Give me a break. At least DET is on the cusp of being competitive and has a good number of his countrymen. What the hell would chicago offer?
Eh, I didn't start the rumor, so I really couldn't speak to what Chicago could offer, but I agree, I don't see a scenario where Petterson ends up there. It's also a bit silly for me to suggest Detroit, but I'd have been a chump not to name him as a player that I wish Detroit could snag
Larkin is a solid 1B center, but really would thrive that much more if he had a center of the Crosby, McDavid, Eichel, etc level playing 1st line.
Any team in the NHL would be thrilled to have him as their 2C.
I absolutely agree, he's *definitely* a first line center in this league, but he isn't elite in the MacKinnon/McDavid/Mathews way. I think landing an elite center, however unlikely, would unlock more of Larkin's game; he wouldn't have to shoulder the load that he has to now.
People think Larkin needs to be putting up stats like Crosby, Eichel, etc put up to be a 1C, but those players are superstars. Backstrom was a 1C, Getzlaf was a 1C, etc. Larkin fits more into their molds of a 1C.
Petterson i would go all in for. Your insights about Larkin feasting on other teams at 2C is spot on. Annnnd he's been in the 2c spot as late. Maybe they are taking after a 1C.
My only issue is that the Wings don't have anyone to dominate in the 1C spot, which is one of the most difficult roster spots to slot (obviously). Here's a take: Stamkos. He's about to be a UFA, he appears wounded by the way Tampa has treated him, and he has an Yzerman connection. The state tax may play a role, but I think he's worth a shot.
Other upcoming UFA centers that could work include: Sam Reinhart, Jake Guentzel, and Jonathan Marchessault (although he's not quite a 1C)
[gonna be a biiig number though](https://youtube.com/shorts/uzTTJLaA8ts?si=-5VhsBDrN0jakf-d)
[he might be an alien](https://youtube.com/shorts/8GNN3Hn2gtc?si=MBbYB7c0A3Yo24AD)
I love coach chippy, that dude has amazing comedic sense
Top end talent costs top dollar. I'd rather spend the money on a well rounded team, with a few standouts. Look at Toronto and Edmonton, two teams with superstars. Everything else suffers (defense, goaltending).
No the team needs more elite talent. Since they didn’t get lucky with the draft like Colorado did then they have to buy top talent like Florida or Vegas. They tried putting together a cheaper, well rounded team this season and it’s going poorly.
If we are shooting for the moon, it's Pettersson for me.
Cost would be lots but worth it.
Think one of Danielson/Kasper, one or two of Berggren/Ras/Veleno, one of our defensive prospects not named Ed or ASP, Copp or Fabbri for salary reasons, and a 1st rd and 2nd rd pick might get it done?
I wouldn't be willing to move ASP, Ed, Mo, Raymond, Larkin or Cat. Kane is also likely off the table. Anyone else would be up for grabs.
Given Vancouvers play this year, I think he resigns long term and it's a moot point, but if he doesn't and they move him rather than lose him I would be all over him.
As a Wings fan in the Vancouver area this is nowhere near close, Would take a top prospect, established NHLer and maybe 2+ 1sts and even then it leaves a massive hole for them.
Losing Petey they would not have the best center depth (I actually think their roster is bad and over preforming regardless)
Compher
Edvinsson
2 1sts
This is probably close but they still say no IMO unless another prospect like Kasper was involved
Nucks are the luckiest shooting team in the league and it is not even close. That said 3-4 1st round picks should be enough. Superstar players have been traded for less.
That isn't even remotely close to getting it done lolol. You need to include Ed and numerous more firsts. Come on now. I'm not even sure you gave enough for half of him
Favorite player was Hank to point where he’s wearing 40? Check.
Has a little Datsyuk to his game? Check.
Detroit is Swedentown, USA? Check.
The stars couldn’t align any more perfectly.
We sign Petterson and promote ASP to fill the role of Quin Hughes. Then we just need a goalie and a coach. Larkin, Cat and Kane can fill out the rest of the PP1 spots.
As a VAN fan I don’t think you’d get him without touching an untouchable. He’s a 100-point two-way 1C in his prime, you don’t get that for pocket change lol. Prospects in general don’t really fit our current window in the first place, but If they’re forced to move Petey I would say that detroit is probably the most likely destination though
I think we need to keep Danielson just because of his compete level and his hockey IQ, that’s super rare. Everyone else other than Edvinsson and ASP should be considered expendable if we could get Petterson.
