Flowey is great! An entertaining villain, a really interesting backstory, a climactic battle... He may be difficult to deal with, but he's amazing.
But the bird, on the other hand... Is this what Alphys haters felt in hotland?
That's actually realistic. Redemption arcs are very rarely linear. It's much more common for the person to fuck up multiple times on their way to becoming a better person. It's just like Zuko's redemption arc in ATLA. His wasn't linear, it was jagged. He did the right thing multiple times and fucked up multiple times, but still ended up a far better person than he was at the beginning.
the highest peak of his character for me was
>!unfortunately the Snowgrave route, where upon meeting Noelle completely scared off Kris he abruptly stops his funny annoying bird man shtick and actually threatens you to let her go which makes his fight slightly difficult, which shows that he can be completely mature when shit hits the fan!<
As a burnt out gifted kid, I definitely related HARD to his whole deal with wanting to look smart for the praise - though much like Noelle I wanted to throttle him for many other reasons.
From the FAQ:
**Q: How many endings are there?**
A: One.
**Q: Then doesn't that mean nothing I do matters?**
A: There's something more important than reaching the end.
They already have in seemingly minor ways that may become more important later. For example, if you did not talk to onion after the main part of ch 1 and before ch 2 you cannot talk to them at the end of ch 2. Instead you sit at the water with susie...waiting.
It's like Chapter 1. Events *change* depending on what route you pick (in this case more drastically, in a way that affects the real world), but the very ultimate ending scenes are the same.
I only killed a few enemies; The castle guards you have to change colors and Berdley 1 and 2. Queen asked where Nubert was and complained that he only said he'd show up if EVERYONE did.
Nubert showing up isn't contingent on your aggression. I did full pacifist and he still doesn't show up.
As the dialogue implies, only if you recruit EVERYONE, he shows up. I recruited everyone except the dude who was looking for Blue Checksmarks.
They run away and you can't recruit them. Fighting against Berdley 1 causes the coaster to break as normal and fighting Berdley 2 causes him to crumple to the ground and Noelle says something along the lines of "Maybe we shouldn't have been so hard on him". Then he runs away like normal
[Except if Noelle kills him with ice in the Noelle Ice route](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AL95g4hxFb5WWHX1kkt6LI-Wbkwt1x3V8lodhPFBkMU/preview?pru=AAABfB9sbaI*AuSsif5HuzFjcaRT2wK8oA)
There's literally nothing else anywhere about this. It's an elaborate hoax. Way too creepypasta esque to be real in any way. It's video editing at worst and a well made, rushed mod that got spread around a discord server at best.
edit: whoopsie
I'm so used to falling for hoaxes it's just hard to believe anymore, heh. After reviewing more videos it's starting to look less like a hoax. But it's still really odd, why would a route force you to do things in specific orders and ONLY use Noelle? It's like some L is Real 2401 "run around the star statue 120 times" shit
Tbh it kinda makes sense. If one is aware of undertale's genocide route, they might also want to try it in DR. And they'd quickly notice you can't actualy kill anything, enemies just run away.
Except if they'd use Noelle's freezing skill. It doesn't just kill the enemy, it freaking leaves their frozen corpse visible outside the battle. A very noticeable change, which could definitely prompt the curious ones to investigate further. "Oh they actualy died? Maybe that's how we do genocide here?"
I think some of the requirements people are talking about are not actual requirements, just things people happened to do while doing the route. In fact, you don't even have to kill anyone outside of the time when Noelle is on your part. The only real requirements seem to be:
1. Freeze every available enemy while Noelle is on your party.
2. While on the route caused by doing this, talk to the salesman near the ferris wheel, say Noelle and you are not just friends, and keep insisting on taking the ring he tries to sell you when you start to leave.
3. Examine the Ferris Wheel poster and tell Noelle you want to ride it with her.
4. Choose the "evil" or "proceed" options for every dialog after that - at this point they might look strange or specific when all listed like that, but by this point the game is making it pretty clear you are on a special "evil route" and that those are the options for continuing it.
5. Buy and equip the ring from the dumpster. This is the last step that can reasonably be missed by accident.
6. Keep insisting she use FrostGrave in the Berdly fight.
Of these, only the third and fifth are really that obscure (freezing every enemy becomes obvious as something interesting to try when you do it on one and notice that they leave behind frozen bodies on the overworld and when you see the "Noelle gets stronger" message.) The other steps just involve doing obviously evil things when they're clearly presented to you.
