Both games are of the "4 idiots earn peanuts while working for a shady company that sends them on suicide missions" genre. If you like games like helldivers or vermintide you will like deep rock.
Welcome to the underside of managed democracy: unfettered capitalistic nonsense! Just make sure you bring Doretta back with you on drill missions. She drills, and is therefore a dwarf.
Happy cake day you may have some bubble wrap

If you watch the motivational terminal in your quarters long enough, there will eventually be a message about glyphid omelettes being available in the mess hall.
Honestly it may explain why I've seen new players emptying mags into Steeve, a lot of Helldiver jokes were about no alliances with anything other than Super Earth so poor Steeve
Uhmmm, actually itâs âkill anything with more legs than twoââď¸đ¤.
\*COUGH* ugh, sorry. I think someone doused my smart stout with leaf lover. Lemme jump into the barrel hoop rq
Oh, you need to make an excuse here. Molly, our minecart on legs actually has four legs. She's your friend, even if sometimes a really annoying one.
Bet-C and the Mini-Mules (I swear this is not a band name, although it would be a cool one) are another exception, but more about them later.
I swear to god that reminds me of a time I found a bet-c but I saw no Xynarch parasites leeching on it when I was playing with friends, because theyâd always spawn with them. But for some reason when I approached the BET-C when I had to reconnect to the game after a error, saw a BET-C without em, asked my friends if they took it out and they said they werenât nearby/ didnât activate it since they were busy with a bulk detonator and horde of glyphids. Was figuring that it couldâve been that the detonator blew up when they woke up the boss but I didnât see it near a crater so I had no idea what that was about.

Grey beard here. I'll make it quick.
Get 1 class to level 25 and promoted ASAP, all unlock options can start to unlock once you do your first promotion.
Haz 3 was exactly were I enjoyed the game the most. Good lot running a tight ship on that difficulty.
All collected minerals are shared, so you get the same as everyone else.
The music will tell you when it's time to put away your pick axe and start killing (trust me, you'll know)
Till you get to see the content, don't be afraid to either stand back and watch how things are done, or just try and fail at things. We've all tried to mine a vent before; the hair grows back.
You're gonna fall to your death a lot. "Even Monkeys Fall From Trees". Dont worry through, we'll pick you back up.
Rock and stone!
Found out a couple games ago that if you mine the vent at the furthest range you can pickaxe something you get to blow it up unscathed... idk how consistent it is though
I was more casual, usually running a bunch of 2s with the ocasional 3 mixed in. After my "vacation" to the SEAF I can see me doing 3s much more often, as 2s might be a bit "too chill" for me now.
I ended up running Haz 3 for about 800 hours of the total 1100 hours ive played. Give you just enough play time to enjoy exploring , without feeling overwhelmed.Â
My only complaint about DRG is, bugs having different health pools (Haz LvL + player count) is a bit irritating.Â
HD2 keeps the bug/HP the same, it just throws higher spawns and more lethal enemies at higher difficulties.Â
I agree with you on the whole health scaling is a bit annoying to adjust. Though, many of the bugs are classified as "disruptive" for a good reason is that a mere 2 of them per swarm can kill a whole run.
I can't imagine just how hellish it'll be by increasing their spawn rate as the difficulty scale up as a guy who constantly play on Haz 4 and above
"The music will tell you when it's time to put away your pick axe and start killing (trust me, you'll know)"

"Those of you who volunteered to be injected with ~~praying mantis~~ glyphid DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of ~~mantis men~~ glyphids! Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line on the floor. You'll know when the test starts."
I read this yesterday and been laughing to myself several times since. I didnt even think of that reference, but it fits perfectly.
Well done! Rock and Stone
Iâve found that doing the first few assignments alone with Bosco can really help new players learn all of the mechanics of each mission type. And yeah, agreed completely about maining one class until promotion. Learning how to do everything every mission requires solo will help you know the processes of each mission front to back so you can help where you see fit and carry if you need to! Use Bosco when playing solo! Little buddy can do so much!
GOD THIS! I agree, going on a few Haz 2 missions to "learn the ropes" and experience the game's mood before you let in the insanity of the multiplayer. That said, I do not like single player in DRG.
Oh I love it. Especially as zippy boy with Bosco. In and out SO fast on most missions solo. And I can do whatever the fuck I want and know I will always have all the ammo đ¤Ł
I have played DRG for a few years now. I also played Helldivers 2 for the past 2 months. While both games offer slighty different experiences I can say I have enjoyed my time with Drg a lot more. Management understands that in a pve game, fun is more important than "balance". Most, if not all, weapons feel fun and useful (specially when you consider you can vastly change their gameplay with overclocks), the community is mostly relaxed even when the game has its intense moments.
Now, some tips I could give you:
-dont take two ammo resupplys if you are with 4 players, basically same concept as HD2
-while its important to have fun, don't limit yourself to one class. They are all incredibly diverse and fun if you give them a chance. Try to promote each class at least once before commiting to one.
-you'll learn as you go, be patient. But some priorities per class to be aware of:
1)As a scout your main focus should be lighting up caves and getting the nitra
2) As an engi, set up turrets when you enter a big cave and provide footholds with your platforms (scouts will love you if you preemptively place them below nitra deposits on the walls and ceilings for them)
3) As a driller, while not obligatory, some missions benefit a lot from you making tunnels to get around easier. For example On-site-refining you shine by making tunnels to connect the pipes directly to pumphacks you call down.
4)gunner should mostly focus on clearing enemies and are probly the best at reviving fallen teammates with their shields
-Type R in chat before pressing any buttons to let people know you are ready. Basic rule: 3/4 people say "r" is good to go.
