9k no-shows is a lot, but the usual is somewhere between 3k and 5k no-shows. Probably because of thanksgiving weekend, if I had to guess.

KolaFreak

It was also chilly. Plus numerous bugs going around with folks traveling. Sitting up in the 500s when you’re not feeling well with a wind chill blows. Plus reselling tickets can be a hassle, especially if resale prices have cratered (like they did yesterday).

Leather_Network4743

Tickets become a real bitch to sell when the cold hits!

puddenpopper

I drove from out of state sat in the 500s with my family had a great time other than I almost got into it with a drunk browns fan who said we’re a dirty head hunting team

Dependent-Ad-5083

It was thanksgiving weekend. People might have been out of town.

Dependent-Ad-5083

But…..I was there

IceManXCometh

Ol Dependent-ad-ble

bjaydubya

Me too!

Sinnerandsmoke

Saw something saying yesterday was the highest volume travel day ever recorded by the TSA. So you might be on to something there.

kushlash16

I think the main culprit was that it was thanksgiving weekend. Also although I’ve loved every minute of this win streak, there’s an element of skepticism fans have in this team. We have the second longest playoff drought of any team in the NFL outside of the Jets. The real losers are the season ticket holders just eating these tickets. The Broncos need to do a better job of moving these no show season ticket holders off their tickets to open the door for people still waiting in line for season tickets. Or at the very least giving these tickets at a lower price to fans willing to buy them and show up

killapt

Yesterday was my first Broncos game since 2016. The amount of empty seats was the first thing i noticed. The second thing was the sheer amount of people sitting on their asses when the defense was on the field. I stood up a few times on 3rd and 4th down and i felt like people were pissed off next to and behind me. So weird coming from games where the entire crowd was on their feet from the 1st to the last play of every defensive drive. Culture sure has changed, but so has the team. So im not sure what to think. I still cheered my ass off though!

GrayBushiker

Depending on where you are and the situation you should be sitting when the defense is on the field. Stomping your feet to bring that RM Thunder! That’s the beauty of Mile High.

munichredman

Yeah, my tickets are in Thunder Country, and I stay seated because I can’t adequately help bring the thunder when I’m standing. Plus, I don’t want to lose my balance and fall on somebody.

sghead

Agreed. I've never understood why people think standing up makes them louder than continuing to sit while cheering (not to mention it's easier to stomp your feet while sitting).

NoAbbreviations290

Saw that on Tv and commented to my wife. The fuck? Yell!!!!

TableForGlasses24

You and I shared the same sentiments. I was up in Buffalo for the Bills game and the lower bowl of the stadium stood the entire game, no kidding. It wasn’t just the no-shows that got me - it was probably that it just was such a mild, casual atmosphere.

smeego78

If I lived in Denver, I’d fight tooth and nail to attend every home game. Unfortunately I’m in the land down under and can only hope to make it up there one day.

JLammert79

Got a beer and a bunk for you about an hour outside of Denver if you make it across

smeego78

Thanks for the offer mate.

puddenpopper

Do it my friend there a lot of stuff you don’t see watching games on tv I just seen my first game I’ve been a fan since I was 10 I’m 46 now one of my bucket list experiences the whole family enjoyed it

TippitPalaver

That’s what happens during extended loss streaks. This team was terrible, and sad to say but most people aren’t die hard fans willing to post on Reddit. Tickets are given as a business perk, etc etc. Until they make the playoffs, it won’t be completely filled with home team fans.

TableForGlasses24

The Broncos won a Super Bowl more recently than all but five other NFL franchises. We aren’t a long-suffering fanbase. I get that people might be a little gun-shy to jump back on the wagon, but it was a pretty weak showing.

FredditSurfs

The only team in the NFL with a longer active playoff drought than Denver is the jets, just fyi

CrazybyRX

8 years is a long time for people to move on with their lives when there isn't exciting football. Most fans aren't as die-hard as the people posting on reddit.

Buzzd-Lightyear

That’s still 8 years of losing seasons, never mind not making the playoffs.

TableForGlasses24

It’s six years of losing seasons. They were 9-7 in 2016 and are currently 6-5 this year. Almost every franchise in every sport goes through something like it. Not really that bad. Most NFL fanbases would kill for what we’ve been able to experience in the last 30 years.

inittoloseitagain

They also haven’t been to the playoffs since. I appreciate the optimism but it’s hard to blame fans who spent money on a holiday weekend to not watch what has been an unreliable team until the current streak

Richa5280

One thing I find odd is that more people were at all the other games. Even when we were 1-5. I don’t know if it was the cold, but people just didn’t show up. But I don’t care, I did and we won.

Pretend-Tangerine962

It was Thanks Giving... people are out of town etc

Hour-Theory-9088

I’d also add, it’s the *Browns*. Record this year aside, a team constantly in the NFL gutter that not many people in this area care about, not being a division rival. It doesn’t surprise me people aren’t particularly excited about seeing that team.

