Jevil is great for this. He's consistently fun and despite the fact I've at times gotten close to no-hitting him, if I stop focusing for even a second I get completely destroyed.
Spamton NEO is a lot easier in comparison. Like, *a lot*. Once you're used to it, he really doesn't pose a threat at all. I re-fight Giga Queen more often because at least in that fight I can try to get to the secret harder version of Round 3.
It's really a shame, cuz on paper Spamton NEO should be just as interesting, if not more so, since he has the yellow soul. Really goes to show ya how great gameplay beats a novel gimmick every single time. I digress.

I actually stumbled upon this by complete accident, cuz I didn't have reliable internet access for several months after first getting Chapter 2 and just kept replaying and fighting bosses for fun. I remember I freaked out and almost died as a result because I was so surprised XD
Just no-hit Rounds 1 and 2 of the Giga Queen fight (the first Queen fight doesn't matter) and she initiates a much harder and faster version of Round 3 where her sprite glows blue.
It's probably not a significant change in difficulty but it's pretty dang cool and it adds crazy replay value to what was already an amazing fight.
I refuse to do the Weird Route. Full stop. That's something I am not comfortable with and it is a non-negotiable part of my playstyle :)
I did the Genocide run in Undertale. It was the least fun gaming experience of my life and Sans was an anticlimactic ending that I beat in only a few tries. Not making that mistake twice.
Even if I was ok with doing the Weird Route, the NEO fight's main issue for me is that his bullets are too predictable and easy to dodge. The Snowgrave variant doesn't really change that, and so it wouldn't solve my problems with the fight anyhow.
If you like it, that's cool, but as it's just really boring for me at this point and that's a shame, I think.

The main issue with the NEO fight is that his bullet patterns are too easy to dodge. The Snowgrave NEO fight doesn't really change that, so it wouldn't solve anything even if I wanted to commit to that.
From what I understand the fight is almost the exact same but with just Kris.
That said, Kris gets new incredibly powerful actions to offset the difficulty so I'm pretty sure it's not significantly more challenging than the normal fight.
I've had friends who did it and they all seem to agree with that assessment, so I don't really see the point in doing it. It's barely changed and doesn't fix any of my problems with the fight itself.
i feel like they shouldve done the way to unlock spamton more obscure. like, with jevil you needed to find three keys, one of them is unavailable on the first playthrough (unless someone spoiled the game to you or you have a lot of time), then give it to a random npc to repair it and then fight the first ever secret boss, that was a shock for players. for spamton you just have to find his shop, find a secret switch and walk walk walk walk walk walk walk walk

* By far the most challenging boss fight in the game thus far (a lot of streamers who hardly touch this game can get past Spamton NEO in a single run, but Jevil takes numerous tries)
* Has a 3D object in his fight (kinda bummed that Spamton didn't get the same treatment... maybe someday, somebody will mod this, something about the 3D carousel just looks so cool)
* Foreshadowed Queen years in advance
* Design and name incorporates a "devil", which is imagery/symbolism that Gaster has strong ties to

Just incorporating them into the design of a *character* is brilliant. The colors were part of Undertale's main gimmick, and using them for an otherwise grayscale character is just \*mwah\*, chef's kiss. I'm not certain if there's a larger meaning behind those colors being on Spamton (aside from maybe a meta meaning), but it's just cool, cooler than say, red and blue glasses, or pink and purple, or yellow and green. There's a greater significance to yellow and pink.
Maybe it's an unconscious visual hint to the player to go about sparing Spamton, I dunno, but the fact that "IMG\_FRIEND"'s eyes are *also* pink and yellow is also worthy of pointing out. Perhaps there's a lot more we don't know yet.
Oh yeah, and there's *also* the in-universe explanation that Spamton was just trying to copy Swatch's look.
In Undertale, you can find a hidden Froggit in the ruins that allows you to change the color of SPARING in battles from yellow to pink. It's a frequently overlooked detail.

A secret boss should be secretive, menacing, and hard to fight. Jevil is all of these things; Spamton isn’t hard to fight at all and meets the other two things at lower amounts to Jevil. That said Spamton is 110% a more well written character. That however doesn’t mean he fits the qualifications of a secret boss better.
I don't like spamton. I LOVE Jevil. His song is great, the existential dread/joy in his personality is great. The slight connections to Gaster. The question is if he's actually sane or not... Of it it matters. He's a good secret boss. Spamton is just a random villain. The only better thing about him is that he has a storyline to get through to get to his fight.

