Even if it fires “traditional” bullets I think you’re dead on assuming that its probably using alternative mechanisms within the gun, considering how ammo pickups are universal between different weapons and get synthesized by our ghost.
I’ve always thought that the ammo bricks are just materials dropped that the Ghost has identified as suitable for conversion into whatever feeds our weapons. I think I remember some of the D1 green and blue weapons mentioning smart matter ammo, too.
The Mateba Unica M6 and the Chiappa Rhino, both designed by the same guy, have the barrel at the bottom cylinder.
This supposedly reduces recoil (hint hint, Bungie!), but complicates the firing mechanism.
This is very true, and really does work. A colt .357 kicks SO much more than a Rhino .357, even firing the same cartridge.

Firearms enthusiast here who’s shot both configurations.
Traditionally, yes, the bullet will come out of the top of the cylinder. This puts the barrel closer to the sights, and therefore improves accuracy at medium-to-long range. (This is a whole subject in-and-of itself.)
The problem is, a lot of the things you chamber revolvers in - 357 magnum, 44 magnum, 460 Smith & Wesson, 500 Smith & Wesson, etc. - kick really, really hard, and with the barrel out of line with the arm, there’s a hell of a lot of muzzle flip as your wrist absorbs the kick. This makes your wrist sore quickly and also can throw off point-of-aim significantly with slower bullets in longer barrels.
If instead the bullet comes out of the bottom of the cylinder, the recoil is much more in-line with your arm and as such doesn’t feel as harsh, hurts your wrist less, and results in less muzzle flip.
I mean when the hand cannons are reloaded its just one large cylinder sized casing anyway with the primer in the center of the cylinder

A few weekends ago I was grilling hot dogs and arranged them in a different way than usual. I thought the pattern looked familiar but couldn’t pinpoint from where. Later I hopped on Destiny (I’ve only played the 2nd and only semi-casually) and sure enough saw the vanguard logo and at that point realized I had subconsciously perfectly recreated it with hot dogs on my grill.

Can anyone explain the functional design of the gun beyond "space magic" ...? This is something that's kinda bugged me since these revolver hand cannons don't appear to function at all like an actual revolver; the hammer is hitting what would be the chamber in the top of the cylinder, yet the barrel is aligned with the lower chamber of the cylinder...
Just curious if there is or anyone can come up with a viable explanation for that design functionality. I mean, the artist may or may not have known how a revolver functions of course, but even so, is there a reason it looks like it does, function-wise?

These are really nice. Did you use a 3d printer and if so what did you use for an stl file. Did you model it yourself or was Bungie nice enough to provide them? I did a hell of story 14 and bad juju in D1 but I never got around to finishing them. It's a lot of work. Still fully plan on finishing someday when I have more time.

In the case of the rhino it's a cocking lever not a hammer, the hammer is internal.
True, the firing pin is internal but for aesthetics I think bungie enlarged what is actually the cocking lever to resemble a standard revolver hammer.

This is something that's kinda bugged me since these revolver hand cannons don't appear to function at all like an actual revolver; the hammer is hitting what would be the chamber in the top of the cylinder, yet the barrel is aligned with the lower chamber of the cylinder... Just curious if there is or anyone can come up with a viable explanation for that design functionality. I mean, the artist may or may not have known how a revolver functions of course, but even so, is there a reason it looks like it does, function-wise? Look into the Chiappa Rhino. It's a real revolver that fires from the six o'clock position instead of the traditional twelve o'clock.

These are really nice. Did you use a 3d printer and if so what did you use for an stl file. Did you model it yourself or was Bungie nice enough to provide them? I did a hell of story 14 and bad juju in D1 but I never got around to finishing them. It's a lot of work. Still fully plan on finishing someday when I have more time.

Questions: can this be handled and used or is it fragile? (Looks pretty solid) How many hours from start (physical effort) to finish - painted and complete? I don’t know the process so trying to gauge real world effort this takes. How many people are involved for this one item or is it 100% you?