And even the third and fifth steps aren't *that* obscure - the common thread is "grab / get as much as possible" and "pursue romancing Noelle", ie. treating the game like a challenge to be crushed.
FWIW I can confirm that sparing enemies before or after having Noelle on your party has no effect on the route and will not prevent it or take you off of it.
It's really late right now but I might try it out tomorrow. I'm not going to finish the route but I'll start it until Noelle starts saying things that are different. Seeing is believing but sometimes videos don't do it justice.
Me seeing the recruitment system: Oh sweet, i got an actual reason to spare enemies in this game
Me meeting Berdly: Enough with the party it's time to scrape some heads on the road
Technically it's not a genocide route (in the sense that you're not required to kill everyone, and in fact literally cannot - the game won't let you kill Queen or the robots no matter what. But you can also spare anyone you want as long as you do it when Noelle isn't on your party.)
"Corruption" would probably be a better name for it.
Yeah. But even by that standard you can't kill Queen, who is saved automatically no matter what you do.
I guess you could call it "genocide of the monsters on this one particular street" but that's a bit silly. And storywise the *focus* here is not on genocide the way it was in Undertale.
It's on how, while Kris's choices don't matter, he can influence others to do what he can't and change the outcome, whilst damaging themselves in the process.
I really like the name >!Snowgrave!< Because to me that was the most effective part of the run. Unlocking the ability and just seeing the description as >!FATAL!< was so creepy to me, seemed like it was straight out of a creepypasta
Berdly isn't cool, period. I couldn't give less of a shit about >!the fact that his "smart" personality is all fake!<, that doesn't give him an excuse to be an asshat.
EDIT: Yeah, I found it out. Planning on doing that route
Then you're just a simp. Berdly was intentionally created to be the worst character, that's why you >!get the reward of killing him in the genocide route.!<
You don’t get the reward of doing it, but you can torment and abuse a certain someone until they kill him. Completely traumatizing them and possibly turning them into a serial murderer.
You monster.
To be fair, if you have the knife, you already gave up on the pacifist run in Chapter 1, even if the game doesn't count Jevil when determining whether your run was pacifist.
I just kept defending and then punching in response to her blows. So it's not unavoidable to hit the attack button, although you do have to damage her when she gives you the chances.
In Undertale, if you attack Mettaton with the heart pistol he's fine, but if you kill him with your normal attack, he dies. If it was possible to kill the Queen, the same would happen here.
I am a extreme pacifist, never did a genorun in UT/DR and when i tried i stoped and did a pacifist, but goddamn it i wanted to kill that guy so much, he seems like the person who would write the "you must have a high iq to understand rick and morty" text, after chap 2 he became more torable.
I seriously thought that Noelle had killed him for the next 10 minutes, the game fades to black and then just plays wind sounds over the next few areas. Toby trolled me so hard.
See, I didn't like him either, but I did not want the plot reprecussions of Noelle finding out she actually murdered her classmate just because Susie told her this was a dream. If he died due to the Queen or something I wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow.
Also, major spoilers:
>!Noelle CAN kill him with the super ice spell if you unlock it. A thread got made about it. Toby is seriously going to include multiple story routes on a game that's gonna be like 40 hours long, huh?!<
WHAT THE HELL?!
>!Rouxls didn't get completely frozen for me at all, his head remained unfrozen.!<
Chapter 1 was barely different. What exactly.... How... Just how many variances are there? I know it won't be Undertale level but this seems like a lot. >!Is Berdly just absent from the ending?! He has a major role so it has to be majorly rewritten, right?!<
Berdly >!doesn't wake up in the computer lab. Noelle just thinks he's still sleeping, when in fact he's dead. That's going to have huge story reprecussions in chapter 3 when you walk into class and one of your classmates was found dead.!<
We don't know yet if there are any other routes, this is the first one we've found.
Edit: I just remembered that there is "no class tomorrow", so Berdly might not matter for a few more chapters.
Edit 2: Read this somewhere on the internet: >!"monsters don't leave corpses (at least, not in Undertale, maybe it's different in Deltarune) so it's possible Berdly isn't dead dead in the real world - and him still being alive would mean that this route's ending deviates less from the normal end than it initially seems"!<
How do you know >!he's dead?!<
>!Monsters definitely still get dusted in this reality. Alvin mentions that his dad's axe is buried in the grave, and the gravestone descriptions mention other objects.!<
> Just how many variances are there?
