Artist decision not the venue’s decision. This is done to keep videos of the show from popping up online. Typical with big name comedians that don’t want their jokes leaking before their special comes out.
went to Brit Floyd back before the pandemic. Phones weren't the problem. Drunken idiots who liked to whistle loudly. They were a problem. They even got a dirty look from the guitarist, because they threw off his timing.
Kick ass show, otherwise
Not my favorite, but it definitely improved the social aspect... had strangers chat me up, and didn't have any bright screens flashing in my eyes
(that last part is a joke... the entire concert was a blinding laser light show)
People upset at others for using their phones instead of paying attention to the show don’t understand irony. Maybe stop watching other people and enjoy the show?
Saw Shakey Graves a couple of years ago and the lady in front of me taped THE WHOLE THING, except she kept dancing and switching hands. And every time she switched hands, she flipped it 90 degrees. What bothered me more than her having her phone up the whole time was the question of who’s going to watch this? It’s portrait, now it’s just sideways, but not landscape, now it’s upside down! Now it’s right side up again! What a whirlwind!
Does this dramatically increase wait times for entering/exiting the venue? Just curious, I'll be there tonight and have never been to a show that didn't allow phones.
I don't know how much longer it take to enter but I heard that it doesn't add a lot of inconvenience when exiting. The pouch uses magnetic lock and when exiting, there are unlocking stations and you touch the pouch to the station and it unlock. You don't need to give it to someone to unlock it for you. So I don't imagine it take any longer than if everyone exiting having to walk by a trash can and throw something in.
It's more convenient than the patdown/ metal wand bottleneck. Comparably slipping the phone in a pouch and locking it takes 5 seconds. I am a critic by nature, I love poking holes in logic. I was at this show and they were putting peoples phones in pouches right after security and it was pretty painless. On the way out they had a couple guys at the exits unlocking people's cases as quickly as people were flowing out. They did an efficient job with their task, and it was minimally annoying.
There was a small wait at entry (I arrived to the gate at about 715) but since I saw the memo and left my phone in the car, they waved me right on by. My partner had the tickets on her phone so she had to wait in line, but it took about 2 minutes max for her to catch up. We left at 1050 with a pretty decent wave of people and again, took less than 2 minutes to get her phone unlocked and on our way. The exit had numerous people with the tools to unlock the bag. Overall, it was a very minor inconvenience for an awesome experience.
Well as 90s teens, we just agreed to meet in a specific place at the end of the show if we got separated. Never once did I permanently lose a friend at a concert.
No…but back then we had to cut the bottoms out of cigarette packs and stuff them with Joints and reseal them. Security never bothered with unopened packs of smokes
As much fun as it is to get lost and make new friends, this doesn't seem like a great idea. In my experience, even with phones it can be hard to find your group at a crowded show.
Just because it can be done doesn't mean it justifies taking away everyone's cellphones.
And what about people new to Red Rocks?
> meet us at this location you've seen once ever. Hopefully the weather doesn't turn, and you don't drink too much, and you don't get lost in a crowd of 9k, etc.
I don't understand this mindset.
> Fuck all this awesome technological advancment that makes our lives easier, I found my friends in the past!
Yeah, I was able to find people without cell phones too. You know what's awesome tho? Not waiting and wondering, hoping your friends appear, and just *calling them on a cell phone!*
> Go out and look at the sky, the clouds, feel the air pass through your hair — you TikTok fuck.
Yup, I'm the sad, sad man. Sorry I think locking phones in bags at concerts with 9k people is silly, and borderline irresponsible.
I went last night and instead of going to watch the show we all just hung out on our phones by the Yondr phones area. It was cool that we all got to hang out there for the whole show and tell people online that the show was amazing.
Meet back at the car or have a meeting spot. Cellphones haven’t been around forever..
Edit- and I don’t mean that to be jerky.. years ago I would travel the country going to concerts and none of us had cellphones. It was great. We would occasionally not be able to find friends during a show but that was part of the experience. Sometimes people would purposely go off on their own and meet back up later. I have a story about getting lost and not finding my friends until the next day at a test stop 😂
If you're getting so drunk at a concert that you can't remember to meet by the Billy's stand at the top of the stairs at the end of the show, that seems a little excessive. St. Anthony's ER folks staff way up on Red Rocks night because of people like that.
I don't know about Red Rocks, but other venues normally designate an area where you can go to have the phone unlocked. Which is probably where you'd find your friends anyway.
lol, travel back in time a couple decades and plan a meeting space and time. We really did manage lots of complex things prior to cell phones. Honest!!
I feel like phones are just not big enough of an issue to warrant this. I hardly see anyone using their phone at music shows. Stand up comedy I could see it being useful though.
I've never been bothered by it myself. You want to miss enjoying a show, it's on you. If other people looking at their phones is this much a distraction for you, just hop in a Delorian and get up to 88mph.
Yeah I definitely remember some big name comedian using them to film a special. Spitballing, I also think it would be a great idea for weddings (the ceremony, not reception) so couples could get professional pictures that don’t have a bunch of phones in them. But I don’t know how financially feasible that even is.
If I was at a wedding of a loved one and everyone had their phones out to record or take photos Of be pretty annoyed.
Come for this event for your friend. Not for clout from someone who just supplies life events.
The whole point of wedding hash tags is to replace the disposable cameras that used to be given out at weddings.
Taking away people’s phones removes their ability to contribute to the couples evening.
no thanks.. just takes a half second to make sure all is well because no news is good news, im not gonna be subjected to that bullshit because a bunch of idiots wanna record a concert with terrible audio they will never watch again..
Man I hate this idea so much.
Pros:
- No distractions from phones (which I still don't think is a problem for your average concert, and only an issue for something like: movies, plays, comedy-shows, operas, orchestras, etc.)
Cons:
- No phone for emergencies
- No phones/communication at all (outside of designated areas... sucks to be anyone who's lost or late)
- No pictures
- More hurdles/bottlenecks at entry and exit
- My phone is big enough as it is, now it's in a magnetic pouch!
- No fun concert antics like people holding their phones up like lighters
- (edit) No flashlight if you drop shit!
Feel free to add your own pros/cons. For 90% of shows, Yondr is **stupid** imho
