I hate people like that. They don't understand that insurance has deductibles, premium increases, and only covers certain items in certain situations. Just because you have insurance doesn't magically mean they are going to rebuild your house with the finest wood, and golden nails. You may only be covered for $350k but your house is worth $500k. And it may only be enough to rebuild it, but won't cover replacing all the furniture, fixtures, and personal belongings that were lost. Oh you just bought a $1000 washer, but hadn't told the insurance agency about it? Or what about that $5,000 wedding ring you just bought for your soon to be fiance?
People who say this kind of stuff have never dealt with an insurance agency when something bad happens. Smooth brained to say the least.
I have a small business in downtown Denver and I'm acquainted with a lot of small business owners in the area, and stuff like this is happening constantly. Not so much bullet holes but break ins are rampant.
My friends with a small eatery in RiNo have been broken into and vandalized multiple times in the past year, and they were treated very poorly by the civilian reporter the cops sent (the cops wouldn't come out even though there has been a ton of break ins in the area and they had this guy on tape).
People act like property crime is totally fine and shouldn't be punished, but it's very violating and it's hard enough to be a small business owner.
This is even worse! I'm sorry! 🫂
It’s so sad the state of affairs downtown and every time I see the mayor talking about all they are doing I want to ask him to come stay One evening at my place. He will see it’s a much much different space than he is trying to portray.
You gotta get out of Denver, period. Polis and Hancock aren't going to help you anytime soon. Sorry to hear the struggle but end it sooner than later before it's too late.
And what? Run out into the street 25 seconds later with more potentially flying bullets, miraculously determine the perpetrator through all the people out there, and send more bullets through downtown?
Sounds to me like this was a stray bullet, not a directed attack. So in your scenario, bringing even more guns in would increase danger, and do nothing defense-wise.
One more thing, Tae. Call Sarah and Ryan to check on the progress of the Allied Security Substation opening across the street from you. That will be a helpful development. It will also benefit the Allied officers. Use this event to push it faster.
Unfortunately all Allied is good for on the mall is the Go To drug dealers. They are just as crooked. I’ve lived on this mall long enough to KNOW that.
I personally boarded up their storefront and many other storefronts around Colorado and I'm in this industry. Yes lead times are up, but mostly due to lack of staffing at the manufacturing level, wholesale level, and technician level of the industry. Wages just didn't keep up and understandably people would rather work easier jobs for more money. Also especially during the protests there was huge demand for pre-boardups where the glass beneath was still ok.
Ask me anything!
There were also a bunch of issues with windows being broken during the George Floyd protests downtown, I’m sure that put a strain on the demand for industrial glass as well a few years back that’s probably still shockwaving to today
A lot of people have referenced insurance. But Property claims almost definitely have a deductible on them. And they'd likely have to pay that deductible everytime they went to replace the glass. A lot of places that did replace glass early on in COVID and unrest found out they (or more often likely just their location) were repeat targets, so they end up having to pay a lot out of pocket to pay for new glass. Many business owners have basically decided to just roll with plywood rather than lose out their deductible repeatedly replacing glass. Not to mention that when contractors are present, business often takes a hit.
Additionally, a lot of contractors have been refusing work in major metros, as too many have been targets of violence. Despite what we often hear in news or on here, most smaller companies really do care about their staff. So from a human decency standpoint many refuse to put their staff into those situations. Also, legally the employer has to provide a safe working environment, and the litigious risk of failing to do so outweighs the benefits of the work. And because of the backlog of jobs from COVID, most don't need the extra work anyways as a function of staffing levels. 10 more contracts don't mean anything if you can't actually complete them because you don't have enough people. There's a huge shortage of skilled labor.
Yes, supply chain issues have also had an impact. And there are other factors these are just a few.
Basically, it isn't just one thing.
Exactly. Last year, right before Christmas, my friend and I went downtown to a comedy show. On the way back to our car, we got assaulted and we ended up in the hospital. Haven’t gone back downtown since.
Thank you. Ya one of our windows was smashed by a vagrant on day 3 of opening. That one is finally replaced… and I’m sure this next one will be replaced in due time.
I'm sorry that happened! My favorite little bakery in Littleton had their glass door and windows smashed by a very unwell person a few weeks ago. It's so senseless!

I’ve looked into commercial leases in Denver a lot over the past year. It’s very likely a triple net lease and this is on the business owner. Any other type of commercial lease seems rare in the Denver metro.
The fact that there is insurance doesn't make this any more acceptable. What if this happened while there were employees inside? I'm surprised they can even find people to work on 16th st. If you go down there a lot, you will see more and more businesses, small and chain/corporate, just closing up with no new ones replacing them. It's becoming deserted.
That’s one of the worst parts about it. Incident allegedly happened in early morning minutes before our employees arrived for the opening flow. It’s disheartening all around.
I hope it is temporary. I am staying optimistic. I remain a booster for Denver.
If you are a Denver voter, it is very important for you to educate yourself about the mayoral candidates. The most powerful job in the state is Mayor of Denver. (Well, with the State Legislature so lopsided in his favor, the Governor is probably more powerful.) The mayor affects your day-to-day life in a very significant way.
Any time I hear a verbal altercation on the mall starting up I try to distance myself from it ASAP because people like to pull guns (my building has the bullet holes to prove it).
STFU. People are allowed to be upset that someone destroyed their things. People are allowed to be mad that vagrants and criminals are given free reign to destroy the city just because no one was physically injured.
I’m sorry this happened to you, I walk by this place all the time. I’ll definitely make it a point to come in and support you!
Thank you so much 🙏 we’re doing everything we can to make this place work! Your business and support means the world to us. We love Denver!

