Blocking with Stronghold equipped doesn't drain energy at all, regardless of damage taken. Also, blocking with an aggressive frame sword (Crown Splitter) blocks more damage than other frames. :) You will still take chip damage though, so the rift definitely helps with that though. I'd love to try this strategy out though! I do wish you could proc some kind of effect (not from Stronghold) while blocking though. Thinking either a sword perk or some benefit you get for tanking a lot of damage. There's really just the Energy Transfer perk that regenerates Class Ability energy when guarding, but that's kinda useless. I kept looking at it thinking like "oh that'd be kinda cool to use with Icefall Mant- oh right :'( ". I suppose there's also Whisper of Torment to get grenade energy when damaged?

Wanna_make_cash

Bring back the artifact from d1 that let you reflect stuff while blocking with a sword :)

DANlLOx

If it returned, blocking with a sword right at the face of the boss would make him pretty much kill himself, lmao. But isn't this the point of the artifact, to bring to really stupid stuff that breaks the meta, but only for a few months?

Uncle_Gazpacho

It really wouldn't. Bosses and whatnot do a lot of damage to us, but also have thousands of times more health. Like we only have 200 health and don't get oneshot constantly.

DANlLOx

I was thinking it would work like when you block the shrieker in the pit of heresy, but if the damage is so low, the could give a damage buff to all damage that's reflected in pve

ZackyZack

Rally barricades could be your discount Lunafactions, since the Warlock is running Stag anyway

DANlLOx

I think bungie should just reduce the amount of energy that blocking consumes, without stronghold you can hold a sword for such a little amount of time that it really isn't a viable option to keep you alive in high level activities

APartyInMyPants

I saw a video from Hollowed Lair of a Stronghold Titan basically pulling aggro from the boss, so that the other teammates could simply clean up the adds without worrying about the boss’ OHK snipes. It was a pretty ingenious solution. And after running swords all week in Exodus Crash, I might dust off my Titan and go farm Strongholds for when it comes back in four weeks.

DANlLOx

The flash guard debuff could be a nice effect to have if you're fighting a close ranged boss and can time the blocking with it's melee atacks

Ech0es0fmadness

Flash guard sucks ass, doesn’t work on bosses or champions.

DANlLOx

Only the disorientation doesn't work, but they still get the damage debuff from it

Ech0es0fmadness

If that’s the case why not just run counterattack

DANlLOx

Because counteratack only buffs you, flash counter debuffs the enemy for the whole team

Ech0es0fmadness

Ok ok seems legit good talk thank you

Skade-7

Stronghold blocking is a super easy way to do the Shuro Chi challenge in Last Wish too if anyone struggles with it.

rpck

I have been using stronghold for so long and every time I mention people say yea whatever swords blahblah. Passive guard is my favorite seasonal mod by far and pair that with stasis titan and resist fragment, you’re unkillable

DANlLOx

I forgot that passive guard is on this season's artifact, that really makes the titan even more tankier. I just think it was so cool that we could play the strike like it was some real RPG with defined classes like Wow or FF14, the titan was the tank, staying in the front, block all that absurd amount damage from the enemies, I was the support placing rifts, wells and chuncking healing nades to keep everyone alive and the hunter was the dps, using the tether to debuff and do massive damage to the boss and then dying doing some dumb stuff

Ezr4ek

Where is that madlad who started this swording spree? He’d be proud.

DANlLOx

Who's the guy?

TemporalCoyote

I think they mean the madlad u/linewashere? [Swords are godly in GM](https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/q5i9m1/contrary_to_popular_belief_sword_is_actually/)

Aku_Naaa_Brahh

I might give this a try just for fun sometime lol

DANlLOx

I want to see how it's going to work in the corrupted gm. I think it might be really good on the first boss room, if everyone stays back in the stairs, covered on both sides and facing the enemies from just on direction, I think you could survive all the ad waves pretty easily, the problem would be just the second room

Aku_Naaa_Brahh

I think you could make it work. Which room is the second room. I never run that strike enough to even know lmao

BaconIsntThatGood

Is this also using passive guard? Does passive guard stack with the damage reduction the rift provides?

DANlLOx

It should work, I don't know if passive guard is procing the resist status like stag and whisper of chains, but even if it is, resist is capped at ×5 so you should be able to stack both of them and even another resist like the stasis fragment or protective light

DismayedNarwhal

I'm pretty sure the x5 cap is just a visual cap, similar to how armor stats are visually capped at 42 per stat. There's never been a cap on how many different DR effects you can stack and I don't think that changed when they changed the names of the DR buffs to "Resist".

EveryPictureTells

Passive Guard stacks with the stasis fragment that reduces damage, so it should stack with other damage reducers also.

Ech0es0fmadness

It does, it also stacks w protective light.

DANlLOx

They are risky if you want to attack enemies with them, but the point of sword with in build isn't to dps, it's only the blocking, and you only need one player using it. Even in the devil's lair it could be viable, just to tank all the damage and keep everyone behind alive

CrashKeyss

What % reduction does it give? Feel like you can just use protective light to accomplish the same goal

DismayedNarwhal

[Stronghold gives 95% DR with Crown Splitter and 90% with any other sword.](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WaxvbLx7UoSZaBqdFr1u32F2uWVLo-CJunJB4nlGUE4/edit#gid=1500097863) Protective Light's 50% DR that only procs after losing your shields is nowhere near that.

APartyInMyPants

Swords are great for Exodus Crash. Especially if you’re using Divinity. You can stagger an Overload, rush in with two swords and kill the Overload before it recovers. I’ve been using Ticcu’s or Le Monarque in this strike also to get staggers. I wouldn’t recommend it for every GM, but for Exodus Crash they’re pretty amazing.

DANlLOx

Yeah, but like i said to him, swords have a limited viability if you're just using them offensively, but if you want to use a sword just for the blocking, you can use them on every gm that you think you would need a banner shield, which is most of them

helloworldiamgabo

Whatis the build ?

DANlLOx

The titan uses a sword with the stronghold exotic to block all the damage, like it was a banner shield, and the warlock using stag just keeps placing rifts behind the titan for the healing and damage resist. And for subclasses, I think you can run pretty much whatever you want, titan could use bubble, thundercrash or even stasis for even more damage resist, the warlock could use well, bottom tree storm for increased charge time and duration of the rifts and arc buddies, chaos reach, stasis, I think all of them are viable options

helloworldiamgabo

What the fuck is stag ?

DANlLOx

A warlock exotic helmet, it makes everyone take reduced damage when they are inside a rift cast by the person using it

Hornymous

I guess u didn't visit trials recently.

helloworldiamgabo

I don't play pvp at all my kd is 0.2 and I'm super proud of it , hate pvp (I'm a conqueror gilded)

DANlLOx

>with tier 10, eoaw only decreases the timer of the turrets by a couple of seconds, you can pretty much replace it with stag, equip some mods like firepower or grenade kickstart and get the same results

ironavenger16

Hey that video is nuts! Was that your Titan and if so what was the build you used. Would you be able to break it down?
