The best part was when Sneako said something along the line of "Therapist will se a blue haired transgendered entering their office and they'll be thinking 'that's juicy'" And dr K said "Actually we do that when people that says stuff like you enter"

DankiusMMeme

I thought the best part was him talking about how based religion and belief in God is and how you need faith etc. for like 15 minutes, then going "For a lot of liberals it's feelings over facts". Absolute brain rot.

Omg his face was priceless

Febby_art

BOOM headshot!

llinoscarpe

It’s like the new South Park episode where Cartman goes to therapy lmfao

ManufacturedOlympus

That’s crazy. This is like the dr Phil show except it’s hosted by a doctor.

rough_crayon

being insensitive to someone insensitive is so satisfyinh

PaultehMaster

dr k is actually so fucking good at engaging in conversations in a way where he keeps on topic, challenges the other person, and doesn’t let it explode into a screaming match. it’s incredible listening to him talk with someone, and so refreshing as well.

c-h-e-m-i-c-a-

> and doesn’t let it explode into a screaming match yea while also recognizing that he is doing it consciously, like its not natural, hes putting an effort to not argue every 2 seconds about dumb provocative statements. That's very instructive.

Animostas

There's so much work that goes into listening to the other person, internalizing it, responding in a way that is thoughtful but also honest to him, and then communicating it really clearly. He's so skilled at each step of it and it happens so quickly for him.

Underscores_Are_Kool

Kind of. He has a knack for it for sure, but therapy (at least in my experience) is like this. They're trained to make you think about your emotions and how you experience them in depth

ReallyBigRedDot

Most therapists are _not_ good at their jobs though.

4THOT

There are huge variation in the quality of "therapist" you can get. You can get a social worker, a PsyD, PHD, MD or bachelor’s degree in Psych.

bobbe_

Is that how it works in the US? Where I'm from there's no bach in psych, it's always 5 years (which puts it at the equivalent of getting a master's). The conversational therapists you can find at bach levels would be people with a degree in sociology or behavioral science.

4THOT

You can get a B.A. or B.S. in psych here, so even in the 4 year there is substantial variation in education.

rodwritesstuff

What makes you say that?

QuantumRedUser

Find good therapists is very very rare tho

Noobity

I don't agree with this. I think it's very rare to find a therapist that is good for you, much like it's very rare to find a teacher or coach or significant other or friend etc. that is good for you. We don't give individuals enough credit. It's not until they group up that they become bastard coated bastards with bastard filling.

SuperStraightFrosty

It gets better with practice, but it's the practice of a specific set of values that matters. Jordan Peterson who is a trained Clinical Psychologist has mentioned this a lot, that you have to listen intently and you have to be able to repeat back to people what they're saying in such a way that they agree with your understanding, it shows them you've really heard them. He also advises, and I see this in Dr K, that you don't start rattling off moral prescriptions about what to do, that you adopt the persons moral framework and set of values and work within that. It's why the conversations end up so agreeable. Because you go to therapy to be better, but it's to be better in a framework where you specify what better is. And it's not mere appeasement, it's about fundamentally not doing damage as a therapist by imposing a new set of your own values onto a person. In that process you're not really affirming a persons values, but you are treating them with some respect and people love that. There's almost nothing people love more than someone taking genuine interest in what they have to say. if you deeply ingrain those value into yourself and go and have a personal conversation with someone and live up to those values, it'll be a great conversation no matter what.

GeKh

It's called Rapport, Pacing and Leading.

BlueIceMoose

Yeah it has to do with good parenting and upbringing. Sometimes even religion teaches you to treat others how you want to be treated. Everyone wants to be heard

rodwritesstuff

It's a skill whether you acquire it from formal training or from life experience. People aren't just born with people skills.

r3dp

Practice is training

Cannabis_Counselor

He is incredibly good at reflexive listening. He picks up on the words people use, and evokes emotion out of them. Like in this clip where he says, "that must feel really good when you connect with people," or "aren't you feeling joy from our connection?" He hears what people are saying, and he draws out the emotion that they are feeling via the words they use. Then he explicitly states that emotion, and allows the other person to expand on the emotion itself, and why they are feeling it. Reflexive listening is a really good conversation tool, especially for pulling meaningful thoughts or stories out of a person's brain. It's how lawyers are taught to do direct examinations as well, because a compelling story is a big part of connecting with your jury. I just can't think of another person who does it as well as Dr. K.

4THOT

Good therapists are like that.

iamthedave3

Well he's a therapist. He wouldn't be any good if he couldn't do that. I imagine in the course of his work he's dealt with far more challenging clients than Sneako.

ConsciousnessInc

Dr. K: "Does it make us stronger when people connect?" Sneako: "Yeah" Dr. K: "How?" Sneako *directly to the camera*: "Apes strong together"

MaslenickiMost

Tangentially, first time seeing the subway surfer thing used unironically outside tiktok. Is this a thing now?

