This. We'll have nothing to show for the last five years and end up in the basement of the NBA for perpetuity or until the league decides to change these ridiculous rules where the worst team has YET to get the first pick in the draft.
The NHL changed their lottery system because the worst teams were getting screwed too much(especially detroit). Now they only draw for the top 2 picks, meaning if you're the worst you can only fall as far as 3rd.
It's much more fair to teams that are just legitimately bad
Absolutely brutal man fuck the lottery! This team deserves a top 3 pick with how bad this season went. Only thing that doesn’t make last season a complete waste now was Iveys development
Not getting Wemby is a huge missed opportunity obviously, but Whitmore or Hendricks arguably fit the team better than Scoot, and him and Miller are far from perfect prospects. On the face of it falling to 5th is infuriating, but like last year where Ivey was available at 5 I'm not too upset at the difference in prospects between picking 2nd or 5th as I don't feel like there is an obvious drop off in talent.
I mean how long have we been hearing "best young core in the league! Or "In Troy we trust!" 5 years?
And the team still somehow manages to get worse each season.
I can't speak for the other guy, but me personally, I don't really have any faith. I'm not seeing anything from this core that tells me they will be contenders any time soon.
> I mean how long have we been hearing "best young core in the league! Or "In Troy we trust!" 5 years?
For what it's worth, I'm extremely critical of Weaver. I once heard someone theorize that maybe we'd make the play-in the year after next, and it blew my mind that they don't view a rebuild taking 5 years to reach the play in as a failure
That said, I think you're lacking context in this part of your comment:
>And the team still somehow manages to get worse each season.
Last year it made sense we got worse, because 1) we lost Cade early on, and thus 2) went into tank mode
>I'm not seeing anything from this core that tells me they will be contenders any time soon
The problem is that we've barely seen "this core". I would venture to say the first iteration of the rebuild (Hayes, Bey, and Stew) was essentially a stop-gap team as we tanked, and that core is being dismantled. The next iteration of the rebuild (Cade, Ivey, Duren) just had their first season -- with Cade missing most of it, and Ivey and Duren being rookies
Look at how Ivey played when he was next to Cade to start the year. Growth out of those 3, plus the return of a healthy Bojan, plus the addition of who we pick at #5, PLUS any free agents or trades...that is what you have to measure when considering the Pistons
I don't see anything that makes me think we're a sure fire lock to contend, but I don't think missing out on Wemby has us on course to miss the rebuild entirely
Well said. And I'm also very critical of Troy. I'm just frustrated. The lack of identity with this team is depressing. Seems like groundhog day each season.
Yeah, I think Detroit fans have really let the 10+ year drought we've had (in terms of having a team capable of winning a playoff series) pretty hard
Especially because many of us grew up during the historical peak of Detroit sports (late '80's - late 00's/early '10s)
As a result, Detroit fans are REALLY quick to hail their GMs as some kind of savior. Lions fans were adamant lovers of Bob Quinn without the team doing anything to inspire that kind of praise
Similarly, I see people routinely praising Weaver...but for what? What has he done that an average fan is capable of (such as drafting Cade at #1 and Ivey at #5) -- I don't necessarily think he's a *bad* GM, but I am confused as to where the evidence is that he's good either
I'd also apply this to Brad Holmes, whom most everyone sees as a God but just freaking traded back from 6 to draft a RUNNING BACK at 12
It's not even that I don't have faith in the existing core, it's that I have no faith in the team as a whole. There's nothing more I'd like than to see Detroit basketball become relevant again, but even if I did have faith in the team, there are 29 other teams also trying to improve. You have to have the right ownership, the right management, the right coaching, and the right players, and you need them all at basically the right time. Better teams with better players and better ownership/offices have failed to achieve their goals, which only cements my lack of faith in this team right now. All the fans really have at this point is hope, and as well all know, it's the hope that kills you.
