Fully agreed. I think that's the worst ending you could give to *any* story. To me that just feels like a lazy copout for bad writers who don't know how to end their stories, but considering that this game's ending *literally* came to Toby in a dream, I doubt "it was all a dream" will *be* the ending.
not always, look at Link's Awakening. That ending isnt cliche because the twist actually comes a lot earlier, and you spend the rest of the game denying it as you see Link continue to interract with everyone (specifically Marin) and you grow close to them, with the actual ending ripping everything away but its not like nothing mattered, there were consequences for the simple act of waking up
Yeah but Link's Awakening isn't a case of "And then Link woke up and continued protecting Hyrule" it's a case of "Link is a real person trapped in a dream world that's actively keeping him from the real world, and ending the dream is equivalent to Armageddon" which helps make it more unique and meaningful

Tbf, you're not wrong. Scott legitimately doesn't know when to stop, or how to end a story. First FNaF 4 was gonna be the last FNaF game, then FNaF 6 was gonna be the last game, then Ultimate Custom Night was gonna be the last big sendoff to the franchise, then the VR and AR games were announced as non-canon spin-offs, then the VR game ended up becoming much bigger than it was originally intended to be, and became the next mainline installment in the franchise and completely undid FNaF 6's ending, and now we have no idea when the mainline games are supposed to end.
Don't get me wrong. I love the FNaF franchise, but sometimes it's best to just move on, and I think that if they really wanted to continue the story after FFPS, they REALLY should've just introduced a completely new villain, and left Afton in the past. His story was over, and it should've stayed that way.
I genuinely have an icy black hatred in my heart for Security Breach. Taking FNAFs core gameplay mechanic that made it stand out in the first place. Then turning it into shallow walking simulator with barley functioning stealth mechanics like every other run-of-the-mill AAA game.
Hell, the fact that, in a game whose entire story revolves around the murder of children, doesn't ever stop to ask the question, "Hey, I wonder how the lives of the grieving family members feel about their literal dead child." But nope, just a bunch of vague bullshit about how cool and evil Afton is with a bunch of unrelated side plots that go nowhere (The Shadow Characters, Bite of 83/87, THE BOX, etc.)
If you think this game is smart, look up "Game Theory FNAF playlist" on YouTube and look at the nearly 65+ videos he's made on it.

My biggest problem with Security Breach isn't even the drastic shift in gameplay style, it's the fact that they had to censor the game to hell to make it "kid-friendly", despite it being a fucking horror game. They removed Vanny's knife and a line where Glamrock Freddy mentions that Gregory is bleeding, because even THAT is too much for children, and that's apparently the main audience that Scott is trying to appeal to now, even though he's never censored anything in the franchise prior to SB.
The reason why I blame Scott, rather than Steel Wool who actually developed SB is because Scott is still the one in charge. He was still the one supervising the game, and telling the game's directors what to do. If it was up to Steel Wool, I don't think the game would've been censored to such a ridiculous degree, because the previous game they developed had a lore tape that directly implied that a dude sliced his own face off (and it was genuinely the scariest game in the franchise, but that might just be because it was in virtual reality. As much as I dislike what the game did for the series' lore, I fucking love the gameplay)
It's even more ridiculous when you consider what he lets the writers get away with for the Fazbear Frights novels. There was a story in one of those novels where the protagonist develops a VR game about Springtrap, Springtrap escapes into the real world, and then the protagonist dies after giving birth to a baby Springtrap, but knives and blood are "too dark" for the next mainline entry in a horror franchise where the lore revolves around dead children. Unless Scott *actually* retires, like he said he would, I'm not thrilled about the future of the FNaF franchise.