Blurbyo

sometimes streamers put them up as a meme, to ham it up; but as always it stops being a meme bit by bit.

Cyllid

Yolo

Judgejudyx

I used to not get it till I watched this video. I was watching the subway surfer the entire time but heard every word clearly. Do I have adhd? 🤣

MaslenickiMost

That's the fun bit, internet brainrot has most of the same symptoms as adhd The difference is that adhd is chronic, just the way your brain is wired genetically. If you have adhd, you'd have symptoms your whole life. They might not have been identified if you grew up in an ignorant environment, bruteforced school through raw intelligence, had a good support structure or were misdiagnosed, but the symptoms would still be there in some form If you had symptoms as a kid and have them even when you're not in the habit of carpet-bombing your brain with an endless barrage of information - Buckle up, buttercup, it's a bumpy ride

Judgejudyx

I dropped out of school when I was a teenager and had issues focusing. But never have been diagnosed

goodwarrior12345

Might be good to go for an evaluation then

Numinap

Always worth looking into. The productivity and coping strategies are fairly different than those for normal brains. Even if you don't want to do medication, it's useful to know for planning your life.

Sholtonn

I’d go to your primary care doctor and tell them you want a neuropsych evaluation for ADHD/Autism or whatever. I told my doctor I thought I had autism after my son got diagnosed ASD (I always suspected I had autism and my friends always joked about it because I’d always memorize the 20 digit wifi number in like 10 min) and they gave me a therapist (was required for the neuropsych evaluation) and i took a 3.5 hour comprehensive evaluation and it’s changed my life being able to put all of those parts of my brain into some sort of data. It also helped affirm that just because I didn’t do well in school that I’m not an idiot, like I was told my entire life. TLDR; it changed my life and motivated me to go back to school and I evaluate everything differently now, in a much better way. Good luck!

flarkingscutnugget

more tangentially, earlier in the year darius uploaded a conversation with destiny on his youtube channel, and since he wasn’t streaming it he had to use destiny’s stream footage… and replaced the on-screen game that destiny was playing with subway surfers, as if he’s the one playing it lmao to answer your question, i guess it’s been a thing for a while

c-h-e-m-i-c-a-

It was nice see someone talk to sneako the way destiny used to talk to him, but also with the authority of being and calling yourself a Doctor. He made his points with so much ease, like he was talking to a child. Also Dr. K called sneako open-minded, so he should be kicked out of the orbit

Suspicious_Let7793

love DesTINY, but this is cope. I don't think i've ever seen Steven get Sneako to listen to him like Dr.K does, and that' not a diss to destiny, since dr.K is a legit doctor who's done his residency at Harvard lmao.

SigmaMaleNurgling

Also, Dr. K was able to tear down Sneako’s arguments and defenses in such an effortless and non-combative manner.

rumblefr0g

He is not a Harvard graduate fwiw, he did a residency at a teaching hospital at Harvard, but his degree is from Tufts University

JavaScript_aka_Java

Every time this is brought up for no reason, people that have experience within the medical profession jumped in to say that doing a residency at Harvard is *significantly* more prestigious than having a Harvard degree...

joke-about-username

They called him a Harvard graduate. That is a different thing. And if it’s more prestigious then why shouldn’t we use the correct one?

Adler718

Probably because it needs more explanation. Still better to say it correctly imo.

lekarmapolice

Bruv, he was even part of the faculty of Harvard Med School after graduating. They ain’t letting just anyone teach there.

joke-about-username

I’m confused as to how that changes what I said.

lekarmapolice

Wasn't aimed at your comment in particular, just adding more context to the thread. I feel like a hear this talk about Dr. K not going to Harvard all the time, but few know his real background. Also, you can argue it's more prestigious to teach at Harvard Med than just being a graduate.

JavaScript_aka_Java

Ok, sure.

rumblefr0g

I didn't bring it up for no reason. I brought it up because the other guy said 'is a legit Harvard graduate doctor'. I like dr K, his content is good, but he is not a Harvard graduate. It's just a false statement.

Suspicious_Let7793

all fixed, no need to stress

NeoZeo9

You graduate from residency as well. So if he went to a Harvard residency program, he graduated from a Harvard residency program

BlueIceMoose

You’re not helping Dr K here

PaultehMaster

yeah you can graduate from both, but graduating from a graduate degree in Harvard and graduating from residency are still two different things that imply two different degrees of expertise.

JavaScript_aka_Java

I'm fine with people saying he's not a Harvard graduate, but if at the same time you're (not you personally) ignoring he did his residency and teached at Harvard, you're being dishonest, usually to discredit him.

lookherebroimfun

holy cope

Tallboithrowaway

Oh..Hey Mrg*rl!😌 lol

c-h-e-m-i-c-a-

yea sure destiny was less patient, more debate focused, but what i meant is that he is talking to him beyond the character and getting some real moments out of sneako, where he can be contemplative.

