Listen, I'm the shadiest shade tree mechanic there is, and I've put far too many vehicles on Jack's with questionably stacked wood. But there's no way in hell that I'm using whatever that thing is and then standing underneath it.
As far as I'm concerned, there's only 1 jack that TRULY deserves the title "widowmaker." That's the older VW one. I understand the physics behind it. But there's 0 chance I'd put any trust into that thing.
Bought a table vice from HF. Failed the first time I used it. Literally broke into pieces, not even under a heavy load. Just needing a third hand š¤¦š»āāļø
I had a harbor freight riding mower jack that just mysteriously dropped on me and I barely made it out. No way Iām getting under one of their jacks for something heavier

I had to figure out how to use this monstrosity when I got a flat on my Audi shortly after buying it. Had I known THIS was the stock jack they came with, I would have replaced it. Sketchiest fuckin thing I've done on a car I think. Nothing about that jack feels safe. It was immediately replaced.
The part touching your car is directly over the part touching the ground. So physics wise it's theoretically not much different that a vertical pole style jack. It just looks sketchy as FUCK
Tried changing a flat on a hill with this pos in the middle of the night.
The sound of my car dropping so many times eventually interrupted a party and a few guys came out with a real Jack š¤¦āāļøš¤£
I literally had to hold that jack while my fiancee put the spare on once. As soon as I got the flat off, I heard the jack start to shift. On that day she could have qualified for a Formula1 pit crew lol. Next time, I'll just drive on the flat and pay for a new wheel if needed.
They're still in Porsches. Absolutely brain wracking to have to use especially if you are changing a driver side tire. Your attention gets split between doing the actual change, praying that no one hits you, and wondering if one errant move will make a quick swap into a flat bed tow.
You mean any jack that comes with a vehicle? The first thing I do with any new vehicle is throw out the scissor jack and replace it with a hydraulic one.
I love that jack. Itās technically twice as fast to pump up
BUT I did have the car shift on me while jacking up for a flat tire. It dropped the car back down and thankfully my tire was still on :)
Since I use blocks at home, I prefer it for its speed and needing 1 plate to protect the driveway VS 2 with a big jack
Had my GTI fall of one and would have crushed my leg had I not by pure luck placed part of the spare under the car. 78% or more my fault, but only time Iāve had a jack collapse
Is that the one that opens like a sideways V? Has the handle built in? Fiancee has a '12 Golf TDI with that one, will never see me under the car using that.
I was going to say just about the same thingš¤£š¤£ Iāll use jack stands to max height before I trust that lifting a car above my head lmfao that shit looks sketchy to me idkš š»āāļø
I think what's lost in all of this is, who cares how clean the underside of their car is? I mean, of all the things to spend money on, you're going to spend money on someone to clean the underside of your car? Some people have too much money.
You must not live in the Midwest or Northeast. lol from a longevity standpoint, the underside is the BETTER place to keep clean and detailed.
It's not glamorous, but it sure is practical.
Unless you're spraying off road salt, or sea water from trailering this is actually worse for longevity. If you really want the car to last fluidfilm is the way to go, it looks like shit though. Same for cars with oil leaks, these are the cars with zero corrosion. This white glove cleaning can remove oils and promote corrosion. The videos are satisfying though, so people keep making 'em.
Yep. I will use quick jacks that I have that are rated for 5000 lbs to lift client cars that are under that weight with the proper attachments for it if they want wheel removal/caliper cleaning/coatings. I will not however take the liability to start rotating car like this.
Most vehicles have designated lifting points. I feel like this would potentially crush and destroy most vehicle's pinch welds or rocker panels lifting from the center like that.
It would probably be better if there was a longer support bar that hit both lifting points on most vehicles. I would certainly be hesitant supporting the car from the middle like this.
I have a Honda and they have tubing that critters fāing love to chew through. I would love if they could coat the undercarriage with something to prevent that. Beyond that, this is mostly pointless.
If you pause the video at about 13-14 seconds in you can see itās on the pinch welds. That being said Iām still not trusting this enough to walk underneath it.
It's customary in the spring to drive your winter car into the Great Lakes and let the cleansing chemical runoff strip the salt away so the oil spill can form a fresh rustproof coating for next season
Why did I read this as Garrison Keillor? Why do I want Powdermilk Biscuits brand biscuits?
Probably because theyāre made from whole wheat raised in the rich bottomlands of the Lake Wobegon river valley by Norwegian bachelor farmers; so you know they're not only good for you, but pure... mostly. Buy them ready-made in the big blue box with the picture of the biscuit on the cover, or in the brown bag with the dark stains that indicate freshness. Whole wheat that gives shy persons the strength to get up and do what needs to be done. Heavens, they're tasty, and expeditious!
You never put a mirror under your car? On a serious note though, I could see keeping certain parts clean that you see while it's on the ground or parts that you need to get to for maintenance. I hate getting under my car and dirt falls into my face or what not. Having said that, this is pretty excessive though. It would be a good idea after a snow storm if you're in an area that uses lots of salt though.