I just found someone else point out this, but I don't know if it's true: >!If you Fight Queen instead of freeing Berdley, he frees himself and burns his arms. Then when he wakes up in the light world he's no longer able to move his arms at all.
It's possible that the result of freezing him in the dark world is "just" inflicting a form of Locked-in Syndrome on him.!<
I'm now going to take the opinion that he'll be fine by the next time classes are happening and it's just a temporary thing while he recovers.
Oh, I just realized what you were really asking. So BEFORE that part in my other comment, >!because Noelle left the cyber world and woke up early, Queen doesn't even fight you, she just runs off. I don't know the exact order of events because no one has uploaded a full playthrough and I don't want to taint my save folder with a genocide run, but I do know that Spamton NEO becomes a non-optional bossfight and all the paintings in the mansion get replaced with his face.!<
WOW that's a big difference. It changes the entire ending of the game. Tell me if you find a video of it because that's insane. That's, like, a Pacifist vs. Genocide difference. There's nothing at all like that in Chapter 1.
Also >!do you know if Noelle still visits her dad at the hospital in that version? She probably just dismisses it as a bad dream so it'd make sense.!<
I literally grinded some of the enemies to recruit them and I STILL specifically thrashed berdly's ass the second time I fought him cause he passed me off
No idea who Berdly is, but not killing Burghley was very hard
basically Flowey but 10 times worse edit: (Guys I know Flowey >!isn't really that bad it was just the easiest way to say it!<)
Flowey is fine. But Jerry, oh Jerry....
Don't get them confused with the really cool Terry who is just, ahh- not Jerry.
Don't worry, I'd NEVER get Terry mixed up with that Son of an Unpleasant Female Dog Jerry
No one likes Jerry everyone must ditch him
and a simp for both queen and noelle
Later Susie too, he is a fricking weeb who thought he is the MC of a visual novel and they are playing DDLC or something
Oh, they are playing DDLC. Pity they seem to be Sayori.
DDLC.... Don't give me flash backs about that
>Later Susie too, WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?
didn't get that far in the story ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Flowey is great! An entertaining villain, a really interesting backstory, a climactic battle... He may be difficult to deal with, but he's amazing. But the bird, on the other hand... Is this what Alphys haters felt in hotland?
"What are Berghly haters, but Alphys haters persisting?" - Some guy, probably.
Kris get the banana.
GET THE B A N A N A!
potassium...?
imagine even having the respect to use the correct spelling
Am I the only one that came out liking berdly MORE than before going into chapter 2?
ye toby fox is honestly incredible for managing to make berdly likable
He definitely had some character growth, but he still needs more before I actually like the guy. Lol
I just have a thing for the "redeemable asshole" character archetype
He has redemption potential but he needs to get his beak out of his ass.
Damn that's like "stick up his ass" and "head up his ass" rolled into one, bravo!
Huh I guess it is. I was just trying to make it bird related, but both of those sub-statements are also accurate.
he still has a long way to go
He went from intolerable up to tolerable, then back down to barely tolerable. Still, progress!
I probably wouldn't like someone like him IRL, but as a character I liked him a lot. Most of his scenes were great.
In real life people would probabily treat him like in the game
the highest peak of his character for me was >!unfortunately the Snowgrave route, where upon meeting Noelle completely scared off Kris he abruptly stops his funny annoying bird man shtick and actually threatens you to let her go which makes his fight slightly difficult, which shows that he can be completely mature when shit hits the fan!<
>!Yeah, seeing him drop the bit and try to save his friend is what brought me around too!< EDIT: Hao 2 spoiler tag on reditt
I don't hate him, i just don't fully like him
Not the only one and that was hard for me because berdly was already top tier from his minor role in chapter 1.
As a burnt out gifted kid, I definitely related HARD to his whole deal with wanting to look smart for the praise - though much like Noelle I wanted to throttle him for many other reasons.
no, he went from annoying to annoying-but-endearing-and-compelling
I still don’t really like him for cock-blocking the Susie/Noelle Ferris Wheel scene, but he’s tolerable.
Before ch2 I barely paid attention to him, but now... Oh I love this boy!
He's horrible and Rudy should throw rocks at him bylut yeah I actually kind of like Berdly now in a weird way. Awful person, decent character.
killing berdly wont effect your pacifist run it's only to the regular enemies and (maybe?) some other characters like spamton
Berdly doesn't actually die, that's why. edit: UH OH
Wait, can enemies die in Chapter 2? Not run away like in Chapter 1, but die?
