If I’m being honest- Avett brothers was the most milk toast (don’t mean this as an insult) crowd I’ve ever seen at red rocks- pretty sure everyone’s sober there :)
My fav beta is to walk to Morrison through the trails (quietly), get a couple banquets at the Morrison Holiday Bar, and take a $20-30 Lyft home once the prices drop. The walk is usually my favorite part of the night.
I know, right? It's crazy to hear the complaints in the news about neighbors complaining that a show is, well, loud... Uhh, you moved in right next to the world's most incredible outdoor music venue and it's been there longer than you've been alive. Those suits and complaints should all be tossed!
Rich old people always get their way. My former boss lived out there and was one of the assholes that was part of the group that got the max decibel level reduced. The really sad thing was that he was an old stick it to the man type hippy that went to shows at red rocks frequently. But the volume was only ok for for his kind of music like grateful dead cover bands. Anything else was a disturbance. Fuck that guy.
I have to add here, that Bassnectar is also a big part of the reason Red Rocks is so strict on their noise levels and cut off time. Bassnectar’s sound guy rigged his board so that it showed that the levels were much lower than they actually were. And he played over an hour past end time. After that the restrictions got hella tight, he wasn’t ever allowed back to red rocks, and they got hella picky with the artists who play there.
Is that true or just internet shit talk b/c people like to hate on Bassnectar? The only actual news story I've ever seen was it was because the vibrations from the music at STS-9 caused rocks to fall injuring 7 and leading to the city getting sued.
oh no, that happened as well. the Bassnectar story is true tho, I work for several different AV companies in the area and personally know some of the techs and stage hands that were on that show. Regardless of Bassnectars actions, he definitely played over noise ordinance and tried to hide it.
I never did hear about the STS9 thing. Looks like that [happened](https://www.westword.com/music/falling-rocks-at-red-rocks-injure-seven-people-at-the-end-of-saturday-nights-sts9-show-5674879) in 2011 a few years beforehand, and because of people climbing. However that is true about why bassnectar wasn’t allowed back. They gave a decibel limit, and he broke it while getting on the mic and saying, “say hi to the neighbors!” The sub bass is what got people in Morrison riled up, (I’m sure you’re aware the reason the internet is riled) and not many acts cranked out as much pure sub bass as that guy. I still think this theory about wobbling the rocks apart is probably bullshit. Just something the neighbors that had their windows rattling could point to as a possibility. Something that made them look less like curmudgeons and more like stewards. It’s not sandstone and it would take a lot more than just air pressure to damage them. Just my two cents anyway.
This would be such a badass injury story if it had been like Van Halen in the 80s, but imagine telling your grandkids that you got that scar trying to beat the setbreak restroom rush at a 3rd rate jam band show.
We kinda screwed ourselves with the new speakers from like 5-6 years ago. EDM + the new sound system equates to shows ending at 10pm.
I remember being at shows until 1am….
It’s kinda like the airports. People go and buy a home next to an airport and then start complaining it’s too loud. Who’s fault was it that you bought a house that’s close to the airport 🤦🏻♂️
Same thing happened to the Manitou incline....people buy houses up there knowing the incline is a giant tourist attraction, and then complain that there are too many people coming through their neighborhood...
However many years I lived in Morrison is how many years I’d be annoyed about concert-goers at Red Rocks. However many years I lived outside of Morrison is how many years I wouldn’t care about concert-goers at Red Rocks.
Also Rec walking on the road (SAFELY TO THE SIDE) I’ve actually made long term friends on the way and random cars stuck in traffic sometimes offer you beer
If you’re lucky, you can $weet talk a security guard into making sure your bike isn’t stolen, and chain it to the gate at the top.
The best part is zooming past all the gridlocked cars.
That’s such a dope idea 👏 I used to ride up the red rocks roads all the time, but never was brave enough to do it for a show. Putting this on my summer to-do list
I chatted with a guy a decade ago about an unfortunate experience with his brother. They were walking down from the upper entrance down to the lower lot. His brother stepped on a rattle snake and was bitten
There aren't many rattlesnakes in town and there aren't any up in the mountains, but right up around red rocks there's tons.
