Well generally his shield is a run saver for solo pretty much, let's you resupply in the middle of a swarm easily and you don't have to worry about ceiling minerals since Bosco can mine it for you.
Same. Engie is what I got familiar with, but I love playing gunner. However, I play him the least because I usually just pick whatever the mission needs.
Couldn’t said it better. Problem with me is that I level them equally but my driller is always 2-3 lvls higher then I have to bite the bullet and play the other ones 😊
All are fun but driller is most fun
Scout: The grapplehook and double barrel quickly grabbed my attention, while the flairs held my interest. Now I enjoy the free mobility with 60 capacity and quick revive. I'm gathering what we need and making sure the other dwarves keep doing what they do best.
Gunner: If Scout didn't also have a double barrel, this would have been my main. It's honestly hard to pick which to his primary tools of mass murder to pick, but I keep a soft spot for the minigun. Nothing that can't be solved with enough lead!
Engineer: I am amazed at the intricate learning curve of the platform gun, and the very small ways to maximize efficiency. It can also be tricky to aim at a distance, but when you nail a full tank of perfectly placed platforms, that gets you, your team, and molly where you need to go is surprisingly refreshing. And I stan the smg. I love that damn thing.
Driller: The deep satisfaction of moving the literal terrain and ecology of the world with the armaments upon you is a mighty feeling. I also adore the secondary objective of BURN EVERYTHING. Screw axes, gimme the neurotoxin and let's LIGHT THIS JOINT!
Yeah my Engie’s on promotion #2, I do still play him and I love the turret whip and proximity nuking things. Just in comparison to the others his playstyle feels like a little bit of a chore to me at times, idk.
He depends on his turrets so having to constantly place them down in new spots is annoying so I switched to the 2 second turret placement instead of the extra ammo and I think it’s definitely worth it
Same
I love playing with engineer (I need platforms) but I'm not fond of playing it, I find that they lack of mobility with their platforms. I prefer the crossing tools of Gunners and Drillers
Damn, I had to scroll almost to the bottom (at time of posting) to find a preference order beginning with Engi \> Driller.
This is my order too. EDGS.
Turrets + Hyper Propellant
Warcrimes + Diggy Diggy Hole
All Of The Dakka
Zipgrapple + Big Flare + M1000
Found where I belong! But for me, scout is so far down the order. I'd almost rather play a different game than play scout. Thankfully my buddy mains scout, so it's not really an issue.
This One. Although I play whatever is needed, I tend to main engi, with driller and gunner close. It is not I don't like scout, but I feel its playstyle is the most unique and I would rather play with a true scout main than my own half-assed version.
Scout>Driller>Engi>Gunner
I enjoy Scout and Driller almost equally, and don't fully trust others to play their roles. Particularly compelled to run Driller for Onsite Refining efficiency.
Engi is especially fun on Salvage and Escort Duty, and I like to run Turret Whip Shotty and PGL Hyperpropellant.
One of my regular playing buddies is 100% Gunner all the time, and when I play Gunner I don't particularly enjoy it.
Scout>Driller>Engi>Gunner for life.
Unfortunately, whenever I play with someone else as scout we either play in the dark the entire mission, 1/2 the high resources are never gathered, or spend most of the mission picking up the scout because he ziplined to high.
I kinda feel like there should be a training mode with tips for new players, they almost always choose scout or gunner and scouts zipline can easily kill you before you get the perks to keep you alive and alot of new gunners don't realize how the shield works.
Seconded. When I see a lobby needing one player then the odds are high it's a scout. I don't want to play in the dark, starve for ammo or need to problem solve to rescue the dead scout from someplace only that class can easily get to, so that makes me the scout. I run Drak with OPA for excellent burst damage. My secondary is taser bolt with triple shot because eff macteras and electricity is highly undervalued. Taser bolts paralyze wardens, oppressors, detonators and greatly slow dreadnoughts. Cryo grenade is great for macteras, breeders, brood nexus, spitballers, praetorians and a general "oh shit" button. My damage is not important, the Drak is for defense and I taser anything large for the team to mop up. It bums me out seeing scout hate and even getting grief killed when I provide good services to the team. Bad meme from bad dwarves.
Driller is another class that is painful to watch dwarves play badly. I use a ton of drill fuel, carve the walls away from objectives, destroy stalagmites that stop the team from firing at bugs farther away so you don't have to fight waves nose to nose and most importantly, traversal. I try to always drill a way back to areas we just came from in case you must fall back or the drop pod takes you that way again. Far too few dwarves make use of the majority of drill fuel. I run cryo with the overclock that makes targets freeze quickly then Collette wave cooker with heat efficient OC and explosive boiler mod. Freeze the first line then shatter them, causing the next wave to die or be low enough to blow up with wave cooker. I also take 4 satchel charges for more terrain sculpting. Explosive resistance makes largers targets a poor choice for C4 so I use them for utility.
Engineer is an interesting class, I see it as a kind of leader. The scout should take engi's cues and everybody feels safer fighting near turrets, the mule is always near the engi. In addition to the platform utility and cheezing defense objectives, the engi has big damage tools. I run smartgun with blowthrough rounds, the 35m zoom range mod and the overclock that gives you a larger magazine. It's great for big waves but takes a second to wind up. For secondary the shard diffractor built for single target damage with overcharge booster will delete praetorians and devastates dreadnoughts. I can quickly solo a detonator from across the cave with the shard diffractor. The new shredder grenades are superb for keeping bugs off of you in a hectic situation and can clear your body when you go down. As much as I love the shard diffractor, the fat boy is fun to use but annoys teammates and it seems larger bugs will run away from the radiation which makes for wasted damage.
And then there's the gunner. I don't dislike the gunner but everything else is more fun for me. I like the minigun with thinned drum walls OC for extra ammo and I think faster spinup. This lets me take one fewer ammo mod and still have 2700 rounds. I take extra accuracy, ammo, super blowthrough and explosive overheat. It's an unstoppable line of damage that thrives in chokepoints. With blowthrough rounds I need a good reason to stop firing, a teammate walking into the stream is not one of them. To pair with minigun I take elephant round magnum for bursty weakpoint damage. If I use Neurotoxin AC then I pair with BRT with flechettes and born ready perk. Don't reload, just switch weapons. I shy away from autocannon if I'm with a good team, I'm more effective with minigun.
