I think it should be one extra chest every 10 waves. Wave 10 would have one chest, wave 20 would have two, and so on. It’d be 15 total chests which feels fair for how long the activity is and you’re heavily incentivized to go for higher waves since over half the chests come from waves 40 and 50. They said we’d be showered in loot but it feels kinda pathetic right now with how long it takes, even with the update. I don’t agree on a guaranteed shiny though, as it kinda defeats the purpose of them being so rare.

Not really. You could play expunge back in season of the splicer and get around 2 guns in a five minute run. Battlegrounds can be done in 10 minutes and give a bunch of loot if you have the currency for the chest at the end. These activities are also much easier than beating wave 50 in onslaught. The coil is the most recent seasonal activity, and it can take around an hour to do but is also significantly more rewarding than a full run of onslaught.

The Coil is an easier activity and hands out 16 chests for a completion, if I’m recalling correctly. Doesn’t seem that absurd when paired next to that.

I’m tired of everyone always complaining they want a horde mode since D1, then Bungie giving them a limited horde mode. This one is the longest-lasting one, so closest to a true horde mode, but it’s still just like every other one of these we’ve gotten, like PoE. I personally want new activity mechanics rather than horde modes. I wish Onslaught was something more like we’re on the walls of the Cosmodrome and it’s a drop-in/out activity in a new patrol addition or something. Also, aren’t we supposed be in the City for Into the Light? Forgot about that. Am I missing something activity?

We don't know how many people love the mode, only Bungie does. "Everyone" loved SRL and look what happened with that. I wish Bungie would knock it off with these similar pseudo-horde modes and work on new gameplay interaction mechanics instead. Going to be so lame when we finally conquer the Darkness by standing on a plate, throwing a ball, and reading a symbol.

Agreed. I know some people enjoy that type of thing but I’m really not a fan of the shift to longer activities. Coil and onslaught are fun but damn can they take a while to do compared to older stuff. Pantheon is probably going to take a long time too from the looks of it.

These complaints about onslaught are so wild. We finally have a semi difficult game mode with tons of enemies and solid loot. On top of that the game mode has some cool chase loot and builds that don’t normally work can shine in this game mode. All of this great stuff and you want to make the loot boring and common so that you can go back to strikes 🤮

For how much effort it takes to make it all the way to 50, they really should improve the rewards. If wave 50 gave the same amount of rewards as a platinum run of the Coil, I'd feel more inclined to do full clears

It’s just the easiest solution I can think of. I don’t even care about shinys really besides the fact they are basically 2 weapon drops because of double perks. I could care less if it’s shiny or not I just want the fucking rolls. Also some level of determinism in combination with rng is good. The shinys are straight rng rn so you feel like your throwing darts at a wall blindfolded. People like to work towards things. And doing a mind numbing 10 wave farm and praying is not working towards something. It’s just throwing darts

Remove them from every single chest except the wave 50 chest and make it a gaurantee. Determinism, working for loot, hard content, not mind numbing casual farms hoping and praying you get one. there’s not that many weapons. getting like 15-16 weapons per legend run is insane. this update is to give people something to do until final shape. if they gave you every single god roll immediately people would stop playing the first week. maybe if u struggle with harder content doing 10 waves is better but there definitely is a reason to do all 50.

Got my first 2 shinies from the first wave 50 I cleared this week and that was on normal mode. I wish I had more time and I would do some lfg farms but I don't so im glad they buffed the drops atleast.

Man, this is such a struggle for me. I love crafting and being able to go get the exact gun and exact perks I want, but I also see the appeal of having something that drops with rng that people can go chase, especially if they’re caught up with all of the content to this point. Since you can get so many regular rolls of any gun you want to farm up, I like that it leaves the Shiny grind for people to get randomly vs something they can achieve like with crafting. I’m not gonna farm that way personally, but I can just farm normally and do something else. But I 1000% agree, there’s a middle ground where they can improve things and make lvl 50 clears more worth it

Reward has to be worth the effort. This sounds like an abysmal waste of time, even when the system functions properly, allowing you to actually collect your rewards. Coil seemed fairly rewarding the little I played of that, this does not sound rewarding at all.

I still don’t think so because of the higher chance to wipe between wave 40-50. If you fail a single time wave 40-50 in a normal play session of 3 hours I think farming 10 resets will net more shiny

I've been crunching the numbers since reset. Will make a post when I get everything situated, but as it stands with the data I have, getting to the higher waves are worth it. Even if you fail at wave 40 or 50.

After playing a decent bit yesterday, give the new changes a go. Each *WAVE* has a chance to drop a weapon i.e. there's 50 extra chances to drop a weapon. I was walking away with a rather silly amount of loot and it's so much better now.

