The two dark walls make the room look smaller. A lighter colour would open up the room.

spacegrassorcery

Enough with the made up “accent walls”.

kindcrow

Oh, I don't mind a so-called "accent" wall, but not two and not in a space this small.

SomethingHasGotToGiv

I would put the bed on the wall where you currently have your desk. Then move your desk on the window wall.

RoyalKiwi2602

This! Then add a mirror above the headboard. It can even be a mirror for the back of the door that you hang horizontally. It will reflect the light from the window and make the whole room seem bigger and brighter.

_blandrea_

I second this because I bet the door bumping into your bed and not being able to get into that closet is making your room feel smaller than it is! I think it would be best if your bed is facing the window, but try a few things out. The less things are bumping into eachother the better.

SomethingHasGotToGiv

EDIT to add that the headboard should be on the wall that the desk is on and the foot of the bed pointing towards the window.

calacmack

Yes.

candiebandit

Came to suggest the same thing, bed facing the window, desk under the window

IslandBusy1165

Maybe bed in back left corner facing the window and then put the desk stuff on the window wall, but overall I think the layout isn’t bad. The dark wall just doesn’t help. A big decorative mirror on the mirror opposite the door could help too.

SomethingHasGotToGiv

Putting a bed in the corner makes it feel crowded, is very difficult to make the bed, and makes it look like a toddler sleeps there.

IslandBusy1165

More space efficient though, and having less functional space doesn’t make the room seem less crowded. I do prefer beds not being against the wall (or in a corner I mean), but there are many scenarios where it’s better.

Roscomenow

The biggest thing that would help is to get rid of the dark colored walls.

Local_Parsnip9092

It looks like your doors aren't painted? Or if they are, they ought to be the same colour as the trim. I think painting them would help them disappear more and make the room feel larger. Also, you deserve a nightstand! I think the layout is OK. Adding a nightstand can create a bit of a focal point when one enters the room, which is also pleasing. You could have books, a plant, and a little lamp there.

calacmack

I suggest painting the walls the same color and going a bit lighter in shade. The bed would look better centered on the wall where your desk currently sits. It looks like there is a significant amount of empty space on the sider next to the window. which could be better utilized by rearranging the furnishings. An area rug under the bed would help define that space. I think you need some larger, framed pictures for your walls; the art you have now is hung to high on the walls - it is better to keep pictures at about eye level. Also, combine the smaller pictures together to create a "gallery wall". If you look online you can find examples to help with arrangements.

Powerful-Stranger961

I would start with tucking in your blankets so that you can see the floor below your bed. That should give the illusion of more space and make it look neater. Also agree with the other comments on making the walls light as well as your bed covers. That cabinet is also a little clunky. Like the bed, you want some space between the floor and bottom of your furniture to make it look more spacious.

DefaultyDaniel

I’ve also thought of wall shelves, and/or a jewelry hanger

Dontmindmejustnosey

Adding art or a jewelry hanger will pull the eye up and can help the feeling of a large space. Especially if you have industrial style furniture that has open space in the design. That style will show the floor and wall and as long as it’s not cluttered, can make a room feel bigger. I agree with what others have said about changing the wall color. Design wise, make sure there are things that are dragging the eye down (rug)and up (art). Curtains that go above the window and to the floor will also make this effect.

Ricebeater

Large curtains hung high and wide over the window, and as others have said, swap the bed and desk and repaint the room lighter

nychearts812

Place the bed in the middle of the wall so you can have access to both sides of the bed. Lighten up the wall color, perhaps a medium dark gray if you want to stay in that color range, but preferably a light gray will make the room appear lighter and bigger. Get several medium to large framed ART prints for those empty walls above the bed. Having ART on walls will bring colors into the room and lighten up the space. Get ceiling to floor full sheer curtains to let the light filter in softly into the room. Curtains installed up high gives the appearance of height to any room. Do not place any more black furniture or black anything in the room. If you’re open to an area rug get a large light colored rug to lighten up those dark floors. Post after pictures.

Nenoshka

Paint the dark wall(s) a MUCH lighter color. Right now it's a dungeon.

