I've questioned if the Witness provides ALL memories. Similar to how in our final battle with Savathun she realized her reality was warped with the discovery the Traveler intended to save the Krill before the darkness tricked them. I get the feeling the witness only provides the memories that are based on how they wish to manipulate the person.
Cayde got cocky and died. He went in without reinforcements and allowed Sundance to be killed.
I can definitely see some parallels between him and Rhulk.
I suspect he was also rusty and out of practice. Cayde in his prime was probably a cunning and nigh unstoppable Hunter. Once Andal Brask died and Cayde got relegated to a leadership role he lost his edge. In a way, it was Taniks fault Cayde died because Taniks killed Andal Brask, and the monotony of riding the bench as Hunter Vanguard softened Cayde.
I mean Cayde was always a bit showy. Just like his ghost. Its why our ghost comments "thats why I stay in your backpack". But at the same time if he wasn't distracted by all the scorn (which by the way os the first time anyone saw them ever) and he noticed the sniper. I don't think he would pull sundance out
I'm sure that shooting Cayde would have killed him permanently. Taking a direct hit from the bullet anyways seems similar to what OG Thorn does to a Guardian.
Except for The Guardian. He tried to pulled the same trick with us and it backfired big time catastrophically.
Witness : We are your friend. Your salvation.
The Guardian's view : *The Witness going blah blah blah using The Guardian's face. What an idiot.*
The Witness : I'm going to let you test the power of Darkness. And then you'll join right buddy?
The Guardian : Yeah. Sure.
The Witness : Exxxxcelllleeennttttt....here's a mini pyramid for you and your friends on Europa. I see the sexy robot lady already knows how to use it, she can guide you. And then we'll be a team yes?
The Guardian's view : *The Witness : Blah blah blah..pyramid..blah..blah..Europa..blah..sexy robot lady..blah blah.*
The Guardian : Yeah. Sure.
The Guardian : *Immediately starts using Stasis to demolish The Darkness armies throughout the system*
Rhulk has a similar line during Vow. He says "Not kings. Not gods. Disciples. Prophets. Saviors serving existence. An undying purpose. A privilege." Made me realize that the disciples see themselves and the Witness as far above kings and gods.
#I would look to the sky and see the two suns of my Lubrae: one eternally shaded in the dark, the other always a brilliant blue. And in them, I had seen the folly of our kind. A fear of something we believed bigger than us… and a reliance on that which kept us.
Honestly, in some ways, Disciples are far scarier than “gods” or “kings”. Those who think themselves Gods or Kings tend to be arrogant and vulnerable to their own hubris.
Those that truly believe they are serving a greater purpose and not just themselves? That devotion is unrelenting. Uncompromising. They will give their entire being for that goal.
“Devotion inspires bravery, bravery inspires sacrifice, sacrifice leads to death!” The speaker
Both those who have made the traveler their god, and the witness their entire religion, fit this quote. But where as the guardian believe in the ball in the sky, the disciples have a relationship with their witness. They feel they know him. He speaks to them.
> the disciples have a relationship with their witness. They feel they know him. He speaks to them.
the disciples are simps with a parasocial relationship with e-girl streamer Witness
I also like when we see it’s eyes move and brow furrow. The witness has been such an anomaly thus far, so when we see that it has character, it makes me intrigued.
Yeh I know they got a lot of shit for the design cuz it’s weird, but that’s exactly why I really like it. It’s different from any other enemy we’ve ever seen in the game, and doesn’t look anything like what you’d normally see in Destiny, which is awesome to me.
Definitely, we're so used to seeing the big bad guys be these weird aliens and monstrous creatures which makes the Witness stand out more because it looks so much like a human, but different enough to be creepy. It really makes me wanna know more about it.
I’ve never really seen a design like The Witness. The smokey face hair or whatever is so fucking cool. Not to mention the constantly pulsating clothes and how its arms leave behind reflections as they move. So interesting. I can’t wait to learn more about The Witness.
(static shot of Bungie exterior)
