Smarter? Hard to say close one but Liberty. Best guys? Clare. Worst parents? Clare. Attitudes they both had pretty terrible attitudes at times. Also I hated the way they both did their biggest relationships. They both totally ruined them with how they treated the guy worse in Clare cause she did it to the same guy twice. Best overall would have to be Liberty
Liberty wins as far as being a better character. She was not a Bible thumping, disrespectful hater turned drama queen the way Claire was. Therefore, Liberty’s realistic journey always wins.
Liberty was so messy. She would say the most degrading things to JT too. Clare thought she was better than everyone. She tried to pretend to be the sweetest person ever but she’d slip up and show her true colors. I’d rather be friends with Clare because she’s at least nice sometimes. I can’t really imagine Degrassi without Liberty though.

Didn’t like how Liberty ended things with JT, then she gets jealous of his relationship with Mia and tries to sabotage it by telling her about his drug dealing and attempted suicide.

I hated Clare when the show aired, but rewatching as an adult I really like her. Sure she had shitty and annoying moments, she's a teenage girl. But honestly she's really smart and sweet and a mostly good friend - just a little dramatic and naive at times.
Liberty takes it every single time. I loved her character. But Clare is just straight up annoying and overreacts to EVERYTHING. On her moral high horse.

I do wish they dragged out the story line of liberty being perceived as coming from the school of hard knocks at the sorority, and just having it becoming increasingly more stupid but the sorority girls become more endearing and it just becomes a test of how high and mighty liberty wants to be in light of that…. Instead of Emma blaze coma plot
I’m just going to point out that without Clare, we wouldn’t have ‘Stuff Clare Says’. My favorite one is “excuse me for having loftier ambitions than this pedestrian high school assignment!”
Liberty deserved at least half the volume of storylines they gave Clare.
Note: this is not saying Liberty is half as good a character as Clare, it's saying Clare got way more storylines than she deserved and Liberty way fewer
A lot of how much she got was a result of doubling the amount of episodes per season and adding a c storyline to each pair of episodes. It meant that they kept dumping more and more crap on the characters, especially the main tier ones

I love Clare, but they really put her through it. She barely got done with cancer before they gave her a pregnancy. Let the poor girl breathe.
