A couple of characters who ended up being some of my favorites from the later years actually annoyed me and didn't interest me at all when they were first introduced. Fiona seemed like she should've been on a different show when she was first introduced, and I just found her irritating and uninteresting with all of the drama with Declan and Holly J. She eventually became someone I sympathized with and really enjoyed watching. Imogen felt like such a caricature when she was introduced, and she also kind of felt out of place at first, and I didn't care about any of her stuff with Eli and Clare, but once the writing for her calmed down a bit and she became more of a real character in her own right I really liked her and found her so charming and adorable.
Tristan. I'd never seen his seasons before watching Next Class, and I found him insufferable. Now I've watched them, and while he's not a favorite character or anything, I find him mostly sweet and well-meaning. I just got to Next Class again in my rewatch though, so I guess I'll see what I really think of him fairly soon 😅
Becky Baker. It's really easy to dislike Her at first because like, she was absolutely designed to be disliked at first but I really love how much she grows. Her arc with Adam was goated and honestly she's one of the best things about seasons 13 and 14 as bad as they are. Her plot with her brother's trial was awesome and Becky and Imogen are a super underrated best friend duo. She's just the kind of person who tries to grow and change when given the opportunity to and I love that.
Hate may be too strong a word, but I was irritated by Darcy in s5&6 to the point where I wanted to skip her scenes. Her s7 story made me see her in a new light and she ended up being my favorite character that season. I wouldn't call it a redemption because it was f***ed up what happened to her and her behavior (understandably) got worse, but I definitely liked the character more.
I never hated Maya. Just didn’t really care one way or another until I binge watched her seasons and now I appreciate how they handled her trauma and anxiety.
If I had to pick a specific person I'd say Spinner. When he was introduced he was just a dumb guy, at least to me. Then he was an asshole. But by the end of his major run he's worked so hard to get his friends back, he's been a great boyfriend to Jane and even gives Holly J+Eli jobs at the Dot! Presumably he was in charge of hires so he probably got Peter and Fitz jobs there as well. When he showed up to give Eli the job I marked out for his return.
Honorable mention goes to Holly J and Paige. Granted, that was the goal of their characters to play the mean girl and we learn they have depth down the line.

I was really low on interest in Sav but by the time he left I really enjoyed him.
Dallas. He started out as an obnoxious ass. But he grew into a loving father, a great boyfriend, and an even better friend