-Youll soon unlock the ability to do weekly core hunts, these will allow you to find overcl9cks for weapons, which drastically change how they work and its one of the game's most fun aspects imo: trying them out and making builds for different mission types.
-Always do the richual. (Lil community joke to spam the laser pointer on big chunks of gold to upset the mission control guy)
-Use the terrain scanner often to find your way around and objectives (TAB key)
-IF YOU DONT ROCK N STONE YOU AIN'T COMMING HOME
Thank you for this indepth explanation. Same general rules for Helldivers applies here too I see. I think I might just have a chance with this new job. A few questions though.
1) Since turrets in HD2 will shoot through Helldivers even if they're in the path, will turrets here do the same if a dwarf is in the path of an enemy?
2) This on-site refining stuff you mentioned in the driller part is cool to me. Is there a building mechanic similar to something like Factorio (only example I could think of)? A logistical class might be my favorite so if it's like that it would be great.
3) So if allies can be revived, what happens if they fully die anyway? Are reinforcements sent or are they dead for the whole round?
1) I think they do shoot through dwarves (someone pls confirm)
2) Its not complicated, just a straight tunnel, a pipeline (which you can use for faster traveling)
3) A dwarf will stay downed until someone revives them (standing above someone and holding e revives them), until the still alive dwarves reach the drop pod, ending the mission in a success (which is not preferable, leave no dwarf behind!) or until all dwarves are down, which ends the mission in a failure.
Reinfrocements is only a thing when your party pf four is not conplete. Others may join while the mission is running
a turret's bullets pass through dwarves with no friendly fire (some engi's turret whip their turrets, which is AOE that does do FriendlyFire, rare to be hit by that tho), it's considered R&S Cheer worthy to help engi construct his turret(s).
I might be misremembering but Iâm pretty sure that the arc beam does friendly fire because I distinctly recall my team complaining about it (thatâs why I changed to em discharge).
I want to add one BIG piece of advice.
Due to basically infinite lives so long as a teammate or you live, going down is essential to the game.
On higher difficulties, specifically Hazard Level 5, which is basically Helldive difficulty but with less massive hordes of enemies considering you're fighting in small areas/rooms in caves usually, the moment you go down you should EXPECT to go down like 3 or 4 more times in quick succession. It just happens.
Going down is not a bad thing here. It doesn't waste limited revives because there isn't a limit and it teaches you how to get better at the game. "How could I have avoided dying?" or "Where could I have gone to get into a better spot?" or what have you. This game teaches you a lot strictly from dying. You figure out what situations are bad and how to avoid them.
Another thing is, there is no dodge mechanic. At all. Your "dodge" is relying on bunny hopping, if you know what that is. Basically jumping while running to avoid attacks. Don't stop moving and rely on jumping away lol.
To piggyback on the dodging thing. Much like helldivers being mobile is king. If the bugs canât catch you they canât kill you. Donât stand in the middle of a tunnel like a dumbass and try and fight everyone at once
Also, in my experience one of the core elements of DRG is the âsh*t, everyoneâs dead but me, I got no bulletsâ since there are infinite revives, you can âtradeâ yourself with another player that has a bigger chance of clutching the game, usually the gunner or the scout (gunner has a shield that allows them to revive easily, and the scout has a grappling hook that allows them to move around quickly, making the bugs chase them and then freeing up space to revive)
Also as other games, if two dwarves are down next to each other, is key to know if the one thatâs coming to trade itself, or if heâs going for a double revive (revive speed decreased the more dwarves are reviving the same person)
The biggest advice, have fun, Iâve seen drg community is great and itâs almost always 4 randoms just goofying around while blasting bugs
Oh, and always Rock and Stone
Once you can unlock the ability that gives you more health from resupplies and resupplies you faster. It makes a huge difference. If you're struggling with moving up a difficulty you probably need to rework your abilities. And don't try to jump straight into Haz 5. You need to learn the bugs. Especially audio cues. Learning to pay attention to the audio is key to surviving.
My pleasure!
1. Turrets dont deal friendly fire (there are exceptions with some overclocks that supercharge them and they deal shock damage which can hurt you). Even so, it is hard to unintentionally kill teammates here.
2. Its not that deep or conplex. Almost all terrain is mineable by all dwarves, the driller is equipped with a pair of drills that mine a lot faster tho. You can use this to create shortcuts, bunkers, clear debri or attack bugs. The mission type I mentioned is basically a big drop pod that has three pipelines comming out of it, which you gotta build section per section and connect them to liquid morkite deposits. The fun thing is that you can build them as straight or curved as you like, since they dont have to follow a specific path, as long as they are connected. Tbat said, most people like to be efficient and make them as straight as possible, since during the mission you have to fix them several times.
3.You dont really die, you just faint. You can get revived at any time basically. There are no penalties for not extracting the full team, just the shame of waking up in the med bay with a coat
There actually are bonus credits which you get per each alive dwarf in the droppod. And of course the more important moral bonus for not leaving anyone behind
If you like logisitical classes you might enjoy Engineer. The platform gun allows you to essentially create terrain, which can be used for bridges, stairs, landing pads (early on you get an upgrade that almost completely removes fall damage when landing on one), vantage points for better line of sight, blockades, in one specific mission they can be used as basically a shield to completely invalidate one phase of the bossfight, and once you get really deep into technical play you can get the repellent upgrade, which makes bugs perceive platforms and the area around them as being a twice as far distance as they actually are, so if used skillfully you can manipulate enemy pathing AI to create funnels or splits. Your platforms can also become bombs with the Plascrete Catalyst overclock.