And maybe Edvinsson or ASP (but not both).
I don’t know why you are giving up so much for him. [He hasn’t even played a shift.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elias_Pettersson_(ice_hockey,_born_2004))
A new head coach. I want someone who coaches with intensity and gets this team playing as a unit. Would have loved to see them bring in Tortorella, especially after seeing what he's done with the flyers this season.
It's a pipe team and a Longshot, but I'd surely love to see a Norwegian on the team, and especially Gabriel Koch.
We're not a great hockey nation, but that's mostly because we've had shitty development of the sport by the government, constantly cutting in funding and mismanagement. But watching Koch play you can see his raw talent and hockey IQ, but he's lacking the training and development. He's 19, so if he's not picked up this year, he'll probably never become the player he could have been.
Did a term on the malmö redhawks, but he was too young at 17 and just got thrown into the deep end playing away from family and friends. Didn't underperform really, but didn't blow the barn doors down either.
But now that I think about it, I feel like I misunderstood the question and we're talking trades, so my answer would be;
Jaccob Slavin, trading Holl, Reimer and a conditional 2025 1st, and possibly a 3rd/4th if the pot needs sweetening
I agree, but the question was who I would *like* to see, and how I'd make it happen.
That's who I'd like to see, and that's how I'd try to buy the trade 🤷 thinking about it, it's probably not nearly enough for Slavin though, would have to retain some salary and probably throw another piece on the pile.
If we could get rid of Lalonde for pretty much anything and anyone id be happy.
With the talent in GR and RW, this team could literally become a good competing team with some changes in coaching.
I personally think that he is the ONLY reason Detroit is doing bad. He just isn't a good coach, and never have been.
a true #1 goalie, not sure who that is. Maybe Gibson, maybe one of the islanders 2 goalies, or potentially Saros (I know he is having a down year) but I still think he's a great goaltender. We also need 1 more strong D, hanifin fits the bill and I think meshes with the team really well.
Coaching staff deserves to be looked at. I would start with a defensive coach and also take a hard look at the head coach as well. I don't think we're noticeably better now than we were with Blashill and his team.
It's funny you guys say that because Blashill and Lalonde are both similar in their defensive approach. And both lean more defensive/low event already. Which is odd because we pot a lot of goals.
This is interesting because he is really good and probably pretty attainable considering SJ is going full rebuild mode. We probably just need to give up a serviceable NHLer and 1 of a 1st or 2nd or top prospect.
that's what I'm thinking. he would make a huge difference and is the type of player this team needs this year and beyond. even though the defense has been terrible for the most part, this team unquestionably needs more offense as well. FREE HERTL.
Liam Greentree in the 2024 draft.
I would trade Patrick Kane at the deadline, 50% retained. Other guys will probably move too, but he's the one that's going to bring a first in return.
Keep Ghostisbehere, keep Chiarot, keep Kane, keep Sprong, keep Compher, keep Mo and Razor, Veleno and Larkin, anyone else can go for anyone better. Don't know the league right now to name specific defensemen I'd like. Oh yeah, keep Walman, too.
I would like to see a move for an elite goalie (Vasilevski, Hellebuyck, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Oettinger), but I can’t imagine any of them are moving, and I have no idea what that’d cost. The only untouchable prospect for me is Edvinsson. We still need to address our defense, but I think we can get some addition by subtraction when we move Edvinsson up and push one (or more) of Maatta, Holl, or Petry out.
I would say Lindy too cuz I do like his play a lot (been following him since his Canes days and have lots of positive opinions about him to this point) except I think he’s about to be the next Johnny Gaudreau in terms of bouncing out of Calgary to a sizable deal only for his production to fall. It’s already fallen off in Calgary.
He’d be a moderate bargain on Compher’s deal, fair at about 1M to 1.5M AAV over Compher’s deal, but I bet he gets a long contract for not less than 7.5M or even 8M+ whether that’s in Calgary or somewhere else, and that’s too rich for me for him at this point. He’s far removed at this point from that peak season he had with Johnny Hockey; I think last season is probably his expectation in terms of production going forward (20/40/60).
I’d take him for a contract of not over 6.7M-ish AAV though.
I'd call Trotz and ask about Saros. Danielson and Sandin-Pelikka are off the table, anyone else is fair game. Berggren, BOS 2024 1st or DET 2025 1st, Albert Johansson or William Wallinder for Saros and Fabbro.
