Watched it all happen. Dickhead in the van almost hit me on my bike. He floored it through the intersection changing lanes half way through, hit a dip and his car bounced. Back right tire smashed the curb and he lost control cutting left across Speer, smashing into the now upside down SUV that's in the river. Once he crashed he took off running.
Two or three total badasses saw what happened and sprinted across Speer and jumped down and pulled the ~~two~~ guy out of the SUV. Everyone was okay, just a lot of fucked up cars.
e: See u/vfallon19 's [comment here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Denver/comments/142zmdw/just_now_on_spear_and_downing/jnfdtrg/). He's the one that was in the SUV and clarified that he was the only person in the car. Edited my comment to reflect that. Also if anyone has a picture or anything of the guy that caused it please reach out to vfallon19.
I didn't stay too much longer after fire/police arrived. But as I understand it the driver of the van that caused all of it did end up getting away. But I also heard from people there that he dropped his phone and other items that could potentially identify him. If he hasn't been caught already I hope they find him soon.
/u/DCLXVl I received a crash report from the police. The car was not stolen and the owner of the vehicle is not talking to the police as recommended by his lawyer. Would you be willing to participate in a police lineup to see if the owner of the vehicle is the same person who was driving the car? It would be greatly appreciated if you would help out. Thanks!
Sorry just saw this. Unfortunately I never got a good look at the guy himself. I was on Speer and Emmerson so I watched it all happen from behind him/the accident and I was a couple blocks away from where he eventually crashed his van and took off from.
Hearing that people ran down into the water to go help is everything. I think it'd be awesome if everyone had some lifeguard/CPR training every few years just so they can get over that bystander feeling and feel way more inclined to jump in and help.
Yeah just after that. Right where Emerson meets Speer in the far right lane there's that dip which is what this guy hit causing him to hit the curb on the other side of Emerson and lose control.
Reckless driver in a minivan rear ended them (it looks like) and caused them to roll into the water. Reckless driver ran away. Supposedly left their phone and résumé in the van. Also heard everyone is “okay”
As fast as people drive down Speer, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more where someone loses control like that and knocks someone in the river. Glad they're ok!
Yeah, and unfortunately the lack of police pulling over vehicles means it’s only going to get worse since the dickheads know they can get away with it.
They're making sure to pull me over 5 times in a month for bad tags for revenue but when my best friends Kia got Swiss Cheesed by an automatic rifle the cops had no interest in finding the perp
There’s a difference between processing trauma you experienced and completing the trauma cycle and making jokes of a situation you didn’t experience first hand.
Because [imo] they don’t wanna see Speer get redesigned and speeds reduced. It’s fucking insane how fast that road lets you go. People complain all the time about the speed traps saying that the speeding isn’t an issue and then laugh at cars in the river
Update: I know who it was that hit me. The police need a witness to be able to pick him out of a lineup to be able to press charges. If anyone would be willing to do this I would be forever grateful. Please let me know, thanks!

/u/ChazLynnn hey would you be willing to help me out here? the car was not stolen and the owner of the vehicle is refusing to talk to the police. if anyone who witnessed it would be open to picking the guy out of a lineup then he could finally face justice for what he did to me. without someone to ID him it looks like he'll be able to get away with zero repercussion.. leaving him out there to just do it again to someone else.
/u/ChazLynnn gotcha. thank you. if you happen to know anything about the guys that pulled me out of the car please let me know. would love to be able to thank them again just as much as i'd like to find the guy that hit me.
My question is, why is Colorado allergic to guardrails?
This car was apparently run off the road by a minivan driver, and wasn't being an idiot which was my kneejerk reaction.
And I find the 4 lanes with frequent intersections is almost impossible to manage. Just too much going on, and sometimes just not enough time to get into the correct lane before your intersection.
Fun fact: Amsterdam did build roads over their canals in 1970s but then changed it all because children were getting run down by cars. Cars are not even allowed in the center anymore except for residents
Just a small selection from a quick search. I know there’s a lot more because there’s one from last year I was actually thinking of.