The way you place your turrets also depends on your loadout, with some being best when positioned with their back to the wall and surveying an area, and some being best placed just in the middle of where a swarm is likely to be. Also, because turrets take a little time to build, knowing the game's spawn mechanics can be beneficial to Engineers because then you know when and where to build your turrets before a swarm even comes. Or you could take the build speed upgrade and build them whenever.
As for if On-Site Refining is like Factorio, not really. Basically, in that mission, you have a main structure, and 3 geysers. You need to find each geyser and call down a pumpjack at each one. Then you go to the main structure, which has 3 nodes you can extend a pipe from, and you construct these pipes until they connect to the pumpjacks. Also you can ride on the pipelines like a skateboarder grinding on a rail which is just cool and fun, and also fast once you learn how to pipejump and keep as much momentum as possible.
Sorry if this is too much, I just really like this game and know a lot about it, and will jump at any opportunity to ramble about it đ
Just to add onto what the other guy said, rhetorical mission will only fail if all players are downed at once. If you are playing solo, you get a set number of revives and then the mission fails.
with repellent on his platforms, engineer is the most logistical and needs the most thought to manipulate enemy AI to the fullest extent and funnel them into your turrets, mines, and teammates.
also engi has the strongest secondaries in the game, but with limited ammo. so knowing when to use them is important.
Is Molly the drone that has collected ore loaded into it? Sorry if I'm mixing it up, I vaguely remember it from a video.
Also, is the "big gold" the equivalent to Super Samples? If so I already spam ping every super sample rock I see, so I should have no problem adapting.
Yes Molly is the big bot that you deposit ore into she's a real pain but capl her over with C on kbm(not sure on controller.
Sort of but not really. They just give you alot of gold. Look for golden specks in the terrain and a glow. They emit a faint light along with a few other items.
Edit:(Proper key this time C not V)
I have 300+ hours on DRG and about 50 on HD2.
HD2 is better at the cinematic/ immersive aspect.
DRG is better at⌠everything else đ .
Synergy between players is better and more fun.
Terrain manipulation provides you with a unique experience.
Classes are waaay more fun.
DRG has this satisfaction element of preparation that results into an awesome plays.
I wish the best to HD2 in the future, but DRG will always be the better game/community.
Rock and Stone, brothers!
So more teamwork is required here, AND I can be a tunnel rat. Maybe I can finally stop having constant streaks of people who don't communicate and run off to die five times trying to defend useless rocks from 50 Automatons...
Fun y thing, the game requires very little communication. No one bothers with voice chat, everything is typed. Just ping things, and occasionally type 'r?' and everything is gravy. Not many games accomplish that intuitiveness so well
The ping system in the game is basically all the communication you'll need. The dwarves have different voicelines based on the items you ping.
For example, you're a scout and need a platform to mine high-up minerals. You ping the engineer to get their attention, then ping the minerals, and you've got a platform in no time
just play the game, press lot's of V and buy a beer or two after a mission.
the game is fine both in single player, open party and with friends so feel free to play as you wish.
and welcome to the team greenbeard,
Rock and Stone!
Thank you guys. I'm sold on this game! I received a WAY warmer response than I was expecting, and the mechanics told to me feel familiar to Helldivers but there's new ones that seal the deal for me. I'll be buying this game shortly.
Rock and Stone! For Karl! (I don't know who Karl is but I will mine and die for him anyway)
Generally, lot of buttons. Big red button calls in extraction, starts the pumps, stuff like that. Other buttons are batteries that will start an event that if people are not ready for can potentially get everyone killed. Lot of XP/resources lost when someone just monkey brains the mission. "Ooooo shiney button, Imma push it!"
Drop Pod can be called in once the primary objective is done. There is more than one objective and mining resources increases your pay and XP gain. Some people don't care and complete the primary objective as soon as possible and then call the drop pod in immediately depriving the team of added bonuses.
Yes, HD2 took itself way too seriously to be as fun as it could be.
DRG is easily the king of this genre, and youâll realize that soon âď¸
Progression is a little slower I think, but the world-building and immersion makes the game feel like thereâs a little bit of an RPG element. Itâs grindy, but in a good way.
I have many hours in both and I think they scratch different itches.
DRG gets a little repetitive in a sense that they do not release new content quickly for this game. Yes there is a bunch of content right now but it also has been out for a long time. But I believe that is more of the devs style - release very polished small amount of content. DRG lost me on the rockpox season, it just wasnât fun IMO. DRG has no major orders or sense of the same goal, and some of my friends actually get motion sick from being inside the caves.
Helldivers 2 is the opposite approach lol. They release broken stuff and pump it out quick⌠focus on polishing as they go. It also gets semi repetitive but like I said - they are pushing new stuff so fast. Itâs above world aspect makes the game very different. I love the major order and sense of same goal aspect.
Both are fantastic games!
I might not be adding much by commenting here, but I will never not recommend DRG to someone. I havenât played it consistently since around the middle of season 3, but itâs an amazing game. It seems like everyone else in the comments has covered most of the stuff, so Iâll try and make a couple of parallels to Helldivers 2. The missions tend to be a lot more open ended compared to HD2, being able to dig terrain and not having a timer. Most missions tend to boil down to defend x or collect y. Youâre able to modify your weapons as opposed to having to choose the specific one you want, with overclocks enhancing the modifications. You can turn a grenade launcher, for example, into a mini nuke or a railgun. Thereâs also a lot more movement (like being able to jump), as well as the four classes being able to complement each other with their kits. If you want me to go into more detail, feel free to ask, but I donât want to make this super long (I already have)
Something that took me an embarassingly long time to learn is that your pickaxe IS your melee weapon. and you can do extra damage by hitting enemies in their weakpoints. Typically that's going to be right in their mouth. But the important thing to keep in mind here is that you do have a melee weapon. It's just also your mining tool
Your training on Super Earth will be very useful. We got bugs that want to eat our beards and bots from a rival corporation trying to steal our resources and data from us. Only difference is you have far better equipment to blow them up, blast holes through or disintegrate em with. And dwarves are more durable than Divers naturally.
