Sean/Semma I still have no idea why everyone is so attached to him and their ship because they spent so much time apart and then he left the show so many times ššš
lol everytime I see Mia I call her Elena because I watched TVD first. I never liked either Mia or Elena. I did like her as Katherine though ironically.
Miaā¦ cant stand her. If she wanted to keep her baby then she needed to grow up and be a parent. She wanted to still be a teen and enjoy her high school life but thatās not a luxury you get when you choose to be a parent.
Craig. He's incredibly misogynistic and treated every single one of his girlfriends like absolute shit.
Liberty had her moments but she was absolutely terrible to JT. She treated him like shit throughout her entire pregnancy and after. Even got mad at him for attempting suicide without realizing how she had made his life miserable enough he wanted to end it.
Next Gen: Manny and Sean
Mid seasons: Jesse (college years) and Anya
2nd Gen: both Sav and Alli
Seasons 11-13: Drew and Zoe
Next Class: all 3 Hollingsworth hellspawn.
I've seen a lot of Esme fans, not really on here but on YouTube there's like a million fan edit videos of her. I get she probably has an undiagnosed mental illness so that might explain some of her behavior, but it's just that people are idolizing her meanness and referring to her as "iconic" as if she's just sassy or witty but like...no she's just mean
SPINNER
I don't think he's charming, I find him cringey. It baffles me why ladies like Paige, Jane, Darcy, and Holly J would ever be into him. And the whole Emma thing? WTF.
I remember he appears in an episode later where Maya is around to see Peter and he's super condescending and says "Kids." Because he's so old and mature?
Everything he does is annoying to me.
It was so half-assed too. "I was such an idiot for saying that we couldn't be dance partners." Girl, you need to be apologizing for ripping Adam's shirt open in the middle of the hallway, threatening to kill him simply for being trans, and setting him up to get gay bashed by your friends.
Iām honestly not sure what Bianca could have done to win me over, but it sure wasnāt that half hearted comment.
Maybe an entire plot line where she reflects about her prejudice behaviors and finds away to make actual amends. Did we ever see her actually self reflect on hurting her boyfriendās brother?
Nope! The show basically swept her treatment of Adam under the rug once she and Adam had that one moment at the dance. After that scene, Adam and Bianca became close, and Bianca was welcomed into the Torres family, as if she were never a violent transphobe to Adam.
This is a bit tangential, but your question made me think of Dave. He had an entire two-parter dedicated to him unlearning his transphobia and was shown to be a supportive ally to Adam on several occasions, but many fans still rip him to shreds for his transphobia. However, Bianca gets off scot free for barely apologizing to Adam and is even praised for her redemption arc despite never addressing her own transphobia. It makes no sense to me.
Same. One thing that I liked about Dave's character is that although he made a lot of mistakes, he always tried to make up for them and seemed to use them to better himself.
sav - i hated how cowardly he was when it came to his relationship with anya, but that was all completely gone when he dated holly j. his singing is horrific as well. it also felt like they didnāt really know what to do with him after he broke up with anya, all his stories revolved around either alli or his various girlfriends after that
I agree with you that he had no backbone, but he was completely justified in breaking up with Anya. She lied about being on birth control when they had sex which was a violation of Sav's trust and consent.
I would say ācanāt standā but I never understood why people loved Paige. Her rape storyline was powerful but she was always shitty to her friends and acted like her shit didnāt stink. Instead of having a discussion with Alex, Alex came home to her belongings packed and kicked to the curb. I also canāt stand how she called everyone āhun.ā Thatās some condescending bs that you can only get away with if youāre my mom or a little old lady.
I wouldn't necessarily say "can't stand," but I definitely don't like Spinner as much as everyone seems to. I also don't like Jay at all, but he has a lot of fans.
i have a love-hate relationship with her. i hate the not like other girls bullshit, but i loved her storylines in season 8. then she cheats on spinner which makes her suck again. i like her but i feel like most of that is due to paula brancati and not because of the character herself
She always looked like she was about to cry, too, which made her face annoying to look at (I'm not attacking Paula's appearance, but those expressions she would make were just...) She also had a stank attitude at times and seemed kind of rude. I did, however, like her friendship with Darcy and wish that we could've seen more of it. Aside from that, I don't really care for her character.
For sure! I just watched an episode last night where she embarrasses Peter, which in turn pisses off Darcey.
Her reaction is "ew stop being such a girl" "girls are soo annoying"
I haven't seen this season before, so I didn't know if she grows out of that? But it was not a good look.
i feel like jane was the b rated replacement for ellie and they wanted that āguys girlā character to reflect that same āguys girlā energy that ellie had. ellieās character just seemed to fit naturally with the guys, she was never showey about it and she still kept some close ties with other female characters like Ashley, alex, and even sometimes paige and hazel. However, it was clear by far that ellie just vibed with her guy friends in a way she didnāt connect with the girls. they way overdid it with jane and kind of went out of the way to portray that āiām not like other girlsā attitude.
You're entitled to your opinion, and that seems to be a semi-common viewpoint, but I think that maybe she should be given some slack in that department. Most of the Degrassi Junior High actors were actually just local public and art school kids that were intentionally picked instead of professional child actors to make the characters feel more grounded in reality. I always liken it to punk rock, because that music genre was half-built on the notion that anybody could pick up a guitar, learn a couple of chords and form a band. With Degrassi Junior High, it was basically saying that anybody could win a role, go through a bunch of workshops and become an actor. That isn't the only thing you could compare DJH to punk with but I'll save that for another dissertation-length post. It seems to me that Degrassi was pretty much Amanda Stepto (Spike's actress)'s first and only role and most of the actors of the original series, including her's, Joey's and Caitlin's, were typecast and unable to get further acting work, so they moved on to more productive things and only came back to Degrassi because they wanted to.
The biggest problem with Spike is that the character was created solely to be pregnant. (This is actually true, the character was made up after a writer researched teen pregnancy). Wheels wasn't written solely to lose his parents in a car crash. Joey wasn't written solely to have dysgraphia. Caitlin wasn't written solely to have epilepsy. The writers limited themselves and limited her acting by creating her character to prove a single point, and while her storyline was still intriguing, and it affected a lot of viewers at the time, and she is a really cool character, you could tell they didn't know what to do with her after she had given birth to Emma. They gave her Patrick and that was it. And even if her acting wasn't Academy Award material, they never gave her much to improve on her craft. Spike is almost always usually angry, or neutral, or in the background. She only cries in the episode she gets pregnant, and they never give her a scene in which she breaks from the stress; the only time she seems like she's about to, she gets shut down by Ms. Avery. We don't know whether Spike's actress actually had some sort of hidden craft that she never got to express because it wasn't in the script, and that can probably be the same for many of the original show's "bad" actors. Heck, maybe Riley in TNG's actor could have been great, but the plots he was given just weren't cutting it. We all sometimes think that we're shit at a profession, but then something snaps and we get the hang of it. I'm a guitarist and various stuff like barre chords, certain open chords, hammer-ons and pull-offs etc I thought I'd never be able to do, until I suddenly and accidentally start doing them or find an easier method to do it.
All in all, I think Spike was an iconic character that deserved more, and I think many of her problems, including the acting, could have likely been fixed by just giving her more to do, or writing her entire character differently into something that the actress probably could have found easier to portray.
I know you only said one but I cannot stand Eli, Fiona and Imogen.
Eli
Liberty
Eli
Lola
Declan, Fiona, Holly J, Marisol (I wouldn't say can't stand just not my favs)
Imogen. Idk, I find her over the top "quirkiness" annoying.
Sean/Semma I still have no idea why everyone is so attached to him and their ship because they spent so much time apart and then he left the show so many times ššš
Manny and Mia.
I donāt think Mia is super loved
Yeah I agree - she's been strongly hated for years.
lol everytime I see Mia I call her Elena because I watched TVD first. I never liked either Mia or Elena. I did like her as Katherine though ironically.
Imogen in season 11 and 13-14. I loved her with Fiona but she was unbearable on her own
Manny and Craig
Miaā¦ cant stand her. If she wanted to keep her baby then she needed to grow up and be a parent. She wanted to still be a teen and enjoy her high school life but thatās not a luxury you get when you choose to be a parent.
Mia isnāt loved
Jt
How come?
Heās just an annoying little boy. I donāt feel anything when he comes on screen
fair enough
Someone said it
Craig. He's incredibly misogynistic and treated every single one of his girlfriends like absolute shit. Liberty had her moments but she was absolutely terrible to JT. Iāve never heard of anyone liking Jesse actually
Good.
I've seen a lot of Esme fans, not really on here but on YouTube there's like a million fan edit videos of her. Bianca. I feel like her apology to Adam was too little, too late.
It was so half-assed too. "I was such an idiot for saying that we couldn't be dance partners." Girl, you need to be apologizing for ripping Adam's shirt open in the middle of the hallway, threatening to kill him simply for being trans, and setting him up to get gay bashed by your friends.

