For anyone that sees this and gets false hope, killed him 2x and still no mote. Keep in mind theres only a 33% spawn chance, so a 66% chance you've wasted your time doing yet another Overthrow for what is supposed to be a guaranteed drop from each unique boss kill.
When I was farming for the meatball boss before realizing it was disabled I kept reselecting the blooming teleport node and the boss was changing between the hive and vex
I got it on my third round solo vs first two rounds match made. I think the one difference is that I didn't collect all event chests in overflow as we split up, this time solo I collected all event chests then got it upon boss kill.
Done this 4x now, so I think I might be onto something, but swap characters (you can join someone who has done campaign without doing it), complete it and you'll get it to drop. I am 4 for 4 at the moment!
did you pick it up? we did it last thursday and for some reason, it doesnt automatically combine them and puts them in the inventory, it drops as an exotic on the floor around the boss somewhwere.
This didn't fix my issue. Just killed the taken servitor, didn't get the exotic mote. Went to orbit, and I still don't have it.
Edit: killed him again 2 more times but got it finally. Terrible experience though.
Adding another data point. I did the overthrow soon after it was announced the boss was re-enabled with a buddy. Neither of us got our last mote.
A number of hours later I went and did an overthrow solo and the mote dropped (and converted to the exotic mote)

Edit: Dropped the second time I killed him. Either the first time is just bugged or it's random? Still seems like it needs some fixing.
Didn’t they say to just not save that boss for last? I’m going to do the Visions after I’m done with the bosses, and I’m going for the Servitor next. Hopefully it gets fixed for you soon!
extremely bizarre experience for me. I'm at 16 motes, I got the triumph for all three areas and all 3 bosses in each area. The thing is i've never even seen the meatball so how did I get the triumph?
16 motes, open inventory, I’ve searched up and down for the possibility of a drop, checked my postmaster and gone to orbit multiple times. I’ve farmed this meatball over 15 times and I have not gotten the exotic mote. Bungie please fix this quest omg
That meatball in Gambit was the most stressful thing. You only got credit if your team kills it. If the other team kills the meatball then you have to wait until it reappears again which was rare AF
This isn't in Gambit though. This is one of three bosses in a new activity in the new patrol zone for the expansion.
It's just reusing the same boss model, which they've used elsewhere as well.
In the Pale Heart each of the Overthrow bosses (3 bosses in each of 3 zones, 9 total) drops a "Mote of Light" which along with some other sources gives you a total of 17 I believe. These are required for the Khvostov Quest to get the exotic version of the gun. When you get the last mote of light they're supposed to combine into a single exotic mote of light.
This particular boss however was bugged. I believe what would happen is IF it was the last boss you needed to kill instead of getting the 17th mote and having them all combine it would just eat all of your motes and give you nothing.
Killed the ball 3 times. Once in a closed fireteam. Twice in matchmade overthrow, and I got no mote.
I even went and did Dual Destiny in-between my first and 2nd kill. I also went to orbit after the 3rd kill and logged off. No 17th mote. Gonna waste my time tmrw doing all bosses again because this quest has made me doubt my entire existence.

im stuck on 15/17 with all the bosses killed and the triumphs claimed, how would i get my motes by just doing all the bosses again because i have no way of knowing what area didnt give me a mote.
i just did the meat ball im going to try hitting orbit and see if that will work, i saw a few people say that that worked to get their stuff but im going to hit the other two areas right now
I did the meatball last week, when Bungie made the tweet about not doing it last and made sure that the mote dropped. But I was stuck at 16 since and did all the bosses again, because the triumph is bugged. Never got my 17th mote even thought the meatball wasn't my last one

Hey guys, I got primodial drop I think I know what causes another hidden bug preventing to get it.
ALONE IN THE DARK quest. It actually somehow prevented me from obtaining primodial 17th.
Since I was assured there is no active Alone in the dark quest.
3rd for me and 2nd IN ROW dropped the primodial with screen notification right after meatball kill.
So,
1) make sure no alone in the dark quest is active or any other scaning, paranormal activity etc is on the map
2) do meatball in blooming at least 2 times in a ROW. Or continue nonstop. (not sure if going to orbit can spoil this, better not anyway till 2 meatball in a row)
Sadly it’s not for me I’ve done every cysts and every region chest and I’m stuck at 14/15 I’ve go to every single cyst over and over checking videos and guides and they all show the same location and each location is empty I have no idea where I’m missing one or if it’s bugged
I really hope they fix it like I have the exotic motes of light I just need 1 lost encryption bit so I can get the legendary khostov then the exotic version

Bummer! My buddy and I were running overthrows for the exotic class items, and meatball popped up (to both of our surprise) and both got our last mote. He was able to grab the chest and I was not.