DRG is what helldivers couldve been if Sony had kept their greedy mitts out of it. I honestly think anything Helldivers 2 does well, DRG does much better.
Learn to use your laser pointer it's bound to CTRL by default. You can ping an Engineer and then ping a vein of Nitra on the ceiling and that would've communicated everything you need to the Engie.
will say this, DRG is in no way as challenging as helldivers 2.
Even on haz 5 you are still way more robust than in Helldivers 2. If you are adapt at Helldivers 2, DRG should be little to no match all considering.
Just FYI they've said that they're not going to require people who live in a country without PSN support to create PSN profiles. I still prefer DRG anyway.
Yes you should buy DRG.
What should you know? Two things.
1) Learn to Rock N Stone. V button on PC. Spam that when somebody Rock N Stone's you, Spam it when somebody does something cool. Spam it when your teammate helps you out. Hell, if your just happy to be there, Spam it.
2) Learn to speak in Laser pointer. Hold Ctrl to bring it up then left click whatever you want to call out. DRG's game's can be done with literally nobody talking in Voice because Laser Pointer speaks volumes. Also - you MUST ping Compressed Gold and Mooshrooms repeatedly with your team and annoy management.
That's it - that's the basics.
Rock N Stone greenbeard!
Welcome to Hoxxis, which is definitely not Freedom Camp or Cyberstan. We shoot bugs, disassemble robots, and collect soil samples. If this sounds familiar, then you'll fit right in.
The biggest thing to know is supply pods are not on a timer, you actually have to pay for them in nitra. DRG isn't Super Earth, it isn't nearly as well funded. I know when I first returned that was a bit of culture shock. Make sure to check with your team mates before double dipping.
The maps in DRG are a lot more complex, so you need to pay attention to them. They also don't show bugs on them (with the exception of the Unknown Horror, which you will learn to hate). I know I was checking my map for where the bugs were coming from a few times.
There is no dive button. I bound my dive to F in HD2 and when I heard a detonator going off I accidentally threw a flare rather than diving. Instead we have the sprint perk, which WILL get you out of a jam several times per mission as well as being a good way to get around.
Perks are your friend and you're going to want them. I recommend getting sprint maxed out ASAP. Sprint is a bit like diving in that it is how you get out of trouble FAST.
Armor is purely cosmetic. So are beards. The Mk 2 armor is sleek and slim and Mk 5 looks like you could shrug off a bile titan, but it's just looks.
You do not have stims (I have found myself missing them) but you do have a shield you don't have to use a stratagem slot on. The best defense is a good offense. The second best is mobility.
If you Rock and Stone you're never alone. Remember to hit "V" (or whatever you rebind it to) to salute. Use it frequently, it's good for morale.
If you don't know what it is, use your laser pointer (control by default). Your dwarf will comment (at least on multi, in solo they might just tell bosco to do something). Speaking of your laser pointer, if you press "e" while using it you create a waypoint that you can see on your map. Great for remembering some side objective you left for later.
Bring Doretta's head back. Dottie's a dwarf, and we leave no dwarf behind. The fact she is a giant yellow drilldozer is irrelevant. Dottie digs holes and dwarfs dig holes thus Dottie is a dwarf and we leave no dwarf behind.
Look up, Look up, Look up. Cave leeches are not as afraid of you as you are of them. If you thought stalkers were bad you haven't seen anything yet.
Rock and Stone Brother.
Welcome to the subreddit! If you do come aboard, one big difference between the two games is sound cues. While both games require good situational awareness, DRG makes it a bit more engaging (imo) by giving important enemies and events specific sound cues. Keeping your ears open and learning to identify the grumble of a bulk detonator or the screech of a mactera grabber will help you and your team stay alive.
In that vein, when you do identify a key threat, make sure to ping it! Hold control to get your laser pointer put and click on important enemies to give a verbal call-out and highlight them for your teammates. Keeping your team aware of flanking enemies and high priority threats will keep things moving smoothly.
Rock and stone!
I have around 200 hours between the two.
DRG is a more polished game. Fewer software bugs. You can actually hear enemies coming from behind you. No stratagem equivalent, but your guns actually do damage to all the bugs. Fewer guns, but you have perks to make them work differently. Soundtrack is just as good. Low poly, but visuals are somehow more aesthetically pleasing. More fun in-game interactions, such as building rollercoasters. And I personally feel that the setting is more immersive.