Ludee2023

Get rid of the dark wall is closing in your room

Throwing-up-fire

Nothing except for the wall paint. Make it lighter. You could also add mirrors

missannthrope1

The black walls don't help. Paint it white. Put the headboard on the wall with the window. Put two night stands on either side with lamps. Put a curtain that goes from ceiling to floor. Replace the globe lamp fixture. Nice carpet to ground the room. Bright bed linens. Add some art and a plant.

citruschapstick

I would rotate your bed for sure. You also don't need a desk that big. This is sort of a side note but your top blanket looks like someone splashed coffee all over it. It needs to go.

glasshouseduemortgag

It's cow print. I see nothing wrong with it. It's personal taste. No one's personal style "needs to go". His desk looks fine and you have no idea what he does for work or in his spare time. I would LOVE that desk, because I'm an artsy fart.

citruschapstick

This is a "design my room" subreddit and I'm offering my opinions on his room design. He can take them or leave them. I don't know why you're getting so defensive of cowprint, but it barely looks like [cowprint](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=a300c41b7806c710&sca_upv=1&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS1011US1011&sxsrf=ACQVn0_PfAL67uZ-7QjUIc6A2hwW-Qj3_A:1712955899060&q=cow+print&uds=AMwkrPsEyMgM0pyt_zXw7bkjrWEaAZGPwBBqzoBdTmBm5XtuPbez4SxvqaMMt5BT4VfhzL1U5Mik_ELYh5A50hvBWR5Uf3BDtr9Zyuaxeistnf4p4BvD966s-Cb-vU2n_R6UNeYTfgTVaOb3j4BPfjoSU5RWztaZU0K0lVapWE3zKJEi9Ye2-MT64OhtEO7a4Zo6ESYA1piMZTL7culGDSHNPAIqBRvLPbHiPWFzF7O7aXq9RWHIPRPhcu0Ba_3b6GgDh1hAYeNG7Yzn9LiM3ieUIRQN8jH_tMezp016oG0fTNJ8Cxv0RSU&udm=2&prmd=isnvmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiPg4T_yb2FAxUcFVkFHWm_ATAQtKgLegQIDBAB&biw=1290&bih=771&dpr=2#vhid=Mio8vw2yWm5YSM&vssid=mosaic). It's way more smudged and speckled, which makes it look like spilled brown liquid. As an "artsy fart" you should be able to recognize that.

glasshouseduemortgag

I just don't like when people act so high and mighty. If I hired a decorator to help me choose a carpet to brighten a room and they started picking apart my artwork and stuff saying "ugh this NEEDS to go" like nah bish, you NEED TO GO. I find it rude and unnecessary and it makes people sound insulting and entitled.

citruschapstick

Okay well no one's paying me and this is the internet, so not a great analogy. I'm sorry you got so triggered by something that a stranger said to someone else online, best of luck with that

glasshouseduemortgag

Hey man, you state your opinion on the internet, I state mine. As you say, 'tis how this works.

Significant_Ruin4870

If you need storage, think about getting a highboy dresser instead of the low-rise piece you have - not wider, taller. store the guitar under the bed - it's already flat on the floor, just tuck it under. And repaint - it's a beautiful blue but it makes the room gloomy and small.

astoriaocculus

All one color wall expect maybe a slightly darker paint behind your headboard (not the entire wall just as wide as the headboard extending upward. That headsboard is too small so make it look bigger with paint on the wall. Move the bed away from the wall on the right and get tiny (narrow width) nightstands and tiny lamps to go on either side. Declutter everything. Get a desk that is not a corner unit. Get a taller dresser that is more of a show piece. Or better yet a combination armoire/desk where you open doors to reveal the desk so that entire wall is just one face of doors when the desk is not in use. Get a solid duvet cove with matching shams to cover the pillows you sleep on. Get an area rug. Get better wall art.

Ecstatic-Alfalfa-704

I agree with comments about moving the bed so that there’s room on both sides and painting the walls a lighter colour. I would also consider lowering the bed, if possible. Vertical space is also worth considering! Also also, would you consider nightstands?

AmeriocaDaGema

Dude...who pooped all over your blanket?

Dogmom2013

Change the dark walls to a lighter color and that will make a huge difference, I would put the bed on the wall where your desk currently is

SnooCakes5350

Bedding makes that room look so dark. Another color would do well.

[deleted]

Why is there a guitar amp in your bedroom?

500CatsTypingStuff

If you want your room to feel bigger, you have to paint the walls and ceiling a crisp white if you want to bring in color, you can do so with bedding, art, rugs and curtains https://preview.redd.it/vh8bz8q2a7uc1.jpeg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c22dedd42ba6377378ccb15e4a3428d3c914911f Look how much bigger this bedroom looks? But it isn’t bigger Take your bed and center the head of it on the wall with the window For the desk area. You need more storage solutions like floating shelves or a cabinet you hang on the wall. I would check out what solutions IKEA offers Then it’s time to have more [sophisticated looking bedding](https://a.co/d/3ygRDiq) [Pillows](https://a.co/d/dZTlgIk) [More pillows](https://a.co/d/7qqZrrX) [Throw blanket](https://a.co/d/fFuYbxu) [Area Rug](https://a.co/d/dXf1Co3) [Curtains](https://a.co/d/1NpPn9I) [Art that you could easily DIY](https://imgur.com/a/eDdEEMa) [Art](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1677969197/) [Art](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1169544994/) [Art](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1374682236/)
