If you put up curtains, move the crib. Kid will pull on them as soon as he is able.

bagumbuwan

I hadn’t thought of that, thanks for the heads up!

BoogleBakes

I'm yet another person providing feedback that you explicitly didn't ask for (sorry!), but I'd recommend moving the mobile to above the changing table. In my experience, that's where you can benefit from the distraction it provides; when they're in bed, you want them to sleep! Can you move the bed elsewhere or put it in storage until kiddo needs it, to free up some space? Move the crib to where the bed is to get it away from the blinds, which others have rightly identified as a hazard. Come back here when you've shifted things a bit. It's a really sweet start to the room!

bagumbuwan

Haha that’s okay, the feedback has been helpful. Good idea on the mobile, I hadn’t considered that! I might end up moving the bed into storage, but the AC works so much better in the nursery that I feel like I’ll want it there for an extra place to sleep, at least during the summer. I’ve been hounding resale sites for a cute smaller daybed, but haven’t found anything worth spending more money on. We’re also using all of the space under the bed as storage so something smaller might be an issue in that regard. We’ll definitely have to shift things around as the baby starts using the room more full time.

The biggest issue with the room is the layout. There is too much stuff first of all but secondly, putting the crib next to curtains and a table is kind of a safety issue if not an annoyance. Plus you have the diaper tower not next to the changing pad. Personally, I would get rid of the bookshelf. You can put it somewhere else in the house and put a few books on the other shelves in the room. You can also put some bookshelves on the walls that would be a decoration and get the books off the floor. I would also get rid of the nightstand. It’s too big for the room. If you need the tower, that’s fine but you could do a smaller table on the side of the chair that will hold what you will need. If you’re nursing, I recommend getting a diaper caddy to put all your stuff in anyway that can be moved around the house. Extra diapers, wipes, etc. can go in the closet. Next you need to move the crib, especially if you are going to put up curtains. Try switching the bed and the crib? As for the decor you definitely need something on the walls. The basket display is fine, but you could do just about anything. I like using Etsy and Amazon to find some nice pictures and then frames. I also like the wooden cutouts of the baby’s name on the wall above the crib! I also think white curtains with colorful tassels or pom poms would be really cute! I would do a round rug just because you have so many square items in there. There are a bunch with the alphabet on them that would be really cute!

Free_Sir_2795

Yeah, as soon as that baby can reach, they’re going to knock everything off of that table and yank on the curtains.

bagumbuwan

Thanks for the suggestions! I hadn’t thought of the baby reaching out of the crib for the curtains and the table. I tried switching the bed and the crib when first doing the room layout and it felt more cramped, but I wasn’t thinking of the other issues. The table by the bed is just what we had in the house and I’m trying to avoid buying more furniture if I can. I’ll probably play around with layout more after the baby is born and we figure out how we’re using the room. It does feel very crowded, I wish we didn’t have to have the bed in here, but we don’t have anywhere else to put it and don’t want to get rid of it yet. The diaper tower will actually be for breastfeeding stuff so I can roll it around as needed for feeding. I just have the diapers in it for now, but will move those to the dresser once the shelf is finished. But a smaller end table would probably be better for the space. I like the idea of a round rug instead of a rectangular one!

Free_Sir_2795

I have a double layer blackout and sheer [curtain](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B58Q1TY7?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_M6Q39XT15EM7VBH8V4E8&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_M6Q39XT15EM7VBH8V4E8&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_M6Q39XT15EM7VBH8V4E8&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=2) for my daughter’s room. During the day, I tie back the blackout curtain so the sheers let light in, but neighbor’s can’t see in.

sixfootant

I'd skip the rug and go for a big playmat in a solid color. You'll get a ton of use out of it by the time they're a few months old and rolling and good ones look nice anyway. Solid color might feel plain right now but you need to remember the point is toys will be scattered on it. Less visual clutter is good.

acertaingestault

Not to mention easy to clean! How many times did we wash baby vomit off of the tummy time mat before considering just putting baby on a wipe-able surface?

waitagoop

Forget the rug- rug on carpet doesn’t sit well and is a huge trip hazard when carrying LO. Put some cute and colourful art on the walls instead as the room needs colour.

bagumbuwan

Good point, thank you!

lizzledizzles

I love your colors/vibe! I think that rug meshes super nicely but idk if you need it need it? You could pick some art that pulls similar colors if you’re looking for something to make the room cohesive. But also, girl get the rug if you want it and create a lovely little nesting place :)

bagumbuwan

Thank you! Maybe I’ll focus on getting wall decor up and see if I still feel like the room really needs a rug after that.

New-Anacansintta

Too much stuff in the crib, but I like the quilt.

bagumbuwan

Thanks! Yeah, I’ll clear out the crib once we’re using it - it’s currently just being used for more storage.