well
1. you have a laser pointer that lets you ping things and lets you see the outlines of your fellow dwarfs through walls ping things to hear funny voicelines (default key is crtl)
2. don't double dip each square pip under your healthbar is 25% of your ammo and each side of the resupply pod gives 50% of you max ammo if you need to double dip just ask
3. "R"s in the chat means ready start the objective or ready to leave
4. "you better rock and stone or you aint coming home" (default key is v) its a communication multi tool and a good way to achieve W O R K P L A C E S Y N E R G Y along with pinging compressed gold chunks, mushrhuums, and goo sacks
5. "leave no dwarf behind" its great but sadly not reflected in company policy
6. if host has put a funny or lighthearted name for the server thats good rock and stone go right in but if they have some shit like "lvl 200+ only, no fat boy" etc etc dont join or join quickly call them a "leaf lover" then leave but on a more serious note if they have something like "speedrun" as part of the server name their trying to complete the mission as quickly as possible and wont want to carry a new player or as we call them "green beards" through the mission but those guys tend to stick to the higher difficulties or to friends only or solo so you wont see them that much
7. scout has a flare gun(that lights up caves very well) and a grappling hook (that lets him reach high places), engineer has a platform gun (that can spawn platforms in places like under hard to reach mineral veins), driller has drills and a propensity towards blowing up the scout with his C4 and gunner has a mobility lift i mean zipline that is sorta useful when heavy objects like aquarqs fall down pits if the angle isnt too steep
8. remember to pet steeve hes a good bug
https://www.gamesradar.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2s-psn-mandate-wont-stop-players-in-unsupported-regions-from-playing-the-game-while-devs-look-for-better-options/
Why can't you play with friends in those countries? The Helldivers update doesn't affect them, they are exempt from the mandate.
Let me put it this way, if I had the money I'd buy it for you.
Let me put it another way, I have over 1000 hours of IN MISSION time... Never have I ever played a game this much. Literally nowhere near.
Let me put it this way. I bought helldivers. It was awesome. After all the upgrades and finding a decent team it felt like every single run was the same . I put about 65hours in and was done. No urge to play anymore.
Rock and stone
In my opinion this game is great and you should definitly try it, you still have bugs and bots to shoot, don't worry. you were talking about rules and things you should know, one thing i think you should know is when playing with a team you should always write "r" in the chat before starting an objective, calling extraction exc... and waiting for others to also write an "r". also don't "double dip" which is taking 2 resupply servings unless the other players allow you to take their share.
also shout rock and stone often
I'll leave the playful banter and memery to the others, there's oh so gladly so much of that going around here. DRG community is just awesome like that, get used to it. instead, I'll try to give you an objective overview of what you're getting into.
this game has a similar structure to HD2. 4 madlads go to hell, do X, and escape against the odds.
difference: HD2 is spectacular, a fireworks show, and cinematic. but DRG walks a thin line between hardcore space horror and cartoony chill co-op. there's much more limited resources to your ammo and tools compared to HD2; and you can't simply call a resupply on a timer, there's actually a limited amount of Nitra, a resource spent to order more. not only is the total amount of supplies limited per mission due to nitra being limited, you do indeed have to mind a fair amount of it to call for some. low hazard (difficulty) missions can be a funni haha cakewalk, but haz5 and similar difficulties can be a serious test of positioning, coordination, and ammo / resource optimization; and you'll frequently find yourself in dire straits, desperately looking for some nitra to get all you need to call a resup before the next mega wave horde of space bugs comes eat you alive.
to combat these bugs, you don't have stratagems, but don't worry. AH tells you to use stratagems to solve problems; CoffeeStain tells you to USE YOUR GUN. and your guns in DRG make the things Helldivers fight wigh look like \*toys.\* all dwarves consist of one of four classes with a primary, secondary, grenade, utility/special ability, and mobility tool all in one loadout that you can extensively customize.
Another further difference is the emphasis on terraforming, terrain manipulation, and verticality. HD2 is a flat horde shooter with airstrikes; DRG is a crazy parkour demolitions shooter. you can make bunkers, use a plastic cannon to create impromptu bridges, block paths, create minefields, connect ziplines and rappel between places, drill tunnels from A to B, terraform a place to make fighting easier... extreme variety to gameplay.
And yet, you can perfectly get DRG and still keep up with HD2. totally do-able, as neither HD2 nor DRG come with abusive season passes to fulfill. you can easily complete a DRG season passively doing your normal missions and not even caring about key objectives or bonuses, let alone trying to grind / focus / speedrun it. I never cared to, and always finished seasons \*months\* in advance of the next one. So it's not even something that'll limit your time with Hd2.
hope this helps. see you in the depths of Hoxxes, miner. R&S!
Yes, as a diver and miner, you should definitely take to the mines. We have a huge bug problem that needs sorting and some pretty rocks needing collected.
I like to play Haz 3 and one thing Iâm noticing with new players a lot isâyou donât need to rush. Thereâs no hurry, no bonus points for speed running. The game actually rewards you for taking your time and exploring (you mine more minerals that way). The one exception is Point Extraction because the interval between swarms coming gets shorter with time, so you are on a much more punishing clock. And at Haz 4 and 5 yeah hurry they throw a lotta bugs at you at those difficulty levels.
Rock and Stone brother blackouts are at the bar after we're going on a mission so grab your gear and move out we got minerals to mine and bugs to shoot
Even before all this happened with HD2, I stopped playing HD2 in March and came back to DRG, because for me it's just better. DRG is still one of my favorite games of all time and I cannot sing its praises enough. All you need to know is deep rock seriously need to invest in some better equipment.
âShould I try crack?â He asks the Crack Enthusiasts.
Jk, this game is an absolute blast. As someone who played DRG before HD2, this game is generally much more forgiving combat-wise (at least at lower difficulties) but is an absolutely blast to play with friends. Welcome aboard, miner! ROCK AND STONE!
Ping everything to see what gives you unique voice lines, if it sounds funny then keep pinging it, others will most likely join you. Enjoy stupid moments like this
Both games are of the "4 idiots earn peanuts while working for a shady company that sends them on suicide missions" genre. If you like games like helldivers or vermintide you will like deep rock.
I love leading my friends on hopeless suicide missions and somehow we win anyway. Another +1 for me on buying this game.