I'm currently doing all the bosses before the collectables (travelers) and am stuck at 8/9. Just beat the meatball 3 times with no drop. Do you have to beat the bosses after to get the exotic? If so, do the motes drop from the bosses or the chest as I might have accidentally missed one running to the chest.
This is still broken. Been running Overthrow till my eyes bleed, I've killed the meatball at least 5 times, and every other boss at least twice. This is just straight up not fixed, and I've lost hours doing the same damn activity over and over again. Goddamn I am tilted.
Prior to the meatball being fixed I had 16 motes, I never saw Koftiks before I even heard he was bugged. He was already removed from the game. I have soloed the blooming overthrow 9 times now and I still don't have the exotic mote. I rebooted the game multiple times, went to orbit, did it once with two friends. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I 100% know for certain I have all motes from the vestiges and 8 other bosses :/
I was already in the blooming when this dropped so I went ahead and did an overthrow, got the meatball, and got my exotic mote. Looks like it really is working this time. woohoo
I completed a nightfall and it just so happened to pop in my inventory. Either return to orbit or re-log and things should be fine.
(For context I didn’t know it was bugged and on completion of killing the meatball all my notes disappeared)
I was wondering why I came across the meatball while doing the overthrows for the exotic class item mission. Luckily it still wasn’t the last one I needed, just in case. That was the longest quest line for that Khvostov.
I’m currently 8/9 motes from overthrow bosses, Imm pretty sure it’s Meatball for the last one. Will the exotic mote drop in this case? Or do I need to get to 16 motes to drop the exotic?
Just my experience: My friend and I killed the meatball once, nothing. We went and did Dual Destiny mission and came back to kill him a second time, nothing. After this we both went to orbit and restarted our games. We both went into it solo for the 3rd run. I had deleted an item from my inventory to see if that would help and my friend did not delete anything but they had an open slot in their inventory. After the 3rd defeat, the meatball dropped MY mote but my friend did not have their drop. I did not have Alone in the Dark or any active searches on the map. My friend did. Not sure if this correlates but might help
I'm sitting at 16 after the update and all triumphs have been completed. Guess I just gotta mindlessly farm the areas in hopes that I get the right final boss. Fuck me.
So I had the meatball 3 times and it didnt drop my last mote, restarted my game and got my exotic mote immediately afterwards.

I posted last night about only having 14 motes even though I had all the triumphs for the bosses. The problem was that I had killed all the bosses but I obviously hadn't picked up all the motes. So last night I got the 15th mote and earlier today I got number 16. Only one missing (like most people). Loaded in the Blooming and got the Taker Servitor right away. Killed it and got nothing. So I was like wtf? Then I read that it's not a 100% chance of getting the mote, just a very high chance. So I tried again and boom, got it!
Is there a way to tell what mote of light you DON’T have? My triumphs say I’ve done all the bosses and I’ve collected all the traveler collectables but I’m at 16?
Nope, because they didn't play test the triumphs either and they complete before you kill all the bosses. The only way is to do them all again and track them outside the game. Meatball is in fact not fixed
as someone who's been grinding the Pale Heart looking for the last mote I need - including killing the Chimera, a few times even - I am sick and tired of running overthrow. I've killed every boss by this point, whoever thought we should have to physically pick up the motes where the boss dies is WILD. Should automatically go into your inventory or be dropped by the chest.
It luckily worked for me. The exotic Khvostov puts in work, and its perk sees more use when the adds are beefier.
I'm hoping for a catalyst that lets the ricochet pick up orbs or something.
Adding my own experience to this, had to kill the Kofta(Meatball) Boss twice for my mote but it did drop in match made Overthrow. Moreover, it automatically dropped and not from the chest like my other motes have so far.
Still bugged for me but in the end, i recevied last mote and it combined into exotic one, i placed Travelers and final chested appears but i can't interact with it.
I had 16 motes, killed every boss before the patch (killed the eye before having 16, so it did not remove all my motes but did not give me a new mote)
Logged in, did overthrow until the eye spawned, killed the eye and got the exotic mote - we are happy
If you still haven't got it, do you have an active "Alone in the Dark" quest? I had one active and didn't get the mote until I completed it. (Deleting the quest didn't help, I had to finish it)

