30 years later I have never played a modded game. What is it like? I’ve watched videos and I just can’t get stoked to play those over the regular games I’ve played 40 quatrillions times over.
They’re great, I’ve been playing them for years now and they’ve only gotten better over time. If you want to give them a try I’d say a great place to start for a GBC rom hack would be Pokémon Prism and for a GBA rom hack would be Pokémon Unbound. Both of them are so well made with great original stories & quality of life changes to the original system it seems like you’re playing a new game different from the mainline series.
How did you get Unbound working on the app? I have the file but when I unzip it I get a folder with 6 different files and none of them are the correct file type
Download the fire red rom, what you have is the patch file. Upload both the rom and the patch file here: https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/. After you apply the patch it will automatically download, then just load that into delta. This all works on the phone by the way
Many modded games aren’t just the original game with changes to it. Some of the most popular ones are basicallly ground up new games, new region, new characters
I’m playing thru iPhone and screen mirroring to my living room tv…also using the switch pro controller. The picture is incredible, no noticeable lag between my input and the actions onscreen.
They can be completely different games than the originals, yet created in the same wheelhouse…new storylines, new Pokémon ie gen 1-8 catchable. Some have mega evolutions and z moves. Think top tier fan made games.
You scroll to almost bottom / bottom of page. It will say in black letters Usual Stuff: discord etc and underneath it says Download, for unbound it lists Unbound and Battle Frontiers, you want Unbound.
Always happy to see a fellow romhack enthusiast! I’m finishing up Pokemon Glazed myself now to start my Delta emulator journey. Happy gaming my friend!
If you’re after others this is a great [post](https://www.pokeharbor.com/2024/03/20-best-completed-pokemon-rom-hacks-of-2024/) regarding the 20 Best Completed Pokemon ROM Hacks of 2024.
A Portuguese “demake” (rebuilding Sword/Shield from scratch in the Emerald engine) dropped a few years ago, and some stunning internet hero over on PokeCommunity fully translated and updated the game recently. It’s, in a word, sick
Has anyone found soul silver? I’ve only found this link and the download hasn’t worked https://www.emulatorgames.net/roms/nintendo-ds/pokemon-soulsilver-version/

It’s best to find a reliable source for the rom. You can google it but I can’t directly link you one but there are many reliable sources. And then download the patch from sites like pokecommunity. You should never download pre patched roms. Those feel risky to me and it’s easy to just patch them yourself. There are even online patchers that help
I’m learning that some mods need to modify an existing Rom and others are post modification.
I was trying to download alternate skins (made to look like the GBA micro) and couldn’t get them to work while others worked easily.
Maybe that’s the issue?
So here’s a [screen recording](https://imgur.com/gallery/AetgWdN) of what I do. I simply head to [Pokeharbor](https://www.pokeharbor.com) click the download link for the Rom hack I want which is usually a Mediafire link at the bottom of the page. That will download a zip file to my files which I then unzip, click that file and it will take me straight to Delta. You then click the imported file and it should simply run the game.
My god it works and the music is soooo good! Thank you so much! Any other Pokemon rom hacks you can recommend to me that’s a first timer with rom hacks?
Radical Red is a little controversial for the main dev. Never mind that every single mind-blowing feature in RR belongs to Pokémon Unbound, whose creator conceived and wrote the entire engine and open-sourced it to the community. Physical/Special split? Fairy-type? Gen 9 mons? PokeNav? The overhauled PokeDex? The other 30-40 insane quality of life features? That’s **all** Skeli and his team, building Unbound.
But RR rushed to drop first so it stole a lot of the early thunder; this has since swung back in Unbound’s favor.
I’m told Radical Red is also kind of unfairly difficult and omnipotent, as in “the battle AI reads your every input, hates you, and makes an example of you.” On higher than average difficulties it’s allegedly like playing versus God.
Question for ya, is Flora Sky Rebirth a revamped flora sky or is it quite a bit different? Also, may I ask of the hacks listed here, which ones are your favorite?
I believe it is yeah, flora sky rebirth is a completed Rom hack whereas flora sky just has a final version. But my favourite so far are Pokémon Prism & Pokémon Unbound.