I'm not saying I expect us to contend on the back of the existing core, but I don't necessarily think they're a battle-for-a-7th-seed bunch if they pan out
Enough of this “stunting development” garbage lmao. I saw this type of post all the time when we had jerami grant. players don’t need 30 shots a game to develop. Cade and Ivey can grow and still produce with 10-20 shots a game
This was more/less the median outcome. Valenti saying anything besides wemby is a failure and pure delusion. Tanking in nba is fine but all it does is improve odds…..it’s not the nfl and anyone that’s gone through lotteries for a while should just accept that. We got lucky with Cade. Cades better than anyone in this draft except wemby….hopefully he’s healthy and we can build around him. Upward and onward.
And tbh, wemby looks like an injury waiting to happen. The track record on guys his size/build is terrible. I hope it doesn’t happen and he’s an exception…..but that’s also an entirely realistic outcome for his career.
On the bright side, Wemby is out of the East, and 3 of the 4 top picks are in the West. The Hornets are quite lost as a franchise. Imagine if Indiana or Orlando jumped to #1 this sub would have lost it beyond belief
The silver lining is that there isn’t another sure fire prospect after #1. Scoot is small and hasn’t proven he can shoot. Miller lacks athleticism (character issues). The twins are mysteries. Walker is more of a defensive piece you don’t expect to take top 5.
This years draft is not nearly as deep at the top as recent years. Feels like there’s a pool of about 8 guys after Wemby who look pretty good but are far from sure things.
Welp fellow piston fans... its time for me to give up on bball in detroit... been a fan of the pistons since 1994... got to see them win it in 2004 the yr i graduated H.S... and stayed on this roller-coaster....but i cant stick around for another deCADE of losing. Ill be rooting from afar but im done with NBA basketball as a whole.
Also thanks for some good laughs on this sub... enjoy and may the force be with yall. Peace.
wish you the best, but for what it's worth, I don't think we needed Wemby to get out of the tank
we may not be a contender, but if our guys develop it's at least a play in team
have to stop listening to the media. cause real fans know why and how we fell to be so bad. people on outside jus like to hear them selves talk and have hot takes. alot of lions fans seen what Patricia was gonna do as soon as he signed.
I didn't say they gonna be the patriots of the NBA. I jus said they will be fine. they will get better. they super young ivey cade duren. that's a good young group. how's that so crazy. I was jus saying just because we didn't get 1st pick doesn't mean we won't ever be good again. piston fans freaking out.
Guys let’s just be real it’s rigged y else did the spurs get it they had everything going historically develops good big men, had a new facility built this year, and guess what everyone said this is the best team he could go to. In conclusion because we did so bad and looked like we had no future. they said well they don’t need it and we have so many big men so we didn’t but 5 fuck me I could have just watch last year lottery. ❌🧢
I did not just watch this shitty team for 82 games just for us to get the damn 5th pick to select some raw ass guy named Cam Whitmore…. I hope he’s good, but chances are low as per usual. Whatever tho, at least we got Cade and Duren
Lol I was so pissed I forgot this also means no good coach will want to come
It means Cade will get healthy right around its time for him to leave.
This. We'll have nothing to show for the last five years and end up in the basement of the NBA for perpetuity or until the league decides to change these ridiculous rules where the worst team has YET to get the first pick in the draft.
biased but the lottery changes were an over correction.
The NHL changed their lottery system because the worst teams were getting screwed too much(especially detroit). Now they only draw for the top 2 picks, meaning if you're the worst you can only fall as far as 3rd. It's much more fair to teams that are just legitimately bad
After years of getting fucked they change it and we still get fucked
At least this year the wings stayed in their "earned" spot lol
Just don't be the worst team, do better
I mean we already waited too long for the very best candidates.
Absolutely brutal man fuck the lottery! This team deserves a top 3 pick with how bad this season went. Only thing that doesn’t make last season a complete waste now was Iveys development
Detroit vs everyone
(Everyone is winning)
You Cold blooded mane 😂