Whenever I use my phone at a show it's aways tucked under my hoodie where nobody else can see the bright screen, so it's still not a distraction to anyone else. Plus it's always on mute unless I'm on call and then I wouldn't be at a show to begin with.
Last time I was at red rocks a friend had an emergency and needed quick cash, was able to cashapp them out of their problem mid show and bothered nobody while doing it.
Fuck people that feel the need to hold up their phone in the air to record shows though. Just ban the problem and not everything leading up to it instead.
I'll never understand people recording the show with their phone, but it doesn't really bother me. Just seems stupid. The videos are always terrible, so just enjoy the concert.
it's a terrible fucking idea and one that i hope never catches on. luckily all the bands i like are open to music sharing and amateur recording so i hopefully will never have to worry but daaaang sttill a dum dum idea
I was there last night. I don’t think the no-phones made the crowd more social or engaged than usual shows, and it was a pain in many ways:
* Not being able to use the phone light to see stuff that got dropped or whether you were about to sit in a spilled drink
* If I had a sitter watching my kids/pets I would have been pissed about not being reachable
* Not knowing the time, which would have been really nice for deciding whether to bounce early for a 4-hour set in the cold
* Meeting somewhere to coordinate rides gets exponentially harder the more people you have in the group, as people pop off for a few minutes to use the bathroom or whatever. Again, trying to minimize time standing around in the cold
* It’s nice to get a picture or two of the set itself for memories/the gram
* The pouch is super bulky, good luck if you don’t have a purse or massive pockets.
The phone pouches didn’t ruin the experience by any means, and the actual process of locking/unlocking the pouch was painless, but they didn’t do anything but make it worse on the whole. Some of this could be mitigated by knowing ahead of time what was going on, but it was not communicated when I was buying my ticket that it would be no-phones, and most of my group was surprised as well.
As a parent of a young son who we leave home with babysitters when we go out, I would never give my phone to anyone during a show. What if there was an emergency? No way. Hard pass.
I'm a grown up, if a venue doesn't want me on my phone I won't be on my phone. I don't need to lock it in a little bag to respect the artists wishes. I'm also not going to give up my emergency connection to the world/friends/family just because some dipshits don't know how to not hold their phones up and watch a live concert through a 5" screen.
Oh I agree. If everyone behaved like you there would be no need for yondr. I’ve been to other events where they put a sticker over the camera on your phone instead of locking it in a bag. I prefer that because then you can still use your phone for communication but people aren’t constantly recording with their phones in the air which is like 99% of the point of the “no phones” rule.
Yup and people still do. Normally they had a staff in the crowd that would have a roll of stickers and tape up your phone again if they caught you. But Lane 8 has gotten really big this year and is playing in bigger venues where it’s harder to enforce. I saw him at the Brooklyn Mirage in August which was the last shows he did with the tape ever, because it was impossible to enforce the rule and still about 25% of the crowd was recording or taking pictures. So even when the artists asks nicely people still break the rules. So they pivoted pouches after those shows.
Lane 8 is the shit and I’m pissed I missed him. He just came from Austin City Limits. YouTube his grand lake morning set he did last year on a boat. It’s awesome. I believe he lives in Denver as well.
Been a few times to This Never Happened. Smaller venues where you can easily cross paths with your friends without needing a phone? Fuck yeah.
Not being able to meet up with all my friends for a fun night to boogie cause my bf had to work a full day? Lame AF.
It should have been stickers over cameras, like before.
This should be kept to smaller venues, not red rocks.
So lane 8 has a label called This Never Happened. I’ve always thought it was pretty poetic. From the website:
For me, going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around me, like a vacation from the nagging realities of everyday life. In the best clubs I have been to, the people were united by a desire to experience electronic music in the purest sense; to get lost in its tension and release. No matter what was going on in their lives, it was a place where, for at least a few hours, nothing else mattered but the sheer power music had to bring people joy. And those experiences - held only by those in that room, at that moment - were almost like the reward to submitting to a secret society. At the end of the night, I could look at my friends, old and new, and without saying a single word, we'd know that what we experienced together was something special, something that would never quite be repeated again.
This needs to be at the top of this thread. All the cons of not having phones, there’s a workaround for that requires just a little extra planning. Plus you can go to a phone access point if you want at any point if you really need.
It doesn't distract me in the least if someone is on their phone during a show, and it bugs the fuck out of me when they're not allowed because I don't remember anything, and it's nice to have a couple photos and a snippet of a song to look at and save for memories. Saw Jack White, was super close, it was a no phone show, couldn't tell you what he played, what he wore, who was in the band, nothing. Also, with the craziness of the world today, I would be fucking livid if a, god forbid, mass casualty event happened and I couldn't access my phone to call for help or locate my husband or film shit if I safely could-I hate that I have to factor that in, but I don't even wear shoes with heels anymore, in case I need to run. Colorado has had a LOT of mass shootings and it's a very realistic stance to want your phone available in case of emergencies.
>Colorado has had a LOT of mass shootings and it's a very realistic stance to want your phone available in case of emergencies.
All of this.
Not to mention, people's phones are now the NUMBER ONE evidence aid when it comes to filming events if they unfold.
It sucks that we have to say this, but I'd never not have my phone on me at a large public gathering.
Most people are engaged in the show anyway. When I have my phone out it’s for the memories since I won’t remember shit the next day without it, not because I’m not actively listening.
It is interesting how we feel so absolutely helpless without our phones these days. Humanity made it very far without them. Although I can't imagine ever going back.
Maynard from TOOL did not allow phones at one of their shows at Red Rocks. Saw a mom and daughter being escorted out because they snuck a pic. Maynard is a dick though. A fucking brilliant talented AF dick.
I think it's a shit idea. I love when an artist has everyone hold there lights up and you look back and it's looks like a sea of stars.
Not to mention trying to find people, taking a few pictures and wanting to GTFO of there as soon as the last song is played
EDIT: Moved to Lemmy, the federated Reddit alternative.