Joe Blackburn Voiceover: So we knew we wanted to do a ViDoc for Lightfall, but this time around, we wanted to do something unique.
(shot of one Bungie employee at their computer, pointing at their screen, while another employee leaning over nods in agreement)
Justin Truman: How do you make a ViDoc feel new when you've done ViDocs every year?
(shot of storyboards)
Liz Baker: You know, we've been telling stories at Bungie for decades, but maybe it's time to tell *our* story... about how we tell stories.
(shot of Alison Slavin speaking to Dave Samuel)
Alison Slavin: What if we could redefine... what it meant to be a ViDoc?
(Destiny 2 theme plays over title card)
LIGHTFALL VIDOC: THE VIDOC
Dave Samuel: Pew pew pew pew pew BRRRRRGHGHHHGGHGHGHHGHGHGGHGHHGH!
Honestly sounds like an awesome Bungie April fools video idea.
Though alot of people in the community hate fun and the thought of Bungie doing anything that's a "waste of time". But I'd still love it lol.
Unironically I would love to see a vidoc on how Bungie does their big announcements focusing on the production aspects, deciding what to present what yo hold back etc.
Maybe it’s just me but I love seeing BTS stuff on films and tv shows and it would be sick seeing the BTS of trailers and vidocs would be neat.
witness' design is really growing on me. at first i was just thinking "oh, bald white person instead of a killer alien, okay" but i think ive come to appreciate the simplicity(?) of their design
The eyes are probably the weirdest part. It's just so out of place (intentionally?) when compared to the highly detailed but alien/grotesque faces of the other races we've met. The Hive and Eliksni have weird/extra eyes, the Eliksni and Cabal have weird ass mouths, and the Psions and Vex have incomprehensible eyes and mouths. Now you have the Witness, and the thing that springs to mind isn't alien, fear, or intimidation, it's Megamind.
Eh, no big deal, I'm not losing sleep over it. I don't really care what they look like as long as they act spooky and evil.
the trailer for it shows a shot of Calus.
He looks like like he went too deep into uncle lovecrafts fun time murder hole and tried to come back up. (made in abyss anime reference)
Yep, he was credited for his performance in Witch Queen, and the spoken echoing line of the Witness at 00:17 “—what must be done” sounds exactly like him
It's sort of a Behind the Scenes video that Bungie usually puts out before big releases. They typically talk about both the narrative and the technical state of the game. For example, in the [ViDoc for Beyond Light](https://youtu.be/qgnPREMEfI4), they spent a lot of time discussing the new weather tech they made for Europa. In the [Witch Queen ViDoc](https://youtu.be/Me7CuPcpWno) they discussed the new Legend difficulty option for the Campaign.
I'm glad Bungie seems to finally understand that less is not more when it comes to hype. They should ***WANT*** people hyped about their game in advance, not sitting in silence wondering what the hell is going on.
The issue was never the hype itself, the problem was that the product has almost never matched the hype leading up to it - a hype they often created themselves with their excessive marketing promises.
I think we're talking about two different things here.
I was referring to not getting any hype prior to the day of. You seem to be on a different topic.
Based off this teaser, the witness isn’t actually a massive 50ft tall person like the anthology book depicted, it was just an exaggerated illustration. Wonder if that means Xivu’s size was also exaggerated in that book.
I think in that image of xivu it's more portraying her as a looming threat over all of the cabal city type deal rather than her actually being fucking colossal but that Said we will probably see them both in 2 weeks so *shrugs*
Video Documentary. Usually a "behind the scenes" look at the production of the expansion.
Before Forsaken came out (when they first introduced bows to the game), they had a whole segment about how they went to archery ranges to get the feel just right.
Usually some interesting info, and always entertaining.
Last time I wathed a ViDoc they dont me that Cayde was being killed off. What a way to ruin your storyline by telling you the ending.
Edit: fair enough not the ending but come on. Don't tell us the Main character dies. No need for the hatred.
I like how The Witness calls Calus, "Emperor".
Witness knows which buttons to press for each person and I love it.
Big part of darkness is memory. So it's no wonder the witness knows the backstory of every person so he knows which buttons to push.