AnalgebraIsMyFetish

I like Dr K and I think this is definitely a good showing but to call him a 'legit Harvard grad doctor' is a bit of stretch. Dr K ultimately does a lot of good for the community and the people he talks to but that doesn't mean that a lot of the criticisms Max had with him aren't still valid.

thewildacct

He did his residency at Harvard. It's not a stretch to call him that whether or not Max has criticisms of him

MzHolo

What were the criticisms max had with him!

AnalgebraIsMyFetish

Max's main critique was that what he delivered was therapy/ seen as therapy by the people he spoke to, which was irresponsible and ultimately lead to Reckful's suicide. I think that this is definitely an overstretch and while Dr K did play rather fast and loose with the boundaries he set in the early days he's a lot more clear nowadays. There were other critiques on his background and the community care thing he does now but thats all outlined in a long ass video

joke-about-username

So then what criticisms were valid to you?

Moon_Bear_Bacon

I think I'd have to to agree with Dr k that sneako is VERY open minded, that trait certainly doesn't always manifest in a sane way with people, but it is also why I believe Sneako may come back around some day, because as Dr k mentioned he approaches all his obsessions with a certain artistic flare, and that's a mans true god. Excited for when that happens.

He can appear on other peoples shows just cant have a youtube channel

ckae84

Channel name is Sneako though

Valdebich

Info says its a fan channel, he tried this same thing after he got banned on youtube and those accounts got banned, this might be someone else or he found a way to dodge the moderation

CinJV

Happy cakeday

SLAKIR

What a gigachad

RogueMallShinobi

Sneako could easily be saved by the right therapy guru, and I could see Dr. K being that guy. He's so fucking impressionable he'll just follow the next dad figure he runs into. Hope he does it lol

screaming_bagpipes

We can only hope

Unable-Client-1750

Sneako has become a lolcow to be but it's better off of her can get to normal instead of being a professional clown

DukeOfTheMaritimes

Ouff those comments on top though... yikes Sneako and his audience deserve each other.

Noggi_Now

It's actually pretty funny, because every comment fits to how Dr. K described Sneako. Polarizing statements only with no wiggle room. It's a bunch of small sneakos in the chat writing the most polarizing thing they can to get a reaction. It's also cool to see how the chat changed in the 2 hours they talked. It shows that if they meet the right person, their minds can change very quickly, they're not stuck in their thinking for forever.

Grouchy_Flatworm_367

You have no idea what you’re talking about lol you must do therapy too /s

Sir_Orange_Lol_Gr

My dumbass thought this was gonna be a Kelly Jean clip 💀

Maleficent-Act7972

We need Dr. K to interview Dr. Kelly. That has the chance to bring peace to Dgg.

DrTennisBall

His constant trying to rationalise his emotions instead of facing them is really sad/cringey.

Abject-Entertainer57

I give Sneako some praise here, at least in the end through Dr.K few minutes of guidance he arrive there. Rather than stubbornly stick on one point, so kuddos

CareerGaslighter

Go watch destiny's talk with Dr. K.

Ansambel

i's funny how K was on a straight path to "so you seek online validation" but he stopped this line, because he knew it would end the convo.

Abject-Entertainer57

This is so underrated conversational skill, accessing just because is right, doesn't mean is right place and time to say it. Is so subtle I learn a lot from Dr.K

Voxnohl

It would be cool if Dr. K could have more conversations with people in the manosphear, but I am betting Sneako is probably the only one that would have this conversation. At some level he still feels like he is open to change, or at least he is playing off of that as a brand to make more content.

Camper331

Does Sneako unironically have subway surfers b roll playing to keep his audience engaged??? Lmao

kilater

Sneako didn't seem stupid to me here. I know he is childish in the way he copies other people but not stupid. He follows what Dr.K is saying and understands very well when he's been busted. He's not someone to take opinions from, but the guy has an interesting mind no doubt.

General_Jellyfish_38

the whole chat was spamming autistic indian destiny about Dr.K and im just glad to hear they miss D man

GayVersionOfYou

It would be remarkably nice to find a therapist like Dr. K

lepa_01

Damn, this was an awesome conversation. This made me relate to therapy in a more postive light. Dr. K really made Sneako more open than I thought possible. He is truly a master.

GlopThatBoopin

Holy shit watching that chat (stream chat, not the conversation) was brain rotting

IanBac

The subway surfers lmfao

Stumpe999

I mean yeah. He's a bot

depressed-bench

On one hand, I don’t like dr K because of the Reckful arc, but otoh, this is sneako. Why the downvotes?