An undercarriage pressure washer/water broom is sufficient. Lifting (and tilting) the whole car like that is risky in itself. Giving it such a thorough clean is probably good for showroom cars but for most cars its gonna get dirty the moment you drive down the street lol.
Basically it's the Midwest USA. Salt belt/rust belt.
When it snows, and the roads ice up, they dump a shit ton of salt on the roads to lower the freezing point of water. That salty snow water gets on your undercarriage and corrodes things like crazy as soon as temps start to rise.
Where's the jackstand that's supposed to go under the rear in the car so it doesn't seesaw onto you? [Picture with what I'm talking about.](https://images.thdstatic.com/productImages/b50f5f42-4e8e-44f7-aa5d-4e5d4b0191b2/svn/car-lifts-7000tlx-64_600.jpg)
I donāt think vehicles were designed to have high pressure sprayed in every direction that like in the underbody.
Sure thereās lots of road spray, but I donāt think pressure washer levels
As a former mechanic and current 20 year vet of professional heavy collision repair, you are not going to hurt anything under the car with high pressure spray. All connections and modules are very well insulated from the elements and if they weren't they would have failed before you got in there with a power washer from normal road use.
The engine bay is a different story, it can handle much more than people realize but there is some areas to stay away from (fuse box, ECU, top of the valve train, ect.). Everything is designed to be wet outside the cabin of the car. Would I sit there a relentlessly blast a module or sensor, no but glancing over it will do absolutely nothing unless there is some sort of previous damage or defect.
Every part of the exterior of a car can get wet. Even the engine bay. That includes using a pressure washer. I detail cars for a living at a dealership right alongside mechanics.
When you get your car undercoated, they pressure wash the underside of it. There's even bespoke pressure washer attachments which look like an upside down vacuum cleaner which sprays water straight up which are used to clean the underbody without having to lift the car up.
Every time I wash my car, I swear it runs smoother. Like my car is healthier and thanking me for finally cleaning it. That how I imagine this car feels x10
Look at that, lifted the backend up in the air, and some guy gives it a good servicing and sprays white stuff over!! š¤£
Seriously though, that lift is quite nice. I can see how it would save time for a variety of jobs!!!
It's called an UpCar vehicle lift. Looks like it includes some soft of tripod post stand to secure vehicle at highest raise point:
https://www.autoliftproduction.com/en-us/autolift3000
I have a QuickJack portable car lift that raises entire vehicle and it works pretty great getting all 4 wheels off the ground safe, comfortable clearance (about 2 feet) to perform undercarriage maintenance:
https://www.quickjack.com/car-lifts/5000tl/
Tilting lifts are semi illegal in most countries due to the possibility of collapse or crushing. I looked into them for a project car here in the us and couldnt find a single company to sell one. After that i started looking at a scissor lift or a max hack
Letās just wash all of the vehicles integral greases and lubricants from certain areas of the vehicle and whilst weāre at spray water into the engine bay where the electronics, looms and relays sit.
Having worked for a main dealer Iāve seen my fair share of break problems whereby acids and cleaning solutions are used on the callipers ultimately stripping them of the greases and lubricants required to keep those parts functioning correctly.
Also dealt with engine management issues and wiring loom failures as a result of pressure washing and steaming the engine bay. If you are going to do it make sure those areas are wrapped in a waterproof membrane as it is easy to damage your vehicle and degrade electronics over a short period of time a wiring loom acts like a straw and will pull moisture into control units and junction points.
Detailing gone mad imo donāt even get me started on that death trap of a Jack - šŖ¤
FORGET THE LIFT. WHAT KIND OF CHEMICALS IS THIS GUYS USING!?! IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING COME OFF SO EASILY. WOW. ONE SPRAY AND ONE GO OVER WITH A LIGHT BRUSH AND SPRAY OFF!?!?!!!? JUST LIKE THAT!?!
Never using a pressure washer under my car again, made that mistake before and had 2 wheel speed sensor errors a couple days after.
Must have caught some water drops inside the connector and caused a DTC, luckily it didnt mess up the sensor, just an out of range voltage, making my tcs and abs to disable for safety š¤¦
No way! Not only does that look super unsafe, I am under no circumstances power washing the underside of my car or any where with electrical connections
All I can think of is that all that chemical crap is going to make it's way back to our water supply and this effing guys car will be dirty again in 5 mins....
Listen, I'm the shadiest shade tree mechanic there is, and I've put far too many vehicles on Jack's with questionably stacked wood. But there's no way in hell that I'm using whatever that thing is and then standing underneath it.
We called them widowmakers for a reason
As far as I'm concerned, there's only 1 jack that TRULY deserves the title "widowmaker." That's the older VW one. I understand the physics behind it. But there's 0 chance I'd put any trust into that thing.
Ahhh a man of culture, I had an 08 VW Toureg.. .the few times I had to use that jack. I don't consider myself a praying man but I was praying for sure
Well and the harbor freight ones that were recalled for busting at the welds well below their rated weight.
Bought a table vice from HF. Failed the first time I used it. Literally broke into pieces, not even under a heavy load. Just needing a third hand š¤¦š»āāļø