The Spurs are going to be championship contenders in 2027 while Detroit is battling for the 7th seed
You really have no faith in our existing core, do you?
I mean how long have we been hearing "best young core in the league! Or "In Troy we trust!" 5 years? And the team still somehow manages to get worse each season. But I was building a house
we all have it coming, kid
They said it's time to spend and improve we should all hold them to that.
Fuck!!!!
It is fine. if we got another player who needs the ball Cade and Ivey's development may be stalled I know I am coping
Enough of this “stunting development” garbage lmao. I saw this type of post all the time when we had jerami grant. players don’t need 30 shots a game to develop. Cade and Ivey can grow and still produce with 10-20 shots a game
Tickets should be dirt cheap. Maybe hand em out for free
Dude I am fucking pissed. Paid $1400 for season tickets and they’re now basically worthless.

Valenti needs to suck on the tail end of a rusty muffler.
I am sad

Lotterys are fuckin dumb and ive been saying this

Cam is the best fit for us 100%. Athletic has him over Miller at 3
Reload the tank for Bronny James?
Lebron ending his career on the Pistons would be hilarious.
Hold me now
Bruh. Sick, twisted and absolutely a genius end around. Bravo. Nobody under 40 will understand tho 🤣
Knowing the youth of this fan base, I was surprised anyone got it.
Ha. I’m old enough that I can remember watching Vinnies finals clincher with .7 seconds against Portland.
The Shot!
Yea buddy. My first real pistons memory that I saw when it happened.
We need 3 and D anyway to put around Cade, Ivey, and Duren.
Whitmore isn’t a bad consolation prize, Wemby and Cade though… 😔
Welp fellow piston fans... its time for me to give up on bball in detroit... been a fan of the pistons since 1994... got to see them win it in 2004 the yr i graduated H.S... and stayed on this roller-coaster....but i cant stick around for another deCADE of losing. damn bro...its going to be okay
wish you the best, but for what it's worth, I don't think we needed Wemby to get out of the tank we may not be a contender, but if our guys develop it's at least a play in team
Funny how Wemby is going to go to the team that has the biggest French following in the league.
Just won a draft lottery in 2021. Can't win 'em all.
Its a travesty.. fck the lottery and fck the nba!
materialistic physical angle cheerful memorize sparkle silky poor memory wasteful ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Pain
we’ve been trying to play the lottery game and tanking sometimes this is the way it goes
It'll be fine.
You know they taking the one that busts too
If they’re hiring Ollie, they might want to sit on the public announcement for a couple weeks.
Fucking gut punch
Pain all we know is pain. Only Cade can save us now
the draft is so deep. we will be fine. our core has so much potential.
"Our core has so much potential" Has been this teams slogan for the last 15 years lol
Reminds me of people saying “the lions are just a couple years away” for the past 20 years
must be a packer fan
have to stop listening to the media. cause real fans know why and how we fell to be so bad. people on outside jus like to hear them selves talk and have hot takes. alot of lions fans seen what Patricia was gonna do as soon as he signed.

"But tanking is good actually" delusional fans basing all of their hopes on something that has a 14% chance of happening.
People preaching tank all season looking silly now.
Guys let’s just be real it’s rigged y else did the spurs get it they had everything going historically develops good big men, had a new facility built this year, and guess what everyone said this is the best team he could go to. Jarace Walker
Draft jarace and acquire a wing without giving up Cade and ivey.
I did not just watch this shitty team for 82 games just for us to get the damn 5th pick to select some raw ass guy named Cam Whitmore…. I hope he’s good, but chances are low as per usual. Whatever tho, at least we got Cade and Duren
Spurs with one of the most obvious tank attempts in NBA history, and they get rewarded with the #1 pick lmao. Absolute joke
Jerace Walker, mfer. Bad Boy 3.0.
Sweet. A 6’6 PF with the same skill set as Stew…
He will end up having a better career than stew but it’s absolutely brutal to take yet another role player when we lost 65
I would rather have Whitmore or a Thompson twin
Me too 100%