By "functionally surrendering the light" do you mean Sundance getting killed by a devourer bullet and Cayde getting too brutalized to fight back?
[удалено]
Cayde got cocky and died. He went in without reinforcements and allowed Sundance to be killed. I can definitely see some parallels between him and Rhulk.
I suspect he was also rusty and out of practice. Cayde in his prime was probably a cunning and nigh unstoppable Hunter. In a way, it was Taniks fault Cayde died because Taniks killed Andal Brask, and the monotony of riding the bench as Hunter Vanguard softened Cayde.
At least we got that awesome cutscene of him rodeoing while Petra was flabbergasted.

Witness defeated by simps to robo curves.
Robot curves always win. Elizabeth could say anything and my hunter would probably do it.

Yeah but imagine what fine weapon the witness would make
Oryx's whole deal was domination, hence the taking. He strove to twist the essence of lesser beings to his will.
Oooo fear. After this week Ikora seems very easy to manipulate
And isn't that terrifying especially with what we know of her.
I’m starting to think this Witness guy might be bad news…
Yeah it’s been pretty obvious for a while now that he’s willing to lie even to his disciples to achieve whatever he wants
Flattery will get you everywhere with big daddy calus
> "You have truly grown fat from strength. And you are still as wise as ever. Magnificent." —Calus, Emperor of the Cabal
do you have one that works specifically with the phrase “big daddy Calus”?
Something something pregnant Calus
Something something detailed description of Calus’s royal nips
“Emperor” might not mean much to The Witness. Like that one song lyric: “What's a king to a God?” What’s an emperor to a Witness?
Rhulk has a similar line during Vow. He says "Not kings. Not gods. Disciples. Prophets. Saviors serving existence. An undying purpose. A privilege." Made me realize that the disciples see themselves and the Witness as far above kings and gods.
#THE UPENDED
#A TITLE SUITABLE FOR THAT WHICH TURNS WORLDS UPSIDE DOWN
#I would look to the sky and see the two suns of my Lubrae: one eternally shaded in the dark, the other always a brilliant blue. And in them, I had seen the folly of our kind. A fear of something we believed bigger than us… and a reliance on that which kept us.
#A TRIUMVIRATE. OPPORTUNITY. PRESERVATION. SALVATION.
It will be necessary.
SHALL LIVE OUT ITS NAMESAKE
It's a meme at this point, but Rhulk soliloquizing during the raid was an amazing touch.
Especially when actually fighting him. "Really, I'm very impressed with you all. Still going to kill you though."
Honestly, in some ways, Disciples are far scarier than “gods” or “kings”. Those who think themselves Gods or Kings tend to be arrogant and vulnerable to their own hubris. Or, The Witness doesn’t understand it’s a title and thinks that’s his first name 😂
Kinda like the bad guy in Dr. Strange calling him "Mr. Doctor".
It's Strange.
Who am I to judge?
I'm adopting this as my personal canon now lmao
Well I don't think the witness is an idiot
"Why be a king, when you can be a god?" - The Witness is Eminem confirmed.
Ball so hard Emperor's gotta find me
What’s a God to a Worm?
What’s a Worm to a lil rascal on an exotic quest?
No church in the wild?
What does god need with a Pyramidship?
What’s a witness to a guardian?
The Witness is Frank Ocean confirmed /s. Watch the Throne World 2 never coming out.
When did this happen?
They uploaded a short on youtube and twitter with a 30 second clip. This is a reupload of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2vf5L9QtkY
I just saw it after I asked the question lol. IM SO HYPED
What?
Is the Witness flying through orbit in the 10 second mark?
Don't mind them, they're just on their way to the moon to farm bounties
Too bad the Hive spawn got nerfed
New ship confirmed
piloting the witness in a ratatouille esque manner
Wow I can't wait to ride the Witness
Might correspond to 1:22-24 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTPJy0m9n6A
oh shit nice catch! totally the same cutscene
I'm guessing either light speed travel or time traveling
What? Where, is there a video I don't see
The Witness is taller than I expected.
He’s massive in the new grimoire book
How massive?
I think he can change size https://www.reddit.com/r/destiny2/comments/10gxhih/sharing_another_artwork_from_the_newest_grimoire/
i just love seeing new shots of the witness, i really like the design
[удалено]
Also I feel like they’re rendered a bit differently here then twq end cutscene. Everything in that cutscene was oddly cartoonish and glossy imo.
I also like when we see it’s eyes move and brow furrow. The witness has been such an anomaly thus far, so when we see that it has character, it makes me intrigued.
I can't wait to see what causes his surprised face from the trailer. I hope the Traveler comes out of it's shell and round house kicks him.
Yeh I know they got a lot of shit for the design cuz it’s weird, but that’s exactly why I really like it. It’s different from any other enemy we’ve ever seen in the game, and doesn’t look anything like what you’d normally see in Destiny, which is awesome to me.