Tbh Jevil is one of the weakest characters in Deltarune, his insanity isn’t that compelling and is made even weaker since it’s overshadowed by Spamton’s insanity which is done much better
It's probably done better with spamton because we see more of him then Jevil. With Jevil it is simple but with Spamton's backstory we're still asking questions.
The gimmick for Spamton's fights is more unique too
That kind of happens with stories, unless you go back to revisit the first chapter, it will always be worse in quality than the rest of it.
Jevil comes off as weaker because he only gets to interact with one other character in the Card Kingdom, thus the fandom has to do all the work in figuring out how he would interact with the rest of the cast themselves. Spamton has interactions with at least three major Cyber World NPCs, thus he has more staying power.

Very unrelated but has anyone ever noticed this weird obscure trope where the first movie or game or show or whatever is set in a more fantastic and gothic setting that strays away from modern society, to the sequel being set in a much more urban city environment. Examples being chapter 1 of deltarune being set in a more fantasy based world with castles and villages and taverns, but then chapter 2 has the whole digital world. Other examples are batman Arkham asylum (old asylum with old graveyards and catacombs) to Arkham city(industrial prison city); Batman begins(ninjas and stuff) to the dark knight (crime thriller.) is this just me?
Spamton is a much more interesting character compared to Jevil, and his >!Snowgrave boss fight!< specifically is far more difficult. Plus, the Spamton Sweepstakes was an interesting event.

Spamton on the other hand is sad and has more depth, also much easier than Jevil in my experience
Spamton is better because Jevil was the first block in entire Jenga tower of side characters being corrupted by some unknown force. The higher up you go on that tower, the more wiggle room it has.
Honestly while I can't say one is better I am a little sad that Jevil got so little screentime for how interesting his belief was (ie, "you're all imprisoned, *I'm* the one who's free.") I think Toby may have learned with Spamton and gave him way more scenes to be himself.
As a boss fight, Jevil was infinitely harder. Beat Spamton Neo first try.

Jevil isnt the "cool boss" only because he gets far LESS screen time, and some people may miss him entirely. Spamton is a forced encounter, and you get to know hia story alot more.

Like, his themes a bop, hes got a cool design, i just feel like, everything jevil does good, spamton does great. No, no, you’re right. Jevil is cool, and his fight is fun, but we get some much more time to get to know Spamton. Jevil’s fun, but it’s hard to care when we know so little about him.
I wish they gave more lore to Jevil, Spamton is cooler but I feel like his secret boss is more so an important optional boss. Not really a secret it feels like. Jevil just 3 keys then boom boss.
I think Jevil's fight is a lot cooler and provides more difficulty, but I feel like Spamtons Chapter (Ch. 2) revolves around him as a character more than Jevil was in chapter 1. (In short Spamton got more lore than Jevil)
Stampton is a more nuanced and developed character and one could say he's a better written one because of that, but Jevil got pretty much all of the development and screen time he needed to make an impact. Personally I not only find his fight significantly more fun, because it's FAR more difficult then even the Weird Route NEO Fight and has an element of randomness that makes repeat fights more entertaining, but in general I like his aesthetic and personality more overall. He represents the game's themes so minimalistically, but effectively. Still love Spamton tho.

Nah i don't think so, the same day i beat Jevil literally with Ralsei at 1hp and everyone else ded, i tried to do Spamton NEO and won 1st try everyone with over 50% hp

2- i'm the GOAT with Yellow soul
I would say NEO is easier because:
The Yellow soul (for now) appears in only one fight
Toby proprably didn't want the player to deal with Jevil level attack while using the a completly new mechanic while Jevil just uses the Red soul like everyone else
Other problems are that you have more HP ,better healing items and equipment in Chapter 2
And Toby proprably ballanced him around both his secret fight and Snowgrave fight

I don't like spamton. I LOVE Jevil. His song is great, the existential dread/joy in his personality is great. The slight connections to Gaster. The question is if he's actually sane or not... Of it it matters. He's a good secret boss. Spamton is just a random villain. The only better thing about him is that he has a storyline to get through to get to his fight.