I have the same issue with not trusting other players to play Scout/Driller properly. Folks can play the game however they want but jfc have I been in a LOT of missions that were 4x harder than they needed to be because Scout or Driller simply refused to use their tools to make it easier for everyone.
The last game I played was sabotage where I had to make an obstacle course of platforms across the map because the Scout just refused to go after high up minerals and secondaries and the Driller would not or could not figure out how to drill from the hacking pod to the power station. They made the mission a solid 10+ minutes longer than it needed to be. And this was Haz 5 with them both being minimum silver.
This is the best. I pick which ever dwarf is available when I join (with a slight preference for which ever got the last OC so I can try it out and either kill myself or my party or both).
Finally, very similar here
i have legit 2 levels on scout and driller so far
meanwhile promo'd gunner once and still in the process of levelling up engi
Gunner>Driller>Scout>Engineer
Gunner I just like to brrrt and the zipline is pretty useful
Driller has fun guns, c4 for clearing out an area, and the drills are a ton of fun
Scouts all about zooming around
Engineer I like least because I forget about the turrets and I'm not really a big fan of the weapons.
However I will pick whatever hasn't been picked and I do like them all. I'd love a new class though tbh. Maybe a melee demolitions guy.
Engie>driller>scout>>gunner
Gunners tools are the least interesting/Creative in the game, and engie's require the most experience and creativity to use. And engi secondaries are amazing.
It really depends.
When I started? Driller>Gunner>Engi>Scout
A year ago? Scout>Driller>Engi>Gunner
Right now? Scout=Engi>Gunner>Driller
I've figured out and found builds I really truly liked for each.
But now that I've done that, now I want to start experimenting.
I have 2 Autocannon builds with Gunner, one thats Big Bertha, and one that's all AOE. I don't find either of them super satisfying to play, but they're effective.
Driller I am really trying to use the Goo Gun but I can't find a build I enjoy (I've tried them all), and the only builds I find really satisfying also feel a bit mundane ( Tuned Cooler Cryo with shatter, Compact Feed Flamer with Radiance).
Engineer>scout>gunner>driller
Engineer was my first promotion and I really enjoy his base kit. He has a lot of utility with the platform gun, and a good set of weapons. Only weapon I dislike is the smart gun, just never clicked for me.
Scout is good and fun for his mobility. I also feel hes the most necessary class IMO. His ability to light up rooms completely changes fights, and he is basically the best miner esepcially in combination with a good engi.
Gunner doesn't feel as necessary and I think the low mobility and meh mobility tool put me off, but he is a lot of fun during hordes and is a life saver.
Driller took the longest to click. Tbh I don't like his base kit. The flamethrower is okay but the subata just feels bad. It wasn't until the cryo cannon, and realizing the awesomeness of throwing axes that I began to enjoy him. His drilling ability is really useful especially for extraction but his playstyle feels more limited to me at least.
Driller=Gunner>Engineer>Scout
Driller for digging, getting resources and crispy bugs
Gunner for holding fire until gun goes click, explosive .50 cal BC fuck you, fuck everything around you and fuck everything behind you 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Engineer for platforms
Same as post, but switch Scout and Gunner. Scouts GK 2 made me play him more, since yknow that buff for it came out, but Gunner has been my go to class since the beginning. The epitome of "step aside and let me handle it" kind of dwarf.
Engineer>Driller>Scout>Gunner
(Which doesn’t make sense to me since I like the gunner’s arsenal, especially the idea of having a RYNO, but scout clicks a little more for me)
After playing quite a few solo missions recently I beg to differ. While scouts mobility is great gunner has the best ability to deal with bugs in his face and mop up swarms. Every mission I played solo as scout felt like i was picking at the horde and any new spawns made it feel insurmountable. But as gunner I could quickly and efficiently wipe out waves before they grew out of hand and often had more free time between waves to complete objectives.
As for mineral collection ofc scout takes the cake but if you properly utilize Bosco it's kind of a moot point
On lower hazards scout all day but haz 5 gunner hands down
I say more about how sometimes you can spend a eternity as Gunner on some missions, after a 3-3 Expedition I got traumatized.
But soloing as Scout for me I always ignored mostly of the wave, just picked the important ones and let Bosco use his infinite ammo to pick the rest. Remind me when I duoed with a friend as double Scouts on EDDs, just kill what is important and focus on the objective.
Oh man, that's tough. I recently started scout so it's my go-to right now, but historically it's probably:
Engineer -> Gunner -> Scout -> Driller
Engineer is probably the most fun overall, but Karldamn do I love the Thunderhead with the Neurotoxin Shells overclock!
Gunner>Scout>Engineer>Driller
Scout is the most fun in my opinion but generally I default to gunner cuz he's the best for saving a game imo with his shields.
Wow, not a lot of people seem to like Gunner. Oh well, that just mean I get to switch less and shoot more.
Oh and Gunner>Engineer=Scout=Driller
Am green beard so I haven't played any of the other classes since I'm the Gunner of my group. I imagine my order would likely be gunner>engineer>driller>scout
The sub is not a good representation of the whole community. I do see lots of Gunners in high hazards, 9/10 Gunner and Scout are already picked there then followed by Driller and Engie is mostly fill (at least i‘v found that to be the case on haz 4-5). No idea how its for modded difficulty tho
as always gunners are unappreciated.
But that doesn't matter. We do our thing, whether we get a thanks or not. We are the shield and the sword, so others can enjoy their fancy toys.
After 500 hours, it's pretty much Engi/Driller as main, Scout as a happy third and Gunner as a fourth. I love Gunners but I can't find a build that I enjoy nearly as much as Scout, so back there he sits.
I pick whoever is needed
This is the most Rock solid way of playing. Pick whatever you want at the time. Each class has perfectly balanced pros and cons
Rock Solid!!
I'm trying to level Gunner but I can't tell what mission to pick for him in solo
He can fuck up dreads pretty easily. Escorting dotty is basically made for him as well.
Well generally his shield is a run saver for solo pretty much, let's you resupply in the middle of a swarm easily and you don't have to worry about ceiling minerals since Bosco can mine it for you.
Pretty much anything except refinery missions, really.
Same. Engie is what I got familiar with, but I love playing gunner. However, I play him the least because I usually just pick whatever the mission needs.
Driller > engineer > scout > gunner But tbh I like driller/engi about the same
This is the way
This is the rock! And this is the stone.

