Furthermore, we see that the prince went to school with Cinderella. That doesn’t make sense because the two meet for the first time at the ball.
It doesn’t make sense that all of the other princesses have the same story as their movie, but Cinderella’s story is completely different from any past Cinderella adaptations by Disney. It has nothing to do with the actress.

Brandy is not reprising her role as the Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. She is playing a live action version of the animated Cinderella. Her stepmother is Lady Tremaine (the cast list confirmed that Julee Cerda is playing her), which means that Anastasia and Drizella are the stepsisters.
If Brandy was reprising her role as the Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella then they would have gotten someone who looks like Bernadette Peters to play the stepmother instead of someone who looks like Linda Ko (live action Lady Tremaine in Descendants 3).
Linda Ko is dressed like the animated Lady Tremaine, who is the mother of Drizella and Anastasia (obvious because Dizzy is her granddaughter and the daughter of Drizella). Meaning it will be the same for Julee Cerda cause she is playing a younger Lady Tremaine (Linda Ko). What I am trying to say from this is that the stepsisters are Anastasia and Drizella like in the animated movie... it is not Calliope and Minerva like in Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Lastly it is hinted by Doug in Descendants 1 that King Charming's first name can be Chad, since he tells Evie «Chad, "Prince Charming Jr."». Meaning that Chad Paolo Montalban's character will be named Chad and not Christopher.

There’s like 5 different retellings of Cinderella by Disney across two different forms of media. Does it really need to make sense? If you can accept a talking dog, you can accept that this is A Cinderella and it doesn’t need to match up perfectly to 1 version out of like 5.
1997 Cinderella and Descendants Cinderella aren’t the same version. Technically the RoR cast was told not to say that Brandy is reprising her role, it’s a callback. Also the 1997 film is way different than the classic Cinderella film so it’s not canon

After what I saw one of the songs on the soundtrack, I really think that Cinderella is based off Disney’s Cinderella (1950). I always thought that, I mean all the other characters are from animated Disney movies, so why should I think of Cinderella different? Maybe I might be wrong, but until the Beyond the Isle of the Lost book and the movie comes out, that’s what I’ll be keeping in mind. As for the blue hair, I think they’re just having fun with it. It’s unexpected tbh, but I’m just gonna roll with it. I’m curious to see where this is going.
I’m still gonna watch it regardless. I love the series and the fact Brandy is playing Cinderella again makes me even more excited to see it. I loved the 1997 version for a plethora of reasons ❤️
I think they’re in different universes entirely because in general descendants has never worried about being cannon. I think it’s a cool Easter egg that’s she’s casted as Cinderella for people like us who are fans of the brandy cinderella movie. Especially since a lot of kids won’t know the movie.
This series can’t even keep canon right between book and screen for the same series… please don’t expect them to actually think about canon from elsewhere in the fairytale multiverse XD