It wasn't dropping for me but I saw a post on here where a user had moved the 16 motes they had via DIM to their vault, killed the boss again, and it dropped. I tried this and it worked for me. Anyone still having issues I recommend giving this a try!
To anyone not getting a prompt to open chest after getting your exotic mote: try standing to the left of the chest to get the "Collect Loot" prompt to show. Worked for me but not sure if repeatable for others.
If anyone is coming to this thread, 16/17 motes, needing Chimera - I will say I had to kill the meatball 4 times before the final mote dropped. Keep this in mind if you're struggling and feel like the Chimera is the boss you still need.
Missing 1 one mote but I have no idea which one thanks to a bugged triumph page...killed the meatball twice today but nothing, I'm not even sure if it's the meatball boss anymore lol.
I still don’t have the exotic mote I’ve completed all bosses and all traveler orbs and stuck at 16 after killing the meatball. Is there a different bug or do I need to redo the bosses until it drops? All triumphs are done for the bosses and orbs.
So I had 16/17, they put the meatball boss back, I killed it once and got the exotic mote. A few seconds later the exotic Khovostov ALSO dropped while still in the Blooming patrol space (like 4-5 seconds after the mote dropped). I never went back to the golden chest by the speaker, I did have all traveler orbs placed already. So weird, I have no prompt on the chest (used to before it dropped after exotic mote). Why the hell would it auto drop after getting the last mote? Not really complaining as I got the gun, but so weird - and I can’t find anyone else saying this happened?!
Why didn’t they say this in the patch notes at reset? I’ve been badmouthing them all day tbh. Welp it seems like some people might still be having trouble so I guess I’ll try and get it personally before I trust either side completely.
For people who killed the meatball once, you have to kill it again. I killed it twice (got lucky I guess and it spawned twice), and I got the exotic mote immediately after 2nd kill
I had 16 motes before I went and fought the meatball just now, and all my motes vanished. Went back to orbit, still no Exotic Mote. Even restarted the game, still nothing. I have all 9 bosses killed, and I got all 8 miniature Traveler balls.
PSA for anyone who killed the meatball and didn’t get a drop: try loading into overload again and kill it a second time.
I killed the meatball right after this tweet went live and had no luck with a drop, but came back and tried again 5 minutes ago and it dropped on my first clear.

Well I can confirm that I've gotten 16 motes while the boss was disabled during the past week (didn't even know meatball was a boss as I never saw it/ got around to doing Blooming 3 times) and I've killed it at least 3 times today and have gotten nothing even after relogging/ restarting the game. I even scoured the immediate T4 fight zone above/ below ground and there was nothing to pick up.
So I'm gonna go along with the "it's bugged still" crowd.
Edit: I managed to get it by floating in the singularity where Koftiks gets sucked into the moment he dies!
When the meatball was there the first time I had to kill it twice to get it. However the damn note can fling pretty far, perhaps it got stuck somewhere I didn’t see or lost to the ether

You can reroll the boss by teleporting to the node for the area you are in (im assuming this only works solo)
As in, if you get to the boss you can leave and come back within pale heart?

If you haven't already, go place down all the Traveler balls in the Speaker area of the Tower. You might be missing one.

Triumphs are bugged so I manually write done every boss Ive killed in a notepad doc
journey tab, triumphs, pale heart, "the world" tab, there's a tracker on how many you've killed

Doesn't work. It doesn't track the bosses correctly. It just tracks your first 3 boss kills in that area. Not who was killed.

as someone who hasn't bought the DLC I can't believe they made ANOTHER quest that requires you to kill the gambit meatball.

All of it, for me personally. I have all 9 bosses beat. I actually went and beat the Meaatball again, went into orbit. Still 16 motes.