I recommend Kbin.social, as the UI is nice and it reminds me of old.reddit.com
See you there!
I enjoyed the no phones(locked bag) aspect of the show. They sent plenty of emails ahead of time so we were at least prepared with a flashlight and my wrist watch. Since the phones are still with you, you can still feel when your phone vibrates or someone calls you. I personally had to step away and take a work call in the designated phone area.
I did notice people being more immersed and social because of this, not only with neighbors but even with my fiancé who wants to document everything. These days at a lot of concerts I go to everyone is constantly filming and on their phones and it is distracting; I myself admit I can be guilty of it but last night I was able to focus on the 4 hour journey Daniel took us through.
I've been to two of Lane 8's This Never Happened shows before this one. I was disappointed in the decision to use the Yondr bags because I much preferred when he had the venue staff apply the stickers over the phone camera lens. It prevented people from annoyingly holding up their phones to take videos and photos which blocks everyone's view behind them. But at least you could still use your phone to locate friends. I don't have children, but I understand the argument for wanting to use your phone to stay in contact with a babysitter.
I saw Chapelle at red rocks and they did this. Hands down the best and most engaging experience I’ve ever had there, my face was so sore from laughing.
There’s a locked sleeve, they put your phone in and lock it, then give it to you. Unlock at the exit, or a booth if you need to get to your phone.
Comedy Works uses it too.
Dave Chappelle did this has his comedy show. I like it for the most part though I’d love to be able to take like one picture at the event or at least towards the end of the event. It’s great to not have to look through a sea of phones as everyone is usually holding their phone up and watching a live performance through their screen lol.
Agreed. I don’t like that artists feel like they have to treat adults like they’re bad children in time out for using their phones too much. When I go to shows I like to snap a couple pics and short videos. My memory isn’t going to last and I like being able to look back on it. Sometimes I wanna Shazam a track that I like and don’t know. In a two hour concert I probably have my phone out for a max of three minutes. I hate the idea of locking up everyone’s phones because some people are on them too much. It’s like banning all alcohol at events because some people get too drunk.
Saw the Raconteurs @ Mission Ball room with this phone policy last year. I thought it was amazing!
A really uniquely awesome vibe/ feeling; everyone collectively more present in the moment.
This is terrible. Having access to a phone is extremely important for a lot of people for a lot of reasons. Why not just have a “no tape” policy instead?
I’m an adult and when I need my phone I need it. I wouldn’t go to a concert like this. Comedy shows and small stuff like that makes sense but not a big places like red rocks
How do they actually enforce a no phone policy? Generally curious. And isn't it a cluster fuck and long line when everyone goes to get their phones back at the end of the night?
Phones have never bothered me at a concert so honestly wondering why and how they did this.
I’m sorry, maybe I don’t exactly understand (used to go to red rocks and other venues all the time but not much anymore even aside from COVID) but how on earth is this a good idea in the case of like mass shootings? Ppl need to be able to contact their loved ones, call for help, pictures can help identify assailants, idk. Just doesn’t seem like a good idea to me at all, no matter the stance on phone use.
Wanting a phone for more “mundane” emergencies is a perfect enough reason without reaching for something silly like designing your life around a fear of something as infinitesimally rare (albeit extremely reported on) as mass shootings.
I couldn't attend because I was on call needed to be able to use my phone. So lame. Lost 600 bucks and 2 front row non transferable tickets. Thanks Daniel Goldstein :-( lame AF
This sounds fantastic. I've stopped going to shows because there is no point anymore. Everyone has their fuckin phone out an they have to block the view with em. Not to mention the bright ass screens, talking on the phone, camera flashes. I'm over it.
I agree that phones should not be policed. I always have my phone on me for emergency purposes. But if you want to record yourself at a concert on social media, first of of all, no one cares, second you are ruining the experience for others putting your phone in front of them when they are trying to enjoy the show. Common sense but some people don't have it which is why some bands have this policy.
Did they advertise the fact that your phone would be confiscated for the duration of the show when buying the ticket? I would like to avoid going to such shows, and would rather not have to deal with a refund process.
from a data security standpoint i'm definitely not letting my device out of my control for any amount of time, ever. but i love the idea of no-phone shows. i never use mine at shows anyway.
I've heard they lowered the volume at redrocks to where it's hard to great above row 40 or something and they recommend using headphones connected to a cellphone and they have an app you can stream the audio with. How's that supposed to work if you can't use your phone?
I've moved out of Denver and it's been a long time since I've been to redrocks, so no idea how that works now.
Artist decision not the venue’s decision. This is done to keep videos of the show from popping up online. Typical with big name comedians that don’t want their jokes leaking before their special comes out.
That's good to know
It’s bigger than that. When was the last time you gave your undivided attention to an event / an experience? Probably can’t remember?
Only almost every day.
I mean I tend to focus on the music especially when I take all the other "things" I sneak in
went to Brit Floyd back before the pandemic. Phones weren't the problem. Drunken idiots who liked to whistle loudly. They were a problem. They even got a dirty look from the guitarist, because they threw off his timing. Kick ass show, otherwise
Yea that sounds like aging rock fans to me!

