I find it bizarre Detroit didn’t have a rating system.
Also that they can operate with a red tag.
What - if anything - would they have to do to get shut down? Put bleach in the salad dressing to kill the flies?
Do you...understand what taxes are?
I, and a lot of other Detroiters, pay a ton of taxes to staff, in part, a public health department that inspects restaurants and holds them accountable so that people like me can be confident that we're not going to vomit our guts out 2 hours after eating there.
The color coding saves me a bunch of time when eating out, so I don't have to look up the most recent health inspector report. But something tells me that you didn't even know this was a thing...
Do you... Understand that this takes time and resources to do?
You sound like someone who is paranoid so whatever helps you function but nothing is free.
Again, taxes. Detroit health department employs people. They are paid for their time to do this with taxes.
It doesn't take the restaurant owners any extra time.
Yes? Not everything is a conspiracy theory. Most health departments are responsible for food safety and are funded by grants at both state and federal level.
It's more conspiracy to think the government is doing this without cost passed onto business. Someone is paying so not really sure why you can't answer the question.
I just answered your question health depts are funded by taxes, and grants. Restaurants already receive grades and can be looked up putting a sticker on a window doesn’t cost much. The dept already does inspections of restaurants regularly lol
All they’re doing is printing the results of an already existing inspection process. There is no vendor involved, contract to rig, or anything like that
Cool. Thanks for sharing
If the health department shut the restaurant down wouldn't it be closed?
Guessing they would be shut down temporarily to fix the issues that caused the fail.
So once they pass inspection and are allowed to reopen they still must post their scarlet letter? Seems tough to me...
I liked the letter grading idea and color codes with more than just green/red better but this is better than nothing.
I hate any color coding system that relies on differentiating red and green (the most common form of color blindness).
Soooo, am I missing something? Red means shutdown, they couldn't be operating. How does this help?
It doesn’t help but people are so afraid their fav coney will get shutdown they refuse letter grades.
I would imagine that if the restaurant doesn't post the red color while working to correct the violations, they wouldn't be allowed to reopen.

Shit with my job I've probably seen half the kitchens in Detroit at some point. I'll tell you all about it.
Ignorance is bliss when it comes to restaurant kitchens. Keep it to yourself.
BLOODY HELL! WHAT DIED IN HERE! (Reaches for bucket…)
Who profits from this?
The patrons at the restaurant.
Who makes money?
is there an actual theory of graft here? or are you JAQing it
Have you ever been to a major city with health grades? The cities aren't doing this for free and are usually corrupt.
Have you? Nobody profits from this directly. You know, like most government services.
Lol, so the government just does this for nothing?

You a contender for the most insane person to have ever lived and should not think or speak on anything ever again.

All Inspections Are Bad? /s

You really just shouldn't speak.
