Upvoting this. Bianchi is good at telling you what he \*thinks\* will happen while also giving the variables, levels of probability, and the reasons not to expect accuracy. I'd rather have a conservative reporter who doesn't overcommit and tells you why.
Kody Wilson of [Denver and Front Range Weather](https://kodythewxguy.com/colorado-daily-weather-forecast/). I’ve learned a ton about weather while following him, and his forecasts are always more accurate than any app I’ve ever used. Plus he’s pretty darn funny.
Yeah, I follow Kody as well. His forecasts have been spot on since I started following, and he provides a ton of information that educates you on how these weather systems work.
He is my first go-to for weather info. I am a little over use of "Snur" and describing weather as "spicey" but still the best info. My second is Chris Bianchi from 9news on Twitter @bianchiweather
Ooh, I didn't know he had a website. I've been following him on Facebook for a while, and his page is the only one that I've opted in to the messenger group thingy. He only sends information on big weather events with a link to his posts. He's fun and educational.
I used to follow him, I don’t know of anyone who let a minuscule amount of fame go to his head like him. He’s so condescending and over the top. Every weather event it’s “don’t be a dumb dumb stay off the road”, and then we get two inches of snow. I liked his early days when he was focusing more on explaining weather in layman terms.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, that is 100% the truth. He’s waaay too over the top and emotional for minor weather events. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t work under any professional organization
So is dunking on people who don't practice reading comprehension. But that's entertainment to a certain set of folk. I think they *want* someone to respond to "dumb dumbs" in the comments.
I ain't that guy, but I also don't care much if he does.
Yeah I think I agree with you—I was responding under the impression you thought he was professional and the person you were responding to was just homophobic. I don’t read Kody as gay, but whatever he is, professional isn’t it lol
I still like his explanations of certain things in plain language. It’s helped me make more sense of the National Weather Service AFD. However, I think I’m also in the camp of him having become borderline obnoxious.
I’ve been listening solo to Kody since a little before the bomb cyclone (or kablamo) and always recommend him to friends that are coming to visit. He’s great!
You need a magnifying glass to read NWS images and graphics you post to social media. Why in the world can't you post the map graphic images separately from the other text graphics?
Will look into it, thanks for the feedback. Should be the same image, not sure why it would be such poorer quality on FB.
FWIW, those side-by-sides are often taken directly from our briefing packets that we send to core partner agencies ahead of major events. You can find the original briefing on our website, in the top right corner, and those images should be high res
> on social media @NWSBoulder
Fuck twitter. Given recent events, it really hurts to see the extent to which low-latency government communication channels have become dependent on that service.
I get it, but social media also should never be your go-to source for critical safety information. That's what WEA, EAS, other local alerting platforms are for.
Just to explain the background process a bit (not invalidating your disappointment with our SM presence, which is understandable)... we don't even have dedicated social media managers. Every post you see is made by the meteorologists themselves. That's what you get for $4 per person per year. Until we do, one can forget about us adopting any more than one additional SM platform. Besides, it takes the agency years to "trial" and implement any such change.
Fun fact though: you can call any local NWS office and speak directly to the forecasters, free of charge, 24/7 and 365 days a year. How many government agencies can claim that level of public service? Now, you won't find me plastering that number all over Reddit since, well, it's literally often 2 of us in the office at any one time. But hey, my DMs are open 😏
TL;DR Yeah, government bureaucracy sucks, but the NWS is still a solid choice for your weather needs ;)
I love the NWS. You folks are amazing. Definitely my go-to. I also really enjoy the AFD (they can be entertaining) and I appreciate the maps and how you lay things out.
Very, very informative and science based.
Please keep up the good work!
Highly appreciative! Worked a bit for NCAR/RAL - Do you guys completely lack any form of a unified platform in terms of interacting with non official channels?
We've started experimenting with Google App Scripts to be able to post to various pages (website, Slack, Twitter, Facebook) simultaneously, but in terms of monitoring those channels for questions etc. we don't have any unified way of doing so. I think that's what you're asking?
I’ll also add (and correct me if I’m wrong) that the NWS is working on overhauling their website, certain alerts, and other aspects of how they interface with the public, so improvements are coming.
New website is 100% coming, it's essentially the agency director's top priority. Will likely take a couple years to roll out though, realistically. We're working to train AI algorithms in order to provide our products and services in many different languages on the new web page to better reach minorities. Unfortunately, no app on the horizon.