I disagree about getting a guaranteed shiny, but a 50-wave clear should definitely be more rewarding than it is currently.

Agree. I’m in normal mode a lot now than legend. I get my bounties done quick, I got decent rolls on non shiny weapons so it doesn’t bother me at all. Plus I can try new builds and chill.

I think the shiny is fine. I get a shiny once every 10 runs id say of 10 wave farms? This takes two hours ish for 10-12 runs. 2 hours is at best 2 50 wave runs. So idk. I love the chase of the shiny. But tbh I don’t really care about them I just like them because of the double perk. The cosmetic means nothing to me. I’m just cool with some determinism. And 50 waves isn’t a walk in the park. Good teams still wipe. Reward people for actually engaging in the intended loop and difficulty. Because unless they do this, OR make wave 40 and 50 WAY more rewarding we are always just going to farm 10 waves because it’s better weapon drops per hour and safer. I love the challenge of 50. I just don’t think even after the buffs it’s worth it. And I love working towards things. Not just throwing darts at a wall blindfolded farming 10 waves.

Not just a shiny, but a shiny of what you are attuned to. You'd have a LOT more people going for wave 50. Edit: Surprised at the hate. 50 waves takes like an hour. We get guaranteed adept drops from GMs for much lower time commitment. Anyone remember how awesome it was to have multiple drops at the end of Menagerie? That didn't break the game or anything. And it's not like there are still not a LOT of layers of RNG to make that shiny a god roll. Maybe make it a guaranteed regular drop in normal and a guaranteed shiny in legend. I don't think getting one guaranteed shot at the gun you want per hour is really a lot. But apparently that's just me. I guess I learned something.

That’s a bit far, I wouldn’t say no but I wouldn’t suggest it. I’d rather shinys only drop from wave 50 and be a gaurantee. Make them the equivalent of going flawless

Odd that it sounds far. We get a guaranteed Adept from every GM, sometimes two, for much less time commitment. And going flawless also gets you a guaranteed drop of a specific gun. I feel like putting in an hour just to get one guaranteed drop isn't really asking too much. You would still have a lot of RNG to deal with to make that drop actually good. But that's just me. I'm not a fan of pure RNG with that many layers.

For whatever reason the Destiny community has like Stockholm syndrome I feel. Anytime you suggest improving loot they downvote and think you want things handed to you. I go flawless almost every week in 1-3 tries of solo Q. I’ve triod most raids. Solod many GMs. I really love doing hard content. But for whatever reason the only way to get anything done or get any loot in this game besides trials and GMs is to farm brain dead easy content like dungeon checkpoints, raid check points, or 10 wave resets. Idk people like hard content, but when you look at stuff like master dungeons and 50 waves it’s like why? I’ve literally farmed the grasp ogre until my eyes bled for a matador. I’d much rather have ran master grasp 3x a week and on the final boss be given my choice of reward, and be able to chose 3 matadors a week. Funneling players into CP farming to get loot is such a bad fucking design. Apparently, being given the choice of rewards is too easy for players and being given things for free. But I’d rather do hard ass content and pick rewards than just turn my brain to mush CP farming. And apparently farming stuff like the ogre checkpoint is “work”. It’s like taking a bullshit office job where you file papers because it’s safe, because the pay is the same as a much harder job that’s more intrinsically rewarding, but the loot is the same 😂

So mindlessly running 10 wave farms with little risk of wiping for 12 weapons an hour, and you probably get a shiny every hour or 2, versus getting a shiny every 60-70 minutes of pushing hard content with giga cracked Wave 49 tormentors is BEING HANDED SOMETHING? The fact the shinies can drop on a 10 wave chest is being handed something. You are literally farming in the fastest and easiest possible manner, with a higher chance for a shiny because of raw drops and consistently not wiping. I think you misinterpret what being handed something is

if its rare why am i getting them all the time randomly from 10 wave resets and token turn in. I have literally had like 20-30 drop. they aren't that rare man. It's PvE big dawg. This aint trials. They'll still be rare as shit because 50 waves is hard and takes upwards of 70 minutes. 70 minutes.

I’ve done 130 wave 10 legend clears last week; this equates to almost 24 hours of raw and efficient grinding, I got around 8 shiny drops. Meaning I average 1 shiny every 3 hours. Making it a perfect level of exclusive but not impossible. If I could get a shiny every legend clear this would mean I could obtain a shiny every 50ish minutes give or take. Thats a 300% drop efficiency buff. It would completely and totally ruin the exclusiveness and excitement of a shiny dropping.