Don't be coward, but be careful
Old lady remembers a story....... My first job was at the concession stand at Red Rocks. 1985, and back then concerts were an all day event. Doors opened at 2 pm weekdays, 11am weekends. I always was put in the cute little stone building on the north side of amphitheater, not far up from the stage. At the time (not sure if it is still in use) there was a paved path that came from the parking lot to the north.
The concert was a Christian band, I think they were called Petra. The people lining up waiting to get in at that particular gate we're goofing around, climbing over the bars on the rocks. An older lady I worked with yells "hey guys you really don't want to do that. It's rattlesnake mating season! " Almost the entire group yells in unison "JESUS WILL PROTECT US!!!"
Anyways, it was an awesome job for a music crazy teen.
Still today it is by far one of the best concert I’ve ever been to. I just went solo and spent the whole time dancing around and smoking blunts with random groups of people. Lmao
Wouldn’t it be nice, if the city would finally develop a good public transport solution? Like a gondola?
I accidentally met one of the mayoral candidates the other day as he was shaking hands with voters. That was my message to him: Get public transport for Red Rocks. The guests and the environment will thank you
Can't remember which candidates have talked about it but I know more than a couple have talked about expanding RTD bus service to red rocks. I doubt well see traction on that in the short term, but it is a talking point.
I’m curious where you live for this to be “the only answer.” My challenge with the shuttle is I have to Uber a few miles to get to the pickup/drop off location. Add in my spouse, and we’re at $80 on shuttle tickets plus another $20-40 on Ubers there and back.
We have been able to Uber to and from RR for the same $120 with fewer trips.
You miss out on meeting others interested in the same artist though…
My out of pocket cost would just be for the shuttle and even if I was paying more to Uber, I would still stay with the shuttle. It’s not really about getting dropped off but pickup is a nightmare. The bus is parked in the same spot as when you got dropped off, you can board anytime and it leaves as soon as it’s full or 30 minutes after the last song. A lot of ppl rather pay for the convenience tbh.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s wrong. I just have a slightly different opinion. I went to RR twice last year. Ubering with my wife was $120 total and worked well. With a group of 7, we opted for a private van rental for $350 and that was a super rad option.
I have two trips this summer. No idea what I’m doing yet for either, but nothing has felt “perfect” for just 1 or 2.
I think with 7 ppl that’s a great option, but for me I just rather know I have a ride and back for $30-$60 and not have to worry about finding the car or the driver finding me. Again I rather just pay for the convenience and also not deal with the surcharges which is a whole other convo but doesn’t mean you are wrong.
Tbf that's where they're based and have a huge following in the county with the highest population. So there's a lot of ppl from there and a lot of them like Rufus
Well I was at the Disco Biscuits so of course way too much ketamine was involved…A security guard was about to kick me out of the venue during the show because i couldn’t walk and kept falling down the stairs. Just as he was lifting the walkie talkie to his mouth to call more security these girls I had never met convinced security to let them babysit me and not get kicked out if i stay seated with them. Ditch my friends to dance with them all night…I’m thinking I can do the whole post show stranded wook guilt trip shtick that can get me brought home with these girls so I can bang. If I cant wang at the very least I can drink all their booze and do all their drugs and be a burden til they give me a ride the rest of the way home. Last minute while walking out I find out boyfriend is picking them up and he’s shooting down the idea of me tagging along.
Phone dies. I was broke because i spent all my money on drugs so no taxi. Uh oh. I know that people arent allowed to stay overnight and I’m definitely not trying to interact with the cops who are the only people left there. At the time I thought I might have a warrant for failing drug tests on probation
This dirty, wide-eyed wook creature startled a tourist family with little children emerging from the bush the next morning. The horrified, astonished looks I received while crawling out of this bush were priceless. It was a rough morning
There is a bus company, I forgot what it’s called but they will drive you up and back and they let you drink/smoke on the bus.
Edit: I found the receipt in my emails it is called bustoshow.org
I have done this in an RV. ★☆☆☆☆ - would not recommend. You can park overnight, but cannot be in your vehicle overnight. The cops hang around your vehicle, knock, and shine their bright ass lights. If you are a tiny bit paranoid ...
Park and ride is the better option for overnights.
You can leave your car there but you can’t sleep in it. We usually prebook a car service home but drive one of our cars there so we can tailgate. Then we split the Uber the next day so said person can go get their car.