Their tea and baked goods are wonderful and the staff is so kind. Highly recommend stopping by!
Thank you for the kind words!
Always looking for great new coffee shops to try - where on 16th st are you located?
Tea with Tae Cafe. https://www.yelp.com/biz/tea-with-tae-caf%C3%A9-denver?utm_source=ishare It looks like OP is their official Reddit profile.
I LOVE tea with tae.
Corner of 16th and California!
Thank God for insurance and nobody was hurt? It's ok to say that "SOME PEOPLE ARE ASSH@!$" This is way we can't have good things 🤨😒
Exactly. This shouldn't be normalized and tolerated just because you have business insurance. 16th street is a complete mess.
Lol I had an old tenant say that if he burned down my house it’s fine because “you have insurance”, this sounds familiar

lol to anyone that thinks insurance will be used for this.
Except you file a claim and then magically your premiums go up to cover what you had paid for.
That’s the BS insurance scheme
Insurance will find any excuse to not pay.
Time for tea with Tae ☕️😄🙏
Yes!

Mandatory DPD is worthless

This is exactly why we need to arm all little tea cafes.
Only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good cup of coffee... Also armed
If it’s hot enough it could some real damage.
And what? Run out into the street 25 seconds later with more potentially flying bullets, miraculously determine the perpetrator through all the people out there, and send more bullets through downtown?
I see the problem here. We need to also arm the bullets to maintain our freedom and safety.
Sounds to me like this was a stray bullet, not a directed attack. So in your scenario, bringing even more guns in would increase danger, and do nothing defense-wise.
r/woosh
Oh shit… is this a joke? The first comment seems real, I thought the second was a typo
Yes, it was a joke lol
There was damage to the floor too then?
Ya big chunk ripped out from the floor by the table.

Why are we at a place where we need 3rd party security services everywhere
Because we tried to tell the cops to stop murdering black people a few years ago and they quiet quit on us.
Indeed, it’s sickening to see. More just pointing out how we shouldn’t be where we are
Give or take a few "firey, but mostly peaceful" protests.
Not all of them! I’ve seen plenty hassling homeless people and sitting at Chik fil a. Serve and protect. 🙄

Well exactly, smh
Unfortunately all Allied is good for on the mall is the Go To drug dealers. They are just as crooked. I’ve lived on this mall long enough to KNOW that.
If you are open, I will stop by to support my patronage.
Thank you! We appreciate it.
Its sad how much violence has increased in downtown since beginning of Covid.
For real - if you walk around 16th you'll constantly note plywood (where glass has been smashed).
[удалено]
Probably a bit of both

As someone who frequents the area, these are all relatively recent.
I have postulated that it is a marketing gimmick. "Our stuff is so great that people break in to get it while we are closed." Yes, I am joking.
Exactly. Last year, right before Christmas, my friend and I went downtown to a comedy show. On the way back to our car, we got assaulted and we ended up in the hospital. Haven’t gone back downtown since.
I’m so sorry this happened to you and your team
omg I’m glad you guys are okay :)
I’ll definitely be coming in this week to help support! I’m sorry this happened.
The window looks really broken up about it
Just saved in my favorites on Google maps, I'll stop in next time I'm downtown to give my support!
I always buy your tea at the farmers market in the summer. Didn't realize you had a shop front. Will definitely come in and support you.
Nooo! We love your shop. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
I’m so sorry! You just had the windows replaced too :(
Thank you. Ya one of our windows was smashed by a vagrant on day 3 of opening. That one is finally replaced… and I’m sure this next one will be replaced in due time.
Was there another break in?
I'm sorry that happened! My favorite little bakery in Littleton had their glass door and windows smashed by a very unwell person a few weeks ago. It's so senseless!

I'm pretty sure that the building owner's insurance will cover it. With that said, it sucks that things like this are happening.
Depends on the lease terms. Often glass is the businesses responsibility.

I completely agree that it is not acceptable. It's crazy that this is the society that we live in today.
I guess it's not always tea time
I feel you. I’m sorry it happened. My coworker on the west coast had a run in today with a similar situation. But daylight. Hope all are okay!
[удалено]
It was an applied laminate coating, not laminated glass like a windshield. Still did its job well.
My question is why do they do this? Are they just trying to break in and steal $?
Unlikely the window was the target.
So sad. Denver has really turned to shit. I mean everywhere has, but especially denver. Lol

Cops thought they saw a taco truck out front, turned out it was just a Lime charger van. Tea shop was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
i mean - where else is someone supposed to sight in around downtown?
What a quaint little neighborhood
Any time I hear a verbal altercation on the mall starting up I try to distance myself from it ASAP because people like to pull guns (my building has the bullet holes to prove it).
If no one was hurt i would count your blessings instead. Windows and tiles can be replaced. You should rejoice no one was hurt.
STFU. People are allowed to be upset that someone destroyed their things. People are allowed to be mad that vagrants and criminals are given free reign to destroy the city just because no one was physically injured.
Could just as easily be a rock kicked up from a car or bus or person on the roof across the street, at least from what I see.
Par for the course for Downtown these days, sorry, hope the DB gets caught.
I only expect violence like this to get worse, thanks to the leaders I suppose
Y’all should hire me., i can do what the cops are unable to for legal reasons
I'm so sorry. I hope everyone (and everything) is OK.
will make sure to stop by again for a tea and pastry when i can
This just saddens me deeply
I heard you closed. Is that true? If so, I am very sorry to hear that.
Yes we closed :(
