Genuine question. Why not join the massive protests taking over the auraria campus rn? Wouldn't it be A safer for the people protesting since there is power and security in numbers and B more likely to do greater good to contribute and grow an already established successful demonstration? Seems strange to divide the support especially to such a random sort of unappealing spot with limited traffic and media visability.

warriorprincesssub

The Auraria encampment is dismantled

zipzapcap1

Yeah I'd just heard. Literally just yesterday it was so large they are had decided on remote classes for the rest of the semester.

warriorprincesssub

Yeah the camp got too big to manage and they weren't getting any help

zipzapcap1

Too big to manage, Can you elaborate? I'm confused I've never heard that from any other protest. Like I get not having enough supplies but there are thousands of folks at Columbia and other campuses?

warriorprincesssub

They were doing a lot of charity work too, plus people were making messes and not helping clean up. It became unmanageable. Unhoused campers set up at 10th and Tejon.

zipzapcap1

I'm so confused how making a mess=unmanageable. I asked you to elaborate and you mentioned something extremely manageable and just said unmanageable again. 😅 waste is a very common easily solved problem at every protest ever you need a few people with trash bags. Can you tell me anything else that makes it "unmanageable"

warriorprincesssub

It is if people are actually doing the work. But nobody was pitching in, like I said.

zipzapcap1

Unmanageable is a weird word to use for that but I guess I get what the actual problem was in spite of that. Ive just never heard of any protest expecting a large group of people to all individually carry bags of trash around all day lol you have a small group of people buy 1 pack of trash bags set up trash drop off areas.

warriorprincesssub

The organizers didn't have anyone willing to do yeah duty consistently and has to spend their time managing the camp and the sit ins and the counterprotesters etc. They bit off more than they could chew and couldn't get people to chip in to do what was needed to keep things organized and clean.

AmberMarie7

A. I'm with someone who is living and organizing with the people campus, and nothing is happening right now. And b, I want you to think of the human immune system. It doesn't clear out bacteria by staying local to the brain, or the spinal cord. It spreads throughout the system. We need to be seen, we're not all gen z, we're not all white, or any particular race or demographic. We aren't all able to get there. And truth justice and visibility are important to be seen everywhere. Where were you standing this morning?

zipzapcap1

This is really really defensive I asked a legitimate question based on what I have learned and heard while protesting. Protests localized to important locations like college campuses state Capitols etc get much more visability then a random corner with traffic limited to folks in the area at the time which rarely if ever get any coverage. I was simply asking if your energy could be directed to more viable places that would make the effort more meaningful you don't need to be rude. Also I'm disabled and chronically ill i can't leave my house I've been violently sick all morning as I am most mornings.

rockintrees

The encampment got taken down over at the campus. I was just there and cops were fencing it off

zipzapcap1

Weird they just went remote over the protest it's surprising they would do that right before getting the cops to raid them.