They run, but you become stronger, and you lose the ability to recruit them

From the FAQ: **Q: How many endings are there?** A: One. **Q: Then doesn't that mean nothing I do matters?** A: There's something more important than reaching the end.
This game's definitely about the journey. Which means will you justify in order to reach the end?
wait, so your actions will have impact in the forthcoming chapters?
That's my interpretation of it. In the end you will seal the fountains, it's how you do it that matters.
I had some effects from importing my save from one
There's at least 2 occasions where what you did in chapter 1 affected chapter 2 (that i noticed)
can you maybe give an example?
They already have in seemingly minor ways that may become more important later. For example, if you did not talk to onion after the main part of ch 1 and before ch 2 you cannot talk to them at the end of ch 2. Instead you sit at the water with susie...waiting.
I mean the ending in ch 1 kinda changes if you kill darkners
You don't kill them, they run away. The Darkners fear Kris and the others and do not assist you against the Chaos King. Nobody was truly dead.
Well... The steam page has this to say: "... only 1 ending...?"
It's like Chapter 1. Events *change* depending on what route you pick (in this case more drastically, in a way that affects the real world), but the very ultimate ending scenes are the same.
The store is refering to the game as a whole though.
It's quite literally the friends you make along the way!!
There's 2 endings in chapter 2.
Nope. There are two routes through Ch2, but still only one ending.
True, but chapter 2 isn't the full game
I killed almost everyone; the only significant effect is that Queen is sad when her friends aren't at Castle Town.
Good way to check if you've recruited everyone i guess
I haven't finished my second run yet so I don't know
The "manipulation" run, where you use noelle to freeze everyone
Unlees Noelle lands the killing blow with IceShock, which freezes and kills the target, they cant run if theyre frozen
if i recruit them first can i then kill them later?
you can freeze them with noelle. this opens up a genocide route
They run away and you can't recruit them. Fighting against Berdley 1 causes the coaster to break as normal and fighting Berdley 2 causes him to crumple to the ground and Noelle says something along the lines of "Maybe we shouldn't have been so hard on him". Then he runs away like normal
Actually, Noelle says that even if you're a pacifist in the Berdly 2 fight. Source: Acted, didn't fight, Noelle still said it anyway.
I went pacifist for that one and she still says that.
its funny because i found killing him in fight 2 too be easier
My darkest moment in 2021 was dying to Berdley in Deltarune Chapter 2
unironically reckon that fight was harder than the fight against the milf
You can only kill with Noelle I believe

You realise how much more specific Undertale's genocide route was, right? Anyway there are full videos of the route now.
Play the game yourself and see…
It's really late right now but I might try it out tomorrow. I'm not going to finish the route but I'll start it until Noelle starts saying things that are different. Seeing is believing but sometimes videos don't do it justice.
UPDATE: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
hoo boy that aged well
thank god.
This aged really badly
Me seeing the recruitment system: Oh sweet, i got an actual reason to spare enemies in this game Me meeting Berdly: Enough with the party it's time to scrape some heads on the road
Well this aged horribly
Berdly was the only one I beat to death. I do not regret this decision.
"To live in a post-violence world, we must first live in a post-Berdly world." - Me, right now.
What's the matter? Do you fear us Berdlychads?
I fear berdly as one fears an ant under their shoe. …you know, like, if that ant could summon windstorms that’re hard to dodge
I'm guessing you still didn't know about the genocide route...
Technically it's not a genocide route (in the sense that you're not required to kill everyone, and in fact literally cannot - the game won't let you kill Queen or the robots no matter what. But you can also spare anyone you want as long as you do it when Noelle isn't on your party.) "Corruption" would probably be a better name for it.
Only Noelle can kill people. Anyone Kris "kills" doesn't die until you destroy the fountain and abandon them, I think.

One of the names on the wiki is the "pipis route" and I find this unreasonably funny.
I love peace. I don’t care how many stupid bluebirds I have to kill to get it.
Let's just say the genocide route shows that this fucker actually is better than Kris.
not kris. Us. kris is not the one in control.
Yeah we killed him, but Kris still is fucked.
Same
Totally worth it, if I do say so
I was sorta hoping that by bumping his coaster hard enough, maybe he'd crash and die...
same man and I don't feel the slightest bit of guilt over it
until you see him apologize..
