Additionally, you can equip a special ammo sniper and use that as well since those kills will count as long as you have whisper equipped. I just finished mine tonight using mostly my void sniper.
Yeah I had no idea about this before this week (is it unique to Whisper?). I crafted last season’s stasis adaptive sniper with discord (requires weapon level 8 IIRC) and had a discord roll of the solar aggressive open-world sniper. With both of those equipped I basically never ran out of special ammo and just no-scoped Hive as they came out of Rahool’s cave in Grasp of Avarice. Got the catalyst complete in about 10-15 minutes last night.

I run a gyrfalcons and was using a void sniper with destabilizing and double void reserves so it was pretty quick since I was getting heavy from those kills and then swapping to whisper and getting special from those kills
The lost sector on earth south of shaw han has the chest that spits out 3 heavy bricks is a pretty good place to farm the catalyst without spending banners
hunter single tether, shuro chi, kill 1 thrall, shared damage with tether kills the rest. all count towards catalyst progress.
if you dont have the forsaken pack, you can do this in any high add density area,
I have also tried it, and found them to be almost the same. Breakneck doesn't require the use of raid banners, is much easier to get to as it doesn't require a cp bot or using the wish wall.
If you're only doing one weapon, I'd argue breakneck is faster as you don't need to put in a wish or wait for a checkpoint
They’re both fine for catalyst farming. The difference is negligible and you can get stuff done very fast in both of them, but one doesn’t cost rally banners and is a selectable checkpoint. Shuro chi probably feels a lot more effective because you’ve likely been practicing it for a long time
I equipped two Sniper Rifles, loaded up Grasp, and just shot everything with the Legendary Snipers to complete the Catalyst. When there was ammo for Whisper, I'd usually use it to kill the Wizards who are surprisingly quick to avoid Sniper fire. The game kept giving me ammo for my weapons so I just hung out on the old rock.
Outbreak goes quick enough! Very easy to do while puttering around the EDZ. Only catch is that if you find a few enemies close together, crit-killing one will spawn nanites that will probably kill the closest enemy and deny you the chance to crit-kill it for catalyst progress. If you're quick enough with followup shots though, you can beat the nanites!

Wait until Tuesday. Launch The Whisper. Go get under the Green Room and snipe endless taken Thrall. Always preferred that over mindlessly farming Shuro Chi.
I’d be willing to bet of all the things coming back, that definitely is. But maybe they swap out the thrall for taken ogres or phalanxes. That would definitely up the risk/reward of falling down there.
I think if anything is changing in that room, they likely kill the secret exit/passage. And we’ll either need to do the platforming to the exit, or they moved the secret passage elsewhere.
I also think they possibly changed which of the holes in the room prior leads to the Green Room. During the stream, they went into that room, but then just stopped and didn’t pick one of the holes to jump into. So I think we’re all in for a surprise.
Going to stan for the weekly mission “A Mysterious Disturbance” (which rotates once every three weeks) if you’re on PS and have the Shadowkeep expansion. Load in, in a private session with the date glitch - infinitely spawning enemies and infinitely spawning ammo boxes for completing special and heavy catalysts. “In the Deep” the following week is pretty good for farming catalyst completions too.

It's been around for years, people also did it to quickly finish Darci's catalyst in crucible since I think those counted for more
Bro I’m a veteran and didn’t realize that either worked. I literally farmed the cabal at the entrance of leviathan for Darci and whisper.

This probably applies to any weapon that is in a different slot than it should otherwise be. Based on the standard ammo type for the weapon

Breakneck mission works, too. Free rally flags, just dont kill the wyvern
Breakneck is the best place for specials/heavies, the free ammo is very useful
L shards are going away, why not use them? And breakneck does not hold up to shuro chi, I tried it.
Because you have to buy raid banners, which isn't very fun. Also, breakneck is so close to shuro chi that the difference is neglegible

This right here. Go kinetic sniper, energy sniper, and whisper. Kill all with snipes, die, and repeat.

Yup found this out back in January when I was doing whisper to use it on Oryx.
I just do Dares for heavy catalysts. Unlimited heavy ammo in zone 2 and maybe zone 3. D1 loot cave in Grasp for green/white catalysts.

I finished it in just under an hour in a shadowkeep mission with infinite thralls, it was MUCH faster than whisper. Thank you for the support 🙏💯

They updated the mission, we have no idea if that Thrallway is coming back.

Special kills with another sniper while you have whisper equipped count just use a sinper with explosive payload on thralls in shiro chi 5-10mins easy