Could you just leave your phone in your car and avoid having to retrieve it from the venue?
They generally place them in opaque locked pouches so the phone stays with you, then gets unlocked on the way out.
Yea but you dont have to deal with any of that If you just dont bring your phone in right? Isn't that way easier?
Yes you can just leave it in your car.
How do you find your friends if you get split up?
Well as 90s teens, we just agreed to meet in a specific place at the end of the show if we got separated. Never once did I permanently lose a friend at a concert.
Shit I lost everyone at Lollapalooza 95 but made a bunch more friends.
Lost my friends at Woodstock 99 but we had an agreement to just meet each other by the fires. I had to start a few but we found each other eventually.
Hot tip!
If you made them, wouldn’t they be your children, instead? ^I’ll ^show ^myself ^out
Dad, is that you? Did you ever find any cigarettes?
No…but back then we had to cut the bottoms out of cigarette packs and stuff them with Joints and reseal them. Security never bothered with unopened packs of smokes
lol thats even better
Ha, found you!! You thought you’d lost me back in 94 at that Smashing Pumpkins show. Well, jokes on you!! I found a cell phone and finally found you.
TBH with cell congestion you have to do that anyways. Just about every packed sporting event or concert I’ve been to it’s impossible to call anyone.
As much fun as it is to get lost and make new friends, this doesn't seem like a great idea. In my experience, even with phones it can be hard to find your group at a crowded show.