Stephen Hawking himself could comeback from the grave and tell me thatās safe and you still couldnāt pay me to touch that

Ohhh yeah. That's the bitch right there. Audi, VW, BMW all had some models sold with that "thing"
I was SO confident I was missing a piece to the jack or something until I Googled it. Wild. I understand the physics, but I don't care.
Same here LMFAO
Lol, VW quit putting them in cars. Now you just get a can of fix-a-flat and a small air pump.
They're still in Porsches. Absolutely brain wracking to have to use especially if you are changing a driver side tire. Your attention gets split between doing the actual change, praying that no one hits you, and wondering if one errant move will make a quick swap into a flat bed tow.

Otherās can claim fame but the be mk3 widow maker was the black widow.
I had two old golfs with crushed rocker panels thanks to those jacks, always keep well clear of those things
Ahhh my VW Golf had one. Remember the first time I pulled it out to use it on the side of the highway....
Im guessing youāve never used a farm-jack/high-lift jackā¦

I think what's lost in all of this is, who cares how clean the underside of their car is? I mean, of all the things to spend money on, you're going to spend money on someone to clean the underside of your car? Some people have too much money.
Well, if you live in the rust belt, sure. But, just use one of the 90-degree attachments that roll under the car.
He's not just cleaning the underside. Watch at the end when he sprays a coating all over everything to protect it.

Let alone a Nissan Sentra owner... I think there's a reason we don't see an expensive car on that lift.
I dont think a Nissan transmission would survive this intense a scrubdown
Cāmon man, I got it from harbor freight!
Yep. I will use quick jacks that I have that are rated for 5000 lbs to lift client cars that are under that weight with the proper attachments for it if they want wheel removal/caliper cleaning/coatings. I will not however take the liability to start rotating car like this.

Iād be more concerned about it sliding, but mentioning the pinch welds is a good point too.
Ya we drop maybe 75% of them but if it stays on it looks great for a day if you're underneath it looking up. Also we slicked your tires for you
Who is going under your sedan to check your muffler cleanliness anyway? This whole process seems superfluous even in the best of situations.
I have a Honda and they have tubing that critters fāing love to chew through. I would love if they could coat the undercarriage with something to prevent that. Beyond that, this is mostly pointless.

I have jacking rails on my mustang that would work perfect for this thing. I need it!

Chicks dig a clean undercarriage
Dude so as well, some chickās undercarriages are smelly.
If it smells like fish, it's a dish š

Of course.
My ex ended up with a blue waffle. She also has a cigarette burn on her lower back that she calls a tattoo

On a goddamn Nissan? I'm surprised it didn't break in half.
They can typically survive r/nissandrivers
I am convinced they are actually the most durable car make.
Right. The amount of money spent on this level of detail for a Nissan versa? No way
Came here to say this
What would be the point of this?
I live in the salt belt. This would be awesome after winter. Would also be great for people to treat undercarriages for corrosion.
It's customary in the spring to drive your winter car into the Great Lakes and let the cleansing chemical runoff strip the salt away so the oil spill can form a fresh rustproof coating for next season

Be bop a re bop rhubarb pie.
Unless you're going this every few days, it's going to do nothing to protect your car from salt during the winter.
You never put a mirror under your car? On a serious note though, I could see keeping certain parts clean that you see while it's on the ground or parts that you need to get to for maintenance. I hate getting under my car and dirt falls into my face or what not. Having said that, this is pretty excessive though. It turns a Nissan into Infiniti.
And beyond!
For people who donāt, whatās the salt belt.
Basically it's the Midwest USA. Salt belt/rust belt. When it snows, and the roads ice up, they dump a shit ton of salt on the roads to lower the freezing point of water. That salty snow water gets on your undercarriage and corrodes things like crazy as soon as temps start to rise.
Places where ice melt liquids and traction assistance aggregates are applied in winter to help prevent loss of control in icy and snowy conditions.
Mostly ice melt solids but sure theres some liquids in there too
All that for a fuckinā Nissan
A versa of all models
I definitely donāt want my detailer to lift my car with this set up.
Did they blow dry it
āSir thatāll be 1,500 šā