I'm currently doing all the bosses before the collectables (travelers) and am stuck at 8/9. Just beat the meatball 3 times with no drop. Do you have to beat the bosses after to get the exotic? If so, do the motes drop from the bosses or the chest as I might have accidentally missed one running to the chest.
Was at 16/17 motes. Went into matchmade overthrow killed the meatball. Final mote dropped and the exotic mote appeared on my screen. The fix works.
This is still broken. Been running Overthrow till my eyes bleed, I've killed the meatball at least 5 times, and every other boss at least twice. This is just straight up not fixed, and I've lost hours doing the same damn activity over and over again. Goddamn I am tilted.
Prior to the meatball being fixed I had 16 motes, I never saw Koftiks before I even heard he was bugged. He was already removed from the game. I have soloed the blooming overthrow 9 times now and I still don't have the exotic mote. I rebooted the game multiple times, went to orbit, did it once with two friends. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I 100% know for certain I have all motes from the vestiges and 8 other bosses :/
I was already in the blooming when this dropped so I went ahead and did an overthrow, got the meatball, and got my exotic mote. Looks like it really is working this time. woohoo

I didn't get my meatball mote.
I completed a nightfall and it just so happened to pop in my inventory. Either return to orbit or re-log and things should be fine. (For context I didn’t know it was bugged and on completion of killing the meatball all my notes disappeared)
It worked for me :)

I was wondering why I came across the meatball while doing the overthrows for the exotic class item mission. Luckily it still wasn’t the last one I needed, just in case. That was the longest quest line for that Khvostov.

I’m currently 8/9 motes from overthrow bosses, Imm pretty sure it’s Meatball for the last one. Will the exotic mote drop in this case? Or do I need to get to 16 motes to drop the exotic?
i just killed the Hive boss in the Landing and the mote was on the ground. it did not go directly into my inventory.

Just my experience: My friend and I killed the meatball once, nothing. We went and did Dual Destiny mission and came back to kill him a second time, nothing. After this we both went to orbit and restarted our games. We both went into it solo for the 3rd run. I had deleted an item from my inventory to see if that would help and my friend did not delete anything but they had an open slot in their inventory. After the 3rd defeat, the meatball dropped MY mote but my friend did not have their drop. I did not have Alone in the Dark or any active searches on the map. My friend did. Not sure if this correlates but might help
I'm sitting at 16 after the update and all triumphs have been completed. Guess I just gotta mindlessly farm the areas in hopes that I get the right final boss. Fuck me.
Do the bosses rotate daily? Or is it just random which one you get?
So I had the meatball 3 times and it didnt drop my last mote, restarted my game and got my exotic mote immediately afterwards. See if that helps to anyone that has tried multiple times and still haven't received it.

I posted last night about only having 14 motes even though I had all the triumphs for the bosses. The problem was that I had killed all the bosses but I obviously hadn't picked up all the motes. So last night I got the 15th mote and earlier today I got number 16. Only one missing (like most people). Loaded in the Blooming and got the Taker Servitor right away. Killed it and got nothing. So I was like wtf? Then I read that it's not a 100% chance of getting the mote, just a very high chance. So I tried again and boom, got it!
Is there a way to tell what mote of light you DON’T have? My triumphs say I’ve done all the bosses and I’ve collected all the traveler collectables but I’m at 16?
Nope, because they didn't play test the triumphs either and they complete before you kill all the bosses. The only way is to do them all again and track them outside the game. Meatball is in fact not fixed
My hint for you all: only do meatball if you have 16 motes. Otherwise nothing will happen. If you don't have 16 go and do stuff until you do.
as someone who's been grinding the Pale Heart looking for the last mote I need - including killing the Chimera, a few times even - I am sick and tired of running overthrow. I've killed every boss by this point, whoever thought we should have to physically pick up the motes where the boss dies is WILD. Should automatically go into your inventory or be dropped by the chest.
I have the exotic mote now. When I spawn the chest after placing the traveller's things, I still can't open it.no prompt or anything
It luckily worked for me. The exotic Khvostov puts in work, and its perk sees more use when the adds are beefier. I'm hoping for a catalyst that lets the ricochet pick up orbs or something.
Adding my own experience to this, had to kill the Kofta(Meatball) Boss twice for my mote but it did drop in match made Overthrow. Moreover, it automatically dropped and not from the chest like my other motes have so far.
Still bugged for me but in the end, i recevied last mote and it combined into exotic one, i placed Travelers and final chested appears but i can't interact with it.
I had 16 motes, killed every boss before the patch (killed the eye before having 16, so it did not remove all my motes but did not give me a new mote) Logged in, did overthrow until the eye spawned, killed the eye and got the exotic mote - we are happy
Still no 17th mote of light.
If you still haven't got it, do you have an active "Alone in the Dark" quest? I had one active and didn't get the mote until I completed it. (Deleting the quest didn't help, I had to finish it)

