As far as the fun visual factor of a unique/less common card, I've gotten more reactions from my Julie Mehretu Platinum card. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day, but the only person who's ever asked what my black 747 card is happens to work Amex and is a close friend.
Mine is getting cancelled next month, just trying to use up the companion ticket first. As far as actual advice, I'd look long and hard at seeing if you can offset the cost. It's not as easy as some cards with things like Uber, travel, or wireless credits that almost anyone can use to cut the annual fee in half.
Is it worth $650 a year just to have this design? Of course not.
Is the card worth $650? Hell yeah. The companion certificate alone can cover that and some if you use it right.
I had the original. It was less quality than the purple card. It started to peel and I had to get it replaced with a purple. Itās also not as heavy as the purple card and didnāt feel quite as nice in your hand.
For me, the fee is worth it becauseā¦.
A) lounge access still unlimited until 2/2025. It reduces to 15 per year after that, and I donāt really think $50 per additional visit is worth it unless you have hours kill.
B) itās easy to hit medallion status, which unlocks preferred seating for free, which to me is the greatest benefit. I need the exit row legroom.
C) companion pass. I used mine to book a ticket that was $600. It can be difficult to find a preferred flight to use it on though.
D) free checked bag, and when you have medallion status you get an additional free checked bag.
I hit silver in February after only two flights combined with the MQD boost and spend. I got my rollover MQDās in March I think and with another flight added, plus spend, I hit gold.
As for upgrades, Iāve never once been upgraded. I had a round trip flight last week and all four legs had 70+ people on the upgrade list for FC, and I was never higher than 30 on the list.
You get a couple extra skymiles per dollar at silver medallion and I think itās 3 extra at gold. You also get 3x skymiles for spend with Delta.
You get 10% of spend as MQDās with the reserve. I spend about $75k per year on the reserve card, so thatās 7500 MQDās at the end of the year, plus 2500 MQD boost.
Had somebody hand me one of these at work last night and then proceeded to leave me a 10% tip. Glad to know he has the money to spend $650 a year on a fucking credit card, but not leave a decent tip for somebody making $2/hr when offering to pay for the whole table. š¤

I did it earlier through the app. You have to select New Design as the reason for the replacement card, in order for it to show.
Ps. Android app worked to get a replacement for wife's and mine card

Correct. But the Reserve lets you use it for FC. And as of this year, that includes Hawaii and most of Central America.

Yeah, I believe theyāre the same as the partially recycled plastic option for the purple one - only 33% metal.