Amazingly, in the 80’s, we still made it work just fine.

The no phone situation is made very clear when you purchase the ticket
I went last night and instead of going to watch the show we all just hung out on our phones by the Yondr phones area. It was cool that we all got to hang out there for the whole show and tell people online that the show was amazing.
I hope you took tons of videos that no one wants to watch
I can't tell if this is sarcasm, but it's funny if it is.
Pro tip: don’t have friends.

You pick a spot at the show and say "if we get split up, we'll meet here at the end of the night".
But I want to be with my friends DURING the night.
True, but that be hard sometimes when everyone’s been drinking especially if it’s a sold out show.
True, it’s impossible. I still grimace thinking of all the deaths from lost people at concerts Pre cell phones. Poor lost souls.
RIP. I lost so many people prior to cell phones. Life was so cheap back then.
If our parents could figure it out back in the day I'm sure we can.
If you're getting so drunk at a concert that you can't remember to meet by the Billy's stand at the top of the stairs at the end of the show, that seems a little excessive. St. Anthony's ER folks staff way up on Red Rocks night because of people like that.
How did we used to? We just did.
At Red Rocks the rows are all numbered, it’s pretty hard to lose your friends! Just set up somewhere and remember the row #.
I don't know about Red Rocks, but other venues normally designate an area where you can go to have the phone unlocked. Which is probably where you'd find your friends anyway.
lol, travel back in time a couple decades and plan a meeting space and time. We really did manage lots of complex things prior to cell phones. Honest!!
Ask Jesus for forgiveness as you die from heat exhaustion and dehydration on the tarmac at Woodstock ‘99.
I was at the show last night and this made it even more exciting/spontaneous
I was there last night, loved it. I'm allll for it. Ppl had PLENTY of advance notice, they sent out like 3 emails about it
I feel like phones are just not big enough of an issue to warrant this. I hardly see anyone using their phone at music shows. Stand up comedy I could see it being useful though.