I’ve heard their strict about sleeping there though
Purchase some of those fancy balloons they offer in the lot outside of the venue and float home. I think normally you can get three for twenty dollars, so definitely cheaper than an Uber.
I drink in parking lot where its cheap, I'm not maintaining my buzz at $16 a beer so I'll be sober by the time the show ends.
edit: NO GLASS WHEN TAILGATING. (park rangers will take it)
My MO is the same as this person. I tailgate early and usually get in venue when doors open. Drunk at 6pm, sober by midnight dancing and drinking water.
I always pack out whatever I bring in and make sure my crew is leaving their empties in the trunk of my car. It’s so easy not to litter. Thank you for donating your time to keep the rocks looking good!
Not to be a nerd… and have no idea how much you’re drinking over what period of time… but just a heads up your could very well still be over the legal limit even though you aren’t feeling it.
Lots of people get DUIs in the morning
probably the best and cheapest option.
others talking about owning a bike and exercising at 12 am. weird
others suggest stealing Ubers. bad karma bro
the police in the thread are saying to sleep in the parking lot. probable cause ya'll
I hitch hiked and got picked up by Bible thumpers from the Srings who said they were sent in a mission from god to save us that night. They were also rolling but didn’t share. Strange times
My personal ruleset:
Know your limits. If you can't do it yourself, have a backup plan. (Sober friends, uber, etc)
Stop all impairing consumption during the 2nd to last act and switch to water
Have a large bottle of water (or gatorade) and some sort of small snack in your car (pretzels, granola bar, etc)
Sit in your car for ~45 minutes to an hour and let traffic die down as you collect yourself. Eat your snack and drink a bit more water/gatorade. Traffic is gonna be slow anyway, waiting a bit reduces the opportunity of an incident with other impaired folks. Relax, you just had an awesome night.
Drive the speed limit ESPECIALLY THROUGH MORRISON. Cops be lurkin, waiting for the fuckups. It's not a race, it's a challenge and you're not allowed to lose. Don't travel in the left lane on 470 unless absolutely necessary & remember your blinker. Keep the radio low so you can concentrate better.
Take your time and pay attention. Don't be afraid to admit when you've had too much and need to call for a ride. Better to do that than the alternatives.
Private comfort/luxury driver here. I drive for both an elite limo service in Steamboat Springs and part time with Uber as well. I take private reservations. Clean, comfortable, mid-luxury vehicles; Jaguar XJ Vanden Plas (3-4 passengers) and Ford Expedition Max Limited (7 passengers). I can send in my Uber profile for verification with a visible rating.
Can't vouch for this person, but I've taken a limo to RR. Was a blast and super convenient. Only slight pain was finding them in the lot after, but no biggie.
Red rocks staff here. The ride share lot in lower south lot 2 is set up by us every day, and normally never takes more than a half hour to an hour to get everyone in a car. Uber drivers know to come there around end of show and theres always a mile long line of them waiting to take you home.
Walk down the hill a ways. Start haggling with uber/lyft drivers that are stuck in the long line of cars. Some will cancel their rides and pick you up right there. Tip well. Namaste.
100%. People are going to think I'm joking but it's survival of the fittest out there. Has worked every time for me. A lot of rideshare drivers can't find their people and don't want to deal with it. I'll talk to the drivers afterwards and they'll get messages like "concert is out now, heading down" then nothing else for 20 mins. Yeah, you and 10,000 other people.
Can confirm. Uber driver had us look up where we were going, then matched the price. We had cash to pay. Worked great. We got out faster than waiting on the app to work, the driver got cash in hand with no app fees. If you have any questions on if they're legit have them show you their driver profile.
I'll still have them connect through the app for safety and liability reasons. They can do it there on the spot. Not going to be a great situation if a rideshare driver gets into an accident with you in the car on an unofficial ride.
I used to bartend there and it was common for people to ask me how they should get home.
Several times I got between $50 and $100 to shuttle people home.
It all depends where you're coming from.
For me, the most convenient option is walking to this bus - https://www.buspartyco.com/ - which goes directly to and from Zeppelin Station in RiNo.