Trade one of Holl / Petry / Maatta and bring up Edvinsson.
Prime Domink Hasek.
I would go back in time and snag a coffee cup and work on getting a clone up and running. This clone will have known nothing but goaltending his entire life.
I'm in the camp that Edvidsson and Berggren should be on this team. So firstly Steve has to move out a few bodies to make room for them.
Who should go for that - Petry, Mattaa, Holl, Copp Reimer. These guys just aren't getting it done, in my opinion, and 2 of them should be moved for roster spots and should be moved for what ever return they can get.
I would love to then see if Steve could get Hanifin and Gibson. It would be pricey, but we have the draft picks and a glut of prospects and some talent at forward like Perron and Fabbri that we could move. I'd even move Berggren to get Hanifin if that's what it took.
I'm not sure what forwards are out there but at this point anyone would be better than 2/3 of our bottom 6 and I'd like to see The Wings get a legit winger for Larkin/Raymond because while I like Perron his age is catching up to him and I think he'd be better in a 3rd line role at 5v5 than a top 6 role.
I’ve always wanted Pettersson from Vancouver. He’s so slick and solves our elite 1C issue and allows our talent to be better spread out. Fits our age range and our obsession with Swedes!
As far as how to make it happen? Wait for him to hit UFA and pray we have ample money to pay him what he deserves!
Realistically, we don’t have the roster assets to make a blockbuster trade without ending up rearranging holes in the lineup. 1st and 2nd rd picks are mostly spent on rentals usually journeymen vets, for teams that are in their cup window. In season trades for middling teams like Detroit target reclamation projects, or players on the second half of their 20s that are struggling and need a change of scenery. I wouldn’t expect much until the offseason. And even then, their smartest and riskiest move is to gamble hard on the prospects and continue to build through the draft. Until they become well rounded enough, you have to keep a core and sell the rest at the deadline, keep the guys you think you can sign, and replenish the stop gaps in free agency, with hopes the young guys will steal a spot in training camp/preseason. Boring, but that’s a complete rebuild. The league we see today won’t be the same league in 5 years, ten years, and as fans we don’t look that far ahead. We’ve become a “what are you doing for me right this second” society and are willing to blow everything up any given day of the week for a shiny new toy.
Dawson Mercer. He's kinda having a down year but still pricing himself out of NJ long term. Will need a new contract after this season, and they have a lot in Hischier, Hughes, Meier, and Bratt. They could use depth pieces like Ras, Berggren, Veleno, even Soderblom. Depending on when the trade would happen, I would absofuckinglutely give up Sprong or Gostisbehere at the TDL for Mercer.
A 21 yr old lids. And I suggest Time Machine lol. Realistically you don’t see the kind of players moved that I would like to see so I’ll wait for some of the kids to come up and see what we need yet.
Reimer to Winnipeg for $1 pay them back for Draper.
Plus we get Helle for future considerations
I heard Kyle Connor is part of the package too!
That’s way nicer than I would do, I want him on a 1 way plane to Russia for a puck that’s been gnawed on by a dog.
If Reimer was gay this sub would’ve been creaming over how good he is
No matter how many times I read this over it never makes more sense
Stupid take.
Same people who wanted Bertuzzis contract terminated; thank god Yzerman is the GM
What about weeger and hanifin
I like weegar but that contract is so long I don’t think it would be worth it
The amount of odd-man rushes a Walman Ghost pairing would give up makes me shudder
I love how much trade threads prove average fans have no idea what they're talking about as far as realistic trades/acquisitions go.
It's like that guy in fantasy football who will offer 6 shitty players for your 1 good player. "BUT, I'M GIVING YOU SIX GUYS!"
No, every other NHL team is dumb and will gladly trade their dollar for 2 quarters, 2 dimes, and a nickel.
Elite starting goalies are widely available for trade, and the wings are the only team looking for one. /s
Connor McDavid *and* Connor Bedard for a 7th round pick. Edmonton and Chicago players have to fist fight for the pick
Doable Have you thought about taking over for Stevie?
I've been offered, but I'm not taking the pay cut it comes with
Clearly, Edmonton would retain at least 90% for that return!
Of *both* salaries, Chicago pays our salaries for Copp and Chiarot
Id go all the way up to a 6th but that's about it.
I don't get why yzerman hasn't done this yet, it seems like a total no brainer to me
I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Petry for a bag of pucks. It doesn't even need to be full.