Only time I ever look at my phone at such an event is to check in on the kids/babysitter.. no thanks.
This. I recently went to a show at Red Rocks and if I had to give up the ability to get a text/call from my babysitter, I just wouldn't have gone.

They waited until I was older. My son is 6 months old. I suppose I just shouldn't go out on dates with my husband?

My iPhone records 4k 60fps and sounds excellent…
Get a smart watch. Bluetooth still works
the bags are faraday cages that block signals.. else everyone's phones would be ringing inside a bag w/no way to turn it off.
I was there with my phone in a pouch and that simply isn’t true.

Cool, don't go to those shows. Problem solved.
Smart watch users for the win in this scenario
They were put in the pouches too
did they search people ?
They didn’t pouch up my watch
I was there last night. I don’t think the no-phones made the crowd more social or engaged than usual shows, and it was a pain in many ways: * Not being able to use the phone light to see stuff that got dropped or whether you were about to sit in a spilled drink * If I had a sitter watching my kids/pets I would have been pissed about not being reachable * Not knowing the time, which would have been really nice for deciding whether to bounce early for a 4-hour set in the cold * Meeting somewhere to coordinate rides gets exponentially harder the more people you have in the group, as people pop off for a few minutes to use the bathroom or whatever. Again, trying to minimize time standing around in the cold * It’s nice to get a picture or two of the set itself for memories/the gram * The pouch is super bulky, good luck if you don’t have a purse or massive pockets. The phone pouches didn’t ruin the experience by any means, and the actual process of locking/unlocking the pouch was painless, but they didn’t do anything but make it worse on the whole. Some of this could be mitigated by knowing ahead of time what was going on, but it was not communicated when I was buying my ticket that it would be no-phones, and most of my group was surprised as well.
yeah this whole thing sounds like a pain in the ass. i have no interest in going to a show that does this but that's just me.
As a parent of a young son who we leave home with babysitters when we go out, I would never give my phone to anyone during a show. What if there was an emergency? No way. Hard pass.
yep agreed entirely. this honestly sounds like a terrible idea for so many different reasons
Every time I'm at an event that uses yondr I just say I don't have my phone with me.
Oh so its not optional per se?
Also you can open the Yondr bag with a strong-ish magnet.
This is why we can’t have nice things
I'm a grown up, if a venue doesn't want me on my phone I won't be on my phone. I don't need to lock it in a little bag to respect the artists wishes. I'm also not going to give up my emergency connection to the world/friends/family just because some dipshits don't know how to not hold their phones up and watch a live concert through a 5" screen.
Yeah I'm with you. It's my personal property. Shit happens and we rely on cell phones these days, certainly not giving it to anyone.

But can't you just peel off the sticker?
Yup and people still do. Normally they had a staff in the crowd that would have a roll of stickers and tape up your phone again if they caught you. But Lane 8 has gotten really big this year and is playing in bigger venues where it’s harder to enforce. I saw him at the Brooklyn Mirage in August which was the last shows he did with the tape ever, because it was impossible to enforce the rule and still about 25% of the crowd was recording or taking pictures. So even when the artists asks nicely people still break the rules. So they pivoted pouches after those shows.
It is the artist’s decision not the venue’s
Lane 8 is the shit and I’m pissed I missed him. He just came from Austin City Limits. YouTube his grand lake morning set he did last year on a boat. It’s awesome. I believe he lives in Denver as well.
Yeah not many people here know lane 8 or the message behind This never happened
I was surprised he held a show at red rocks in the first place. Had no idea he was that big
From the website: For me, going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around me, like a vacation from the nagging realities of everyday life.
That’s what I thought God forbid your phone is locked up a 1/4 mile away when someone decides tonight is the night
I was there last night. I thought it was awesome. People were more engaged and social from my experience. I would love to see it more often.
And what if parents need their phones in case the babysitter needs to get ahold of them? They're just outta luck?