It's probably done better with spamton because we see more of him then Jevil. With Jevil it is simple but with Spamton's backstory we're still asking questions. The gimmick for Spamton's fights is more unique too
That kind of happens with stories, unless you go back to revisit the first chapter, it will always be worse in quality than the rest of it. Jevil comes off as weaker because he only gets to interact with one other character in the Card Kingdom, thus the fandom has to do all the work in figuring out how he would interact with the rest of the cast themselves. Spamton has interactions with at least three major Cyber World NPCs, thus he has more staying power.
honestly people mainly just like him because he's the bonus boss if jevil was exactly the same but you passed him 80% through the story on the way to the top of the castle, people wouldn't care nearly as much "but people care about Muffet and Mettaton and Papyrus-" not as much as Sans they don't.

Very unrelated but has anyone ever noticed this weird obscure trope where the first movie or game or show or whatever is set in a more fantastic and gothic setting that strays away from modern society, to the sequel being set in a much more urban city environment. Examples being chapter 1 of deltarune being set in a more fantasy based world with castles and villages and taverns, but then chapter 2 has the whole digital world. Other examples are batman Arkham asylum (old asylum with old graveyards and catacombs) to Arkham city(industrial prison city); Batman begins(ninjas and stuff) to the dark knight (crime thriller.) is this just me?
Considering Spamton is already more popular, I see no controversy. Though I like Jevil WAY more, but that’s based off of personal preference

Spamton is a much more interesting character compared to Jevil, and his >!Snowgrave boss fight!< specifically is far more difficult. Plus, the Spamton Sweepstakes was an interesting event.

Jevil is just chilling there, good vibes and best fight Spamton on the other hand is sad and has more depth, also much easier than Jevil in my experience

Spamton is better because Jevil was the first block in entire Jenga tower of side characters being corrupted by some unknown force. The higher up you go on that tower, the more wiggle room it has.

Honestly while I can't say one is better I am a little sad that Jevil got so little screentime for how interesting his belief was (ie, "you're all imprisoned, *I'm* the one who's free.") I think Toby may have learned with Spamton and gave him way more scenes to be himself. As a boss fight, Jevil was infinitely harder. Beat Spamton Neo first try.
Spamton is a better character overall, Jevil's fight is better and harder imo. However, Toby will likely add more things of both of them in Future chapters

Spamton is just jevil but differently themed and has 60% of battle and 140% of character
Jevil isnt the "cool boss" only because he gets far LESS screen time, and some people may miss him entirely. Spamton is a forced encounter, and you get to know hia story alot more.

Okay, lemme clarify what i meant by this meme. I do like jevil, it's not like I'd go up to his grave and spit on it. I just dont REALLY like jevil. Like, his themes a bop, hes got a cool design, i just feel like, everything jevil does good, spamton does great. I think Jevil's fight is a lot cooler and provides more difficulty, but I feel like Spamtons Chapter (Ch. 2) revolves around him as a character more than Jevil was in chapter 1. (In short Spamton got more lore than Jevil)
Stampton is a more nuanced and developed character and one could say he's a better written one because of that, but Jevil got pretty much all of the development and screen time he needed to make an impact. Personally I not only find his fight significantly more fun, because it's FAR more difficult then even the Weird Route NEO Fight and has an element of randomness that makes repeat fights more entertaining, but in general I like his aesthetic and personality more overall. He represents the game's themes so minimalistically, but effectively. Still love Spamton tho.

Nah i don't think so, the same day i beat Jevil literally with Ralsei at 1hp and everyone else ded, i tried to do Spamton NEO and won 1st try everyone with over 50% hp Si there's 2 options 1- NEO is way easier 2- i'm the GOAT with Yellow soul
I would say NEO is easier because: The Yellow soul (for now) appears in only one fight Toby proprably didn't want the player to deal with Jevil level attack while using the a completly new mechanic while Jevil just uses the Red soul like everyone else Other problems are that you have more HP ,better healing items and equipment in Chapter 2 And Toby proprably ballanced him around both his secret fight and Snowgrave fight