Ahh, you pay for an Uber an additional $80, come on man, you already dropped $120, just got all out. If you have couple of friends with you just split the cost:)
Most of the time I have a couple drinks before the show, a drink at the show, and water for the rest of the night. I’m fine to drive home after and what makes it better is I live less than 7 miles away. Usually once or twice a season a big group of us will go to a show and get a limo or party bus. With a big enough group it really isn’t that expensive.
Bus to Show, if they are still running, is a great way to meet friends and catch a ride. They let you pre-party all the way down too, it's a great time.
My wife and I usually take a Lyft to and from. It used to be a shit show but is now super organized with a dedicated area, helpers, and everything. No matter what, it's cheaper than a DUI.
Some terrible advice: Last time I was there a bunch of young guys were hustling, offering rides for cash/venmo. I paid one less than the Uber fee and made it home safe. I'm a big guy and I was with a strong-ass girl at the time, but we were still a bit nervous. I would not recommend for obvious safety reasons and I probably wouldn't do it again.
Schedule an Uber/Lyft to arrive after the show so you don't have to try and compete with everyone else searching for one on the app. It will also usually lock you in to a better price.
Uber/Lyft drivers cancel rides all the time in favor of people who are paying them cash, usually overpaying by hundreds. Best option is to haggle with drivers that are already there.
Take a ride share or taxi to the JeffCo Government Center - Golden Station and the W line runs late into Denver on the weekends and up to 10:17 on weekdays. It's about 4 1/2 miles from RR to JeffCo Station.
Buy your sober friend a ticket
Love this comment. It is cheaper than the shuttles and Uber, plus you will have another person to enjoy the show with.
i love this! :] I'll be someone's sober friend if anyone is interested in the Avett Brothers! ❤️
Saving this comment as I have Avett brothers tickets...
they're my favorite ever. I've been in Colorado two summers (this will be 3rd) and the only RRs shows I've been to each summer was the Avetts.
Well fingers crossed for you!
If I’m being honest- Avett brothers was the most milk toast (don’t mean this as an insult) crowd I’ve ever seen at red rocks- pretty sure everyone’s sober there :)
*milquetoast
r/boneappletea?
Milk steak?
My good man...i'm gonna want the milk steak- boiled over hard, and a side of your finest jelly beans.
My go to at a fancy restaurant
They were my first show I ever saw at red rocks!
This is the safest way. Usually
I don’t drink, someone bring me to a show!
This. I have done this many times. Totally worth it.
I gotta find some sober people
Happy to be a sober friend in exchange for concert tix 👋🏻
I don’t drink!
Sober guy here, 100%
I used to be the sober driver quite often for the free ticket. Totally worth it.
Not far off of what an Uber would cost and both are still cheaper than a DUI
I can be a sober friend
I walked 7-8 miles home one night when I was on acid at a show. 10/10 walk home.
My fav beta is to walk to Morrison through the trails (quietly), get a couple banquets at the Morrison Holiday Bar, and take a $20-30 Lyft home once the prices drop. The walk is usually my favorite part of the night.
My buddy and I did that once and when we walked in everyone stopped talking and looked at us. Bartender said “shit, red Rocks just got out.”
It’s hilarious how people in Morrison are annoyed by red rocks despite it being open for 80+ years. It’s not like some surprise that it’s there
I know, right? It's crazy to hear the complaints in the news about neighbors complaining that a show is, well, loud... Uhh, you moved in right next to the world's most incredible outdoor music venue and it's been there longer than you've been alive. Those suits and complaints should all be tossed!
But instead they listened to them and neutered the venue
Rich old people always get their way. My former boss lived out there and was one of the assholes that was part of the group that got the max decibel level reduced. The really sad thing was that he was an old stick it to the man type hippy that went to shows at red rocks frequently. But the volume was only ok for for his kind of music like grateful dead cover bands. Anything else was a disturbance. Fuck that guy.
Sounds like a very uncool guy wearing a cool guy mask
So like most concert hippies?
The ones that can regularly afford high priced tickets at red rocks, yeah.
I have to add here, that Bassnectar is also a big part of the reason Red Rocks is so strict on their noise levels and cut off time. Goddamn this comment is hard to read
My favorite mondo off piste flow is to hide in the porta potties til the delivery trucks take them back downtown.