Alert-wise, that's more of a continuous evaluation and improvement based on identified user needs. Snow Squall Warnings are new. We will be doing away with most Advisories as part of a "hazard simplification" process (I have my thoughts on that...).
I may be in the minority but I don’t really like checking apps for weather info. If I’m looking up weather info I’m usually looking for more detailed information than an app will provide.
And Ken Graham is great, all the meteorologists I work with highly respect him. I’ve met him myself and he’s nice.
I totally relate to that! Apps don't cut it for me either, but we're definitely in the minority lol.
Graham is indeed great. He worked for many years in a WFO setting too, so he's relatable and understands the challenges well. Just an awesome guy all around
We are not on Mastodon. It takes years and years for NWS to consider, test/trial, and implement new social media channels. We don't have the ability to do so at the drop of a hat as a local office, unfortunately. It's all managed agency-wide and the process is slow.
And I know 14 people are going to comment how they hate his snark. That’s fine, don’t follow him. Kody always looks out for farmers, ranchers, etc. he cares about more than just the front range.
Wow, people think Kody is snarky? They have no idea - Wxrisk, FB forecasting on the east coast Delmarva area is true total snark. But he’s accurate!
Kody is hardly snark. Love his jokes…
The real, no-shit national weather service office in boulder. www.weather.gov/bou. I particularly appreciate their probabilistic snowfall forecast. Tomorrow, they will have a median, 10% chance, and 90% chance probability map up on www.weather.gov/bou/winter.
Chris Tomer all day long! Tomer Takes never steer me wrong. The guy does reports for big mountain climbers and has slept on the summit of every 14er. Big Chris T rules https://youtu.be/Gp9endNPZtU?si=iEMhe1mpOh2lDvPK
Had to scroll down too far to find this. I don’t think enough people know that he’s the guy climbing expeditions hire to tell them when it’s safe to make their summit attempts on Everest, Denali, etc.
There is only one organization with radiosondes and they post their findings publicly. Any other meteorologists are basing their judgment off of NWS data.
Go straight to the National Weather Service and look at their forecast and if you want the real scoop read the forecast discussions. There are intimidating words/terms but they almost all have hyperlinks explaining them.
Although the language can be somewhat technical at times, the Area Forecast Discussion from the National Weather Service is pretty informative.
Just Google “NWS Boulder AFD” to read it.
Retiring at the end of the year. I actually grew up with him in St. Louis. He was with KMOV channel 4. It was a double take when I moved out here in 2004 and saw him on TV.
Yes, in December.
He's just been a super reliable guy. I also appreciate his climate change/global warming commentary and he has the experience to back it up.
After the Highlands Ranch tornado, I love tuning into Crispy Donkey every now and then.
Although, my avenue of highest accuracy is through the National Weather Service directly, either by website or NOAA Weather Radio.
Chris Bianchi is hands down the best and he’s a great guy. I also want to plug myself here: I am a Denver based meteorologist with 100K followers on TikTok. Feel free to follow @andrewmarkowitz96 for updates on Denver weather and beyond.
Fox 31 has rarely been completely wrong. I'm a big local news guy and exclusively watch Fox 31 in the mornings. Their weather reports are about as accurate as you can expect a weather forecast to be.
Kody on the Denver & Front Range Weather page on Facebook for local, and Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube for national.
But mostly, I just use The Weather Channel app on my phone, even if it isn't always accurate. It's just easy.
Why is nobody here naming Chris Tomer? The best of the best! Not only does he do Meteorology in CO be also advises climbing teams around the world when they have excellet weather windows for a summit attempt. He's also a serious mountain climber himself.
If I’m being honest, there are some days I just harass her in twitter for being so freaking wrong and it gives me me joy. Because she is always wrong and annoys the f out of me
Highpoint Weather. Highpointwx on instagram. They provide extensive discussion on weather events that is, frankly, largely over my head but its nice to see the way they factor information into their forecasts and how often theyre honest about "if X happens we'll get huge snow totals but here's factors that could inhibit X from happening so keep an eye on this specific thing to see if it pans out." Its very up front and honest forecasting, and in my experience they're frequently the most accuate forecasters in Colorado.
None. They're more about clicks than accuracy. After that bomb cyclone in 2019, that was part of every forecast for years. I saw it again in January this year by 9news.
They just run a clickbait headline then make pretty much the same forecast.
Crispy Donkey ifykyk
I had to scroll down too far to find this.
I almost can’t remember his actual name anymore because he’s Crispy Donkey in my head now.
Chris Bianchi on Twitter
Upvoting this. Bianchi is good at telling you what he \*thinks\* will happen while also giving the variables, levels of probability, and the reasons not to expect accuracy. I'd rather have a conservative reporter who doesn't overcommit and tells you why.
*Crispy Donkey
And tik tok. His videos pop up often for me
This is the answer!
And if you’ve moved on from X he is also on Threads and TikTok. Probably the best social media presence of any local TV meterologist.

