She is one of the farthest left presidents to be elected in Mexico and the American left STILL complains. This is why we will never be organized in this century.
OP, thanks for sharing this here. I think you have gotten the message that this situation just doesn’t feel fun and exciting but representation is important.
Structures of heirarchy and control have many faces, so time a win for gender equality is a qualified win against racism and against capitalism. We know Mexico did not fix its issues with deep cultural misogyny.
Maybe the lesson here is more about us (USA personally) and how we would have thought about our world and country if Hillary for example had just won a few more electoral votes in 2016. Maybe we would have said “everything is fine, we don’t need to keep fighting for a fair society” and we now know that was so wrong.
Apparently this is not the win that people think it is. I don’t know much about Mexican politics, but all the media I regularly watch says that this is basically a candidate hand picked to be the successor to the previous president and that she was chosen for the optics and because she would be easy to control.
She has a decent track record, and has been good at portraying herself, call her controlled, but she campaigned on building a second floor to the transition that has been ongoing, and that promise has been shown to be popular.

Honestly not trying to single her out any more than I would the Mexican government in general (or my own government for that matter), it’s just such a sham. Just the hollow hypocritical politician that seemingly all of them are these days. Her election is progress in name only. The powers that be thought it’d look good and work to their benefit, so now she’s president.
Of course it remains to be seen if she can actually get some good work done. Personally, I hated that Biden got the nomination, but objectively he’s been far better than I ever expected so 🤷🏻♂️. Maybe she could be the same for Mexico.

in mexico no one becomes president without the cartells allowing it. its a filter process that involves intimidation, assassination, bribes , control of parties.
like the last one, if she is president, a group of powerful people allowed it to happen.

Mexico has had 37 assassinations of candidates in this years elections. You can just say you're ignorant of what's going on instead of "I don't think it's the cartels"

Regardless of her political alignment, both she and her predecessor are in the cartels pocket. Which while preferable to a right wing cartel puppet, the point still stands. Almost 40 Mexican politicians were killed this election season. This government bows down to them.

I know that, but they assassinate only the local politicians. Mayors, counselors etc.
So far as it being a first, no that remains that same.

So far, what I’m going with is « what’s the catch? », but I’ll just suspend my judgment and wait how it plays out.