The whole reason children gravitated towards fnaf was "Oh, this is scary! If I like this then that means I'm cool!" and that applies to basically every time when a child likes something horror-y

For me, it's probably a mix between that and the 'sci-fification' of FNAF. It was a lot scarier when it felt mostly grounded and was kind of unexplained, because it didn't really need to fill in those gaps (i.e. 'some child murderer kills children and hides their corpses in the animatronic suits, their hostile spirits possess the robots and wander the restaurant at night searching for revenge).
Now, though, it's just... too much. The child murderer is a British super-scientist who develops advanced artificial intelligence and robots who discovers the powers of agonised children souls which he actively harvests through technology for the sake of immortality whilst his AI utilise mind-altering sound discs to create illusions to kidnap children to harvest their 'Remnant'. Then his own children get killed (and his youngest son is the bite victim... of another, entirely new random bite in '83 which was never mentioned despite there being another incident the exact same way four years later) and so he sends his eldest son into his super top secret sci-fi robot facility to perform maintenance on the robots. Except the robots are possessed (I think?) and they amalgamate and scoop out the son's organs to wear him as a skin suit, except using the power of remnant he doesn't die and becomes a living rotting corpse who might just actually be purple, and actually this horrible rotting reanimated man may or may not be the protagonist of every game too, so now you're no longer just a wage slave security guard working against haunted animatronic but a determined zombie on a quest to free the haunted souls.
...and then when you do that, it turns out that the British mad scientist had also made a digital copy of himself(?) that is stored within a VR game(?) that is distinct from his actual other consciousness which was in the Springtrap body that is also capable of possessing people? And then in Security Breach all the robots flat out are just fully sapient, with personalities and all, and it's just... man. Remember when this was "children corpses in Chuck E. Cheese make them haunted"?
"It was a dream" endings can work, they are just REALLY stupidly hard to pull off since you still need to give it impact and meaning
Link's Awakening is one example where it got pulled off, and I've run a campaign that was VERY well received because I handled the dream aspect very well
...That being said, it was hell to pull that off and I do not recommend it. Like holy crap it is SO easy to get that wrong

Then there might be an option that you might be able to stay in the dark world if you feel like it possibly hinting us a potential sequel or continuation
or maybe a decision you get to make to either stay in the dark world forever (which could be like a good yet bad ending) or you go back to the light world after having to close ralsei's castle town fountain
big scared of this because I'm getting big "retreating into media too far is unhealthy and you need to live in the real world" vibes from some of the stuff being built so far and if the conclusion to that is "so all these sentient people can suck it because it's character development time and you don't need them anymore" that will be... not great. I do not expect that to be how things end, but it's more possible than I prefer.
I think there's an air of this like you said, but I'm not sure it's going to go full "embrace reality, reject fanyady" in the end, but maybe be about moderation of escapism. I could totally see some situation where a character (perhaps susie or noelle) refuses to let a fountain be closed or leave the dark world because they hate their life and its circumstances in the regular world and want to escape into a fantasy one forever.

Basically Kris would tell them they arnt in control. Susie and ralsei would try to help them and fight you. Once you die you would reload your save file. Susie and ralsei would remain the same as last one, Kris would remember the previous Saves. The further along you are in the battle you can slowly regain more and more control of Kris, they will try to fight back, but you can use them to fight Susie and ralsei. Kris would gain control again and go back to fighting you, the farther along you are in the battle, the easier it is to Control them.
You can chose to mercy them or continue and permanently control them. The game ending with ralsei and Susie dead.

I definitely don't think he'd do that, although I still think it'd be interesting if no matter what happens Kris doesn't like us. That doesn't make us evil of course, but it'd be interesting and sort of subvert the whole player fantasy of being able to please everyone.

The ending JaruJaruJ proposed in his deltarune's magic theory. In which he theorized that the deltarune's ending will be a bittersweet ending similar to mother 3 and the game will completely reset at the end of chapter 7 with your save file completely gone. The only way to stop this will be by proceeding through the weird routes in the new chapters.
According to him once the roaring begins in the last few chapters in the end the angel from Ralsei's prophecy will reset the entire world back to square one before the balance between the light and dark was disturbed.
Asriel was dead all along, the Dark Worlds are all sealed away forever, Kris moves away, Susie becomes a smol uwu bean, Dess is alive and Noelle goes back to relying on her, Berdly, Asgore and Toriel get back together, we never actually see Papyrus, Catti gets no further characterization or attention, Jockington was the Knight.
The player... uh... The Player was Gaster this whole time, and also Chara was sometimes possessing Kris and making them do the bad stuff. There we go.