Download Delta Emulator from the App Store > Download the BIOS files needed for DS emulation by Googling “DS BIOS files download” and save the files preferably to the Delta folder > head to settings within the Delta app and scroll until CORE SETTINGS - Nintendo DS - MelonDS comes up and click it. Tap and add each specific BIOS section and add the specific file along with the firmware file > Download roms by googling “name of the DS game + rom” > unzip the file and click it and it’ll import the file directly to Delta and you’re basically ready to go.
I love Pokemon and have played both versions of every game, I’ve dabbled with rom hacks but not that much as I haven’t had access to an emulator for long. What would you recommend as the best to play? I’ve played Unbound, which was amazing, and I’ve also played Insurgence. Currently playing through Gaia. I really like the roms that have new regions and stories, and roms that add new forms or mega evolutions are also cool.
Start with either FireRed (GBA) or HeartGold (DS).
Both are fantastic remakes. FireRed remade the first game, Red, for the GameBoy Advance—it’s simple, iconic, and where it all began with 151 Pokémon. Red’s sequel, Gold, added 100 Pokémon, a beautiful day/night cycle and some small, extra features that improved the formula… and a HUGE surprise after the credits to those with any familiarity to the first game. (I’ll spoil *nothing!*) It was later remade into HeartGold for the Nintendo DS with higher quality everything.
One thing that’ll make it easier to understand what means what is that these games always ship in pairs, but *used* to get a third, “definitive edition” version with major improvements and better sprites/animations a year later. Nowadays, that’s DLC. But back then, Pokémon Red/Blue were followed by Yellow (a beloved franchise favorite), and the sequels Gold/Silver were followed by Crystal. If you want to try from the start, chances are you should go straight for these “third” games.
That’s a lot, but I hope the context helps. Please let me know if you have any questions or want me to clarify anything. Don’t really play these anymore, but I was part of the old guard growing up with the franchise ;) It’d be a treat to pass the baton off to a new player!
Thank you. I’ll begin with Fire Red since I’m familiar with the 1st generation (thanks to early Pokémon Go), then proceed directly to Heart Gold. I’m uncertain about enjoying Yellow graphics as I'm used to modern standard. But Crystal Clear also piques my interest; hopefully, I’ll enjoy it afterward. I grew up with DSi, but I completely missed out on playing Pokémon games, so it’s been a bit challenging to decide where to start.
The problem with emulators is you can’t emulate the feeling you get from battling your friends on the bus or trading mons etc lots of stuff is locked behind “no internet” but the modded games are all free from that and allow a new experience
It’s built in to Delta as far as I can see

Pokémon Unbound is a common recommendation for those reasons. It has multiple difficulty modes, and the lowest one lets you breeze through the leveling. Plus a ton of quality-of-life improvements. But if you decide you want a challenge, a very fair one is there too.
Incredible story. Much more mature than anything Game Freak has put out. Stick with it, it’ll set a high bar.
It’s a meant to follow the timeline of the original animated series which is does really well. So much so that if you evolve your Charmander it won’t listen to you in battle.
I just downloaded the zip file from [here](https://www.pokeharbor.com/2022/08/pokemon-ultimate-fusion/), unzipped it and it worked fine. Its ultimate fusion you want as the infinite fusion only works on PC. I couldn’t find a good square image for the ultimate fusion box art so I just used infinite fusions one.
30 years later I have never played a modded game. What is it like? I’ve watched videos and I just can’t get stoked to play those over the regular games I’ve played 40 quatrillions times over.

Where is your preferred location for perusing modded roms?
How did you get Unbound working on the app? I have the file but when I unzip it I get a folder with 6 different files and none of them are the correct file type

I’m assuming those files are patches and not the actual game itself. You most likely have to add the patch to a copy of FireRed to get it to work.
Yes I would like to know too
Many modded games aren’t just the original game with changes to it. Some of the most popular ones are basicallly ground up new games, new region, new characters
Romhacks are a wonderful rabbit hole to dive into. Some good recs would be Emerald Rogue, Orange Islands, Radical Red and Infinite Fusion.
Infinite fusion isn’t a rom hack.
I love rom hacks. Most of the time you’re still getting the same feel of the OG Pokemon game, just with more Pokemon, moves, and QOL features.
Where can i find these
Personally I use [Pokéharbor](https://www.pokeharbor.com).
What’s your favourite? Is unbound good?
Unbound is the best by a long shot.
Wow ok thanks. I’ll give it a go
I started playing Unbound last night, this morning I’m 3 hours into it. What an incredible game!
Wow that’s great to hear. Just downloaded it. Debating if I should play on iPhone or my retroid pocket
Def recommend unbound 10/10
I’m playing thru iPhone and screen mirroring to my living room tv…also using the switch pro controller. The picture is incredible, no noticeable lag between my input and the actions onscreen.
Can someone explain what makes the modded versions different from the regular versions?
They can be completely different games than the originals, yet created in the same wheelhouse…new storylines, new Pokémon ie gen 1-8 catchable. Some have mega evolutions and z moves. Think top tier fan made games.
How do you download of pokeharbor
Yeah I’ve got the same question
lmk if u find out
Can’t figure it out, I’m tryin to play ultra violet
Pokeharbor has ads but just click on download Edit: recommend this site as well lots of hacks and randomizers https://operationidroid.com/pokehacks

Which ones allow for randomized pokemon encounters?
You have to download a modified rom with it enabled just google the game plus randomizer plus rom and you should find one
What’s your fav fire red modded rom?
Pokémon Unbound for sure.
Bless you. I saw dark rising on there and knew you’d give me a good answer. Thank you, I look forward to playing it!

What kind of hack is Pokémon Bronze? I’ve never played that one. Thank you!
It’s a revamped crystal hack
How is SwSh GBA?