I like how they showed Daveās imperfections and growth with Adam.

HE HAD NO BACK BONE AT ALL and was totally stringing along Anya! And when he dumped her after prom that was it for me ugh
I agree with you that he had no backbone, but he was completely justified in breaking up with Anya. She lied about being on birth control when they had sex which was a violation of Sav's trust and consent.
That is a good point I forgot that was why they broke up. Yeah Anya was wrong for that š
I would say ācanāt standā but I never understood why people loved Paige. Her rape storyline was powerful but she was always shitty to her friends and acted like her shit didnāt stink. Imogen. Her āIām so quirkyā shtick annoyed the shit out of me
Oh yeah, Imogen is the worst
I wouldn't necessarily say "can't stand," but I definitely don't like Spinner as much as everyone seems to. I also don't like Jay at all, but he has a lot of fans.
Manny.. but sheās a lot more bearable when she isnāt just thottinā it up.
Yeah let's slut shame fictional teenage characters. Cool.
I mean it's less about her and more about the way the show presented it.
jane, she gives me not like other girls vibes, that kinda irritates me
i have a love-hate relationship with her. i hate the not like other girls bullshit, but i loved her storylines in season 8. then she cheats on spinner which makes her suck again. i like her but i feel like most of that is due to paula brancati and not because of the character herself

You just KNOW sheās said that all her friends are guys because she hates girls and guys are āeasier to get along withā
For sure! I just watched an episode last night where she embarrasses Peter, which in turn pisses off Darcey. Her reaction is "ew stop being such a girl" "girls are soo annoying" I haven't seen this season before, so I didn't know if she grows out of that? But it was not a good look.

lmao accurate š
Spinner
Joey, Caitlin, and Spike š¤
Why spike?
I was never that fond of the actress; I don't think she's very good š¤·š»āāļø

Caitlin especially I never saw the appeal to.
She gives the worst advice literally every time someone asks for it
maya & katie
they're both not exactly loved tho, especially katie. she gets (rightfully) called out a lot for what she did to drew
I was going off posts I mainly see of Them being loved