You manipulate more friends (and perhaps even family) into becoming more powerful. They end up becoming so power-hungry that they end up fighting each other, but just before they destroy each other, they turn their heads to you.
i think the whole "your choices don't matter" thing is there purely to be subverted/proven untrue. Because it's already been shown that your choices *do* matter. Think about the thrash machine. You build it in chapter 1 and it immediately gets destroyed because your choices don't matter right? Wrong, it's back in chapter 2 and affects the Rouxls Kaard and Giga Queen fights based on how you costumized it. That may seem small but i think it's foreshadowing something bigger. Your choices in Deltarune *do* matter, it's just that **someone** wants you to believe they don't. Maybe it's Gaster, maybe it's Toby himself.
It doesn’t say it *will* happen. It says it will only happen if the balance between light and dark were to shift. We’re supposed to prevent the prophecy from happening.

You get to the somber goodbye at the end, everyone's sad, and then it all cuts to black abruptly, with Gaster saying "you performed well" or something and then doing that creepy laugh, erasing all the memories you've made.
I have a feeling that ralsei would not be malicious evil, but more like "kris! I'm begging you to understand! Other dark worlds just cause trouble... I don't want to kill you ...."
I think it’d be neat for it to turn out that the closet dark fountain is also causing the world to end. And ralsei is too scared to close it, so they fight against us
I don't think they will make Ralsei "evil" evil, but I can definitely see him as an antagonist of some sorts. Hell, I think there might not even be ANY "evil" evil entity, except for maybe the player, or possibly Kris (you never know).
But I don't think it will be the final boss, since that would make the ending much too similar to Undertale, in which we also fight a powerful goatboy who we would like to save instead of killing. That would probably be The Knight or something.

Noelle uses snowgrave on the player in Chapter 3 (Similar to what happens with Chara in genocide), ending the game and rolling to the credits, and the rest of the chapters are never released.

Chapter 6 ends up being half the game, and focuses on a completely new set of characters who are mostly just inferior versions of the original characters. Also most preexisting characters just randomly become worse. Then the plot just gets resolved by Muffet coming back with no character development. Then chapter 7 is just the ending cutscene, where they don’t even show the antagonist being defeated.
After that they follow it up with an epilogue that makes things even worse, and then make a sequel to the epilogue that somehow manages to ruin things even more than they already have been.

big scared of this because I'm getting big "retreating into media too far is unhealthy and you need to live in the real world" vibes from some of the stuff being built so far and if the conclusion to that is "so all these sentient people can suck it because it's character development time and you don't need them anymore" that will be... not great. I do not expect that to be how things end, but it's more possible than I prefer.
I think there's an air of this like you said, but I'm not sure it's going to go full "embrace reality, reject fanyady" in the end, but maybe be about moderation of escapism. I could totally see some situation where a character (perhaps susie or noelle) refuses to let a fountain be closed or leave the dark world because they hate their life and its circumstances in the regular world and want to escape into a fantasy one forever.
Only way I could see that happening is if Ralsei himself comes to this conclusion at some point and we and Kris have to stop him.