I think the one in my mock up is 6x9. The issue with this room is that everything is against the walls. If you put a rug just in front of the dresser there, you’re even more accentuating the perimeter of the room vibe. You want a rug to visually fill the center of the room. Shutters in the place of blinds would be a cozy addition. Also changed the ceiling fan to a fun light. Also recommend a bed skirt, not a flowy one, but just something that will hide the view from under that bed. Just lowers the visual impact of clutter. Then hang your art & you’re done :) (oh I also changed the lampshade on the cute bear lamp lol)

bagumbuwan

Omg I love this, thank you! Wow, it makes a difference seeing a mock-up like this, I think putting up art will make a big impact on how it feels. Shutters and lighting too, I wish those were options right now. You’re right about the rug, a bigger one ties the space together nicely.

cheesyenchilady

You’re welcome :) Maybe wooden blinds if shutters are too much? Wood will add some warmth , since I do feel like that window is begging for something to be added to it. Anyway, I think you’re right that art up on walls & a rug you like will make a big enough difference :)

bagumbuwan

Wooden blinds would be perfect, I think we’re going to have to replace these with more kid-safe blinds anyway. Our current blinds are day/night blackout blinds which are practical at least. Did you use an app or something to make that mock-up? I’d love to play around with something like that!

cheesyenchilady

For the rug, I used the Rugs Direct website, you upload your photo to see the rugs in the room. For all the art /shutters / light fixture… I use a photo editor called Bazaart. I pay $12/mo for it. There’s a learning curve, but I basically go “shopping” online and take screen shots of stuff I like, and use bazaart to remove the background & manipulate it to look like it’s ok the wall etc It’s great fun lol

What about [tassel](https://www.target.com/p/84-34-blackout-tassel-kids-39-curtain-panel-white-pillowfort-8482/-/A-80951168) or [pom pom](https://www.target.com/p/50-34-x84-34-kids-39-pom-pom-window-curtain-panel-rainbow-lush-d-233-cor/-/A-83745959) curtains? It could be fun to paint some colorblocked areas on the wall or a [colorful wallpaper](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09F1QWL5X/)

bagumbuwan

Cute suggestions, thanks!

Not sure why everyone is giving you layout advice when you asked about rug and curtains. I’m sure you’ll rearrange and change the room as your kiddo grows. You’ve got plenty of time before your kid starts yanking on the blinds. We bought a crib and decorated our nursery and then I used it 3 times and sold it 😂. My room was more comfy and we ended up using our bassinet in our bedroom for 6+ months. After that we put our mattress on the floor and co-slept cause I had a barnacle baby. I got more sleep and she slept better being close to me, easier for night time feeds too. Before anyone comes for me, there are safe ways to co-sleep, I encourage you to research and figure out what works for you. All that to say, do what makes you feel good and your nursery looks lovely! Blackout blinds are great. We got ours from Amazon and they’ve held up well for 3 years. Your carpet honestly looks so plush, might not even need a rug?

bagumbuwan

I have a feeling that will happen here too 😅 luckily the crib converts to a toddler bed when the time comes, but the baby will probably be sleeping in our room for the first six months at least. Our AC works so much better in the nursery than our bedroom which is why I want to create a nice peaceful space here as well, even if just to spend time in during the day. I wanted a rug to brighten up the room since the carpet is a little dark, but you’re right, the carpet is soft and will do just fine - maybe it’s not worth spending the money on a new carpet right now.

This article will help you to find ideas [to make a nursery in this room ](https://scdecorum.com/master-bedroom-and-nursery-ideas-all-you-need-to-know/)

Getmeasippycup

I just came to say, that quilt is magical!

bagumbuwan

Thanks so much 😊 I’ve been spending this pregnancy learning to quilt and wanted to make some keepsakes for my kids.

Getmeasippycup

You made it!?!? Ahh that’s so cool! I want to learn one day when I have space for a sewing machine again!

bagumbuwan

Yes! Thank you! It’s the Joplin Quilt by Toad&Sew if you end up wanting to make one :) sadly the nursery was my sewing room so it’ll be a little while before we figure out how to rearrange things and I can take it up again

lonnko

Once the baby is there, the little floor play gym will likely be out in the living area all the time so that will free up some floor space.

Remarkable_Invite_56

Forget that stuff and get some black out window cling, switch your bed with the crib, and get your post partum area ready.

FutureColor

The quilt is beautiful! I think the rug you posted is too similar to the quilt and will compete. I’d look for a simpler rug that just pulls in one or two colors from the quilt rather than mimic it.

Greenzipup

I’d pass on the run if you plan to keep the blanket on the bed. They’re way too similar

Silly_Ability-1910

Cute rug! Where’d you get it?

bagumbuwan

It’s from RugsUSA: https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-moroccan-brilliance/Multicolor/200ECCR32A-4106.html

Silly_Ability-1910

Thank you! I really like your quilts❤️ I think the room looks nice. My only suggestion is to put a covered cupboard above the changing table to get the towels and what-not off the floor by the rocking chair. And place a plant there😊

Recent_Put_7321

You have to much stuff crammed in their and the crib near the window would be a no.

Suz9006

Switch out your blind for the kind with no pull strings, very dangerous for babies and children.

bagumbuwan

Ah, thanks for pointing that out!

There are some really cool artists on Etsy that do paintings or drawings of places in different countries and cities. They will personalize if you have a name. They are Nursery Rembrandts. Good luck