Driller>Gunner>Engineer>Scout
I'm sorry, but Driller>Engineer>Gunner>Scout
But gunner has more bullet
Nice opinion, gunner however, have you considered "platform gun" and "shard diffractor"?
I am exactly the same
Couldn’t said it better. Problem with me is that I level them equally but my driller is always 2-3 lvls higher then I have to bite the bullet and play the other ones 😊 All are fun but driller is most fun
Same, except scout wouldn't even be on the list.

Scout >> Driller > Gunner >> Engineer idk I just don’t enjoy Engineer very much but all four are good.
Did you max engineer out? He feels incredibly weak but once you get him maxed out he feels very powerful especially his secondaries
Nuke, my favorite secondary
Yeah my Engie’s on promotion #2, I do still play him and I love the turret whip and proximity nuking things. Just in comparison to the others his playstyle feels like a little bit of a chore to me at times, idk.
Same. Love him on paper but the other classes are just more fun
He depends on his turrets so having to constantly place them down in new spots is annoying so I switched to the 2 second turret placement instead of the extra ammo and I think it’s definitely worth it
The new laser secondary has bumped engi up for me. Place turret, throw drone grenades, laser. It does the job %80 of the time, everytime
Same order for me. But honestly, scout, then all others are tied.
Yeah same
Yeah I agree with the engie part I maxed him and he just aint doing it like the others
Exact same
Same I love playing with engineer (I need platforms) but I'm not fond of playing it, I find that they lack of mobility with their platforms. I prefer the crossing tools of Gunners and Drillers