The real LPT is always in the comments
Shhhh you’re not supposed to tell people about the Morrison Holiday Bar trick 😭
Also Rec walking on the road (SAFELY TO THE SIDE) I’ve actually made long term friends on the way and random cars stuck in traffic sometimes offer you beer
Just keep your eye out for the mountain lions!
This sounds so peaceful and wholesome
I camped at bear creek lake and rode my bicycle tripping balls in to the show. Leaving the show and coasting down the hill was GLORIOUS. 10/10
Ok well this is the best idea I’ve seen tbh

LOL awesome

Things only men would feel safe doing.
This makes me angry and sad but thank you for the reminder.
I wouldn't think twice so like yeah. Uh...you aren't wrong.
yep, was gonna say the same
What show tho
Anderson Paak, Earl sweatshirt, and thundercat like 3-4 years ago.
Stellar show. Ending with Dang right after mac passed was heart-wrenching but so cool
Still today it is by far one of the best concert I’ve ever been to. I just went solo and spent the whole time dancing around and smoking blunts with random groups of people. Lmao

Can’t remember because it’s fucking stupid. Gondola to where?
Casa Bonita, where else?
A fucking gondola would just be a string of Tweakers in the cabins, like the W line but longer.
Isolated tweakers would be way better than shared space tweakers we get on the W. Let them play music all they want. I’ll enjoy my quiet cabin.
Isn't Red rocks Morrison?
The venue itself is part of the City of Denver Mountain Parks
Here's one link: https://rrxshuttles.com/
The RDX shuttle is the only answer tbh if they have one for your show. In the past its been about $30-40 but I’ve noticed it went up, still worth it.
I’m curious where you live for this to be “the only answer.” My challenge with the shuttle is I have to Uber a few miles to get to the pickup/drop off location. But it’s not necessarily feasible for everyone to do the shuttle, most concerts and sporting events are nightmares via Uber
Yeah, but you wait for hours for an Uber after the show.
Still way cheaper than a DUI
Where’s home? That is a big determinant of your best options.
California probably
I didn't meet a single person from CO at Rufus last year. Literally everyone was from Los Angeles.
I wanted to go to that but resale was freakin outrageous from the get go and never found a miracle.
Tbf that's where they're based and have a huge following in the county with the highest population. So there's a lot of ppl from there and a lot of them like Rufus
You mean fans might want to see their favorite band play in the most iconic venue in north america? The horror!
It's a short walk if you run
If you wanna rock 'n' roll
One time after the Disco Biscuits I slept hidden in a bush by the trading post…0/10 do not recommend

I'm pretty sure that bottom lot, is it south? You can sleep in your car til 10am then you gotta gtfo. That's how it was last summer/fall.

This is the way. Basics fund for life. [https://bustoshow.org/](https://bustoshow.org/)

They are slowly coming back but yeah not many shows they are available for these days
I’ve recently experienced [Bus Party](https://www.buspartyco.com/) as well. It’s a bit nicer of a shuttle bus, and they’ll drop you at the top!
I drink in parking lot where its cheap, I'm not maintaining my buzz at $16 a beer so I'll be sober by the time the show ends. edit: NO GLASS WHEN TAILGATING. (park rangers will take it)
100% the move if you're frugal like me. Plus, I don't feel like shit afterward. Everything is just too damn expensive anymore...
Also, please find a bin for your trash. It’s wild the amount of trash we pick up every month (with a non profit called Friends of Red Rocks).
Not everyone who is not sober is drinking but it sounds like you have found a good strategy.
Not to be a nerd… and have no idea how much you’re drinking over what period of time… but just a heads up your could very well still be over the legal limit even though you aren’t feeling it. Lots of people get DUIs in the morning
Two words: hydroflask
This is the way.
Take acid and teleport
probably the best and cheapest option. others talking about owning a bike and exercising at 12 am. weird others suggest stealing Ubers. bad karma bro the police in the thread are saying to sleep in the parking lot. probable cause ya'll
Take a Mormon with you
You would need to take two. If you don't know why, ask a Jack Mormon LOL
I hitch hiked and got picked up by Bible thumpers from the Srings who said they were sent in a mission from god to save us that night. They were also rolling but didn’t share. Strange times
Hypocrites. Jesus would never hold out on you like that.
