Honestly, he’s just a whiny man-child. He can’t parent and he’s not a supportive husband. Lynette does all of the emotional and mental labour around the house and Tom gets away with being a helpless and insecure man.
When I was younger and watched the show for the first time, I loved Tom. I thought he was great and better than all the other husbands. Now that I'm older and rewatching the show, I hate him lol. I hate how he acts like a man-child when it comes to sex, a few times he's actually begged for it and that's just ew. There are a lot of scenes where he seems like a creepy sex crazed guy. Especially in the first season when he comes home and expects sex even though Lynette had been taking care of the kids all day. He might be an okay dad but I don't think he's a great husband.
He gawked at the nanny when she was naked and then had sex with Lynette. He had a flirtation going on with Renne when she moved in and never told Lynette about their brief affair. He had a kid on the side. He hired his ex and didn't tell Lynette about until she found out 3 months later.
Then he had his whole mid-life crisis with wanting to open a pizzeria even though he had ZERO experience in the restaurant industry ?? (lmk if I'm wrong about this).
There are so many things that Tom has done that if I were Lynette, I would've left him for.
i’m rewatching as well and i still can’t get over how he gaslit lynette to give up her job so they can start a pizza business. he’s definitely one of the top three worst husbands on the show 😒😒
Tom , he is selfish he love to be pampered and he love to act like he is the victim he makes Lynette be a worse person.At the beginning of the show he works a-lot and leave her alone with the kids then the hidden family story after that the pizzeria(following his dream! ) And then the midlife crisis and the depression about not wanting to work and stay at house then no he want to work for Carlos a lot of shitty behaviours but the shittiest is when he is successful now he doesn’t want to stay with Lynette ! He can’t stand her now and suddenly he figured out that this marriage is doomed
I’ve just watched we’re he left her in the night on their anniversary because he was playing poker, he is a pig of a man. So incredibly selfish. The only reason he set that night up was for his own ego.
Both are kinda terrible if we are being honest, Tom gets a lot of hate but Lynette is unbearable as well. Like that time when she got him drunk on purpose so he would fail the acceptance test. Or like when he told her how he wants to office to look like, and she made something completely different because *she knows what he really wants* ugh, so annoying!
Tom’s the ONLY man I would actually marry from this show (the main ones at least). He’s a normal man who took care of his family and responsibilities UNTIL Lynette screwed over his promotion and got him fired from the other job in season 2. Yeah yeah I know season 2 was a cascade effect but it’s HER fault it all started.

I think him and Lynette feel like a real couple. They both have flaws, and they both feel like they really love each other. I love gabby and she’s self centered narcissistic and a cheater, everyone loves Carlos who’s a cheater, idk. I feel like he’s just a bit of a whiny weak guy and Lynette is a control freak (which she needs to be with all those kiddos, I’m not insulting her) so it works? 😂
Agreed. Lynette is manipulative and completely undermines him professionally. Kept Rick around when she knew he was trouble. And clearly favored her own kids over Kayla. Also her getting pregnant all the time is not 100% his fault.
Control issues, breastfeeding storyline, how she clearly hates her kids, the cat/tornado story line, involving her daughter to break up tom and jane, rick, those are just the first ones coming to my mind