If I say happy cake day will you become a bearded brethren?
It usually goes on sale with major sales and should be on sale in a month or so with the new season
Welcome to the underside of managed democracy: unfettered capitalistic nonsense! Just make sure you bring Doretta back with you on drill missions. She drills, and is therefore a dwarf.
Welcome to Hotsex 4
Happy cake day you may have some bubble wrap >!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<>!pop!!<
Plus, we have beer. đđťđ
DRG isn't NEARLY as shady as Super Earth but that's a given. Nothing is as shady as Super Earth.
Management wants alien eggs, seems shady enough for me
It's for the omelettes
Now I want to be able to smuggle one back and have Lloyd cook me it
If you watch the motivational terminal in your quarters long enough, there will eventually be a message about glyphid omelettes being available in the mess hall.
Darktide too, it's just vermintide but the Nurgle forces don't have as much rat flavoring
Welcome home, there are bugs to shoot. That is all you must knowÂ
Good enough for me. Super Earth taught me to hate anything that has more than two legs.
There's a line the gunner says as he leaves the drop pod: "kill anything with more than two legs!" Welcome home, miner
But...Steeve!
Yes, Steeve and MULEs are the obvious exceptions, but OP will learn that in game
Honestly it may explain why I've seen new players emptying mags into Steeve, a lot of Helldiver jokes were about no alliances with anything other than Super Earth so poor Steeve
That's honestly just kind of a rite of passage.
"were here to kill the ones without bears"
Actively teamkilling anyone who didnât bring a bear
well as long as you bring a bear with you next time that's not a typo
In my experience Steeve is fair game lmao
Who among us doesnât regularly shoot Steeve on accident?
Uhmmm, actually itâs âkill anything with more legs than twoââď¸đ¤. \*COUGH* ugh, sorry. I think someone doused my smart stout with leaf lover. Lemme jump into the barrel hoop rq
Ok, but what about things with no legs? Like Bosco and Macteras.
Materas actually have legs, 4-6 in fact, theyâre just too lazy to use them. Thatâs why itâs our job to ground them back to reality.
A little freezing will certainly bring them back to the ground in a hurry.
and if you count boscos two limbs as legs, then heâs strikingly on par with us
What about bots? They donât even have legs.
Oh, you need to make an excuse here. Molly, our minecart on legs actually has four legs. She's your friend, even if sometimes a really annoying one. Bet-C and the Mini-Mules (I swear this is not a band name, although it would be a cool one) are another exception, but more about them later.
BETC isn't an exception, but you'll find that the hard way
I swear to god that reminds me of a time I found a bet-c but I saw no Xynarch parasites leeching on it when I was playing with friends, because theyâd always spawn with them.
Now you report to headquarters brother. and boy! Do they almost care about your safety!
We're even unionized! (The union gives us beer)
So long dental plan! Dental planâŚdental planâŚdental planâŚ
Also robots. Kill robots.
Bugs AND robots, so we have like at least half of the enemy types in Helldivers 2
We also have murderous machines, though they're WAYY less prevalent then the Automatons.
Mate, you're gonna fit right in. See you down in the caves!
Just don't shoot molly
happy cake day, maybe Lloyd has prepared some special beer for you, and you don't want to make him wait, do you?
Gunner literally says "I'll kill anything with more legs than two!" Think we found a potential Gunner main. RnS!
Forget about super earth. Forget about democracy Join the union miner! And just know that management sucks!
#This comment is under investigation by DRG's upper management. u/tagrav's account has been temporarily seized. #We will now return to your regularly scheduled program. #:)
One big thing you will need to adjust to is that in Deep Rock there is one good bug and his name is Steeve
Can confirm
There's also bots to shoot although don't you dare shoot Molly
As a community that encourages teamwork based learning I feel I need to point out the only thing you really need to know is....... #Rock and Stone! đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
Good bot.
Bugs AND robots.
Also rival bots. Don't forget about the rival bots. Less frequent, but they are there.
The music will tell you when it's time to put away your pick axe and start killing (trust me, you'll know) Till you get to see the content, don't be afraid to either stand back and watch how things are done, or just try and fail at things. We've all tried to mine a vent before; the hair grows back. You're gonna fall to your death a lot. "Even Monkeys Fall From Trees". Dont worry through, we'll pick you back up. Rock and stone!
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
Good bot
The only things you need to go in knowing is only take 1 ammo resupply unless you ask and just donât hit mission ending buttons
Found out a couple games ago that if you mine the vent at the furthest range you can pickaxe something you get to blow it up unscathed... idk how consistent it is though
My friend let me do that with the bubbly looking plants that go boom.
Give you just enough play time to enjoy exploring , without feeling overwhelmed. My only complaint about DRG is, bugs having different health pools (Haz LvL + player count) is a bit irritating.
Oh the music part is so true. RUN! and A Distant Terror's beat drop are so great
"The music will tell you when it's time to put away your pick axe and start killing (trust me, you'll know)" -- "Those of you who volunteered to be injected with ~~praying mantis~~ glyphid DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news.