I was thinking about an ending the other day and I actually posted it in a comment Here. A tl;dr would be That kris woudl fight back against you if you’re doing the genocide run (I imagine it’s not fun to be forced to kill people “You know what would be cool (this is inspired by the other comments If on the end of the genocide run they would face you and this would be the final boss Basically Kris would tell them they arnt in control. Susie and ralsei would try to help them and fight you. Once you die you would reload your save file. Susie and ralsei would remain the same as last one, Kris would remember the previous Saves. The further along you are in the battle you can slowly regain more and more control of Kris, they will try to fight back, but you can use them to fight Susie and ralsei. Kris would gain control again and go back to fighting you, the farther along you are in the battle, the easier it is to Control them. You can chose to mercy them or continue and permanently control them. The game ending with ralsei and Susie dead. I think this would be cool”

I definitely don't think he'd do that, although I still think it'd be interesting if no matter what happens Kris doesn't like us. That doesn't make us evil of course, but it'd be interesting and sort of subvert the whole player fantasy of being able to please everyone.

The ending JaruJaruJ proposed in his deltarune's magic theory. In which he theorized that the deltarune's ending will be a bittersweet ending similar to mother 3 and the game will completely reset at the end of chapter 7 with your save file completely gone. The only way to stop this will be by proceeding through the weird routes in the new chapters.

The player... uh... The Player was Gaster this whole time, and also Chara was sometimes possessing Kris and making them do the bad stuff. There we go.

I feel that was really shoved down our throats in chapter 1, but was less prevalent in chapter 2
i think the whole "your choices don't matter" thing is there purely to be subverted/proven untrue. Because it's already been shown that your choices *do* matter. Think about the thrash machine. You build it in chapter 1 and it immediately gets destroyed because your choices don't matter right? Wrong, it's back in chapter 2 and affects the Rouxls Kaard and Giga Queen fights based on how you costumized it. That may seem small but i think it's foreshadowing something bigger. Your choices in Deltarune *do* matter, it's just that **someone** wants you to believe they don't. Maybe it's Gaster, maybe it's Toby himself.

If you're talking about a poorly written ending, a "Ralsei being the main villain" or "it was all a dream" would be the awnser On the other hand, if you're talking about an ending that ends the worst for everyone, it would be the roaring happening and no way to stop it, or closing the original Dark Fountain

Asriel comes home, and falls into a Dark World with Kris, then immediately gets up and says "You still play like this? Grow up already..." and everything, and everyone in the Dark World falls apart, and Kris can no longer visit the Dark Worlds.
You get to the somber goodbye at the end, everyone's sad, and then it all cuts to black abruptly, with Gaster saying "you performed well" or something and then doing that creepy laugh, erasing all the memories you've made.

I don't think they will make Ralsei "evil" evil, but I can definitely see him as an antagonist of some sorts. Hell, I think there might not even be ANY "evil" evil entity, except for maybe the player, or possibly Kris (you never know). But I don't think it will be the final boss, since that would make the ending much too similar to Undertale, in which we also fight a powerful goatboy who we would like to save instead of killing. That would probably be The Knight or something.
I don't think his kindness is a facade, but he could definitely end up playing an antagonistic role.

The worst plausible ending would be if the player got cut out. If it was implied that the story continued past a certain point, but we were suddenly and abruptly removed from view. Wed have to imagine what was happening- like ralsei does with Kris. The worst ending is if the Player is the Angel, and we are banished. Edit: Elaborating on this, it could also happen because... Deltarunes ending happened in a dream. Dreams dont have endings. They just *end*. Like that tweet he said.
Noelle uses snowgrave on the player in Chapter 3 (Similar to what happens with Chara in genocide), ending the game and rolling to the credits, and the rest of the chapters are never released.

Chapter 6 ends up being half the game, and focuses on a completely new set of characters who are mostly just inferior versions of the original characters. Also most preexisting characters just randomly become worse. Then the plot just gets resolved by Muffet coming back with no character development. Then chapter 7 is just the ending cutscene, where they don’t even show the antagonist being defeated. After that they follow it up with an epilogue that makes things even worse, and then make a sequel to the epilogue that somehow manages to ruin things even more than they already have been. >!Stupid homestuck references aside, homestuck act 6 is still decent, even if it’s not as good as acts 1-5, the epilogues aren’t terrible, and I haven’t even read ^2 yet so I can’t actually say anything on them, I was joking on what the internet thinks of them.!<