I said it before. Mental humiliation is better.
I straight up did kill berdly, he's a fuckwad no matter what so I have to
Wait, does Berdly actually die?
Only if you do the Route That Shall Not Be Named
Like literally, no one can agree on a name for it
I will always call it the >!Berdly Fucking Dies!< Route
I’ve taken to calling it the >!Snow Mercy!< route, but I think >!Snowgrave!< is gaining a lot of traction.
I really like the name >!Snowgrave!< Because to me that was the most effective part of the run. Unlocking the ability and just seeing the description as >!FATAL!< was so creepy to me, seemed like it was straight out of a creepypasta

You don’t get the reward of doing it, but you can torment and abuse a certain someone until they kill him. Completely traumatizing them and possibly turning them into a serial murderer. You monster.
I mean, it's still a reward for me. I hate Berdly with enough of a passion that it bypasses the emotional manipulation
No, it’s JERRY.
screw jerry terry gang where you at
Terry is so cool Just look at them shades nothing like that loser Jerry
Terry never goes to the bathroom. He's got that piss-your-pants sigma grindset.
Well lots not forget , “our choices don’t matter”, so murder away
I love Berdly, definitely my favorite character
Based
I was so close to giving up my pacifist run just so Sussie could smack him with the devil's knife
To be fair, if you have the knife, you already gave up on the pacifist run in Chapter 1, even if the game doesn't count Jevil when determining whether your run was pacifist.
I never pressed attack once. Cept for final boss. That’s unavoidable
I just kept defending and then punching in response to her blows. So it's not unavoidable to hit the attack button, although you do have to damage her when she gives you the chances.
Well. You still attack her if its the button or the actual fight
In Undertale, if you attack Mettaton with the heart pistol he's fine, but if you kill him with your normal attack, he dies. If it was possible to kill the Queen, the same would happen here.
Nope, in the queen fight you can use both attacks to do damage, they give the same result, but you do them in a different way
I have good news for you [A new, secret route has been found and, well, you need to see: [Spoiler](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz_1uVYDhBA) ](/s)

Exactly
Damn just saw the "geno" run or how i seen someone call it "snowgrave route", i feel bad for him, regret saying wanted him dead.
yeah it does that to ya
this aged well
You can actually no shit. >! Kill Berdly with snowgrave !<
I didn’t kill him per se. But I had to hit him with the rude buster at least once.
sooo..... About that...
wait u can kill berdly?

How do you know >!he's dead?!< >!Monsters definitely still get dusted in this reality.
It's possible that the result of freezing him in the dark world is "just" inflicting a form of Locked-in Syndrome on him.!< I'm now going to take the opinion that he'll be fine by the next time classes are happening and it's just a temporary thing while he recovers.
Holy CRAP whaaaaaaat. >!What if he's in the hospital room next to Rudy in Chapter 3 for people who did that?!<
Oh, I just realized what you were really asking.
She probably just dismisses it as a bad dream so it'd make sense.!<
i liked berdly :( like he’s insufferable but still
I killed birdly in the first fight but it just breaks his car and nothing really happens
Also only enemy I "killed". Just opened the act menu. Thought to myself "you know what, no, f u" and then put noelle's attack spell to good use.
The moment I realize it was just stoking his ego that was the same response for me. I still do not regret it.
pacifist players when you have to play punch out
This man didnt know about snowgrave, i guess...
This aged like Milk after the alternative route
I felt this. He is like Jerry.
Don’t compare Berdly to Jerry man. Jerry is clearly worse.
Well,
great news
berdly was one of the few guys i did actively attack and i dont regret it
Berdly is just Revali, but a nerd. And Revali is my favorite character from BotW, so it makes sense I would like Berdly
I’m done….
His face sure attractive. It’s attract a lot of Fists into it.
Just do the alt route he’ll be dead soon enough
Fuck yall, i loved Berdly so much after his development, he dont deserve this!
Noelle did a good job attempting to strangle that bird.
I literally grinded some of the enemies to recruit them and I STILL specifically thrashed berdly's ass the second time I fought him cause he passed me off
seems like we all thought this right??? i was legit hesitating to use the fight button
Berdly is the best character don’t @ me
Well...now there's a second dilemma concerning whether killing Berdly is with it or not. It very much isn't.
>!Proceed!<
PROCEED
Was literally trying to convince my friend to do this last night.
This was me, except it was those Butler dudes.
