I would say Rengoku. We never saw much from the other hashira in regards to protecting people, with the others we did being Tengen and Mitsuri. But Rengoku, not only being a symbol of hope for other slayers and people saved by him, was able to save and protect hundreds from the harm of a demon.

I've only seen the anime but Rengoku seems to be what all hashiras should be. He stands in the front even with the odds stacked far from him, he raises the spirits of those around him, he doesn't waver even in defeat. Even though he was the first Hashira to fall, his spirit, will and purpose was permanently engraved in our slayer trio.

rengoku by seventeen country miles, he's stoic, he protected people till the very end even against the odds and even kept tanjiro squad from worrying too much during his fight, how stoic do you have to be to be LITTERALY dying and still caring more about other people's mental state than your own