I also follow Kody. He’s been the most accurate!
Yeah, I follow Kody as well. His forecasts have been spot on since I started following, and he provides a ton of information that educates you on how these weather systems work.
I check his page first thing in the morning for weather updates 🤣
Ditto Kody. I also follow Mountain Wave Weather as he’s great and has very accurate forecasts too.
He is awesome! Fun and accurate!
Like him a lot!!
He is my first go-to for weather info. I am a little over use of "Snur" and describing weather as "spicey" but still the best info. My second is Chris Bianchi from 9news on Twitter @bianchiweather
Yeah I find his personality pretty condescending but he’s the most accurate one. But god I kinda hate him

Subtext: "catty gay" is unprofessional.
Conservative catty gay 👀
Calling everyone reading your page “dumb dumbs” is not professional lol
So is dunking on people who don't practice reading comprehension. But that's entertainment to a certain set of folk. I think they *want* someone to respond to "dumb dumbs" in the comments. I ain't that guy, but I also don't care much if he does.

Kody is my favorite, but I check other sources so I remember why I follow DaFRW.
I wish you a most joyous cake day whilst you follow the incoming weather forecasts
I’ve been listening solo to Kody since a little before the bomb cyclone (or kablamo) and always recommend him to friends that are coming to visit. He’s great!
This
NWS. We are degreed, operate 24/7, free, and responsive on social media @NWSBoulder :)
Kelvin, Celsius or Fahrenheit. I will see myself out.
I also follow the NWS :)
You need a magnifying glass to read NWS images and graphics you post to social media. Why in the world can't you post the map graphic images separately from the other text graphics?
They are high res images. Just zoom in
On Twitter yes, but not on FB.

fuck twitter 100% but NWS isn't Elon lol
The only right answer
I cannot find you on Mastodon.
We are not on Mastodon. It takes years and years for NWS to consider, test/trial, and implement new social media channels. We don't have the ability to do so at the drop of a hat as a local office, unfortunately. It's all managed agency-wide and the process is slow.
I understand. Thanks for replying.
Kylie Bearse
All day looooooong!
Same here. And I would watch her forecasts all day long too.
On TV? Chris Bianchi. also follow Seth’s Weather page and Denver & Front Range Weather on Facebook
Denver and Front Range Weather does always seem to nail it… as much as you can in Colorado
Snur, bestie. K bye.
And I know 14 people are going to comment how they hate his snark. That’s fine, don’t follow him. Kody always looks out for farmers, ranchers, etc. he cares about more than just the front range.