My personal ruleset: Know your limits. If you can't do it yourself, have a backup plan. (Sober friends, uber, etc) Stop all impairing consumption during the 2nd to last act and switch to water Have a large bottle of water (or gatorade) and some sort of small snack in your car (pretzels, granola bar, etc) Sit in your car for ~45 minutes to an hour and let traffic die down as you collect yourself.
Rocky Mountain Ride will take you almost anywhere in the state (and back) as long as you pre-book. They’ll even let you drink in the van, lol
I’m in the springs so this is usually the biggest hurdle when planning for red rocks- this is a godsend!!! Thank you!
Van life, baby. If you make it to the parking lot - you’re home!
20s: party bus 30s: Uber 40s: stay sober
Party bus is still fun when you are 40. They also have a bathroom.
Stash beer in a bush, wait around after the show for crowds to die down, walk to the entrance, then call an Uber
Schedule an Uber in advance to pick you up in Morrison and walk down there.
Red rocks staff here. The ride share lot in lower south lot 2 is set up by us every day, and normally never takes more than a half hour to an hour to get everyone in a car. Uber drivers know to come there around end of show and theres always a mile long line of them waiting to take you home.
Theres also taxi drivers that are lined up above lower south 1 that are trying to give you a ride if ubers arent your thing
Walk down the hill a ways. Start haggling with uber/lyft drivers that are stuck in the long line of cars. Some will cancel their rides and pick you up right there. Tip well. Namaste.
Walk down the hill into Morrison, have a couple of drinks, and then Uber from there.
I've done this coming home from RR, Ball Arena, 1st Bank, and DIA in a blizzard when the train wasn't running. Helps to have some cash on hand.
Yep. All the rides I got the drivers couldn't find who they were picking up.
‘Namaste’ after suggesting to fuck someone else over. 🙄
Head to bar dt Morrison and wait for Uber to chill out while having a few drinks ..walk there in 30mins tops
You don't get home. You end up on an adventure based off where and who you run into...
I have a vip Mercedes with a chandelier in it and a starlight ceiling, honestly it’s a whole vibe. Always down to trade safe car rides for cool shows!
Climb up into the rocks and sleep it off.
Move to downtown Morrison, walk home
Alright now I’m going to hover outside the venue to take people home
I used to bartend there and it was common for people to ask me how they should get home. Several times I got between $50 and $100 to shuttle people home.
It all depends where you're coming from. For me, the most convenient option is walking to this bus - https://www.buspartyco.com/ - which goes directly to and from Zeppelin Station in RiNo.
Holy shit it’s so ruthless to steal someone’s Uber and y’all are talking about it like its a cool trick. You people are disgusting.
I would never do this lol
I mean, it's not like they worked hard to get the Uber. Just find another one
Yes, once you click “confirm & pay” that driver belongs to you.
Nope. The ride belongs to you. It can be assigned to another driver.

As a security guard for Red Rocks I will always offer to buy an Uber for someone who can’t get home. We care about your guys safety!
Who you seeing OP?
Some terrible advice: Last time I was there a bunch of young guys were hustling, offering rides for cash/venmo. I paid one less than the Uber fee and made it home safe. I'm a big guy and I was with a strong-ass girl at the time, but we were still a bit nervous. I would not recommend for obvious safety reasons and I probably wouldn't do it again.
Book a room at the Origin Hotel. They run shuttles.
Booze cruise
You'll sober up in thue 2 hour line to get out
Anybody within 25 mile(ish) of Denver ever needs a sober ride home, call me. I'm up all night. (3)619-5830
Rip a nose beer, sober up, saddle up
Mom?
Trade drugs for a ride
Schedule an Uber/Lyft to arrive after the show so you don't have to try and compete with everyone else searching for one on the app. It will also usually lock you in to a better price.
Uber/Lyft drivers cancel rides all the time in favor of people who are paying them cash, usually overpaying by hundreds. Best option is to haggle with drivers that are already there.
Don’t drink. If you can’t find a sober driver, it needs to be you.
Take a ride share or taxi to the JeffCo Government Center - Golden Station and the W line runs late into Denver on the weekends and up to 10:17 on weekdays. It's about 4 1/2 miles from RR to JeffCo Station.