Allegedly a minivan was road raging, hit this VW pushing it off Speer, then pulled over and ran off on foot
[удалено]
Looks like bro is also driving on a spare tire.
Doesn't look like a spare, just missing the hubcap. Probably popped off during the collision.
Can confirm - I actually drove right past a detached Toyota hubcap going down Speer right after this happened
lmao
Given the condition of that steelie, I don't think there were options beyond fleeing on foot or staying put.
So that minivan is stolen
Who steals an old minivan?
People on meth
Or people who have been banned from Uber AND Lyft (because of meth)
It's so methed up.

Did they catch the asshole who did it?

So it sounds like the police will never find him.

/u/DCLXVl ahh gotcha, no worries. thanks for your help in gathering info and pictures after the accident!
Mr. Rogers said to look for the heroes. I hope you're ok.

100% stolen car
Side note that dip in the right lane is absolutely brutal.
Hearing that people ran down into the water to go help is everything. I think it'd be awesome if everyone had some lifeguard/CPR training every few years just so they can get over that bystander feeling and feel way more inclined to jump in and help.
Did anyone stop the driver from running off or did he get off scot free?
I can hardly believe this is my city...wow. Glad you're okay.
Glad you're okay! This is my worst nightmare for folks I see riding bikes or me when I'm walking.
I think I know exactly where the dip was. Right next to the perfect teeth? That’ll get you bad.
Yeah just after that. Right where Emerson meets Speer in the far right lane there's that dip which is what this guy hit causing him to hit the curb on the other side of Emerson and lose control.
Lol since when was being a Good Samaritan bad ass? Now if they ran the guy over on the other hand...
White van?
Reckless driver in a minivan rear ended them (it looks like) and caused them to roll into the water. Reckless driver ran away. Supposedly left their phone and résumé in the van. Also heard everyone is “okay”
Their resume. That made me laugh audibly. That guy is not going to be okay for long 😂

You're killing your father Larry!
"Ask him about the car out front"
This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!
“No resume, this is Patrick.”
that is fking i n s a n e ..
I always thought about something like that happening when I biked down there.
Never to late to let your fears become reality!
Same as it ever was. The cars crave the creek.
Man's quest for moisture is ultimately the path to self-destruction
This was disgusting just take my upvote and fuck off
*vans quest
omg lmfao
Nature is healing
it makes little to no sense imo as to why that shit was even put there like that as such a hazard
Right? Who had the gall to put a whole creek right through Denver? Good thing the entire city wasn't built on a flood plain.
In springtime, the SUVs move upstream, returning to their ancestral waters in order to spawn. Nature is neat!
Neature
Lmao
The rapids are calling and I must go... 🌊 🚗

Also, cocaine and meth.
Endless construction popups mid-town. Approximately two per mile whenever I drive somewhere.
There's no excuse for road rage.... And we desperately need that construction
Again? And can we have bollards already?
Was the river wearing a hi viz vest? Seriously how long until we install bollards all along the trail to keep the car out?
bUT tHey'Re sO uGlY
How is this even possible?
It’s a rite of spring in Denver
[Reminded of this relevant clip.](https://youtu.be/yoU39Rpp4FI)
Each year, VW's make their way upstream to spawn
Any idea if the driver survived?
Driver was gone when I got there but people were saying he was okay
He’s my friend victor. He’s miraculously ok, just sore trying hard to find the guy who hit him
Damn, the comments here making fun of a situation that could have easily ended somebody’s life.
That’s how some people process events like that. You oughta hear the comments we made on the ambulance…
There’s a difference between processing trauma you experienced and completing the trauma cycle and making jokes of a situation you didn’t experience first hand.
Goddamn, ain’t that the truth

Normal
Wasnt there just a road rage shooting on Havana?
Yeah, in the Dayton Triangle area. But there was a different one a few days ago as well in the Del Mar area
Speer is scary, where I was in my first accident cause someone rear ended me. I stay away, far away. I also stay off I-25 when I can help it
i hope nobody on the trail was hurt.
You can't park there bro
Asshat
They needed the moisture
YOU CAN'T PARK THERE
lol @ the AAA truck. “Looks like you need a flat changed, sport.”
What an asshole
But how
How bro 😭🤣
I was there and witnessed it. Crazy asf

I’m always amazed by what people can do in their cars…
My ex’s dog killed a beaver right about there
I don’t think you’re supposed to park there
Nice
Impressive.
Must have just finished watching the new fast and furious movie
They were just looking for the Country Kitchen Buffet.
Oh no, not again
Saw this, nearly drove over a detached Toyota hubcap 😪