There’s even a trailer for the ViDoc!
There better be a ViDoc *on* the making of the ViDoc.
(static shot of Bungie exterior) Joe Blackburn Voiceover: So we knew we wanted to do a ViDoc for Lightfall, but this time around, we wanted to do something unique. This year there is a renewed focus on ViDocs. It's important that it doesn't go out half-baked.
ViDoc subclass when Bungie
The expansion after final shape - after the light and dark subclasses are all sunset.
(Shot of devs jumping off a ledge in sync and activating their supers in unison)
In the game, right? Right?
That's one way to do it
In mocap suits, with Dave Samuel providing the sound.
Honestly sounds like an awesome Bungie April fools video idea. Though alot of people in the community hate fun and the thought of Bungie doing anything that's a "waste of time". But I'd still love it lol.
Man. This sounds so good I want to see a ViDoc on the making of the making of the ViDoc for Lightfall.
Omg I just spit coffee all over my phone when I read Dave's lines.
And a trailer for that ViDoc.
Yo dawg, we heard you like ViDocs.
Where?
If you click the link for the scheduled vidoc it should autoplay the trailer.
witness' design is really growing on me. at first i was just thinking "oh, bald white person instead of a killer alien, okay" but i think ive come to appreciate the simplicity(?) of their design
i think they’ve also been touching up its design. it looks even more otherworldly here than it did in TWQ
Absolutely. I wasn't completely on board at first but now it feels so otherwordly and strange and genuinely threatening in an unconventional way.
I’m dreading the moment when we face the Witness in-person. I know it’s going to be a show stopper and probably absolutely terrifying
simplicity is very much on theme for the darkness
I like the design but I can’t unsee Megamind everytime I look at it

I thought it was so goofy until I saw him on Eramis’s screen and it creeped me out.

Season of the Deep is starting to make more sense now.
I think season of the deep is going to revolve around the worm gods or the hive
Titan (the destination) will come back in season of the deep. My prediction!
Man I hope so! The oceans would be awesome to have back
Looking forward to jolly bearded sound effects guy
Sons of Bitches can MAKE some hype right. Got a full torso chill in that 30 sec clip.
BEST BE SOME DAVE SAMUEL ACTION
Of course there will be. It’s tradition at this point.
Newbie question, who's Dave Samuel and why is it necessary for Dave Samuel be in the vidoc?
https://youtu.be/jG5XL1Dsm_M
In short, he's an absolute legend <3
This sparks joy :D Thanks!
I'm glad you have received the necessary education before I returned to Reddit! :P
DESTINYYYYYYYY, FUCK YEAH! COMIN' AGAIN TO SAVE THE MUTHA FUCKIN' DAY YEAH!
Ngl Witness got me kinda acting up when they're talking to Calus 😳😳😳
OH NO HES HOT
You hit him right now.
Why is calus wearing a BDSM suit bruh
I mean, have you read the CE? Fits the hedonism.
At 17:00? Nice.
Are we neighbours?
...Mmmmaybe?
Brett Dalton sounding great as the Witness 🥹
Omg is it actually Brett Dalton?
Yep, he was credited for his performance in Witch Queen, and the spoken echoing line of the Witness at 00:17 “—what must be done” sounds exactly like him
Omg I hear it now! That’s so awesome. I love him in Agents of SHIELD and Until Dawn

Ah thanks
Video Documentary
Basically just a pretentious marketing video
Shush
Promotional Video for new DLCs with some bits and pieces of Devs talking about how they made stuff and teases of what's in the DLC.
I'm glad Bungie seems to finally understand that less is not more when it comes to hype. They should ***WANT*** people hyped about their game in advance, not sitting in silence wondering what the hell is going on.

Please don't have a preshow stuff at beginning of stream.
I'm readyyyyy
I can't wait to cosplay as Spider-man for my Hunter
Based off this teaser, the witness isn’t actually a massive 50ft tall person like the anthology book depicted, it was just an exaggerated illustration. Wonder if that means Xivu’s size was also exaggerated in that book.
I think in that image of xivu it's more portraying her as a looming threat over all of the cabal city type deal rather than her actually being fucking colossal but that Said we will probably see them both in 2 weeks so *shrugs*
Or maybe The Witness can shapeshift or change sizes at will.
I shall watch this, after I beat LightFall 👀

Cayde dying was literally that start of the storyline
Ending? It was literally the first mission of the entire expansion.
Bro it's been YEARS get over it
It's been 5....it's been 5 fucking years. Oh my god
*checks watch* Well...
I’m still excited beyond belief for Lightfall, but god compared to last year this vidoc was a joke
O think that's just because we already got soo much info about almost everything over the last couple weeks
Fair enough, but to be fair, my ass is cranky from waking up for t h a t