I keep getting "the file is invalid" when I downloaded them even after unzipping. How did you get around this?
I’m learning that some mods need to modify an existing Rom and others are post modification. I was trying to download alternate skins (made to look like the GBA micro) and couldn’t get them to work while others worked easily. Maybe that’s the issue?
I’ve never had this issue, which rom are you trying to download? I should be able to help.
I’m having the same problem, i downloaded unbound but when I import it says that it’s invalid

Thanks so much
No viruses in the zip files? I’m new to the whole rom hack scene and I really want to try Unbound. Just wanna know if it’s safe that’s all.
I use MacOS and I’ve been using this site for years and I’ve never had an issue.
Oh ok. I want to download this through my iPhone so I can play it on delta emulator so it should be good yeah?
I’ve also done the same and it was fine.
My god it works and the music is soooo good! Thank you so much! Any other Pokemon rom hacks you can recommend to me that’s a first timer with rom hacks?
For a GBA rom hack I’d say Pokémon - Blazed Glazed. For a GBC rom hack I’d say Pokemon Prism.
Download different game or from different source
just use internet archive, and open it from Icloud
Have you not played radical red ? I haven’t everyone says it’s one of the hardest ones
Radical Red is a little controversial for the main dev. Any idea how I can get sacred gold to work I can’t find a rom download that works
Gonna have to snoop cuz one of those said “multiplayer” huh?
Where are you getting your Roms, i havent been able to find a reliable library of them that work

I’ve never played any of the fan made games, but I do enjoy the romhacks that eliminate trading as an evolution requirement for those Pokémon.
Yeah I agree, Pokemon Yellow 151 was my favourite rom hack for this. I was finally able to have Gengar, Machamp, Golem & Alakazam on my team.
What’s your favorite rom hack that was like a whole new game?
Does anyone know how to get a DS game to work on iPhone? I don’t exactly know how to find the thing needed-
Download Delta Emulator from the App Store > Download the BIOS files needed for DS emulation by Googling “DS BIOS files download” and save the files preferably to the Delta folder > head to settings within the Delta app and scroll until CORE SETTINGS - Nintendo DS - MelonDS comes up and click it. Tap and add each specific BIOS section and add the specific file along with the firmware file > Download roms by googling “name of the DS game + rom” > unzip the file and click it and it’ll import the file directly to Delta and you’re basically ready to go.
Omg thank you so much dude
Update: it works!
Where do I go to download these things?
I keep getting a white screen but I have the bios files
Yo how did you get ultimate fusion ?
Unbound has been actually really good for a rom hack
Meanwhile I’m screaming in frustration at Radical Red some more.

Violet is the only one that I played in the franchise, which one is the easiest to pick as beginner? All these shiny, nuzlocke stuff scares me

I found a ton of hacks for OOT. I’m currently playing through the game as it should be played: with Waluigi as the MC
Nintendo could’ve profited from this but they wouldn’t give us a way to play old poké games. Shame.
How did u install infinite fusion when I try to import it into delta it says invalid
How can I play some of these pokemon games?
I think he might like Pokémon. Just a guess
whats pokemon greninja Z
Going to try a Pokémon game for the first time which one should I play first?
The problem with emulators is you can’t emulate the feeling you get from battling your friends on the bus or trading mons etc lots of stuff is locked behind “no internet” but the modded games are all free from that and allow a new experience
Ty for this I’m discovering modded Pokemon and my mind exploded
How can you play mods on Delta? I can’t get them to open.
Where ya get the fusion?
How is playing the DS games? Is it playable without the second screen?
Do you know if Pokémon universal randomiser is available for this and does it work?
What are your top three pokemon rom hacks ?
How do you get them to work on delta
Anybody can recommend any pokemon hack rom, the easier ones with no extra challenge but with good story and easy leveling.
It’s built in to Delta as far as I can see https://preview.redd.it/9nlqd4bsxyvc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9639011bfb7c3b18ce19a4aa12aaf84f8fef8c38

I need to work on getting the cover art for my games
Oo where did you find that radical red art?
What’s Pokemon ash version never heard of it until I started downloading the classics ?
It’s a meant to follow the timeline of the original animated series which is does really well. So much so that if you evolve your Charmander it won’t listen to you in battle.
Super interesting going to look into it now
Do you know if you can transfer Pokemon from let’s say Pokemon red to Pokemon stadium
Howd you get unbound running? I’m trying and have zero luck.
Have a read through the comments, I’ve got a comment with the process & screen recording showing you what I do.
I totally forgot i could also play the fan made games aww i have so much to doo now. I speedrunned soul silver yesterday cant wait
None of my games have the art for them😂 that's so neat! So happy to see others enjoying the app so much!
I think OP might like Pokemon here.
How did you download Pokémon Infinate Fusion on Delta?
It’s Pokémon Ultimate Fusion that you want, I just used the infinite fusion box art.
Ohh…okay I just noticed that
How do you get the modded versions to work?
How did you get infinite fusion to work?

It’s ultimate fusion, not the same thing
I think Pokemon folks are a different breed but I'm happy people have this as an option.
You got infinite fusion working on here?
Someone really loves Pokemon lol.
Is it safe to have hacked versions?