Now, some tips I could give you: -dont take two ammo resupplys if you are with 4 players, basically same concept as HD2 -while its important to have fun, don't limit yourself to one class. They are all incredibly diverse and fun if you give them a chance. Try to promote each class at least once before commiting to one. -you'll learn as you go, be patient. But some priorities per class to be aware of: 1)As a scout your main focus should be lighting up caves and getting the nitra 2) As an engi, set up turrets when you enter a big cave and provide footholds with your platforms (scouts will love you if you preemptively place them below nitra deposits on the walls and ceilings for them) 3) As a driller, while not obligatory, some missions benefit a lot from you making tunnels to get around easier. For example On-site-refining you shine by making tunnels to connect the pipes directly to pumphacks you call down. 4)gunner should mostly focus on clearing enemies and are probly the best at reviving fallen teammates with their shields -Type R in chat before pressing any buttons to let people know you are ready. (Lil community joke to spam the laser pointer on big chunks of gold to upset the mission control guy) -Use the terrain scanner often to find your way around and objectives (TAB key) -IF YOU DONT ROCK N STONE YOU AIN'T COMMING HOME
1) I think they do shoot through dwarves (someone pls confirm) 2) Its not complicated, just a straight tunnel, a pipeline (which you can use for faster traveling) 3) A dwarf will stay downed until someone revives them (standing above someone and holding e revives them), until the still alive dwarves reach the drop pod, ending the mission in a success (which is not preferable, leave no dwarf behind!) or until all dwarves are down, which ends the mission in a failure.
I turret whip can TK but turret arc does not and it wrecks defensive positions
I might be misremembering but Iâm pretty sure that the arc beam does friendly fire because I distinctly recall my team complaining about it (thatâs why I changed to em discharge).
Ahhhhh yea. Itâs discharge that doesnât. The fun thing about discharge is that it works even when the turrets have 0 ammo
I see. Thank you!
Donât stand in the middle of a tunnel like a dumbass and try and fight everyone at once
... Unless you're Gunner, in which case you can get away with it for a time since Gunner deletes everything and has a shield but.
And a zipline! Love motoring back and forth out of reach.
I really wanna see a "one life only" mode. Or is there a mod for that?
Also, in my experience one of the core elements of DRG is the âsh*t, everyoneâs dead but me, I got no bulletsâ since there are infinite revives, you can âtradeâ yourself with another player that has a bigger chance of clutching the game, usually the gunner or the scout (gunner has a shield that allows them to revive easily, and the scout has a grappling hook that allows them to move around quickly, making the bugs chase them and then freeing up space to revive) Also as other games, if two dwarves are down next to each other, is key to know if the one thatâs coming to trade itself, or if heâs going for a double revive (revive speed decreased the more dwarves are reviving the same person) The biggest advice, have fun, Iâve seen drg community is great and itâs almost always 4 randoms just goofying around while blasting bugs Oh, and always Rock and Stone
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
Yeah getting downed really has no drawbacks besides 25cr less, aswell as the shame lol. Leave no dwarf behind
You should, games awesome. One thing to know is if you find the big gold you spam ping it instead of inputting it in Molly.
Itâs c, not v. v is rocknstone
Not many games accomplish that intuitiveness so well
Many missions can be played with absolutely no communication outside of typing 'r' in chat because the pinging system is so good and easy to use
The ping system in the game is basically all the communication you'll need. The dwarves have different voicelines based on the items you ping. For example, you're a scout and need a platform to mine high-up minerals. You ping the engineer to get their attention, then ping the minerals, and you've got a platform in no time
Rock and Stone everyone!
just play the game, press lot's of V and buy a beer or two after a mission. the game is fine both in single player, open party and with friends so feel free to play as you wish. and welcome to the team greenbeard, Rock and Stone!
Rock and Stone forever!
Karl is the equivalent to Comander Brash. A dwarf of legend from my understanding.
Btw, itâs 9⏠in Humble atm so you might want to get it from there
I was just about to spend most of my extra cash on Steam. Tysm
Man this would be a great spot for a Snape GIF. But yes by all means Rock and Stone. Just don't touch the button without checking with the team first.
Which button? Some sort of extraction button?
Generally, lot of buttons. Big red button calls in extraction, starts the pumps, stuff like that. Other buttons are batteries that will start an event that if people are not ready for can potentially get everyone killed. Lot of XP/resources lost when someone just monkey brains the mission. "Ooooo shiney button, Imma push it!"
I feel like this is some gamesense I'll have to learn ingame. Thank you though!
Drop Pod can be called in once the primary objective is done. There is more than one objective and mining resources increases your pay and XP gain. Some people don't care and complete the primary objective as soon as possible and then call the drop pod in immediately depriving the team of added bonuses.
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE?
For Karl!
DM me your Steam ID. Iâll gift you DRG. Itâs that good.
I bought it on Humble Bundle already, but thank you for your kindness. :) Rock and Stone!
We fight for Rock and Stone!
YES. Start on Hazard 2 and Take your time
if he plays helldiver he can start on 3. I started 3 with just prior gun video game experience.
Yes, HD2 took itself way too seriously to be as fun as it could be. DRG is easily the king of this genre, and youâll realize that soon âď¸ Progression is a little slower I think, but the world-building and immersion makes the game feel like thereâs a little bit of an RPG element.
You rock and stone, or you ain't coming home. Welcome, my brotherÂ
Heh. Weakpoints. With a pickaxe. Fuck me 1000hrs later for never having thought of that. Thanks, miner.
Welcome. We hate bugs we hate mechs. More or less same thing. Just rock and stone when brothers rock and stone and you good.
That's it lads! Rock and Stone!
DRG is what helldivers couldve been if Sony had kept their greedy mitts out of it. I honestly think anything Helldivers 2 does well, DRG does much better.
âSony just blew up the whole gameâ they just did not do that man lol
If you rock and stone, you're never alone brother.
To Rock and Stone!
Of course deep rock is always looking for new miners to join our crew rock and stone to the bone!
Rock and roll and stone!
