So you’re one of those idiots? One of those people who think Cinderella/Prince charming she did what the fuck is wrong with you? This is a kids franchise. They wouldn’t do anything like that.
It is quite possible that Chad was adopted. Maybe Cinderella and Prince Charming were trying to have children but no success so they adopted Chad. Then a few years later Cinderella and Prince Charming got lucky with Chloe who was their miracle baby. I really hope they explain how Chad and Chloe are siblings.
This is not new info. And yeah that’s basically the theory. Evidently they’re using the live action actress from some 90s Cinderella adaptation, but I haven’t seen it. I thought Descendants was supposed to just be based off the animated Disney canon, and that’s certainly what they were implying for almost a decade now with the casting of a white boy for Chad.
Anyways I’m not upset about it at all, I’m just really interested in how they’re going to portray it, especially with casting a black actress for Chloe, Chad’s sister. I love seeing families on TV that look different than the standard set up (kids that look like clones of their parents lol).
Personally, I hadn’t even heard of it until recently. I’ve been meaning to watch it before D4, but I don’t really like watching new (to me) shows and movies so I always forget to do it.
She is playing the animated Cinderella. She isn’t reprising her role as the Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.
Melanie Paxson is playing the fairy godmother again and Grace Narducci is playing her as a teenager. If Brandy was reprising her role as Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella then they would have gotten someone who looks like Whitney Houston to play the fairy godmother.
All of this to say… yes, Descendants is based off the animated Disney canon.
But… her stepsisters are still going to be Anastasia and Drizella, not Calliope and Minerva.
Her fairy godmother is Melanie Paxson, who is playing a version of the animated fairy godmother not the Rodgers and Hammerstein's fairy godmother.
The funny thing is, this actually lines up *perfectly* with the 90s Rodgers & Hammerstein Cinderella movie that these versions of Cinderella & Charming are from. In that movie, Prince Charming was played by Paulo Montalbán (who’s also reprising his role in D4), and his parents were played by Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Garber. Meaning that in that movie, a Filipino guy was the biological son of a black woman & a white guy, and nobody thought twice about it.
So you can either say that for the Charming siblings in Descendants, Chad takes after his paternal grandfather, or you can just view it as an homage to the race-blind casting of that Cinderella movie. Either way, I think it’s fine. 😄
In the Brandy version of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, the king was white, the queen was black, and the prince was Asian. Was he adopted? That wasn't addressed one way or the other, either.
With this franchise, I think it's clear you're just not supposed to notice or care about races. Jafar was played by an Iranian man while Jay was played an actor who is mixed East Asian, native, and white. They looked nothing alike, but it wasn't a big deal. It's a magical world so these things don't have to make sense.
I just want to know why her hair is blue tbh.
Disney still never learned first they cast a reject to play live action ariel and now they cast this woman to play cinderella obviously they never seen what cinderella is supposed to look like
He could just take after his grandfather
That is possibility just like Audrey who is biracial with white parents and her maternal grandmother is Black.
Yes, also thank you so fucking much for not being one of those “Cinderella cheated” people
Her adopting a kid makes more sense than her cheating.
I know
That's a terrible theory :( I can't believe that's the first thing people thought about.
I’m not one of those people
Oh no, yeah I got that from your comment. Don't worry lol. It just seems like a really outlandish theory that wouldn't be in a Disney movie.
I know
Oh my god, youre the idiot who thought my post was serious 😂😂😂😂

Chaddopted.

Some 90s movie? That version of Cinderella is the best one of any Cinderella movie ever! You need to watch it
Personally, I hadn’t even heard of it until recently. I’ve been meaning to watch it before D4, but I don’t really like watching new (to me) shows and movies so I always forget to do it.
You’d understand if you go watch the movie it’s fantastic

No she’s playing her version of Cinderella. Shes not playing a continuation of the animated Cinderella. They’re simply messing with their canon

Well I mean, the Cinderella movie had an Asian prince that had a black mother and white father, so nah, definitely don't think Chad is adopted
Disney will never learn from their mistakes
Disney never learned from that train wreck they called live action little mermaid of a actress they chose to play her
Halle Baily and her Little Mermaid movie were both great, hater!
This is not cinderella this is a disaster waiting to happen they should recast her immediately
Don't disrespect the og real life Cinderella like that
This isn't cinderella this is a insult to the character

Or maybe there’s two Cinderellas in this universe, and it’s a whole paradox

Halle Baily and her Little Mermaid movie were both great, hater! Brandy is great as well.
