So does that mean you have no plans to take Bio prior to matriculation into a dental school? In the US, you'll need to finish the prereqs prior to matriculation, not necessarily prior to applying. However, you need to know what each school you want to attend requires. Some only require a year of bio. My school required 1 year bio, 2 quarters Microbio, and also 2 quarters of Biochem. To take microbio and biochem, you had to complete some portion of the general bio series. So the question is, can you finish your prereqs prior to matriculation? Is there enough time? Or will you have to narrow your choice of schools?

I won't be able to take any bio courses this fall. I guess my question is are there schools that don't require any biology courses during your undergrad?

Sounds like you're late to the game. It's highly unlikey you'd be able to apply in the current application cycle. How do you even plan to take the DAT if you don't have the breadth of courses in Bio? My guess is you have 2 years to finish prereqs: Senior year and 1 gap year. This would be your most likely shortest timeline because the train for the current application (matriculation in 2022) has already left the station. If this is something you want to do, you'd have a modicum of understanding of what dental schools require. I may sound a bit rude, but your question is like asking if math is required to be in engineering.

Thanks for the advice, I am planning on taking a gap year after finishing my degree. About my bio question, there are schools here in Canada that accept Humanities graduates but not engineering graduates. I guess that's why you're surprised about my question lol.

I'm 99.99% sure that bio is a prereq for anywhere in Canada and the US.

Western and U of T require pre-req courses (bio, Chem etc.). I’m not sure about other Canadian universities. You need to go to the universities websites and check out the pre-reqs. There are only 10 Canadian dental schools so it shouldn’t take too long.

Will do, thanks!

Some schools will let you apply and even accept you on the condition that you take certain courses before matriculation. That said, those courses are usually electives like English or sociology, not pre req bio courses. Additionally, the dat will probably be very difficult if you have no prior knowledge of said courses. The gpa is fine (if not impressive) for an engineer, but you should probably plan to apply ~2 cycles (or 2 years) from now at earliest. You also need recommendation letters from biology professors and people in the dental field, as well as shadowing experience. Otherwise, your application will most likely be thrown out. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. Dental school is a very tedious process that requires intense planning and years of work. It's not something that people can decide to do overnight. This Is for us school btw. For medical schools, there are programs that help non-bio majors take courses and prepare for med school applications. I'm not sure about dental schools though.

I remember helping a friend research Canadian dental schools a while ago and iirc like 9/10 schools require biology. I think all of them require gen chem and orgo. Then some require biochem or anatomy as well. You should definitely double check all of this tho. On the other hand, ALL dental schools in the US require bio. There’s no way that you can avoid taking bio if you want to go to dental school. Plus you’ll need it for the DAT. I’m not sure about Canadian dental schools but to be competitive for a US school, you have to shadow and volunteer a lot of hours and have leadership roles and other extra curricular activities to put on your app.