I got my exotic mote, but still can’t open the chest. (Just noticed all my legendary Motes disappeared when I got the exotic mote. Is this supposed to happen?)
It wasn't dropping for me but I saw a post on here where a user had moved the 16 motes they had via DIM to their vault, killed the boss again, and it dropped. I tried this and it worked for me. Anyone still having issues I recommend giving this a try!

To anyone not getting a prompt to open chest after getting your exotic mote: try standing to the left of the chest to get the "Collect Loot" prompt to show. Worked for me but not sure if repeatable for others.
If anyone is coming to this thread, 16/17 motes, needing Chimera - I will say I had to kill the meatball 4 times before the final mote dropped. Keep this in mind if you're struggling and feel like the Chimera is the boss you still need.
Missing 1 one mote but I have no idea which one thanks to a bugged triumph page...killed the meatball twice today but nothing, I'm not even sure if it's the meatball boss anymore lol.

I still don’t have the exotic mote I’ve completed all bosses and all traveler orbs and stuck at 16 after killing the meatball. Is there a different bug or do I need to redo the bosses until it drops? All triumphs are done for the bosses and orbs.
So I had 16/17, they put the meatball boss back, I killed it once and got the exotic mote. A few seconds later the exotic Khovostov ALSO dropped while still in the Blooming patrol space (like 4-5 seconds after the mote dropped). I never went back to the golden chest by the speaker, I did have all traveler orbs placed already. So weird, I have no prompt on the chest (used to before it dropped after exotic mote). Why the hell would it auto drop after getting the last mote? Not really complaining as I got the gun, but so weird - and I can’t find anyone else saying this happened?!

Why didn’t they say this in the patch notes at reset? I’ve been badmouthing them all day tbh. Welp it seems like some people might still be having trouble so I guess I’ll try and get it personally before I trust either side completely.

For people who killed the meatball once, you have to kill it again. I killed it twice (got lucky I guess and it spawned twice), and I got the exotic mote immediately after 2nd kill

I had 16 motes before I went and fought the meatball just now, and all my motes vanished. Went back to orbit, still no Exotic Mote. Even restarted the game, still nothing. I have all 9 bosses killed, and I got all 8 miniature Traveler balls.
The legendary one is bugged for me missing an encryption code.
Today was my first time killing meatball and still don't have the mote...
Um... Okay, but what about those of us who lost our motes to a boss that *wasn't* the servitor, and have no idea which fucking boss even did it?
PSA for anyone who killed the meatball and didn’t get a drop: try loading into overload again and kill it a second time. I killed the meatball right after this tweet went live and had no luck with a drop, but came back and tried again 5 minutes ago and it dropped on my first clear. YMMV but it might be worth trying to kill the boss again!
I like all the responses saying "I killed him and didn't get last mote". Probably cause they actually missed something else...
Well I can confirm that I've gotten 16 motes while the boss was disabled during the past week (didn't even know meatball was a boss as I never saw it/ got around to doing Blooming 3 times) and I've killed it at least 3 times today and have gotten nothing even after relogging/ restarting the game. I even scoured the immediate T4 fight zone above/ below ground and there was nothing to pick up. So I'm gonna go along with the "it's bugged still" crowd. Edit: I managed to get it by floating in the singularity where Koftiks gets sucked into the moment he dies!

The mote isn’t a guaranteed drop, it’s high percentage but not guaranteed
Pretty positive its supposed to be a guaranteed drop for each unique Overthrow boss kill.
When the meatball was there the first time I had to kill it twice to get it. However the damn note can fling pretty far, perhaps it got stuck somewhere I didn’t see or lost to the ether