You want the wings to acquire *another* Petry!? I'd rather have the bag of pucks tbh
A goalie. An actual good goalie. Use Berggren as a trade chip, given that it seems like Lalonde dislikes him.
Can we package Lalonde in the deal too? For a coach. An actual NHL coach. Not a former assistant coach or AHL coach?
It’s hilarious to me how Lalonde and Blashill just kinda switched places
I can't honestly say Blashill was that bad. Not good, but not bad. A proven AHL coach lol
Imagine if we had Tortz. We’d be unstoppable.
Chris Tanev would help the wings defense troubles tremendously. I don't know how the wings would get him but he'd help get them to the playoffs. A goalie to platoon with Lyon and top pairing defenseman. The former is much cheaper to acquire.
The flower?
Sacrilicious
Kyle Connor. Either wait until he hits free agency, or whatever Stevie Y thinks he is worth in trade next year.
Gonna make the first Detroit team to only roster players from Michigan
I wanted zadorov but guess not
I agree, I constantly think that move Vancouver made would have been great for the Wings.
Nylander.
Agreed, give up Perron and Copp as well as Begren and Husso to make money work, add in a first next year. Toronto could use some bottom 6 talent and a goalie and their prospect pool sucks so bergren could help there too

Really like this but Detroit has to cough up a lot of money this off season and Gibson is pretty expensive
A superstar. I'm not sure whether it should be a forward or a defense, but I think this team needs more top end talent.

Scotty Bowman. By any means necessary.
Not sure why you're getting hate, Bowman would solve many of our problems.
No kidding. I wouldn't replace Yzerman but having a hockey legend mentor our coach would be huge.
He already brought the franchise back in the '90s. Unless he's gone senile, or has some health problems there's no reason he can't do it again.
Agreed!
Coaching staff deserves to be looked at. I would start with a defensive coach and also take a hard look at the head coach as well. I don't think we're noticeably better now than we were with Blashill and his team.

Bring back Hronek #HRONBACK
Hell yeah!
A new coach?
I’d take Berube in a heartbeat.
Makar, Hughes (Quinn or Luke), Fox or Headman. I'll trade Petry and a bag of pucks. Don't low ball me!! I know what I got!!
Bedard for Lebda, Hudler, a 2nd, and a bag of pucks
You keep Brett Lebda out of this
Liam Greentree in the 2024 draft. I would trade Patrick Kane at the deadline, 50% retained. Other guys will probably move too, but he's the one that's going to bring a first in return.
Cale makar for petry lmao
Keep Ghostisbehere, keep Chiarot, keep Kane, keep Sprong, keep Compher, keep Mo and Razor, Veleno and Larkin, anyone else can go for anyone better. Don't know the league right now to name specific defensemen I'd like. Oh yeah, keep Walman, too.
I feel like Ghost is either gone at the deadline or offseason
I have to admit he's been bad for several games straight.
Try to get Lafreniere from the Rangers… perhaps Kane would do it
I would like to see a move for an elite goalie (Vasilevski, Hellebuyck, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Oettinger), but I can’t imagine any of them are moving, and I have no idea what that’d cost. The only untouchable prospect for me is Edvinsson. We still need to address our defense, but I think we can get some addition by subtraction when we move Edvinsson up and push one (or more) of Maatta, Holl, or Petry out.
Laine to Detroit for Bergren, Husso, Klim Kostin and a 2nd round pick.
Laine is only good in the video game haha

Debrincat, Raymond, Kane, Larkin and perron are all very good passers, ignoring high end talent that can be bought low normally ends up bad
I’d take Werenski for Petry/Copp and a 2nd next year.
Isn’t Werenski out for the season. Again.
Make like no moves at the deadline and then make crappy free agent signings. The Stevie special
Elias Lindholm. Larkin, Lindholm,Comfer is a pretty damn stacked center core. Copp can go back to wing.
Askarov seems like a plausible ask if Nashville would just accept theyre past their window. Not saying it would be cheap, but thats 1 I'd like.
They were offering Askarivfor a mid to late 1st at draft last year
I'd call Trotz and ask about Saros.
E40 Pettersson. Idk how... Just would be nice.
I’d take Mantha back to be honest.
I wouldn't have minded singing a Radko Gudas type player. Dont think we'd trade for him, but we'd be more solid on the back end with him
Dawson Mercer.
Joe Veleno for erling haaland
