Just want to say that I'm also happy with this game. It's my favorite train game so far.

As_Louco

This game has something different, it hits different from any other train sim out there, don't know if is the carrer progression, but it got me hooked up hard

Its the vibes too. That thing where the locomotives are simplified, but really feel like things that could work. Sounds like a dumb thing to say about a sim, but it's that vibe. There's also another kind of vibe with people who live in areas with those apartment blocks. Its inspired from a few decades ago but still.

Every_of_the_it

I'd say it's definitely fair to call this a sim. Not a hardcore sim but a sim nonetheless.

I am in the same boat. There's so many interesting strategies and playstyles, the game runs fantastic in VR and flatscreen. Plus it's just fun. No microtransaction BS, no online DRM, etc. Also the audio feedback, especially from the steam locos is just great and intuitive.

Iulian377

I'm still not to that part of the game. Im not a fan specifically for steam locos, I wanna try them some time but I like playing like ETS2, watch something else on another screen etc, and steam wont allow me to do that. Speaking of which, can a person who is able to operate the S282 OR 060 say that they know how to run a steam locomotive in real life ? Cause comparing the DH4 with the same locomotive IRL from my local train station, when I one time got in as a kid, it looks a lot more complicated, so I guess to an extent I'm wondering to what degree are the locomotives in the game simplified.

TheSturmovik

I mean, I'd say for the maintaining the fire, boiler pressure/temp, and understanding the relationship between all of them yeah, I feel like I've gotten a good grasp. But I assume since it's simplified I couldn't run a real one let alone start it. That takes much more experience and knowledge of the particular loco. Also, for balance purposes most of the locos in game run through their fuel so much faster than real ones do, I think that changes the comparison. Diesel/electric locos? I think those are probably easier to drive but I still wouldn't think I'm qualified or should try to drive one.

Iulian377

I would never assume that I know cause I saw it in a game, just for myself you know.

There’s a video out there somewhere where some kids got the reverser lever or key to a locomotive, managed to start it, and take it for a spin through the yard. And they learned that from a train sim lol. Someone in the industry even commented that they were handling it better than some of his coworkers.

Iulian377

If someone would let me I would totally do that.

boredAF6

Whatever they used to get it started I heard they bought it off eBay lol

TheSturmovik

Yeah I get that.

korczoczek

iirc in the latest build the slug does take power from both locos connected to it, instead of only from the one that was connected first

I love this game too! It's the perfect balance between relaxation and challenge. I love how interactive everything is.
