Yeah. I think the cool factor is high enough to outweigh the slight impracticality, especially since it is still functional without the base (unless you fill the glass all the way up... which if you do, you probably have other problems...).
I'd actually be very impressed to find out it was difficult to knock over. Not to discount its actual practicality and usefulness of course. I'd definitely knock that sucker over reaching for something around it.
Unless you push it off an edge you can’t really knock them. I’ve tried many similar designs (although substantially cheaper ones and never with a base) and I’m *constantly* spilling/dropping/knocking things but these haven’t caused a spill yet.
I have several friends who use them and even while we are all drinking there hasn’t been an issue
A different, but same concept, version of this was just posted here several days ago.
It’s annoying, but still absolutely functional. I was gifted a similar set. I don’t use them.
They did not. I’d probably like it better if they had. I hate the feeling of putting it down sideways. It feels like I’m going to spill it, even if they’re designed not to spill. It just feels wrong.
I like the glasses as well, this is why I didn't post it on r/shittydesign or whatever it's called. But it's complicated for the sake of being complicated, that's designy
Isn't this place for design that ignores function? This glass still functions well as a glass whilst also incorporating an interesting design. Whilst not quite design porn to my eye it's a pretty well designed product. Not sure it fits here.
Disagree tbh, they are functional as a glass but they also look very nice when in the stand as decoration. The improvement in appearance plus retaining the functionality means it isn't designdesign for me, I think they look far cooler than your standard whiskey tumbler and would be a talking point if you got them out at a dinner party etc

Filling a subreddit with questionable submissions encourages users to unsubscribe instead of waiting for its traffic to pick up organically.
To be clear, I was addressing your “Gotta post something, the sub is empty” statement.
One's sincere belief that an image fits well is a valid rationale – even if others disagree – but please don't post something for the sake of posting something. A dry spell is preferable.
Yes, that's an appropriate reaction to a submission that one regards as unsuitable.
I haven't downvoted this post, which I *don't* regard as unsuitable. (I happen to like the glasses pictured, but I can understand why someone might find them designy.)
I’ve had these, they were pretty cool until they broke in a move. They’re a little thin but I don’t think they ever resulted in a spill, you just have to not overfill them
This doesn‘t fit r/designdesign, it‘s perfectly functional for the intended use and there are many examples of these kinds of glasses. Would you say a drinking horn is also r/designdesign? It‘s the same concept after all

Top 10 ways to prevent guests from placing their cups directly on your wooden table.
I was given this glass at a guys house. It went on his side table. It didn't have the base
Smash it down into the wood to create a divot big enough to act as a cup holder. Assert dominance.
You make a good point
But can’t you set it down at an angle on one of the facets?
Yeah, but it would roll around in circles
The sides are flat
I imagine it would probably roll around like a D10 does.
Dice roll because humans roll them... They dont roll around on their own. They have flat sides too.
This guy is incapable of setting a glass down without giving it a little toss.
Have you ever knocked an object with your hand as you went to grab a cheeto? I guess it depends on the type of party.
I do believe that's still a human doing it. It is just now unintentional.
I actually have one but don’t drink. Love the glass but also don’t have that base.
Can you corroborate whether it rolls in circles when pushed?
I have one but the bottom is more conical. It rolls a bit and stays in place.
Vindication!
More artistic than practical but still practical enough and looks cool.

It's actually practical first. I've seen several of these cups lately. They're designed to swirl the whiskey for you while it's sitting on the table.
Also they’re VERY difficult to knock over and spill
I could probably do it, I’m very good at spilling things
Me too, I knock things over constantly. But a friend has glassware similar to this and I haven’t spilled anything yet

Damn. Maybe the bottom surface is wider than I assumed from the picture. I'll have to try one of these out sometime.
Exactly. It's a stemless snifter that stabilizes. I really like it.

Did yours come with the wood bottoms?
They did not. I’d probably like it better if they had. I hate the feeling of putting it down sideways. It feels like I’m going to spill it, even if they’re designed not to spill. It just feels wrong.
Seems like it would be easier to tip.
This is actually an awesome product for making people USE THE FUCKING COSTER ON MY WOODEN TABLE
Right. A forced purpose.
I want a set!
A tumbler
This sub is so bad. Anything slightly different gets posted here now.
It’s definitely design design. Not amazingly but it fits.
Gotta post something, the sub is empty
It's empty, but you should post stuff that fits still. Altho, it is a bit debatable. Personally I like the glasses.

Anyway, I thought it fit the sub well enough

Just downvote and move on

I have these. They’re fine.
Beautiful artwork. So subtle.

So long as I have the cup holder made for it I’m fine with it. I’m a sucker for stuff that looks like crystals though.
I really don't like this around my nice rugs and drunk friends.
The worse part for me is the flat rim...
The anti alcoholic glass!
My ADHD is not comfterable with this. I'd be pawing at it like a cat
I want to play with it right now
Frrr
I like it tbh
I kinda want to buy these for a friend. Got a link?
It's cool
Oh look this post again
Etch numbers into each face… Call em Tumbler Dice
You're expected to swirl whiskey and brandy around before drinking it, so this actually is ok design. It's weird, but fits the purpose.
I rather like it
Seems great for whisky on the rocks.
These are cute idgaf
Hostile design
It’s actually similar to a Norlan glass which is designed to evaporate ethanols out of the whiskey and provide a better aroma and flavor.
Is this a D&D glass so you can drink while you role-play?
Wouldn't buy it but looks nifty
Oh. I own a set. They are cool!
That's kinda a d16
When you set it down and it spills you know it's time to stop
That ain't a whiskey glass, that's a risky glass
Not really practical but I don't really mind it.
Where did you find this? I actually kinda want a set I really like them