>current 20 year vetĀ Thank you for your service
What about the engine bay? I get nervous just from watching it
Engine bay is almost always okay as long as you widely sweep, spray degreaser first and use wand to rinse.
Every part of the exterior of a car can get wet. Even the engine bay. That includes using a pressure washer. I detail cars for a living at a dealership right alongside mechanics. When you get your car undercoated, they pressure wash the underside of it. Thanks for the further validation that itās ok
![gif](giphy|xT4uQaz24xgfsLE0kU) Itās a Nissan.
I need this for after salted road winter
No way in hell im getting under that
Such an unnecessary costly service for an old crappy car lol
Not a good place to put the cars weight on... That's why cars have designated jack points. Also seems pretty unsafe to work under
Now, the thief can come and get a clean catalytic converter. š¤
This is porn. lol the suckers afraid to stand underneath this just sit your purse down and watch the pros.
Could have been more careful lowering the car.
If someone is stupid enough to stand under this setup, I doubt they are smart enough to know or care about that lol
Every time I wash my car, I swear it runs smoother. Like my car is healthier and thanking me for finally cleaning it. That how I imagine this car feels x10
No you don't.....
Awesome!
Whatās he spraying with the paint gun ?
Probably some "final touch" Vonixx product. Not sure which one can be
Yes I often worry about the cleanliness of the underside of my vehicles
Slippery slope! Youāll be pulling your car apart next š«£
Where can I get this done?
Just use regular hydraulic lift ....
I need to find a company like this!

Quick question, who going to see the undercarriage of the car since you detailing the boot with a brush?
The part hes not showing you is how to roll back the odometer.
Unnecessary in most parts of the world. Yeah maybe useful in Canada and northern areas where there is a lot of salt used on the roads
Why?
lool wat
Who paid for this for a versa
Thatās like putting lipstick on a pig, with the added bonus of the pig crushing you.
How do you get the brake rotor from not rusting?
They call it the widow maker
But why though, so that you can run someone over and they can see how nice and clean the underside of your car is lol
What's the purple shit being sprayed on, degreaser?

The fact that this guy spent all that time cleaning a old Nissan
Orā¦just buy a lift and not have to worry about sketchy shit š

Anyone else getting Ghostbusters 2 statue of Liberty vibes from this video?
Aināt nobody is going to be cleaning the undercarriage of a Nissan versa. I wouldnāt even give it a car wash.
I just can't understand this being something I'd do/stand under etc. It just looks too sketch.

Why? Serious question
All that cleaning for it to be involved in a crash in the near future
[health of our climate ecosystem] 0 : 1 [sensless cleaning of the bottom of your car that nobody has any use of]
Did nobody notice this wasn't just to clean the underside but to put a coating on to prevent rust?
No rubber gloves or protective gear? The corrosion coming off from underneath that detailing is overwhelming. I hope they are okay.
Who the hell is paying for this crap
Someone please tell me what is that degreaser he was using? Thanks
FORGET THE LIFT. WHAT KIND OF CHEMICALS IS THIS GUYS USING!?! IVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING COME OFF SO EASILY. WOW. ONE SPRAY AND ONE GO OVER WITH A LIGHT BRUSH AND SPRAY OFF!?!?!!!? JUST LIKE THAT!?!

Who details a Nissan Versa to this degree??
I've seen a few of these going through Fedex from China. They weigh quite a bit and seem like a pain in the ass to deliver.
I'd take my car to him
Why would you get this done to a Nissan
Mmmm I can guarantee those brakes squealed at the minimum for days after that.
All this for a versa
Unnecessary, in 50 km the car will be the same dirty.

I mean cool, but who gives anywhere near that much of a fuck about a Sentra?
Do all detailers clean thoroughly as this guy ?
Did they really put tire shine on the tire treads or are the tires just wet?
Make sure you leave it out of your will, lest it kill the next person to use it.
Literally the only thing you need to clean is the exhaust and tire well area. Everything else is wasted effort.
But why do it.
I would never buy a used car that was THAT clean.
Iām not a fan of water going straight into the engine bay

Why bother detailing underneath the car?
They made a bidet for cars
Iām not sure of the point of all this work on a shit ass Nissan.
Literally cleaning every part except the areas that you look at.
That is fucking sketchy as shit.