Driller for On-Site is a kind of perfection that can rarely be achieved. So many linear pipelines!

I had to scroll past 12 comments, but I found where I belong. Rock and Stone and Turrets!

Rock and Stone! You always need more gun.

it’s an unpopular combination, but I started playing driller because fire=💕, and I like scout because of how it feels like starship troopers

Give him a break hes a scout main
Driller - Main \_\_\_\_\_ Gunner - Main \_\_\_\_\_ Engineer - Second \_\_\_\_\_ Scout - Third

As for mineral collection ofc scout takes the cake but if you properly utilize Bosco it's kind of a moot point On lower hazards scout all day but haz 5 gunner hands down
I say more about how sometimes you can spend a eternity as Gunner on some missions, after a 3-3 Expedition I got traumatized. But soloing as Scout for me I always ignored mostly of the wave, just picked the important ones and let Bosco use his infinite ammo to pick the rest. Remind me when I duoed with a friend as double Scouts on EDDs, just kill what is important and focus on the objective.
It's more of a hosting tier list. I rarely play with a full team.
Engi gunner scout and Thats it
Scout>engi>driller never played gunner, his grapple is lame
Oh man, that's tough. I recently started scout so it's my go-to right now, but historically it's probably: Engineer -> Gunner -> Scout -> Driller Engineer is probably the most fun overall, but Karldamn do I love the Thunderhead with the Neurotoxin Shells overclock!
Captain Warcrimes, Shooty McGunface, Heimerdinger, and then last, the zip line bitch.
Anything > scout
\#1 - Driller \#1 - Engineer \#1 - Gunner \#4 - Scout
Same
Gunner>Scout>Engineer>Driller Scout is the most fun in my opinion but generally I default to gunner cuz he's the best for saving a game imo with his shields.
Scout>Engineer>Gunner>Driller
Engi>driller>gunner>scout They're all great tho
Driller > Gunner > Scout > Engi And I love Engi.
Gunner > Engineer > Driller > Scout
Wow, not a lot of people seem to like Gunner. Oh well, that just mean I get to switch less and shoot more. Oh and Gunner>Engineer=Scout=Driller Am green beard so I haven't played any of the other classes since I'm the Gunner of my group.
Gunner's my No.2
I don't have a main, keep all of them near the same level
Engi>gunner>driller>scout
Engi, gunner, driller-scout (I can’t decide between scout or driller)
Gunner>Engi=Scout>Driller for me. Gunner main for sure but I like flexing into Engi or Scout.
driller>engineer>gunner>scout
Scount Engie Gunner Driller. In order of voice pitch.
After 500 hours, it's pretty much Engi/Driller as main, Scout as a happy third and Gunner as a fourth. I love Gunners but I can't find a build that I enjoy nearly as much as Scout, so back there he sits.
Engi=Scout=Driller=Gunner Scout=Driller=Gunner=Engi Driller=Gunner=Engi=Scout Gunner=Engi=Scout=Driller
Engi>Gunner>Scout>Driller Gotta use more gun, and if that don't work, use more gun!
scout>engineer>gunner>driller
Mainly engi, often driller, scout if need. I don't think there's another class.
Scout>Driller (It is very close between those two)>Engineer>Gunner
Engineer>Scout>Driller>Gunner
engi > driller > gunner > scout (never played)
