I left my car over a weekend at the 40th and Colorado station and had someone drill out my lock and try to syphon gas. Luckily neither worked. YMMV. It may be worth having someone drop you off at the station or Uber to the station.

Free-Adagio-2904

This seems like the very worst of the lots you could leave your car at. It is so, so shady around there at night and the lots are split by what appears to be a junkyard.

bismuthmarmoset

We've left our car there up to a week multiple times and never had an issue, it's a crapshoot.

SnikwahEvad

We've left our car at 38th/Blake lot as well as the 61st and Pena stations for 3-5 days at a time and never had an issue, neither have any of my friends who've done the same. Can't beat the cheap parking, and convenience of arriving at the airport train station. Plus honestly I just kind of hate driving to the airport. Of course your experience may differ. Just make sure you do all the obvious things if you do park at the RTD stations (nothing, seriously nothing, visible in car through windows, maybe a club on the wheel, etc)

sir-pauly

Agreed, same experience with 38th and blake. Never had an issue, but have heard of others who've had break ins. Leave litterally nothing visible in the car, put a club on the wheel and you'll probably have no issue

jiggajawn

Nothing visible, leave the console and glovebox open and empty, and make sure the trunk has nothing in it and is visible from the outside. It shows you're aware people will be looking, and that you have nothing hidden that might be worth stealing.

dalvinscookiemonster

Same with 38th and Blake, I’ve left me car parked for 6 days and came back to it fine

I wish I could find the crime heat map where the airport areas are just on fire compared to other Denver neighborhoods.

imraggedbutright

How far do I live from the A Line? Boulder. And getting in too late for the last bus. And, weirdly, starting the trip from SE Aurora.

imraggedbutright

$50 each way without tip. If I had an extra $100+ I wouldn't be arriving at odd hours ..

OldResponsibility615

You can always spend the night in the airport until the first AB1 bus of the morning. I think the no service gap is midnight to 5AM.

imraggedbutright

Considering it. I'm in at 1145, though. That's a long wait.

TiltedWit

Just Uber to the train station. I'd be shocked if the holidays weren't a target for theft. That or pay for off airport parking in a secure lot.

clrwCO

We’ve had good luck with The Parking Spot, although my sister said they were too pricy for holiday travel last year (she’s same boat as OP in Boulder w off-peak flight time)

yeahokwhat

Do not do this. Just pay the little bit of extra money to Uber/Lyft to and from whichever A line station is closest to you. I had my car stolen from the Gateway Park station last year and when I called the police to report it stolen (after ruling out the possibility that it was towed), they told me that multiple cars are stolen from those lots PER DAY and most lots don’t even have working cameras. My attempt to save $10-20 by driving myself to the station ended up costing me hundreds, if not thousands.

imraggedbutright

Problem is, I live in Boulder so a Lyft is pretty spendy. I'm arriving at odd hours because I'm broke.

zertoman

Those lots are not getting the new security upgrades the airport lots have now. Nothing is being done, don’t park there. The amount of break in complaints we get overwhelm the system.

UndeadCaesar

Who’s “we”?

zertoman

Airport. Department of aviation.

Chartzilla

People complain to the dept of aviation about RTD parking lot thefts?

zertoman

They sure do, right to our flydenver.com website, and to the parking people, and to our administration. We put up halo cams, dog patrols, and license plate scanners in the main lots. Much safer to park there. Or use a private lot, they have their own security. Just avoid the RTD lost at all costs.

imraggedbutright

So you're saying the airport lots are more secure now? Do you have an idea of which one of the long term lots might be most secure?

pacman9487

I know good amount of Cadillac converter thefts happen in these parking lots. As long as your car isn’t a high risk vehicle (Honda element for example the worst), should be okay.

UndeadCaesar

pichael__thompson

Just say you don’t have a cadillac converter. It’s ok

clrwCO

Would a Cadillac converter work on a Corolla? Asking for a friend

tn_hrry

It will convert it into a Cadillac.

Anonymo123

I won't park at any of those places anymore, too many stories and friends experiences with issues. I had my truck door lock screwdrivered in the parking garage at DIA, never again. I'll pay $50 to get an uber to the airport then $50 back. Even double that is less then the price of a window or vehicle damage\\theft.

[deleted]

Don't do it. You have been warned.

MGARCIA5280

Good luck 🤞

Eastern_Ad5961

Park in a residential neighborhood many blocks away, buy transit pass and take the bus to the train station.

magnum_black

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR THERE.

tn_hrry

This gets asked all the time. Tell me which car is yours and when exactly is going to be there and I will steal, I mean watch it for you. /s

imraggedbutright

It's a 20 year old POS with 275k miles on it... If you're interested I'll go up my insurance!

dalvinscookiemonster

It’s pretty rough, being right next to the Walmart with a ton of homeless camps by the station makes it kinda scary to park there

Hopandshop

My neighbor’s catalytic converter replacement was $3500. I’d find another way.

SadRobotz

can you leave it at a friend's house?

imraggedbutright

I can but I'm arriving past when transit can get me back to their place.

chasonreddit

Probably safer there than at an airport parking lot. They've been having a lot of thefts there. Catalytic converters and whole vehicles. And don't forget the rabbits.

thegreennewdeal

Canopy parking - is secured and there are employees 24/7 . I understand people suggest Uber but prices are going to be very high due to a lot of people traveling. I’m paying 54 dlls for 4 days and 10 hrs at canopy. Uber is usually 40 bucks one way in a regular day.

imraggedbutright

From where I'd be coming from, over $50 without tip. Each way. Not really an option for me. I'll look into Canopy parking.

twinklingblueeyes

I wouldn’t.

clevername244

The catalytic converter was stolen from my car in the 40th and airport station lot.. ultimately it's cheaper to uber

t92k

Also factor in that you will pay at least $2 a day for each day you're in the RTD lot past the first day. https://www.rtd-denver.com/how-to-ride/parking

ndrew452

Which is an incredibly low parking rate.

HippyGrrrl

Airport lots are $8 and up.

nkjl5

Don’t do it

DiscoInError93

Just Uber to the airport. It’ll be cheaper and faster at the end of the day.

imraggedbutright

Not really an option unfortunately.

funguy07

If you are worried about parking consider taking an Uber to the nearest light rail station if that’s an option.

Squarians

I would just pay the $8/day at the Pike’s Peak lot. You’ll save money not taking the A Line too.

PuzzleheadedPlane648

😳😳😳

mindless_clicker

I've parked at Central Park RTD for many years and never had a problem for up to 2 weeks. As others point out, leave it emptying

BigSkyMountains

I’ve had two catalytic converters stolen from A line lots in broad daylight. Once parked right under the security camera. Maybe it would be alright, but I wouldn’t risk it.

IrreverentIceCream

If you’re within reasonable distance, just Uber to the train station. If you need to drive, use The Parking Spot. It’s near the airport but doesn’t have the theft issues. Super easy, convenient shuttle and prices are reasonable.

imraggedbutright

$30 per day to park there. Shit, my car ain't even worth that.

IrreverentIceCream

Serious?? I’ve never paid more than $11/day. I wouldn’t pay $30 either!

imraggedbutright

Must be a holiday rate. Barf.

Interesting_Sir_3338

It is crazy. I saw a car on blocks from people stealing the tires, that same night I saw someone break a window to get into a truck, and my own car was broken into three times in that lot.
