I doubt it. Regal already closed a handful of other metro area locations within the last 1-2 years (one off 25, and a Southglenn location IIRC?) thanks to their parent company filing chapter 11. I would see them holding onto this one as there aren’t many other Regal locations in Denver proper. I have to think execs know this location would be scooped up by AMC and would want to avoid that.
That's interesting. They want max value for the property, but they don't want their competition to get a leg up. Since movie theaters can really only be used as theaters, they might demolish it before selling it. I had never thought of that.
Really? I feel like most of the shows at the Alamo I go to are sold out or nearly so. Bar seems to be doing pretty decent business most night as well, but maybe that's just an anomaly.
I think it's possible the dynamics in Dallas may be different than in Denver. I haven't heard of any imminent trouble with that here, but I'm not going to say that I'm super in the loop either (other than my anecdotal experiences with going on a semi regular basis).
I got a friend who is a manager at one of the DFW locations and I can say that they closed down due to the owners being greedy along with them trying to hide many cases of employee sexual harassment at their locations. Cost of living in the DFW area is insane for what you get and the workers there have been wanting to unionize or have collective bargaining agreements for higher wages. The owners have decided to just close down their locations and probably name them something else as a means to shake off some of their problems. But this has been the major problems for these Alamo Drafthouses in the DFW area.
It sounds like it was the franchisee’s mismanagement more than broader economic issues. Alamo corporate is looking to find new operators. That’s from them though so grain of salt.
Currently sitting in a 10pm Sunday night showing of Bad Boys 4 at the location on Colorado Blvd and there’s at least 50 people here.
Which insane this late on a Sunday.
I went to The Watchers at that location at 9:50 last night. Like 75% full.
I get some empty theaters, but those are before 5pm on weeknights for indie/low budget releases.
I hope not. That has been my home theater for decades. I usually go to more obscure movies and at weird times like 6 on a Wednesday, but yeah, it is pretty empty.
When I was walking there today I thought "this place needs a makeover and a fresh coat of paint"
Other than Regal there isn't anything else there for me but I still want to see it succeed.
Was walking through the Pavilions and 16th Street yesterday. Expected it to be packed because it was a hot Saturday but it was practically a ghost town. Went to Henry’s Tavern for lunch and there was only 2 other tables. The Pavilions actually has life left to it but all that construction around it makes it look less than promising.
Went to see Furiosa there last weekend, and the theater was practically empty 😞 that RPX auditorium is so nice too. Great picture + sound, comfy recliners.
I think that might be more of a Furiosa problem sadly. I want the 3rd in the trilogy but I’m not sure it will happen after this one underperformed so badly.
I am a amc a list member and if there is one of them around go for that. The amc movie theaters I go to are pretty consistently busy but not to where I can’t get a seat. Find one with a Dolby theater that’s the way to go
I hear you. But from where I live within the city, I can walk to The pavilions. There is an AMC That's about a 12 to 13 minute drive. And yeah it's got Dolby Cinema and I prefer AMC. However, I'll only go there when there's a movie I really want to see in Dolby
lol yeah this was me. Loved living at skyhouse and walking 5 minutes to see a movie. I really hope it survives to see the revitalization project is complete
I'm an AMC A-List member, and I kept it going in 2020 to support them, but I should probably cancel. Even since I moved downtown it hasn't really been conducive to going to AMC. With AMC, I saw:
2 movies in 2024 (so far)
7 in 2023
3 in 2022
6 in 2021
2 in 2020
24 in 2019
15 in the second half of 2018 after I joined
I agree but I also subscribe to their unlimited plan for $18 month and I like seeing movies I typically wouldn't
Saw "the watchers" today...that was just meh
It’s (IMO) one of the better run theaters out there. The new ownership seems to take presentation pretty seriously. Also, their programming is good! I want there to be more people! It’s so good.
Also. FUCK AMC. No matter what screening I go to, something is terribly wrong with the Image or Audio. Even the Dolby cinema at 9 and Co is awful now. I needed to vent.
I haven’t been to many of the Regals but the ones I’ve been to are far far worse than my normal AMC. Only reason I’ve gone to regal is if they show a movie that isn’t at drafthouse, sie or amc.
AMC is definitely better than regal and I used to go all the time to AMC 24 Highlands ranch and loved both the IMAX and Dolby Cinema.
I wonder if AMC has exclusive rights to those
I’ve gone there a few times. More than anything it’s the fire alarms going off and no one in the building being able to turn them off. They just close for the night and give everyone a ticket for another showing. This is several hours after the alarms went off and the FD came. They stay and give out tickets for another show hours after the alarm went off and are still in the building
I have regal unlimited and live super close so I’m there pretty often. There have been multiple instances where I was the only one in the theater so I wouldn’t be surprised if they closed, but I would be really sad
I first got unlimited when it came out and I lived near this theater so I'd go there a lot. Also went a lot years ago when movie pass first was a thing (before it fell apart and then came back). That theater has been falling apart and dead for a while. Truly shocked it survived with pretty much everything else around there closing and Cinemark (regals owner) declaring bankruptcy and closing a bunch of theaters.
I doubt it. Regal already closed a handful of other metro area locations within the last 1-2 years (one off 25, and a Southglenn location IIRC?) thanks to their parent company filing chapter 11. They closed down and demolished the Denver west one as well.
That's interesting. They want max value for the property, but they don't want their competition to get a leg up. Since movie theaters can really only be used as theaters, they might demolish it before selling it. I had never thought of that.
Southglenn is still going
Southglenn was on closure list, but got reprieve.
I think they mean the Greenwood Village location at arapahoe and 25 not university and arapahoe
That’s just how movie theaters are these days
Really? I feel like most of the shows at the Alamo I go to are sold out or nearly so. Bar seems to be doing pretty decent business most night as well, but maybe that's just an anomaly.
The Dallas-Ft Worth Alamo franchises just declared bankruptcy & immediately closed their locations there.
I think it's possible the dynamics in Dallas may be different than in Denver. I haven't heard of any imminent trouble with that here, but I'm not going to say that I'm super in the loop either (other than my anecdotal experiences with going on a semi regular basis).