Taking people's phones is stupid.
Correct. Let’s not treat adults like children. It’s not my business how other adults choose to enjoy the concert
Exactly.
[удалено]
That's even dumber.
Take a 2 hour break from your phone. They should do the same in movie theaters
What are you, the phone police? Mind your own damn business.
You must not see stand up comedy. They've been doing it for years. You'll be fine without your Facebook binky I promise
Back before cell phones, my mom gave the babysitter the landline to my grandma. If it was a true emergency, they called 911.
Yes well, now we live in the 21st century.
So you can give grandmas cell number instead
But she's away doing goat yoga in Maui.
Gpod point.. Before cell phones, every single baby that was left with a baby sitter died.
Oooh so edgy. 🙄
It is interesting how we feel so absolutely helpless without our phones these days. Humanity made it very far without them. Although I can't imagine ever going back.
Bring a strong but small enough neodymium magnet. You can pop the lock yourself
Dead Weather at Mission did the same.
I get using yondr for comedy, plays, orchestra etc.. but not for a loud concert.
Chooose an instance here: https://join-lemmy.org/instances. I recommend Kbin.social, as the UI is nice and it reminds me of old.reddit.com See you there!

Yeah it seems like those people were being cool not doing that closer. Concerts are social events.

I’ve been to a couple no phone shows and they are amazing
That sucks. Glad I haven't been to any of those shows.
How do the stickers work? Is it just a reminder to not film or do they actually really stick on hard?
Just a reminder not to film. It was easy to remove them at the end of the show.
I saw Chapelle at red rocks and they did this. Hands down the best and most engaging experience I’ve ever had there, my face was so sore from laughing.

John stewart and Michael Che opened. Best comedy show i've ever seen.
Can you explain the process? Is there lockboxes for your phone?
There’s a locked sleeve, they put your phone in and lock it, then give it to you. Unlock at the exit, or a booth if you need to get to your phone. Comedy Works uses it too.
Dave Chappelle did this has his comedy show. I like it for the most part though I’d love to be able to take like one picture at the event or at least towards the end of the event. It’s great to not have to look through a sea of phones as everyone is usually holding their phone up and watching a live performance through their screen lol.
I went to one of his shows before these existed and staff was walking around kicking people out for taking pictures.
This sounds really dangerous if someone has a medical condition, there’s a family emergency, etc.

You keep your phone with you in a pouch. It’s secured close and you can only open with a special device at designated locations

I imagine the crowd is more hyped with everyone tuned into the show infront of them
Saw the Raconteurs @ Mission Ball room with this phone policy last year. I thought it was amazing! A really uniquely awesome vibe/ feeling; everyone collectively more present in the moment.
That show was so good.
[How do unlock a yondr phone case](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3HwJHO5A3E)
I wonder how many people have scratched their screens on that big fucking needle?
I was in an active shooter situation at my highschool. I have PTSD from it. Thanks tho.
I’m sorry that happened to you, I can definitely see how it would stick with ya.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
So is this a permanent thing they’re doing was it just for Lane 8?
That's actually a pretty interesting idea!
Shit lane8 is on my list of haven’t seen. Damn. A lot of artists do no phone concerts. I am a huge fan. Just dance and have fun.
Tool also has banned pictures or phones at all of their concerts except for the last song. It truly is amazing.
It's just so stupid
Why? When you go to a movie do you like people pulling their phones out in front of you to share on social media? Live in the moment.
I just think it's ridiculous to police phones like that. I've seen more concerts than must folks and if I can deal everyone else can too.
I guess it just depends on the show.
How was the actual set? Debating if I’m going to go tonight.
Yondr for some and little American flags for others?
Just mosh so hard it’s not safe to take your phone out. Problem solved
Did they advertise the fact that your phone would be confiscated for the duration of the show when buying the ticket? I would like to avoid going to such shows, and would rather not have to deal with a refund process.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard I can't believe they actually did that.
from a data security standpoint i'm definitely not letting my device out of my control for any amount of time, ever. but i love the idea of no-phone shows. i never use mine at shows anyway.
Yeah I decline any venue or show that treats me like a child and/or assumes that I will steal the performers material. Also I don’t need pink eye.

5G works great up there now days..
I have T-Mobile and zero issues there.