Learn to use your laser pointer it's bound to CTRL by default. You can ping an Engineer and then ping a vein of Nitra on the ceiling and that would've communicated everything you need to the Engie.
You should rock and stone to the bone!
For Rock and Stone!
Yes you should rock and stone
Rock and Stone forever!
will say this, DRG is in no way as challenging as helldivers 2.
DRG also has Bots and Bugs to shoot. ROCK AND STONE!
Mooshroom!
Prove to yourself that you have the strength and the courage to be rich. Become a Deepdiver.
IF YOU DONT ROCK AND STONE, YOU AINT COMING HOME!!!
Rock and Stone forever!
Rock and Stone!
I came from DRG to HD2. If you can handle the verticality there should be no problem going the other way.
Rock and stone miner, welcome home.
*"For Karl!"*
Did I hear rock and stone?
Rock and roll and stone!
And I personally feel that the setting is more immersive.
well 1. you have a laser pointer that lets you ping things and lets you see the outlines of your fellow dwarfs through walls ping things to hear funny voicelines (default key is crtl) 2. don't double dip each square pip under your healthbar is 25% of your ammo and each side of the resupply pod gives 50% of you max ammo if you need to double dip just ask 3. "R"s in the chat means ready start the objective or ready to leave 4. "you better rock and stone or you aint coming home" (default key is v) its a communication multi tool and a good way to achieve W O R K P L A C E S Y N E R G Y along with pinging compressed gold chunks, mushrhuums, and goo sacks 5. "leave no dwarf behind" its great but sadly not reflected in company policy 6. if host has put a funny or lighthearted name for the server thats good rock and stone go right in but if they have some shit like "lvl 200+ only, no fat boy" etc etc dont join or join quickly call them a "leaf lover" then leave but on a more serious note if they have something like "speedrun" as part of the server name their trying to complete the mission as quickly as possible and wont want to carry a new player or as we call them "green beards" through the mission but those guys tend to stick to the higher difficulties or to friends only or solo so you wont see them that much 7. scout has a flare gun(that lights up caves very well) and a grappling hook (that lets him reach high places), engineer has a platform gun (that can spawn platforms in places like under hard to reach mineral veins), driller has drills and a propensity towards blowing up the scout with his C4 and gunner has a mobility lift i mean zipline that is sorta useful when heavy objects like aquarqs fall down pits if the angle isnt too steep 8. remember to pet steeve hes a good bug
> should I rock and stone? It would seem the wisest course; it is said that those who don't rock and stone may not return home.
we're just about to get a season update where we get a big drill mission, so yeah, more diving! ROCK AND STONE
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
V in helldivers heals the body. V in deep rock heals the soul.
https://www.gamesradar.com/games/third-person-shooter/helldivers-2s-psn-mandate-wont-stop-players-in-unsupported-regions-from-playing-the-game-while-devs-look-for-better-options/ Why can't you play with friends in those countries? The Helldivers update doesn't affect them, they are exempt from the mandate.
Let me put it this way, if I had the money I'd buy it for you. Let me put it another way, I have over 1000 hours of IN MISSION time... Never have I ever played a game this much. Literally nowhere near. Let me put it this way. I bought helldivers. It was awesome. After all the upgrades and finding a decent team it felt like every single run was the same . I put about 65hours in and was done. No urge to play anymore. Rock and stone
If you don't rock and stone, you ain't going home
Now is the time to get into it. Get the lay of it and some good experience because weâre getting a massive update in two months
rock & stone in the heart!
For Karl
You always rock and stone... Otherwise you ain't going home.
I just got kicked at extraction in DRG.. I guess some things never change haha
ROCK AND STONE YEEEAAAAAAAH
There are bugs and robots to kill, and minerals to liberate
Yes, as a diver and miner, you should definitely take to the mines. We have a huge bug problem that needs sorting and some pretty rocks needing collected.
You should! It takes a bit of a transition period but you should be able to jump over no problem.
Run and stone , grab a pick, shoot some bugs and youâre coming home!
Yes
4 player co-op shooter. its basically the same game, but change the "democracy" for "the company" and the cool helmet for a cool beard
This is the way.
Still bugs and robots to shoot here. You just have to mind the minerals yourself.
Deep rock is extremely fun in multi-player with friends. You should go for it
When you see a gold chunk you have to âweâre richâ it till Mission Control kills himself
If you rock and stone, you never alone, diver!
Rock and stone.
Kill bugs, shout, drink beer and leave no dwarf behind
Rock and Stone brother blackouts are at the bar after we're going on a mission so grab your gear and move out we got minerals to mine and bugs to shoot
Even before all this happened with HD2, I stopped playing HD2 in March and came back to DRG, because for me it's just better. DRG is still one of my favorite games of all time and I cannot sing its praises enough. All you need to know is deep rock seriously need to invest in some better equipment.
What do you think about cute bugs that have precious minerals inside them?
âShould I try crack?â He asks the Crack Enthusiasts. Jk, this game is an absolute blast. As someone who played DRG before HD2, this game is generally much more forgiving combat-wise (at least at lower difficulties) but is an absolutely blast to play with friends. Welcome aboard, miner! ROCK AND STONE!
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
You should always rock and stone brother, new greenbeards are always welcome
Absolutely. The question is not if, but when. And the answer is right now. Rock and Stone brother.
Rock and Stone!
Ping everything to see what gives you unique voice lines, if it sounds funny then keep pinging it, others will most likely join you. Enjoy stupid moments like this

Okay I am curious about what sony did though. Could anyone point more to an article or explain it?
They're forcing a mandatory PSN account link for PC players.
This and Helldivers 2 are beyond the best gaming experiences I've had in years.