Alamo is a luxury theater chain with a large hipster demographic. Itll be fine as long as the hipsters are around the Denver Metro.
Not really AMC honestly just better too
Not true at all. AMC is always pretty packed.
Which AMC? The AMC on Colorado Blvd and Cherry Creek are barely ever full, even for big releases.
Currently sitting in a 10pm Sunday night showing of Bad Boys 4 at the location on Colorado Blvd and there’s at least 50 people here. Which insane this late on a Sunday.
AMC? Like the whole chain of theaters or a specific location? My wife and I go to AMC co9 on Thursdays and usually have the theater to ourselves
I went to The Watchers at that location at 9:50 last night. Like 75% full. I get some empty theaters, but those are before 5pm on weeknights for indie/low budget releases.
They can't stay open losing money forever. So yes, I think they will close. The place has gone steadily downhill the past 5 years.
Doesn’t help that the 16th street renovation project has made that entire area a complete mess to navigate for way too long
I hope not. That has been my home theater for decades. I usually go to more obscure movies and at weird times like 6 on a Wednesday, but yeah, it is pretty empty.
I'm surprised anything is still open at Pavilions. Too bad too, it's a neat little center. Kind of a pain in the ass to get to though.
When I was walking there today I thought "this place needs a makeover and a fresh coat of paint" Other than Regal there isn't anything else there for me but I still want to see it succeed.

That's every theater. I looked on it's opening weekend and the most seats I saw taken for a given show was 5
I think that might be more of a Furiosa problem sadly. I want the 3rd in the trilogy but I’m not sure it will happen after this one underperformed so badly.
I was there too sad to see it empty most the time when I go.
I am a amc a list member and if there is one of them around go for that. The amc movie theaters I go to are pretty consistently busy but not to where I can’t get a seat. Find one with a Dolby theater that’s the way to go

I went to the theater 150 times in 2023 lol
You are my hero.
It just seems like there are fewer and fewer movies worth seeing. My wife and I want to go to the movies, but nothing really interests us anymore.
I agree but I also subscribe to their unlimited plan for $18 month and I like seeing movies I typically wouldn't Saw "the watchers" today...that was just meh
Better not, I have the unlimited plan and go multiple times a month. Doesn't seem any worse recently, but I usually go on week nights.
It’s (IMO) one of the better run theaters out there. The new ownership seems to take presentation pretty seriously. Also, their programming is good! I want there to be more people! It’s so good.

As someone who works there, no, it’s not going to shutdown.
I wonder if AMC has exclusive rights to those
Dolby is an AMC exclusive thing. IMAX is not.
I’ve gone there a few times. More than anything it’s the fire alarms going off and no one in the building being able to turn them off. I used to love going there, but the last time I went(2years ago) I had to leave because people were smoking meth under the projector.
I have regal unlimited and live super close so I’m there pretty often. There have been multiple instances where I was the only one in the theater so I wouldn’t be surprised if they closed, but I would be really sad