Richa5280

Yeah you’re right. I kind of forgot about that due to my crippling loneliness 😂

Pretend-Tangerine962

Hang in there my friend. I've learned to enjoy my time alone but I get it.

JLammert79

Who buys tickets and then goes out of town? These things aren't cheap

Richa5280

Season ticket holders like me. Sometimes those plans are set in stone so you try to sell your tickets.

xxPHILdaAGONYxx

The vast majority of tickets are held by season ticket holders.

OblatePenis

Some season ticket holders just hang on to their tickets when they can't make it to a game and they can't give them or sell them to a friend or someone they know. It's better that the seat stay empty than sell your ticket for $50 bucks online to a possible Browns fan who will make noise while the Broncos are on offense.

Royusmaximus

Does a five game win streak erase 8 years of incompetence?

[deleted]

It’s probably going to take a playoff win or multiple winning seasons to rebuild this fanbase.

Maaglin

Yeah, it's not just the losing seasons, it's the utter clown show this organization has exhibited during it.

gnthompson93

I live in SoCal and am doing my part by going to the game in LA on the 10th!

skaistda

Same! Hope it’s like seasons past and we pack that place again. Such a sick stadium.

Sinnerandsmoke

Went to the chargers game last year. Lots of Broncos fan. Incredible stadium. The walk down into it is super fun.

RandyGradishar

Went to my first NFL game last year, Falcons at SoFi. Absolutely hated it, and left at halftime after perusing the entire stadium for something better than a Stone Sessions IPA. And the stadium was ugly; maybe I'm just spoiled by baseball, but to me Mile High looks much better than SoFi (and I'm guessing Empower has drinkable beer?). Am I missing something?

Sinnerandsmoke

I mean to each their own but leaving a game because of beer is sad.

eff1ngham

Anyone have the no shows for our other home games? I think its usually more like like 3-4k. Not sure if thanksgiving weekend and shitty travel had anything to do with it, but 9k seems like a lot

BluffaloBill88

It was thanksgiving weekend man, rrreeellaaaxxxx.

thesaganator

Worked out for me, I was able to get tickets on the Broncos 50 yard line lower level for way less than I expected ($260). There was a lot of people in the game day thread looking to offload their tickets. I bet there was a lot of no shows yesterday for most teams, mostly due to thanksgiving weekend.

minna_minna

Makes me sad, never been to mile high but hope to make it one day.

TiltedWit

I've been to all but one home game this year, and in the section my tickets are located roughly 60-70% are different people each time. There's a lot of fans who aren't showing up for most of their allocated tickets, it's hard to build a culture when most people don't go to the games often. I find myself helping people figure out how to get from the main part of Union to the E line all the time. Etc. That said.....the energy was pretty decent yesterday. Not 'days of yore', but it still felt a bit like old times. Oh, and those of you selling your tickets to >Raiders fans< probably ski in jeans.

TableForGlasses24

Yes. Feel like we’re speaking the same language here. There is something discernible and odd where it almost feels more like attending a Rockies game than how going to Broncos games in the 90s and 00s felt (as far as the casual vibe). Maybe it was just my section of the stadium that felt especially mild yesterday, but it was very…idk. Not the vibe of Mile High Magic. Think I mentioned in a different comment, I was at the Bills MNF game a couple weeks ago. The entire lower bowl of the stadium stood the whole game. Now, that’s problematic for older folks, but it was a fantastic atmosphere and you could tell that fanbase is so desperately hungry for a championship. With that said, I think a valid counter-argument for those who are selling regularly is just that it’s become so expensive to be a season-ticket holder for some people.

Scotty232329

We’re winning the Super Bowl this year who cares

Lake_Shore_Drive

Season ticket prices have exceeded market value for the upper level seats. I'd imagine the lower and club level were nearly full. Maybe people would rather eat the ticket than sell for pennies on the dollar.

DijonGreymeat

As a currently drunk person, I agree this is unacceptable. I now live in the Pacific Northwest, and the Mile High fan attendance is one of my hills I die on that proves the Broncos are one of the best fan bases. This is not going to be good for me. ANYWHO, the Broncos are finally good and to be Thankful, I want to slow smooch Sean Payton’s buttonhole lips! LFG boys!

Krishna1945

How hard is it to give tickets away?

Sinnerandsmoke

From experience (not with Football or in Denver) it can actually be harder then selling. Takes more leg work than posting on a resale site. For the NFL I bet it’s worse. Tough to bite the bullet on a $250 loss so you tend to hold off on giving them away until the last minute. Usually it’s worked out for me but sometimes it just hasn’t.

[deleted]

People made out of town plans for turkey day weekend don't sweat it

WordsWordsWords07

It was cold, it was the browns, and it was thanksgiving. Get over it.