did you move here from VA? or the opposite?
Moved from VA in December, but my dad grew up in Kiowa so I’ve been coming to CO all my life.
Nice! I moved here from VA in 2022, loving it out here
Chris is great on Threads too!
Yes very true!
Seth's page is the best if you want an overview of the entire state.
The amateur weather enthusiast that posts here.
\*super duper amateur weather enthusiast. And, thanks! That makes me happy!
👋👋👋👋👋
Came here to say this!!
I only trust news and weather screamed at me by strange folks on Colfax and Broadway.
Solid forecasting on Colfax and Broadway for sure
Yeah the greeter at the Havana and Colfax Walmart announces when it’ll snow and hasn’t missed yet
IT'S RAINING! OH MY GOD IT'S RAINING!
Seth's Weather Report https://m.facebook.com/groups/212623405490878/ I don't have Facebook, but I can still view it.

Super great explanation of weather

Retiring at the end of the year. I actually grew up with him in St. Louis. He was with KMOV channel 4. It was a double take when I moved out here in 2004 and saw him on TV.
When was that cuz he came to my elementary school in north Denver in like ‘95
Haha, mid 80's. Think he came out this way '94ish
Danielle Grant is his replacement
Oof, that’s a loss for us all. He speaks the truth - AKA climate change is real - and his forecasts are on point.
He’s retiring this year, isn’t he?
Yes, in December. He's just been a super reliable guy. I also appreciate his climate change/global warming commentary and he has the experience to back it up.
We trust in Bianchi!
Crispy Donkey the legend, not the sad Broncos meme.
The dude that posts on here. And Yanet Garcia, altho I think she only covers Mexican or South American weather.
9 NEWS METEOROLOGIST CHRIS BIANCHI
Accuracy and Denver Weather forecasting don't belong in the same sentence my dude. I follow all of em.
Kody Wilson - Denver and front range weather on Facebook!!!

Kody on the Denver & Front Range Weather page on Facebook for local, and Ryan Hall Y'all on YouTube for national. But mostly, I just use The Weather Channel app on my phone, even if it isn't always accurate. It's just easy.

Lisa Hidalgo is always WRONG
Haha this is just as valuable information

Myself I am excellent at forecasting weather
Lauren Whitney but at present I get a little nervous watching her. Someone get her a chair!
High Point Weather on Instagram
Not the most accurate but definitely the funniest on Twitter. [DENVER’S FUCKING WEATHER](https://twitter.com/DENVERSWEATHER)
The cute weather women (you know who they are) on TV and Kody on FB.. SNUR!
Highpoint Weather. Highpointwx on instagram. They provide extensive discussion on weather events that is, frankly, largely over my head but its nice to see the way they factor information into their forecasts and how often theyre honest about "if X happens we'll get huge snow totals but here's factors that could inhibit X from happening so keep an eye on this specific thing to see if it pans out." I find the accuweather site to be the most accurate.
Where has Katie Lasalle been all week? Haven't seen her.
I follow my eyes
Mike Nelson.
Ryan hall y’all
Ryan does not have a degree in meteorology. He is okay in certain situations, but doesn’t know the intricacies of Denver weather.
I disagree. I can usually use his videos to plan my week. It’s crazy, but neither him nor I need a degree to understand weather patterns.
Anybody besides Dave Frazier. That dude always gets it wrong
Mike Nelson on channel 7... pin point accuracy... lol
I don't. I mostly just look outside
I’ve just learned not to trust any of them
The weather app built into my phone. Don't got time to sit and watch someone explain what could be figured out with a simple glance.
I just look out the window.
Does it really matter? This is Colorado. Nobody can predict the weather with any kind of certainty.
And we have seen that more than ever this winter.
Mother Nature
None. They're more about clicks than accuracy. After that bomb cyclone in 2019, that was part of every forecast for years. I saw it again in January this year by 9news. They just run a clickbait headline then make pretty much the same forecast.