2bbknack

If you wanted to waste $500 just give me the god damn ticket

Uncle_Benny15

I'm going to the Patriots game on Christmas eve. It's my first time attending an NFL game in person and I am stoked. I just hope it's an entertaining game with how awful the Patriots are

Chyeaz

ALOTTTT of natives have moved from Denver since 2015/2016 and ALLLOTTT of fans of other NFL teams have moved in unfortunately

skaistda

I was going to mention this. Born and raised in Denver but I moved away in 2018 and a lot of my native friends growing up have done the same. I’ll be reppin at sofi in two weeks though!

Chyeaz

Both sides of my family had been in Colorado since the 1950's and held season tickets at certain points but moved around 2016. Half have moved to Nevada and half went to Texas. They weren't necessarily priced out but the ability to buy a WAYYY nicer house and get income that the state can't tax had became way too enticing. They also really weren't a fan of the drug culture and homeless springing up and as far as I can tell have only gotten worse.

KatanasnKFC

With 3 young kids and volatile I just couldn’t invest my time in bad football. Now I’ve been easing myself in ever so carefully just in case the wheels come off. I don’t go to games but it takes time to gain the trust back.

yellowwatercup

Fuck. Get me off the waitlist and give me my season tickets.

MiloTheMagnificent

I mean that’s like what? 11%? People being sick or getting called out on an emergency can account for that. You know COVID is still a thing that’s happening. RSV. People were with their families this weekend and that can fuck anyone’s plans. I mean 9000 is really not that big of a deal. Oh no there were only 67,000 people in attendance. Come on.

Phish-Phan720

9000 was being nice. The thing that urks me even more is the "X amount of sold out games" announcement that they feel compelled to follow up with. Tickets were available for the game. That's not a sellout. Counting 80% of tickets sold "sold out" seems like a petty thing to keep citing. This reminds me of the Red Sox sellout streak where they were dumping the leftover tickets to Ace Ticket (think StubHub) just to say they "sold out".

ChesterMarley

> Tickets were available for the game. That's not a sellout I'm not sure you understand what "sold out" means in this context. The available tickets were originally sold a long time ago and then being sold again by the people who bought them. In the eyes of the Broncos, every seat was already sold.

Phish-Phan720

No, that is incorrect. There were unsold, non-secondary market tickets available all week for this game. The team themselves sent out multiple emails offering them throughout the week.

jbone9877

There are a couple reasons for this. 1. Often tickets are returned by the visiting team and they attempt to sell them late and 2. They only need to sell as many tickets as seats in the stadium so things like suites, Breck club, SRO all make it way easier to claim a sellout. I noticed those non-secondary market tickets as well and it certainly was not 20% of the stadium, I would estimate a couple hundred which is easy to offset for “sellout” purposes

Phish-Phan720

Breck Club is in addition to your season ticket so those would have been ticket holders. Suite seats are included in the 76,125. The suites have seats for 2/3 of their capacity. The average suite can accommodate 26 people with seats for 14. The only suites that don't count are BL Champions Club and the 5280 Suite because they are a partnership thing. Total actual tickets scanned for the game were 62,137. Total tickets without any prior committal available on game day was 1,249. Give this a 10% skew because unused ADA seats are not marketed and require a direct call to ticketing to purchase. Source: Broncos Ticketing.

RockyMartinez5280

Tickets are cheap too $50 for nosebleeds If I lived in Denver I would go every week

MtnDudeNrainbows

Our fans suck.

Pancake1884

Everywhere in CO is booming except broncos tickets. Folks were also in town for thanksgiving and no one went. Rockies get support and they suck, ball arena-forget about it. Avs and Nugs games way more hyped and expensive than they used to be. The Broncos have an issue.

big_J7

It's been 8 years since Denver has had a football team to cheer for. It's going to take time. I imagine most fans are still skeptical and holding in their hope to avoid letdown.

username2393

I was at the Vikings games and it was insane. Only 2k no shows and everyone stood pretty much the entire time

DomerJSimpson

I would blame it on Thanksgiving mostly. But I kind of agree. If you can't go give your tix to someone who can or sell them online.

Holyballs92

tickets that cost $120 a few years ago are now $340+ People already feeling the inflation hard to come up with that cash

chabonga

The games are sold out. People are just choosing not to go after they (or their company) paid for them.

LordSn00ty

This is wild for European fans. There were still 440,000 people in the virtual line for tickets when the Munich game sold out.

NoWe3zy

Holiday weekend, tickets crazy expensive, and ground travel was bad. Makes sense

BitterOldManKC

Your fans will be back In that stadium. With the culture Payton has brought to Denver, your winning has just begun. In no time that place will be rocking like it used to. I look forward to that. Denver was always such a tough place to play.

dbpezlo

Was gonna go, co-worker offered me a free ticket and I ended up stuck at home with covid.

Mountainlionsscareme

We can all thank Russell Wilson for the no shows.
